    My son has ARFID. His is made more difficult as he doesn't feel hungry. He could go all day or more without eating anything.
    He has just finished a six part course at the hospital and he has tried foods that he's never liked the smell or look of before which is massive for him. He tried them and has refused to have them again but a try is a start.

    IM so proud of hannah and the fact that she is spreading awareness to everyone online. before hannah was making videos, it was really hard to see any type of information online about this disorder. IM glad that its becoming more widely known, but i can agree that her posting on instagram there are gonna be alot of haters and people who are curious or dont understand. it can be really hard to understand something like this when youve not experienced it first hand. but there is a DIFFERENCE between picky and having ARFID . I can only hope more people do interviews on hannah and have her explain more on ARFID and how it works, so that the mental healthcare system sees it and recognizes it widely. Im in canada and im 24 and ive been dealing with this since i was 3, every day is a struggle to just eat food and when I dont have safe foods I would rather eat nothing at all and to have people tell me im just being picky andi should just eat is not helpful at all. I have hope. to anyone else struggling with this disorder know you are NOT alone and there is a whole community out there. we need more people talking about it!!

    My best friend has ARFID and not even her parents believe her and so recently I've been trying to get her to eat more foods she hasn't tried before, it makes me really happy when we try a new food together as I have also struggled with anorexia and having a friend with a similar problem makes it easier for both of us

    • @YvonneStewart-c7s
      @YvonneStewart-c7s 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had nobody who understood my anorexia. It was 1987, and what they did back then, was to get you to eat. So, my friends, family, Dr. would just make me eat. I walked graduation night weighing only 89 lbs. I made it, with anorexia, and ARFID, discovering I had the latter only this year.
      Im 55 (!!) now. You CAN make it. It DOES get better. Lean on each other. Help each other. And reach out for more help when you need it. Sending some of my strength to you! Think I can spare it.❤

    My 8 year old has ARFID. It took 3 years of us begging for help at countless doctors and FINALLY my wife came upon a ARTICLE about ARFID. We brought it to the doctors and eventually got this diagnosis. He also is on the “spectrum” but I believe ARFID is a form of autism. We got turned in by our local school when we try to enroll him and explain to them before we had doctors backing us. One doctor said we were abusing him (by neglecting his food intake) and should just “make him eat”. He is our 4th child, we’re not idiots. He has it worse than this little girl. I just discovered her recently and want to show my little guy to show him he’s not alone. There’s way more to his story but that’s the gist of it.

    I can relate to it. I can't eat any dairy and mushrooms at all and I feel like my explanations are not enough for the people. I didn't know it had a name. I think that this is what I have.
    Do I need to go to psychologist or to a dietician or nutritionist to give me this diagnosis or is it enough if I know it for myself?
    Can it be recognized even if I say that I have it or does it need an approval , a validation from the outside?
    People from the US, UK or any other Western country are so blessed. People take there disorders and allergies seriously. If you are from Eastern Europe you are seen as difficult, picky, squeamish, finical and they say that something like this doesn't exist.

    • @wanderingsoul077
      @wanderingsoul077 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      well, mental health care professionals have only recently started researching it and looking into it, it was previously known as SED, or selective eating disorder around the 2000s or 2010s, and even then it had an extreme criteria for people who only would eat very very specifc amounts or types or food. I live in canada, and ive always known i had a problem with eating since i was 3. I am 24 now, and trying to get help or even a diagnosis is impossible here. I think it just depends on which medical healthcare professional you go to. people like nutritionists, or dieticians can only help so much with the foods and your diet, they can give you some ideas on what types of healthy foods to eat, and show you the food pyramid guide, but what you may need is a specialist in eating disorders, a psychologist/pyschiatrist and a therapist to help deal with the symptoms youre experiencing. Hannah and many other children and adults are very lucky to receive treatment, let alone a diagnosis. it is true though that the US and their doctors are learning more and more and are beginning to diagnose and treat people with ARFID. but unfortunately for me and a lot of other people ive spoken to who also share the same issues I have, have straight up told their doctors, therapists, nutritionists, and psychiatrist and psychologist about this, and none of them have ever heard of "ARFID" or "SED" or any type of condition that includes being a "picky" or, selective eater except for that autism and selective eating go together most of the time and is seen as a symptom of autism. I have the same issue with being taken seriously, as my own doctor misdiagnosed me with binge eating disorder because I told her I can only eat special selected "safe foods" and she took it as I have a problem with binge eating the same foods over and over. If you look up when ARFID was added into the DSM-5, it shows it was added in 2013. so its been a while now for them to research it yet most healthcare providers or doctors havent read up on it yet or even been taught to treat or diagnose people with it. originally they thought it was selective eating only shown in children with autism. I would suggest doing more research into what symptoms people with ARFID have, I know it is not a good thing to try and self diagnose, but there really isnt alot of people that know of ARFID. my doctor completely gave up on me after trying to explain what ARFID was to her, so I understand what it feels like to not be taken seriously. If it is a true and real issue for you, I would tell that who ever doesnt believe you that you do have ARFID, and try to explain to them the difference between a picky eater and a person who has a serious disorder. I don't see as to why there couldn't be both.
      TLDR; ARFID is still not a widely known or accepted disorder, but you should still try to speak to a professional about it and tell them. You can tell people you have ARFID, but self diagnosing is unsafe and dangerous.

      @@kermitthefrog2311it’s a little strange to thing that everything is intended for predators don’t you think? this is one of those situations I have to disagree. It is extremely easy for kids like this to be exploited, but I really don’t think this is for that. It would be nice if maybe her face was blurred, but it’s possible she explicitly asked that she be seen. If I had this opportunity as a kid I would have jumped on the chance- she now has a record of what she’s tried and the work she put in that others can aspire too. The thing about minors being on the internet and simply existing is that there are always predators waiting to take advantage. If we stop kids from doing this, we might as well stop kids from being in public entirely. This child is proud of herself- excited to record her daily challenge- seeing an excitement about new food is something I’ve never really experienced as an arfid haver. I think this is a wonderful way for her to grow. I also don’t really see any evidence that her parents are being unsafe. And even if they were- this is therapy mandated- the therapist is probably watching every single video, and a therapist would report if they believed the child was being exploited. She has made it clear that this is a choice, and something that actively motivates her. She’s probably not worried about it because her parents have NEVER made her deal with the horrid parts of the internet, and are protecting her in what ways they can while still supporting her on her journey. If in the future it’s made clear by the actions of the parents and the statements that the child and her therapist makes then we, as an internet community, should do something. But for now? This is just amazing arfid therapy that’s available for other people to reference and use to advance their own journey. Assuming that all children’s content is made for predators is only helping predators. The goal is to get the predators away from the content and stop letting them interact with the audience they are trying to hurt.

      its definitely real, its just not a widely known disorder mainly because of stigma in society. there is a huge difference between a picky eater and a person who has ARFID. some people would rather starve to death than to eat something they have never tried or dislike. I mean, arfid was added into the DSM-5 in 2013 and Ive been looking for a healthcare provider to help me or diagnose or receive treatment for over 10 years now. there are older people,in their 50's and 60's and have only just learned that there is a real word and disorder for this in the past few years. I really wish it was more widely known because Ive been struggling with this my entire life and everyone I meet I have to educate them the differnece between a "picky eater" and a person who is struggling with ARFID.

      I can see where youre coming from, but in my opinion i think this is different. She records to have proof shes tried foods she didnt like, and posting them on social media can help spread awareness for other people who may or may not have it. It was Hannahs own choice to post it on social media, and her mom allowed it. But i can definitely understand what you mean, as most children are or have been used for exploitation and money. before Hannah's account blew up and there were tons of people watching it, I can say there were almost no open knowledge on social media talking about ARFID, and just her doing exposure therapy and posting it online has attracted alot of views. So while I can see what you mean by that, I don't think she is being exploited, plus, I am pretty sure her therapist, the one who told her to try exposure therapy is watching the videos. I agree it is a bit unsafe to have a child post stuff online, predators and exploitation and all that, but I really do think that this is not it. ARFID is still not a widely known disorder, and her videos has helped tons of people spread awareness to this disorder. there are so many people out there right now who do not have a diagnosis or receive treatment simply because the doctors arent informed. I am one of those people. I straight up told my doctor and therapist and dietician AND my nutritionist about my problems and symptoms, and they said to me theyve never heard of that before ever. SO I do think that it is mainly for awareness.

    Parents who exploit their children through social media for financial gain should be ashamed of themselves. The role of a parent is to nurture and protect your child as you negotiate with them the world outside the safety of the home, but these vloggers are doing the complete opposite.
