Zak George’s Dog Training Revolution your the best Zak you have helped me with my dog so much THANK YOU also you should make a video with more small dogs that would be cool! Your the best you have helped me so much you deserve so much more sub's I subbed I told all my friends to sub I really hoped that helped you good luck with your future Zak THANK YOU
Zak George my dog is 9 weeks old and he keeps biting. I already taught him how to sit and stay but he keeps getting to playful and starts biting. I know he is just playing around but it hurts and I want him to stop. Can you give me some tips?
what do you do if your dog doesn't play fetch? In the description of an Anatolian Shepherd it literally says..."they think fetch is stupid. you threw it, now you want me to get it?!'
Zak George’s Dog Training Revolution My dog chases other dogs and tries to kill them all because another dog tried killing him as a pup so is there any way to stop my dogs behavior and to have him get along with other dogs
I’m glad you used a normal untrained puppy to teach us and not an already trained dog. I can see what I can do in case certain behaviors happen. Thank you for this! Excellent video!
You can literally do anything to get your dog's attention. As long as you're distracting them from behaviors you do not want them to have that's all that matters. That's why Cesar Millan is as successful as he is he does not use treats or running around and rolling around in the grass he uses touch. People say he's abusive I think even this man that does these videos may have said that in the past, but I disagree when he touches those dogs they do not Yelp in pain or make any noises like they are hurt at all. And if you watch groups of dog when they are together that's exactly how they interact and let other dogs know what they want or don't want. You don't see other dogs showing another dog what they want or don't want by running around and rolling around in the grass and making funny noises.
Cheers for this, I've been looking for "how to train your dog to obey" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Diyadison Genia Equalizer - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
I love that Zak shows the process with all the failures because it gives insight into the difficulties of training a high energy dog like Brutus. We see that every tiny little move the dog makes in the right direction is a win, and that the process of training is a slow one. That's why Zak's videos actually help dog owners like myself to learn - they train us !! Thank you Zak for providing this fantastic resource free of charge.
i'm sorry but this is not a 'training', not by any standards! he's just hyping the dog up more and more with absolutely no pause. and no this not how you get your dog tired or his energy down
Antonio A. I am not a dog expert I barely know anything about them but I don’t think they are trying to get the dogs energy out! Zak wants to help the dog to survive the environment in a much more comfortable manner! And I think by the end of the video that dog seemed much more calmer not that it’s stop getting interested in the world but positively reacting to situation! Sorry if I am wrong ! Just thought to share my opinion! And if u r saying that the dog is exhausted by the end and that’s why it didn’t do anything! That’s kinda what u want. Once ur dog starts to understand (if that couple start doing it as a routine ) that the people don’t want him to get over excited when something passes by it will gradually stop! It’s natural if u play with ur dog (an example) before getting him to walk he will be exhausted and he won’t bark at those moving objects ! If this is a routine it will gradually stop 🛑
Dog training is 40% dog training and 60% owner training It is extremely important that the owners continue the training on a daily basis. Anything done daily becomes much easier to do. Repetition Teaches.
Although it's 6 years late, just wanted to say this is the best training video I've seen because most videos demonstrate training tactics with dogs who are already trained! I was wondering why my efforts weren't working, and now I know it's a matter of time, patience, and consistency.
So you think this guy is good at his job? I am sorry to say but he clearly don't know much about dog behaviors and what leverage to use to have the dog listen. On this particular dog which is pulling a lot on the leash, first thing you have to do is to remove the harnest because this tool is making the dog wanna pull, it's like a game for the dog, to show how strong he is. That's why huskies or other breed who pull a cart in the snow have a harnest and not a regular leash. A harnest gives the dog the opportunity to use the maximum of his legs power and strenght. In a busy environment as a street with car, he should have switched to a regular leash, tight and as close to the dog's ears as possible. And when the dog is trying to pull the leash, a quick "pop" to correct the dog while saying the command you wanna use to have your dog on your side will work and make him stop pulling. I guarantee you this would work faster and better than whatever this man is saying. This guy don't know his job, his energy and his constant talking just makes him like he knows what to do... That's what we call a scammer.
@@i.3661 Maybe he is just a force free trainer. Although I agree with you: This type of treat training is just making the dog full and tired; that's why the problem behavior reduced by the end of the video. If the guy just stood there by the cars and waited out him get tired, same result. We also should not forget that the dog went on this walk as pretty tired already from playing in the yard. Not everyone can do this. The walk itself is the exercise to a lot of dogs. That is why a structured walk is the best to do: the dog heels loosely with no sniffing and no potty breaks, just walking by your side, then you switch to sniffing, peeing, pooping and playing in a safe area, long leash recommended at the initial stages. Then you go switch to a loose heel. This way the dog will respect you and the relationship is much better, clearer communication.
Wish you guys have a sweat time with kind of training like this. Ha ha ha ha. NOT FOR ME! Better spend time with my kid and buy the prong collar. It’s gonna solve all dog problems.
I have been using this th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU as a handy reference book. I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of...."how simple why didn't I think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
Dog training happens in small steps, you build a foundation and once the foundation works you can add on to it. It helps to write down progress notes to see an overall progress taking place.
My dog used to pull the leash like crazy and I thought I would never be able to take him anywhere. Then, I started exercising him more (for example, playing fetch before taking him on a walk) and he started walking fine! No pulling whatsoever. It took time however, the more I took him out into the world, the better he was with walking on leash. He's also an extremely anxious dog, so taking him out more has made him more friendly towards other humans and dogs. Don't give up hope!
It’s nice to see a video with a “real life” dog and his “real life” owners as opposed to a dog that’s already trained. This stuff takes time and life is messy.
We trained our first dog to not pull on a lead by just stopping every time he pulled and he quickly picked up on it. This also helped when we got our second and third dog because they automatically followed suit knowing they’d also get a treat occasionally.
Hi Zak. Brutus is giving you quite a workout! LOL! I don't understand why some people are complaining. I would like to see any of them un-train bad habits in one session. I saw moments of brilliance in your training and in Brutus. If anyone can bring out fetch in a dog, it's you. It just takes time. I look forward to the progress video. Until then thank you for this video.
Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution Hi Zak thanks for the video. I wanted to know if you have a video about dog who is aggressive towards people/strangers. This by the way was excellent video I've dealt with these types of dogs and felt that you probably never had to struggle with it. But good to see that even with you sometimes progress can be slow but we must keep moving forward. Everyone else who is complaining Id like to see them demonstrate what you did in exactly same amount of time.
Joy Victory I've noticed huge improvements in this video haha. As someone who has had dogs of all sorts, and trained them my entire life, this is actually not too bad for a first day of training.
Thanks so much for this video - I have been struggling with my Border Collie cross for 5 years. She does exactly this, and it resulted in me giving up on her. I discovered your videos by accident, and it has improved my relationship with her immensely. This method really works. After quite a few sessions we are still just walking up and down the street in front of my house, but at least there are moments where she focuses really well and she doesn't lunge at every single car. I have watched every single one of your leash walking videos and each one gave me some new perspective on how best to handle her. It isn't a quick fix, and it takes a lot of work and energy especially after a long day at the office. But it does work, where nothing I've tried over the years got through to her at all. So thank you for giving me the hope that one day we will be able to walk calmly down the street!
Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution Thanks! You have at least one devoted fan from South Africa! Luckily she loves fetch. :) Getting rid of her excess energy and doing leash training inside the yard is helping so much. My spaniel cross is easier to control on walks, but rushes especially towards home and she's not at all motivated by food or play when outside the yard... I still have to figure out what to do with her.
I'll echo what Yvette said as we too have a Border Collie mix. We too almost gave up on him and considered giving him back to the group because I just cannot physically handle a lunging, pulling dog. Every time I see a new leash pulling video, I watch it. We too had to train Finley fetch and he loves it now. We started with treat rewards but now he does it free of charge. ;) He's really a very intelligent dog. It just takes time and patience and fortunately we had a trainer help us with some of his larger issues. Keep the videos coming Zak!
Greg Gammago I live in a predominantly “white” neighborhood but some of the houses that have really had their front yards upgraded with nice flower beds, etc., are those where Hispanic families live. A man I know who owns loads of mobile home parks said his nicest ones are those with mostly Hispanic families. So much for that stereotype, I guess.
I love your videos, Zak, because training a dog isn't easy, and you show how challenging it is. You train the dog, work with the dog, showing trial and error in a realistic setting. Some dog shows show depict the trainer as some kind of wizard, turning an aggressive dog into a lovable calm dog in 2 minutes. Hollywood. You give a realistic view, with good training tips. Thumbs up to you!
Great video! Finally a dog trainer that shows real footage of how to train your dog. I wished everyone showed how much work it takes to train a dog. The hardest part is putting the time to train your dog. Thank you.
@Redrooster Then the dog cut in front of me and I crashed. Even at the very slow speed I was going. Oooow. (too old for bike crashes on asphalt... ) Was great up till then though. Maybe I'll look into a trike. (and a bear suit)
@Redrooster Got a few years before that would look right! If I'm spending that kind of money on the dog it should be a little faster so the dog can stretch her legs. I'd just let her go in a field but she is has an odd mutation that makes her fur like cotton candy. She was born to tangle and mat up and the poor thing is a pure bred hunting dog. (that's why I say its a mutation cause not only did my past dogs of that breed not have fur that thin but nobody would breed a hunting dog that way........ TT ) Whilst I was going slow when I crashed the intention was to go faster eventually but I'm not a good enough trainer I guess. (probably why I was watching such videos.)
@Redrooster Yeah, could have been. However, from how different a response he's getting near the end of the session I stand firm with my first assessment.
@@timverco8016 idk, both of my dogs were puppies when i got them. They were not this high-energy ever. But i guess not everyone thinks golden retriever's are hyper. I certainly didnt know this if thats what youre trying to say.
@@timverco8016 yeah, but its one of those "you dont know what you dont know" situations. The important thing is that atleast they got help instead of beating or letting it become a stray like some people do. So no need to be all judgemental about it..thats all im saying.
I think the most important thing you said, and what gets lost on a lot of people, was that a walk, and training a dog to walk, are two different things. Too many people get discouraged because they go out for a 30 minute walk and all they do is struggle with the dog. They have to go into a walk with the mindset to tolerate, as you very well put it, the bad behavior until the proper walk can be taught. It takes a lot of time and patience, especially with a dog like Brutus, but it definitely works.
When you said "unless you want to take up hunting. That dude's eyes lit up and his wife was instantly like No. Then he looked down at the floor. So sad. lol
THANK YOU! I'm a newcomer to your videos and a first time dog owner and this one worked like magic! My partner and I have a rambunctious 1.5 yr old American bulldog/Border Collie mix and he is a nightmare to walk. We just watched your video and then took him out together and this got that under control almost immediately! We've also been doing your 30 day perfect pup training. It's all been such a rewarding experience. Thank you for making this information so accessible, user friendly, and interesting !!
Mariel, dont be a friend, be a parent. Walk with the dog at your side, he is walking with you, he shouldnt lead you. Leaders are in the front. If a dog misbehaves, let them know its not on. Dont just give subtle hints, suggestions or plead. You call the shots. Keep in mind you have an american bulldog. Do not let the dog think it has to be the one to protect the family. Thats your job. In short, while these 'nice' distracting tecniques in the vid should be employed, they should not totally replace you actually controlling the dog. The dog in the video doesnt even know its wrong to chase cars. Make him know.
This is one of my all time favorite dog training videos. It is so real and not orchestrated. Featuring a real untrained dog that lunges just like my dog, it has some really great tips on how to go from lunging to listening. Kudos Zak.
Find a balanced trainer, cookies and toys will not fix any issues like this. You have a proof in this video. A balanced trainer would have fixed that dog in a few minutes. Live.
all of you complaining about Zak, he has 10 mind with a dog that has bad habits and has not been trained hardly at all. he is showing us concepts and tools. if a trainer could turn a dog into a perfect dog in 10 minutes, that would be amazing but it just doesn't work that way
i got my dog when i was 9, he is VERY well behaved in our home and has half an acre to run around in our backyard, so my family neglected to really take him on walks or out into the public. he’s very friendly, but soooo anxious not knowing how to behave in public and wanting to greet everyone. he about breaks my arm dragging me through a store (i’m 16 now, and would love to take him everywhere with me) and has SO MUCH energy especially for his age. this. is. soooo. helpful! yay! thank you.
This is actually working for my Golden Retriever who is 5 months. I had to go buy a special harness for him because he pulls so bad that he's on his back legs and is front ones are in the air. I simply just switched directions in an open field. Every time he tried to pull we stopped and went a different way. Before I knew it he was following behind me! We still need work but huge progress has been made. I was prepared to pay in excess of $700 for someone to come to my house and teach us. Thanks man!!!
I am working on getting my 9 month old border collie to stop lunging at cars, people, dogs, scooters, bikes, trains... anything that moves. It's hard work, but we're making some progress. Slowly. I'm working on her 'look at me' command and 'leave it', getting her impulses under check where I can. Likewise, I was thinking of paying for a trainer to come around and work with us, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel with all of this. I know the original comment here was from a year ago, any update on your retriever? Or an update on the husky? ^_^
Did it really work? Coz i tried a trainer who said it's positive reinforcement but suggested a choke collar! I'm gonna try this with my dog. Hope it works
Don't worry about using a choke collar if your dog is super unresponsive, however, paintiance, consistency, and time is the key. I've had two dogs and have trained them to heel and walk without a leash around all kinds of distractions.
I am so happy to hear that fetch is an acceptable method of burning off energy. I am unable physically to walk my dog long distances but, I am able to move a bit at the dog park with him and fetch (ball and frisbee) appears to be fun for him and I know it is for me. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos they remind me it's important to try and always stay positive and gentle and my dog will learn at his pace.
This was a fun video to watch, Zak you have so much energy!!! Most people don't realize that a young Golden has high energy and they need something to do. I have a very, very high energy 6-month-old Black Mouth Cur, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever mix. She does not lunge on the leash and will only pull when something smells really interesting, but she has a great recall so just calling her name, telling her to leave it and continue walking with me does the trick. I have only had her going on 2 months now before I got her she had no training. She was left to run in a backyard, never even wore a collar. She has come a long way. She has an automatic sit, a good down, can balance up on her hind legs and a wonderful stay. She is so good that if we are on a walk and I stop to talk to someone who asks questions about her because they do, she will either sit or lay down next to my foot with her paw on my foot and wait for me. I love my girl!
As a progressing young dog trainer(16 yrs of age), your videos are extremely helpful!! I've used this video to transform 3 dogs. a boxer, wolf/husky mix, and a medium black and white mix breed. All of them reacted beautifully to the tips I used from your videos!!
I struggle with a simialr issue. I have a golden retriever who is very obedient however extremely protective. She doesn't jump at cars but she lunge towards cats, dogs and other humans. This video has helped a lot.
Brutus pulls the leash and here is my dog who is always being pulled by me because he does not want to step out of the house. He just want to eat, sleep and repeat.
@Ruby Gee thx for telling. I actually didn't read this comment until now. I think he didn't want to walk as he was only 2 month old at that time. Now he pulls me around the neighborhood
he literally sweat it out!! i will be using this strategy my next walk and hope to see some improvements. love all of your humane advise. after all these are our fur babies.
You are an awesome 'dog family' saver. Thank you for this and all of your videos. Our Miska is not even close to where he needs to be, but he has improved dramatically with your help.... AND, LIVING in Alaska, hunting is actually a part of everyday life. Since taking him with on our hunting trips (tiring him out), he os so much more calm at home and we can actually get out and hike for exercise, too! Thank you!!!! ❤
I found this video to help solve the chasing/lunging problem. I really like it when Zak says "oh that didn't go well"....This is the real world! Thanks Sak George!
This video got me and my 5 month old frenchie started on going for nice walks. He was afraid of going outside before and freezes up on the street. Now he's loving walks. :D
My dog is lunging at bikes and golf carts. But I am still trying all your techniques and I got a breakthrough the other day. It is patience and work. Thank you.
The easiest way to Train a puppy to walk on a leash is by just stopping every time they pull on the leash. do not move until it stops and comes and sets beside you with out saying a word or giving it any attention until it calms down and slack is in the leash. then pet them and talk in quiet calm voice letting them know you approve and continue no dog wants to stand still when they realize you stop if they tug they will stop tugging on their own.
I usually look another way or stand in a different off position. It tends to have the pet look at your facial area to get your attention back. It’s worked with 4 of my dogs and 1 I’m helping a friend with.
I saw a video where instead of just standing still you turn around and walk the other way for a few steps until they are back next to you and then turn back
@@swampy9088 treats! and if your dog is not listening to your voice, try a bell to catch its attention and then work with that. Do not move, and speak harshly (NO!) when he pulls the leash, and then try to walk by holding the leash really close to you and giving it treats and praises every single time he does the right thing ("good boy!"). It takes a lot, loooot of time and patience, but there's no such thing as an untrainable dog. Do this every day. Repetition is key.
My dog is what I believe they call an Aussidor, she is small and young, also super full of energy. She was rescued from a hoarding situation where she was just kept in a room and never trained with anything. She acts almost exactly like the dog in the video and she barks at EVERYTHING. We have been working on her with treats as rewards. The house training is improving, and the walks are occasionally better. This is great advice here. I will work on these behaviors this way with her whenever I can . We do not have a fenced in backyard and my neighbors are outside a lot. She barks at them. Drives me crazy! Thank you for this video!
Love this! I have a 4 month old boxer puppy with very HIGH ENERGY! haha shes a handful and seriously needs to learn not to pull! She is mainly exploring the world still but also gets scared of dogs barking that she cant see or loud noises and runs and pulls in the opposite direction as soon as she gets scared! It's so hard to get her not to run and to either sit and wait and or keep walking but we are working on it! Thanks for the great videos!
Yeah, my 4-mo Rat Terrier does similar! They are learning which sounds or objects, etc are safe, or not safe, etc! A big part of socialization! Everything is new to her! Try to stay Calm! Make sure not to overload her with too many stressful events at once! Also, if u get too stressed, she will pick up on that! Change Direction, distract, come back later (or in another day) when she is calmer to what upset her! Slowly desensitize! Longer walks and play times should help, also, with her energy! Some pups need more than 20 - 30 min at the time! She will calm down as she gets older, every 2 years! You can try dog sports, such as agility or flyball, or pulling carts, also!
Thank you I have been at the end of my tether with a high energy reactive dog it's good to see a video that shows a dog who is not immediately easy to handle maybe there is hope 😍
I had a super hyper blue heeler that went crazy on walks. I started walking with my hot green chucks every walk and when I saw her focus on things I knew would trigger her pulling I shook my shoe in front of her and said catch the green shoe. It worked so well for her.
My 6 month old Lab - Rhodesian Ridgeback mix is the highest energy dog I have owned in 45 years. She is also one of the most loving. She pulls like a freight train even with a halter on. I'm 68, in pretty good shape but I don't know if I have the energy to train the way this video shows. She's so out of control that I feel like I'm failing her and this whole thing just brings me to tears.
Like asking doctors for a diagnosis and treatment there are many many ways to train a dog. If you are having trouble with pulling you need a prong collar. It is a disservice to not only dogs but their owners to simply say the collars are unnecessary or are inhumane. Inhumane is NOT walking the dog because of the pulling. This is a problem you can fix with $15. Your dog will walk like an angel with this collar. Your breed has a very high pain tolerance, among the highest of all breeds, so don't be afraid you will be hurting it. Yes, I do this for a living....
I might add that obviously exercise is the single most important element to an obedient and happy dog. Fetch is of course the best way to achieve this as it tires them out very quickly. Like a 5 minute intense fetch session is better than a 4 mile walk. Some dogs just don't enjoy fetch but all of mine have. Walking is the next best thing. Well, play time with other dogs is pretty high up there if you can arrange that.....
Really loving these videos! I like that you don't only show when things go well, too (it's nice to see that things don't always go well instead of having that edited out; it's reassuring to see that it does take time and baby steps instead of just reading about it or hearing about it).
We have new rescue dog 1 1/2 years old Yorkie. He learned to sit and lie down in 2 days with your videos. Now on to walking without lunging at people. Here we go!!
Its been nearly a year! It would be awesome to know how Brutus is doing on leash training :) I look after a Kelpie girl, she is now two years old. She has been with me for a month, and after about a week we started having problems. Of course, she is a generally high energy dog. I took her for walks three times a day, she would bark, jump and it felt like she was on a different planet at times. She happens to know and love fetch, after I started playing fetch a couple of times a day, and being very positive about ANY progress she made on leash, we are now doing much better :) I bring a tug rope on walks, if I see her tention level rise(Im getting good at that, and HER level, not the leash), we play tug and it works wonders for her to blow off some steam :) Then we move on. She is not allowed to pull, I always stop and have her look at me before moving on. Every other step in the beginning, no we have long periods where there is no tention on the leash. Often rewarded with treats. AND we clickertrain! My point is: THANK YOU ZAK! :) Will give her back to her owner in a weeks time, and I have learned so much from her.
Why don't you use clicker training when teaching fetch and how to walk on a leash? Just curious. I don't have dogs but I love dogs and love your videos!! Also, I think it would be great for you to re-visit Brutus in a few weeks and show some "before" and "after" video so we could see how he has progressed. Or maybe you could check in on the dog that was biting trees. I would love to see if he has improved! Thanks for the videos! Keep up the good work!!
There is a difference between playtime and obedience time. Clickers are used during obedience. Until needed, food and clickers are not used during play.😃 his words not mine.
Clickers are awful. Cause a dog is so used to the clicker it’s hard to get them off the clicker in the future. The point is these People need to spend more time with their animal. The dog needs more than just “a walk”. The harness they are using is awful and encourages the pulling. So they should add exercise and use a gentle leader as a harness which controls the pulling
I have a very high energy standard poodle, Edith. She's 1 1/4 years old, and it's almost impossible to get her to focus on me. She refuses to look me in the eye as though she knows if we make eye contact, she'll have to listen to me. I have taken you ideas and examples to heart and will be trying them with Edith. She's a super sweet, energetic pup who has a real fixation with balls, so that'll be my first step to wearing her out a little before training; however, she seems to have limitless energy. Thank you for your terrific videos. This has become my go to place for training my 3 dogs.
Our 10 mo old ACD is unwalkable right now. Very frustrating. She has boundless energy and is so attracted to distractions, anything with wheels or four small legs. Energy level is a 10!
@@dillbill7152 I have a 1 year old husky and he’s starting to pull a lot. He hasn’t pulled me for abt 7 months now and it’s getting annoying having to be drag and when I do stop he doesn’t care. He also likes meeting other dogs and whenever he sees one walk by he wants to get close to get to know them. But he pulls me and jumps around playfully and the own looks at me😅
@@5hineesdiamondsky798 Start slow and just walk him in your yard back and forth. Or just anywhere he is comfortable and not distracted. Every couple of steps just say his name and get his attention. Reward him for looking at you. Then get him to sit. Do this on normal walks too. It might take a while but eventually he will learn that when you say his name and get his attention it's a good thing and he'll stop and listen to you. Don't let him pull if you can. Just stop and wait until he calms down. Make his walk as annoying as possible if he is misbehaving. Of course if he gets too frustrated dont push it. Reward heavily at first for good behevaior. Even for small things.
Earlier I just decided to bring my st.bernard out for a walk on her leash but I just only got frustrated coz she really didn't even bother to listen to me and just pull on the leash which gave me a very hard time because she's too big for me to handle so I got pissed and decided to just bring her home. To my frustration I decided to visit Zak George's yt channel, my fave dog training channel hoping that I can learn something here that can make me teach my dog not pull on her leash and I'm just so thankful that I found this video. My dog is really really like Brutus and she's also a year old, at first I thought there's no way I can teach her at this age but seeing Brutus learn it at such an age I felt so hopefull. Thank you so much!
i've never truly trained dogs before and felt so frustrated when my dogs did not turn out to be the typical good dog image i wrongfully assume every dog to naturally have. after binge watching dog training videos for about a month to prepare for my first puppy as an adult, i've finally realized how much training is needed to have a basic foundation. but instead of feeling overwhelmed, i'm actually so relieved to know it's something i can do and control. really excited to be thorough and consistent to make sure the new puppy becomes an awesome dog. your videos are gold, thank you so so so so so much!!!
I work on the HEEL factor. Taught my dogs to heel on the leash attached to their head harness..these are wolfhounds. Control their head, tell them to heel and you get compliance. An untrained dog on a chest harness is uncontrollable.
@@smilesadlylaughloudly5833 It is called a Halti, it doesn't restrict them apart from being a strap over the muzzle and around the back of the neck, and it attaches to the collar. If you control the head, you have total control of the dog. They are Irish Wolfhound/Greyhound. The Halti is great. I can have them off leash but in my town it is strictly ON LEASH.
It is really nice that he is using a not already trained dog. My dog is 6 months old and I don't feel like walking with her because of the pulling. This week I will try this method.
You're amazing Zak. I'm watching your videos to get ready for my new puppy but i realize that i can learn a lot here myself. Dog's psychology seems to be not so different from human psychology. Thanks for your work
I love your methods of patience and understanding with positive reinforcement. I’ve met too many people who think hitting their dog is the best way to teach them. I think that’s a failure on their part, not the dog’s. Thank you for providing the community with healthy, positive methods to teach our dogs!
Same my dog won’t listen if I have a toy or a tread and he sure as heck don’t care about me when he sees a bush he never stops pulling and it’s the most annoying thing ever while my other dog just walks like she’s the queen
I also like how real he is, not easy, and with our 8 week puppy, we want to be better people. So thankful for yoor hard work and sweat you put into this...literally! :)
Brilliant video Zak. Dog training can be a real son a bitch sometimes, probably why some people start using cruel methods. It was great to see you struggling too.
Zak George. Okay I’ve been using your methods since my puppy was 5 weeks. He is now 10 months. I am going to be honest. I have not done any leash training for about 5 months. The only issues he has is called when come with distraction “sometimes” and lunging to jumping on people and getting excited. Watching more videos. He is so smart.

Yeah
Yes it's so annoying when they are training a perfect dog and it just does it and then you try with your dog and it doesn't work
You can literally do anything to get your dog's attention. You don't see other dogs showing another dog what they want or don't want by running around and rolling around in the grass and making funny noises.
your right
@@jasone3962 Personally, I hate Cesar Millan. He hits dogs. For example: th-cam.com/video/9ihXq_WwiWM/w-d-xo.html

My interpretation is that, through play, Zak is also creating a bond with the dog. He is making himself much more interesting to Brutus.
Morag Harding you dont have to play with a dog to bond with it. You can play with a dog but it could still not care about you
@@bickle8931 you dont have to but you can, it is a way of bonding which was what he was attempting. Your point is redundant.
First thing I learned before getting my first personal dog is that you're training yourself as much as you train them.
thats something true on it yo
Dog training is 40% dog training and 60% owner training
It is extremely important that the owners continue the training on a daily basis. Anything done daily becomes much easier to do. Repetition Teaches.
Also, in some instances, the dog trains YOU!
Yeah. My dog learned to use the restroom on pads in a day. I think she's pretty smart
training yourself discipline and patience for suuurreeeee .
Although it's 6 years late, just wanted to say this is the best training video I've seen because most videos demonstrate training tactics with dogs who are already trained! I was wondering why my efforts weren't working, and now I know it's a matter of time, patience, and consistency.
How have you been getting on?
@@i.3661 Zak is a terrible trainer. But harnesses don't cause pulling, so you're an idiot too
@@i.3661 Maybe he is just a force free trainer.

Secret to train your dog: be consistent on training.

Why are people saying this was a failure? You can't train a dog's behaviour in a day

You can in a fraction of a second

My dog used to pull the leash like crazy and I thought I would never be able to take him anywhere. Then, I started exercising him more (for example, playing fetch before taking him on a walk) and he started walking fine! No pulling whatsoever. It took time however, the more I took him out into the world, the better he was with walking on leash. He's also an extremely anxious dog, so taking him out more has made him more friendly towards other humans and dogs. Don't give up hope!

Thanks, great advice!
I've been doing something similar and it does work very well, I have a 8 month old, 120lb mastiff so I'm trying to get this down ASAP lol

Hi Zak. Brutus is giving you quite a workout! LOL! I don't understand why some people are complaining. I would like to see any of them un-train bad habits in one session. Until then thank you for this video.

Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution Hi Zak thanks for the video. I wanted to know if you have a video about dog who is aggressive towards people/strangers.
Hang in there and prioritize fetch! Really glad to have you!
Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution
Thanks!

Thumbs up to you!
wow what a cool dog he has an account and knows how to comment
Great video! Finally a dog trainer that shows real footage of how to train your dog. I wished everyone showed how much work it takes to train a dog. The hardest part is putting the time to train your dog. Thank you.
I feel like the poor owners are thinking there is no way they will have that much energy to redo that kind of training!

Well, tbf, if they did this as a puppy it wouldn't have gotten this out of control.
@Redrooster Yeah, could have been. However, from how different a response he's getting near the end of the session I stand firm with my first assessment.

Make him know.

i got my dog when i was 9, he is VERY well behaved in our home and has half an acre to run around in our backyard, so my family neglected to really take him on walks or out into the public. he’s very friendly, but soooo anxious not knowing how to behave in public and wanting to greet everyone. he about breaks my arm dragging me through a store (i’m 16 now, and would love to take him everywhere with me) and has SO MUCH energy especially for his age. this. is. soooo. helpful! yay!
Ebony Jones updates??
Did it really work? Coz i tried a trainer who said it's positive reinforcement but suggested a choke collar! I'm gonna try this with my dog. Hope it works
Jay DON’T use a choke collar - if you need a tool use either a front attachment harness or a head halter

I have a 3 month old shepherd who started taking an interest in cars/trucks. This video is very helpful! Thank you. :)
I´ve tried that, it doesn´t work. He stops for a second and then he pulls again :(
I usually look another way or stand in a different off position.
Did he just call Brutus "Sir" when he started going toward the dachshund? 🤣

Hello Pretty, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I wonder where Brutus is now!!! Love. Thank you so much!!! You are so helpful. 💜
My GSD is super high energy, he is 10 months old and I adore him. I'm glad I found you!!!
Does this go for kids as well ?
in all seriousness, yes it does
Yes Yes it does

I had a super hyper blue heeler that went crazy on walks. I started walking with my hot green chucks every walk and when I saw her focus on things I knew would trigger her pulling I shook my shoe in front of her and said catch the green shoe. It worked so well for her.
Hello Shay, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I just tried this and it totally worked! I can't thank you enough!!! 🥰
Yay, hope for me!😥😂
Really loving these videos! I like that you don't only show when things go well, too (it's nice to see that things don't always go well instead of having that edited out; it's reassuring to see that it does take time and baby steps instead of just reading about it or hearing about it).
Hi Zac could you mabye make a clip where you teach a dog/puppy to take a bath.
I've got a great video on that with Piper the aussie!
Great! I will click on to that!
Helga Hegelstad
Yes please yes
Helga Hegelstad this is more of an ad than anything
Helga Hegelstad he has a video on how to make your dog like baths if that helps
These steps all take time and, most of all, commitment.
I have a Labrabull & she's very energetic!! I've learned lots of techniques. Thank you for sharing this ☺

Our 10 mo old ACD is unwalkable right now. Very frustrating. She has boundless energy and is so attracted to distractions, anything with wheels or four small legs. Energy level is a 10!
This more difficult than impressing a girl
Nah. Training dogs is straightforward and fun.
@@dillbill7152 do you have a dog? I want advice with mines😅
@@5hineesdiamondsky798 I have one. What do you want to know?
I hope this helps me. My dog is on the VERY high energy level. I should rename him psycho.....but I love that dog.
mine too! she’s a CRAAAZY lab and just will not listen.. but she’s also extremely loving so i cant be mad at her🤣
What a lovely dog trainer i really really really like this :)
Some knowledge, a lot of patience, and work! That's all it takes!

@@poopdoody988 Ups..., Thank you. My Portuguese is interfering with my English again.
You're welcome.👌
i've never truly trained dogs before and felt so frustrated when my dogs did not turn out to be the typical good dog image i wrongfully assume every dog to naturally have. after binge watching dog training videos for about a month to prepare for my first puppy as an adult, i've finally realized how much training is needed to have a basic foundation. but instead of feeling overwhelmed, i'm actually so relieved to know it's something i can do and control. really excited to be thorough and consistent to make sure the new puppy becomes an awesome dog. your videos are gold, thank you so so so so so much!!!
Nice example of hard work Zak. Sweat is good.
I work on the HEEL factor. Taught my dogs to heel on the leash attached to their head harness..these are wolfhounds. Control their head, tell them to heel and you get compliance. An untrained dog on a chest harness is uncontrollable.
Are they Russian wolfhounds? Can you have them off leash or do they need that head harness?
@@smilesadlylaughloudly5833 It is called a Halti, it doesn't restrict them apart from being a strap over the muzzle and around the back of the neck, and it attaches to the collar. If you control the head, you have total control of the dog. They are Irish Wolfhound/Greyhound. The Halti is great. I can have them off leash but in my town it is strictly ON LEASH.
"On leash" *Goes into a different state and not a lot of dogs have leashes... Takes off colour*
High energy Vizsla, love the realistic training!
Hello Heather, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
It is really nice that he is using a not already trained dog. My dog is 6 months old and I don't feel like walking with her because of the pulling. This week I will try this method.
Hello Brigitte, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
You're amazing Zak. I'm watching your videos to get ready for my new puppy but i realize that i can learn a lot here myself. Dog's psychology seems to be not so different from human psychology. Thanks for your work
Choker collars are not humane and are not recommended by Zak George/ this channel.
How are things going with your puppy. We just got our puppy in January. She is a work in progress.
Same, getting my dog Next week, a doberman. :)
Katie K. They are humane as normal collars my guy you dont have any idea of what youre talking about

I love your methods of patience and understanding with positive reinforcement. I’ve met too many people who think hitting their dog is the best way to teach them. I think that’s a failure on their part, not the dog’s. Thank you for providing the community with healthy, positive methods to teach our dogs!
The couple probably would give up after seeing how this session goes lol
I'm one of the 2.8M people having trouble with my dog😂😂
I dont even have a dog :)
Same my dog won’t listen if I have a toy or a tread and he sure as heck don’t care about me when he sees a bush he never stops pulling and it’s the most annoying thing ever while my other dog just walks like she’s the queen
My dog doesn't bark at cars. We think he's part goat.
I want to see a video of that 👀
My dogs dont bark at cars either. One of them though barks at birds cats, and squirrels. The other thinks shes a goat as well.
My 3 dogs go crazy when they here our front gate, the doorbell or if someone knocks. 🤦🏽♀️ lol yeah definitely about to start working on that.
My dog pulls on his leash. He's actually walking the people.
🤣🤣🤣lol my dog does the same
My dog stops to sniffs every little thing
I go for a drag, not a walk
We have a golden retriever and he is just a twin.... in size, energy levels and action
I asked my 8 week old Golden if he was ready for this. He howled and bit my thumb...
😅😅😅
basically, wear your dog down for 45 minutes before the walk. they said they don't have time. look people if you dont have time, then get a cat
@The Joker you are a good man. I will pray to St Francis for you today
Mine is 9/10 on energy. He'll do everything the retriever did except bark at cars.
