    Frustration is my weakness. I have 0 patience, I just want to enjoy walking with my dog but it always ends up with me being angry (I know its my fault) I get pulled left and right, And i end up ending the walk ten minutes into it becuase it becomes impossible and embarassing. I realize I just jumped into it and had high expectations that he would do it straight away when he is only a puppy and its our first time. Now I know its me who is causing the frustration, these videos are saving my life.

      If you want to not have your dog pull u just need to put a easy walk harness or slip lead and with the slip lead you give a meaningful correction turn around then steps backwards and teach your the difference between heal and free you teach them heal by putting your dog into the position with a treat and when they pull on the leash when they are in a heel if they pull you give them a firm correction walk and to make your dog pay attention to you on a walk make it weird for your dog do this thing I call the box which is where you out of nowhere are walking your dog and bam you turn and if he is not following your body with the turn correct him until you can you can turn four times with your dog following you that is how I have trained all my dogs hope this helps(:

    Zak, As a Master Dog Trainer who had worked at some of the largest training kennels in the country I have found you to be one of the best trainers on the internet. I no longer train not simply because of my age but also because of the progressive nature of many of my diseases and injuries. At the time when I was training 60 dogs a month, the methods I used were considered to be the most human and advanced; however, by today standard that are far less dog tolerant. Thank you for the great videos you offer and training owners which makes forever homes much more likely. A funny story I would like to share, My wife was walking a dog that had been trained to find drugs. One of the neighbors asked my wife why the dog sat every time and "howled" when walking past his house. She said she had no idea, but that the dog had been trained as a drug detection dog and perhaps something around the man's house triggered the response. The same day, the man had a Rented Truck at his home and was moving out. lol Thanks again for the knowledge you share.

      @@ivanalfonso8177 It does work - on certain dogs. The PROBLEM is that it takes a long, long time to train this way. You can either spend three weeks nailing down walking right on the leash with pops (or "pulses") and treat-fest and everything else, or you can throw a prong on there and have it done in two days. I prefer the slow burn, though I admit with SOME dogs that's just impossible and will never work. I have a feeling if somebody brought Zach a nasty aggressive mean son of a b*tch, he'd either refer them elsewhere OR jump right to the prong.

      I just stomp those bitches. Ever since my father left me to my own devices in the Russian Taiga with a plastic spoon and a food stamp, which were common back in Soviet Cuba, I learned that these majestic creatures respond well to foot induced pain. It's crazy to think that what Trump, Hilary and Cruz is good, but applying rapid pressure through a heavy 50lbs leg is bad. I mean, really, my father might have been a dead beat alcoholic that dragged me by my undersized human harness, but at least he taught me the importance of leash and crate training early on. We didn't even have a dog.

    i am in a family of 6, the rest of my family completely spoil the dog, she jumps on everything knocking shit over and she gets praised for it, she also tugs on the lead and yet again gets away with it, im the only one trying to teach her to behave, so i just take her on the types of walks she loves, but every time i feel the slightest pull i stop and discipline her for a bit. I also reward her if she goes on a full walk with out tugging (or maybe just 1 or 2 little tugs), but i find this an effective technique and reduces tugging on the first walk you do using this technique, she forgets every thing when it comes to the second walk, but do it again, eventually it gets in there head not to tug.

    Dude I don’t even know how to thank you. I have been dreading walking my little puppy each day because of his excessive pulling. It has been so stressing for both me and my puppet. It took me not even an hour to teach him to walk properly with your method, I’m completely speechless.
    I thank you so much for making the great content you make and for making it free for us to watch, thank you thank you thank you!

    I don't normally comment on vids but this one was super helpful - MUCH more helpful than anything I've read in a book or on the web. Would be great to see more walking videos for dogs with different temperaments (I.E. a shy, timid dog like mine who also pulls). It's great to know that tugging back on the leash isn't the only option to correct them.

      @@steliospapoutsakis4264 Nice that you care enough to ask. As this was 5 years ago, my beautiful girl crossed the rainbow bridge 11/29/21. As my girl pulled HORRIBLY despite any & all training - I got a prong collar - they're controversial - but I made sure the one I got came with little rubber nibs to put on the tips of the prongs - so it didn't hurt her - I'd NEVER have done any training that caused discomfort. She & I enjoyed walks more with this on - she never pulled and she seemed to like the boundary set for her NOT to be able to pull. It was humane, trust me - way more humane that allowing her to pull and the damage that would do to her neck alignment & trachea. I did try ALL the other 'training collars' - many people try different things, and it's different for everyone. Each dog is an individual and they must be treated as such. Never a one size fits all with food OR training. BTW - raw feeding is easier than you think - I never knew this when my girl was alive and learned all too late that even the best kibble is NOT "real food" - all living beings need REAL food. You may ask me again about this on FaceBook (under the same name)

Closed minded, arrogant and perhaps the result of very low self esteem? I dont know. Take from the video what you can use and adapt it to what works for you and your dog. But geeeze you didnt pay for this guys advice so save the anger for something worth it.

      @TheAngieIshmael 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I agree!! I do NOT use strictly positive reinforcement in my dog training, because I help people with really bad behavioural problems with their dogs, and there are much better, easier for the DOG, non-confusing, quicker ways to train em out of such things. The pup in the video in my opinion can be worked on with mostly what that guy's all about, but I see a lot of potential confusion in areas for the dog, and it definitely could've been done a lot quicker and easier.
      Every dog trainer works differently, and whatever works -- works!

      I know right? I just drop the argument and leave. I had this bleeding heart tell me that turning a dog around and walking in the opposite direction everytime they pull hard for something they want is abuse. Its one way of doing it. That way the dog sees3 its to much work to turn around and run to what they want then turn away and turn back and turn away everytime they pull. Every trainer has a different technique this one I got from Victoria Stillwell

    • @f4ptr989
      @f4ptr989 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      kep67 From what I know you don’t back down and cave, you need to be more stubborn than the dog and teach them bad behavior isn’t rewarded, you need to complete the walk before they get rewarded; eventually they will learn to complete the walk and not lie down. Be a tree, don’t let them lead.

      that’s not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion, it mainly depends on their attitude afterwards. There’s several reasons to this, they could get tired quickly, then catch their breath and get a boost of energy into a zoomie that creates pulling and that’s a good place to start training. It’s possible they genuinely just want to lay there and enjoy the scenery, so if you want to, I suggest doing the same by walking the pup then finding a place to sit down before they decide to lay down, and come up with a word for that, just “lay” should be fine but feel free to get creative with it! Just make sure you stick to what you decide on so you don’t confuse your pup later on. Enjoy their behavior while you can, puppies grow up so quickly.

    • @emilywilson7331
      @emilywilson7331 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest thing to remember is, although most dogs are very smart, they’re minds are still as simple as ours, the more you give attention to unwanted behavior, the more they see it as a way to get your attention. Always reward good behavior as much as possible, this strengthens your bond and makes your dog love and respect you more. Dogs don’t listen to people they deem unworthy or not smart:)

    The biggest problem I have with his training method was at the 4-4:50 mark where he uses all types of words the dog doesn’t understand, while not really addressing keeping the dog on a loose leash. The dog more or less led him the entire way. Instead a 180 technique and body blocking will do the trick and let the dog know where it needs to be, at your knee and no further.
