Me sitting in Perth (Australia) with AC blasting and it's 42°C 😂
Wondering if I should do a Bjørn-style extreme weather test but instead of -28°C it's +42°C
I'm in Perth as well, with no AC. I'd love to roll around in that snow. :)
@@lordfluxington Oof! That sucks!
The thing is most batteries dont like temps above 40 C
So yes you could do that actually
Pls do ! I will watch it and subscribe. ;)
That would be awesome; in Brizzie with a cooler, yet muggier heat, but out west can get like that easy. I would love to know if the octo and the heat pump can shift heat in 40c+ temps
26:05: It should be "don't trust chinese 😅 trust Tesla calculation", he actually spent only 33% as predicted from the car, not the calculated 48%. He started with 90% (26:25) and he arrived with 57% (29:41). There is a lot's of more factor to take into consideration , elevation, wind, temperature, traffic etc..
I was about to write the same thing ⚡✌🏻
Tesla Vision looks to be in alpha version and it’s also breaking the law in Sweden. It’s not allowed to use high beam in lit areas. A thing my Golf 2015 handles perfectly! 😂
Well except emissions right! 😂
Same here in Finland, you could get fined if using high beams on areas with streetlights. It's not common to get fined but it's against the law. Basically S3XY buttons are a must.

@@anonimxsidecas It’s a CNG (using Bio) car so it’s actually emitting less emissions during the life cycle than a Tesla 💪😎
I drove my Highland on a 4 000 km roadtrip around Europe. The auto high beams performed really well on Autobahn and other European motorways in the dark. In Norway where the motorways are lit, the auto high beam performed much worse.
Should be a choice to use high beams or not on lit roads. My previous cars never used high beams when there was street lights.
Yeah it works signficant better here in germany then what I saw in the video... The street lights might be confusing it?
@@kenion2166with street lights it works really well in Germany too. After latest update on 2023.44.30.9 I barely switch them off at all
@@thomasegeland1847 You can turn off auto high beam in model 3.
Since the last update the auto high beam feature is sh. Again.. but there are bugfixes incoming already including matriy headlight functions
Great video. It feels good to be a legacy TMS 90D owner where everything works perfectly including AP, turn signals and park assist. I was planning to get a TMY but was hasitating because of Tesla Vision not working yet then I thought Highland is going to fix all that and they removed the stalks. It looks I will have to keep waiting for my new Tesla for quite some time. 😥
U could use sexy buttons as stalks!
I think there have been a lot of us waiting for Tesla to fix stuff in order to buy a car. Instead of fixing things they keep breaking, or stripping out features. I feel like Highland is as much a downgrade as it is an improvement. Hard pass from me. We need to stop sugar coating things and telling Tesla how great things are so they maybe get a clue and start fixing some things that have been broken or missing for a while now.
Love my 90D too, but what Tesla sell now are just, urgh. Waiting for the BMW i5 Touring or Audi A6 e-Tron Avant myself.
Tesla Vision... "awwww shiiiiit"
Vision works good, they should just remove A driver monitoring B auto wipers C auto high beam :D
Ahh now this is a proper Highland video!
The section about charge port placement would make for a great short form video. Great explanation Bjorn!
Classic Roadtrip Music ftw, brings back so much memories! ABC - always be clapping.
Love the OG music track on this one!
Thank you Bjorn!
your daughter is gorgeous❤ thanks for your effort
Thanks mate from Australia, I love yoiur work. I spent a lot of time in Norway in the 90s, great to see your beautiful country again,
Finally a road trip video 🙌
For the stalks there should be a retrofit solution from Tesla! This would be for Tesla very inexpensive and for many people a huge improvement in driving comfort.
And i think Tesla would sell many 10-thousand cars more ...
Enhance Autos, the people behind s3xy buttons, are working on a stalk that will add turn signals, gear selection and some autopilot functions. No idea of timescales as it was originally announced for the S and X in May last year.
Yeah or just make it optional on order, not a big deal to change the coer and the wheel
@@kenion2166 I agree, they did it with the Plaid and its Yoke, why not the stalks?
When I should buy a M3H they should make me a 350€ discount so I can buy me the sexy Buttons. They are way better than it is now. Or they should include the buttons to the order, when they aren’t able to fix it.
"does not register both clicks it registers one click", from the notes in the user manual "Note
Autopilot Activation must be set to Double Click if you want to use Traffic-Aware Cruise Control independently of Autosteer". I think you have it set to one click.

Dude, that intro music has become almost extinct. Thank you for this road trip 🎉
Informative stuff as usual. And the ending was rly cute.
Agree with your verdict, this is one thing that stops me, because it's so annoying to turn signal or quickly in city change drive to back
Drove today in Finland 350km in -20 celcius with my ‘22 model 3. Average consumption was 190 wh/km.
nice to see you again ;)
Hi there!
I am more or less preparing to replace my Ioniq soon. Until reacently I was pretty sure it would be a Tesla M3, but they make it kind of difficult to me these days. On one hand you have the perfect charging system with the superchargers, also to just enter the car, and drive is just what I want. On the other hand, this whole vision only based functions don‘t work. I might tend towards the id4/5, it might be the right compromise especially if they lower the price.
Rangewise I‘m with Tesla again, shoot, it‘s difficult.
Vision is actually not as bad as people make it out to be. Works quite well for me, even in tight parking basements. But obviously the cameras needs to SEE - so it works less well in winter.
I am afraid you will regret the choice of an id4/5 Infotainment is still a bit like Windows '95 😉
@@fritslevie4461 I have not yet made a decision, maybe I even keep the Ioniq a bit longer. I also have the feeling that MY or M3 is the better package over the competition.
But I also think that Vision only is not capable of what ever it is supposed to do as reliable as systems with radar, especially in our winter conditions.Tesla is most likely not investing much effort into the wiper or high beam issue for this will be covered by FSD sooner or later.
…. And yes, I‘m also worried I might be regretting, not to have bought a Tesla rather than the other way around😉
Watch a Munro VW id5 teardown video. Then if still undecided watch a Munro Tesla teardown. They are in a different league imo.
vision only has worked pretty darn well for me on a 2023 M3, but I'm not driving on highways with street lights
let's make Tesla great again - bring back the stalks, both of them 🤣🤣🤣. really funny, but I must agree. and we also need the USS, front bumper camera, improved speed limit handling & ski load through
imagine if uss was brought back the way it works in the model x, aka behind the bumper
@@wroniec not sure I understand. they work on my M3 just fine in addition to the camera - I don't wanna miss it
@@rzakolski001 I think you didn’t understand me, i mean the best solution would be to put the sensors behind the bumper like in the model X doors
@@wroniec now I get it. sure better is the worst enemy of good. for me it really would be enough if they put back the USS & a front bumper cam. if the stalks would find their way back I'd even forget about the ski load through & just upgrade to the new model, despite the crippled top speed
Proper road trip video! Highland for the Win! Thanks Bjorn - and turns out the ding dong annoying speed thing can be muted if you tap on the sign- have to do it every time though the other Teslas don’t do that 🤷🏽
Can you do a super cold 1000km series with different EVs, and hopefully prove they work just fine and kick sun out of the chat
I like the music from the B-Roll!
FINALLY a proper Tesla Bjørn Roadtrip again, with the proper, original music, that for me automatically triggers roadtrip fever 😄
Hi i am subscribed to your channel. The figures for the #88 Road Trip wth Tesla Model 3 LR Highland are hardly spectacular! I have a Mercedes EQA 250 AMG and last week i travelled in Switzerland at temperatures well below zero (-2 to -6 degrees ) and I averaged about 24 kWh/ 100 km!! My car is parked outside and I did not pre-heat the interior as you often do, I just jumped in and off. One thing i will say for the Tesla is that it has a large battery and the range is superior. That's it.
Don't misunderstand me, I do think that Tesla is still technolgically ahead but the gap is not so big and in many respects the build quality of EU cars especially German cars is still superior to Tesla (but they are getting better now that they are manufacturing them in Germany 😀) .
Thanks Bjørn, a very insightful video. If they do the same to the new model Y due shortly then I will not upgrade from my current Y. Best regards Martin
Love it!
Thanks!
That's great efficiency given the weather and speed
Nice proper winter, all I got from Japan is some rain and snow 🌨️ only for an hour or so 😅
Tesla model 3 Highland was on my next car shopping list, unfortunately no stalks stopped that in it's tracks. Waiting for delivery of Volvo EX30 extended range, due in sometime towards the end of February, maybe delayed due to Red sea problems! Looking forward to seeing you test one soon.
What made you switch to the Volvo? I'm in the same boat as you, just sold my Model 3, had a Model 3 highland on order. Cancelled after test driving here in Denmark.
The volvo has a few things going for it, but a lot not going for it:
- small battery
- short range
- low cargo capacity
Those turn signal buttons on the steering wheel is a deal breaker for a lot of people. It's the most frustrating thing I've ever experienced in a car. Terrible for roundabouts! Works well for intersections though, so it's probably not a problem in the USA. But for much of he rest of the world, this is a real pain in the ass to use. It forces you to always look down at the steering wheel while in the middle of a roundabout with cars all around you, and taking your eyes off the road in a critical situation is the last thing you want to do.
It's also very easy to hit the wrong button. Sometimes the button don't engage, and you have to press again. There's also nothing that tells you if you hit the correct button, unlike a stalk which you'll know if its pressed up or down, with these buttons you have to look down (again) at the screen to verify if you pressed the right one. I just can't understand how they thought this was a great idea. Stupid cost cutting measure at the expense of usability and safety.
It would be interesting to test the effect of one of the low-cost internal reflective roof covers on range and cabin heating. These are typically meant to keep the cabin cooler during summer but they seem to help in cold weather as well, at least in my M3
Return of Tesla Bjorn! 😆
Since you mentioned BMW so many times, allow me a remark: owning an i4 M50, I would go ballistic if my car had such crappy hard- and software. My „autopilot“ works fine at night, so does the auto high beam. Without permanent „ding-dong“ chimes. 😄 Now go ahead, tesla fanboys, roast me! 😆
Nope, I'm with you, the assisted cruise control in my classic Ioniq just works, whereas our 2023 Model Y is maddening for several months a year when it's winter out. The two or three times a year the Ioniq's radar gets blocked by slush or salt spray I can just revert it to good old fashioned dumb cruise.
Agree with you. Actually, my wife’s Kona electric from 2019 does a much better job at holding lanes and autopilot. For years I was trying to figure out why. Wild guess - the hardware in Kona is better than my LR 2020 and I guess it has to do with processing power. Maybe I am wrong, but the reality is there: Kona is better than a 2020 Model 3 - when it comes to autopilot. efficiency: not too far off either.
@@astaps8720 Because Tesla is trying to
save money. That’s also the reason for VO. Not because it‘s better. Which could be okay if there wasn’t an army of Tesla fanboys out there trying to find an explanation for everything and telling you Tesla is the best on the market and all the rest is crap. 😉
Man, I've missed this soundtrack :)
Yes i found the same error with the right scroll wheel for autopilot in September and reported it immediately (:
For the right turn signal I stuck small 5mm silicone "button" that are attached to furnutre doors for soft closing on the right turn signal arrow on the steering wheel. The "missfire" at roundabouts decreesed. It's not perferct, but cheap!
For everything else I ordered S3Xy Knob - 260 € to fix a lot of pet-pees that bother me is a bargin.
Can you shut up the bing bongs with the Sexy Commander ?
- "you havent looked at the road for 300 ms, BOONG"
- "You exceeded the registered speedlimit by 5 km/h, BIIING"
Great video.
Can you do more about summer / winter tires!?!
About what?
Comparison of different EV tires regarding efficiency, performance, long life time... you did this one episode of Nokian tires - that was amazing.. @@bjornnyland
My LR Highland had the same issue with the AP button not recognizing clicks. I took it to their service center - they agreed. So I am getting a new steering wheel in February (mobile service). So it may be a general issue.
Uncle Björn has spoken!😀
Let the battle with BestInTesla begin!
02:29 there should be an option to enable auto-pilot directly with one click, not with a double-click (in controls > Autopilot)
You can do it in pre-highland, with a recent update. But in Hunagry where even the motorways are so sheeet I just use the crusie control only, because we have to drive in the line with the left wheels to avoid potholes. If the surface is good, I just double-click.
Nay - single click activation is too annoying as it bundles TCC and AutoSteering so they both engage and disengage at the same time.
this is possible!
@@jonnyroon My reply was for Bjorn who doesn’t like double clicking the button. Of course everyone has their own preference.
Have you got a link for the insulated window shades plz?
Two times my MG ZS EV's radar have seen a moped with removed rear lights and black-painted registration sign on a completely dark and foggy road and reduced speed long before I was able to see it at all. My MG will only be traded in for a car with radar, that is just how it is.
Bjorn, you can turn off speed sound by clicking on a cross that's above the speed sign. It's very little and hard to see
Road trips ftw
Gotta love how Elon cuts costs at the expense of European drivers/customers safety.
Oh trust me it affects us yanks, too. I think he’s having his folks design them around Martian drivers.
And somehow they still achieve 5 star in European safety tests, not like BMW i4 only 4/5 stars. They really have to do even more cost saving to come down to the level of BMW safety.
@@TschingisTubeBMW Diesels got 5 stars while have a issue with spontaneous 🔥
@@TschingisTube I'm pretty sure you understood the fact that I am not referring to safety in case of accidents.
@@danielstoicamusic maybe check the Euro ncap it includes accident prevention
Does the Highland have the same front lights as the Roadster?
It sounds like M3 Highland has different options than my refreshed Model S. I have disabled auto-highbeam on my car and I only engage it manually.
I agree that the SEXY button is probably a better solution.
In Austria works automatic high/low beam perfect (M3LR RWD 8/23). Automatic windschield wipers, on the contrary, complete desaster, one has to operate manually.
Automatic wipers got improved on highland with a sensor :D
Manually? Ha, forget that. Autopilot forces AUTO -- along with the sticky settings for when you disengage auto pilot. its soo god damn tiring and annoying. ALso a safety hazard in some situations.
Yeah, same here, wipers on auto is crap, kind of improved in recent updates, still not acceptable. Hell my first car with automatic wipers was a Renault megane from 2003 and was already pretty smooth.
Re the lack of indicator stalks and the buttons being 'stacked' on the left.
I wonder if it might have been better to have the indicator buttons on EITHER side of the steering wheel.
The left button to turn left and the RHS button to turn right.
Just a thought.
Byorn, steering wheel buttons do not click, it's only capacitive touch.
So, if you don't feel the (fake) click is because your finger is slightly touching one of the other buttons.
Scroll wheel clicks. Its the scroll wheel push down click that activates autopilot now =_=
They don't always seem to work, even though you press it they sometimes seem unresponsive, and you have to press again for it to work. It's also very easy to hit the wrong button, and unlike a stalk which you'll know if pushed up or down, you don't know if you actually pressed the correct button unless you look down at the screen. I also find that I constantly have to look down at the steering wheel in order to be able to hit the correct button while in roundabouts, since they move around with the wheel. Taking my eyes off the road in a critical situation with cars all around me is really the last thing I want to do. Those turn signal buttons probably work well in the US where they mostly use intersections, and the few roundabouts they do have are large so you don't have to turn the wheel so much. In the EU though, with tight roundabouts everywhere, this is a real pain in the ass to use. By far the most frustrating and annoying thing I've ever experienced in a car. It's a stupid cost cutting measure at the expense of usability and safety.
Do you experience any vibrations in the steering wheel with your M3H when driving above 120 km/h? Unfortunately, I'm facing this issue, and it seems there's no solution for it.
Unbalanced wheels?
I have the Highland and does not like the "single click" auto-pilot. It works much better choosing 2 clicks for auto (1 click is just adaptive cruise). Then also when you change lane - it disables auto steering but keeps the speed stable. Once back in right lane, simply double click again to have full auto-pilot. Would have been nicer if it re-engaged itself like 90% of all other cars, but you can live with it.
I truly cannot recognize the huge issues (mostly) short term testers have with the indicators in roundabouts. There are small high spots on the steering wheel to index your fingers correctly to the buttons and out of roundabouts you very quickly learn that right hand clicks beneath the index spot. After 4 weeks it was muscle memory again.
4 weeks sounds like too much
How the hell can you keep your hands on the wheel at all times without changing grips in a tight roundabout? You must have just very large roundabouts where you drive. Here we have tight roundabouts all over the place, requiring you to use the hand over hand movement, and then you'll loose track of where the buttons are and you have to look down in order to be able to hit the correct button.
It it is way too easy to hit the wrong button and I also find that they're not always responsive, and I have to press again... Other times I'm not sure if I hit the correct button, and I have to look at the screen to verify it. I will know if I pressed a stalk up or down, but with these you kind of have to look to be sure.... And that's the problem, it forces you to look down at the wheel too much, or the screen, while in the middle of a roundabout with cars all around you. It's by far the most annoying thing I've ever experienced in any car.
I can totally understand that many Norwegian driving schools have banned the new model 3, claiming that it causes their students to fail their test in roundabouts..
This only work well for intersections, large roundabouts and when going more or less straight. For tight roundabouts it's a nightmare.
Bjorn, don't you fell that charging speed curve a bit poor?
the insulation reflects your body heat, that's why it feels warmer.
Regarding the “ding dong” when you exceeded the speed limit (required by new regulation), just tap the speed limit on the screen. Gone (for that ride only)
Bjorn - please have Elbilmek see if the springs and shocks from Highland are backwards compatible with old model 3 😘
There are dynamic aftermarket shocks like the highland uses
I saw that Koni is selling their special active shocks, which use the frequency selective dampening that they have a patent on, but the Highland suspension consists of progressive rate springs in addition to the shocks themselves. Plus of course different bushings for the suspension arms. If the price were reasonable, I would prefer to use Tesla OEM parts. This is important information that hopefully somebody figures out soon. @@kenion2166

In einigen Punkten wurde es schon sehr verbessert.
@@karla6999 Tesla: Verbessert oder ‘kaputt repariert’, that’s the question! 👍😅
Tesla will ends up selling a stalks kit if they don't fix those problems
If they bring back the stalks, I'll buy it. The way it is now it's a complete deal breaker. Those turn signal buttons on the steering wheel is by far the most annoying thing I've ever experienced in a car. It's also unsafe, because it forces you to always look down at the wheel in tight roundabouts, or else you won't be able to find and press the correct button.
On the Ioniq the charge port is opened with a button from the inside, so no need to get your fingers schmutzig. But I guess you have to close it somehow.
bring back the stalks :)
Thank you Björn for your honest videos. I want to ask you something, Im thinking of buying a Tesla but not sure if to buy the new HL 2024 for 54k€ (tiers included) or the performance 2023 for 45-47k€. Is it really worth the extra ~8k€ for the better comfort in your opinion? I want to ask you because I know you are honest and also you driven them both. And if anyone else also had them both please I also want to know your opinions :)
Maybe Tesla should at least add voice command with driver recognition for turning signals without any press button first. Just say turn left on roundabout I don't know...
Hmm, maybe it would be possible to make a "strap on stalk" for the indicators 😂
People are making a huge deal about some Teslas having problems charging in Chicago because they got a winter storm, but I don't understand, Norway has cold AF weather and the majority of your new cars are EVs, yet you don't hear news articles about Norwegian EVs failing to charge every day. Has the Sun entered the chat?
yes, stocks have to come back.
Will there be any videos on the Highland RWD?
What are you looking for?
When enyaq solid?
I noticed you disengaged AP when you do lane change. Actually you just need to activate the turn signal and then autosteer disengages but cruise control is still active. Then when you are in desired lane just activate autosteer again. This works great and much better than EAP and FSD with is soooo sloooow lane changes due to EU regulations.
I would love if they just re-engaged autosteer automatically after a manual lane change. That’s been driving me real close to just getting S3XY buttons
@@2phonesbabyken Yes, but I think that Tesla does not want this. I think some less safe situations could happen with users not quite understanding the system and know what state the system is in. Same think about muting the AP engaging and disengaging sounds that people have asked for.
Yep, thats how I also do it in my MY22 LR. Works like a charm.
I didn't disengage AP. I turned the wheel which switched to ACC.
@@bjornnylandwell that's the case in MY with one click auto pilot... I turned it off!

@@bjornnyland A little mischief and irony...in real life these mechanisms are not abused...You took a good few weeks out of their lives. love when you shake your feet off the snow before getting into the car, you should have the same attitude about the doors... 😊 🙏
Can Sexy buttons do the turn-right signal?
The Tesla lights are a pain to meet in traffic. It’s always a little too bright/aimed a little bit upwards.
Back side windows are tinted, but rear window is not?
I saw a news video from the USA where Teslas failed to charge in Chicago because of cold weather and got stranded at a Supercharger station.
Looks like there is a technical defect in the charging station or power grid. It would be strange that several users have the same problem at the same time.
It worked in Norway, Canada for years now, so why not there?!
It was a quick clip with not much detail. just said too cold to charge Teslas in Chicago and video of stranded Teslas.@@Zedus-rl9hp
That was so staged lmao, the supercharger station was broken for what ever reason. Of course everyone "sits" at the broken charger instead of navigating to the next one ( also the navigation would show that its out of order )
Theys drove a few tesla there and interviewed the "ppl" to make a story out of it. Classic framing with staged news shit
I have also a highland and it was annoying with the double click. But i found that you have double click it with a longer hold on each click. so the whole action would take 0.5 sec instead of 0.2 sec. Or you can just program it to 1 click. The auto highbeam works perfectly for me on autopilot to be honest. it turns off with oncoming traffic perfectly on the highway, If the high beams go on when there is a car far in the distance in front of you riding in the same direction, you don't need to turn it off, the person far in front of you won't even be bothered by it anyway.
Oh they might be bothered
@@bardz0sz most of us have dimming rear mirrors so it's quite fine from a far distance
:) "comparing" Tesla to BMW..., appreciate your good humour, good job. That aside, Tesla certainly gave bragging rights (the fastest, the greenest, the cheapest...) to a lot of men who generally do not like cars (which is perfectly normal), but have been under pressure by stupid men who know everything about cars. It is often the case that Tesla and other EV drivers in general are demonstrating the acceleration.
No more refilling of blinker fluid.

I put on turn signal before i turn... is it really a problem with the button on stearing wheel ?
Roundabouts
@@bjornnyland I can see that can be an issue... The buttons needs at least to be diffrent colours.
Amazing car, really enjoying it, although haven't drove too much yet. Anyone who can share their experience in terms of noise inside the car when it's idle? I have some constant static hum going on when I just enter the car. It's not charging, no A/C, no preheating etc., basically only the touchscreen is working. Why there is still some noise? I've read that it's just a HV to 12V converter when it's connecting the HV battery and it starts to charge the 12V, but I'm not sure I've heard the same sound in the original Model 3...
How high did you heat the inside car, as the consumption is a kind of rather HIGH for the new, refreshed Model 3 Performance (2021 model). I just drove a day ago in Switzerland a rather hilly route, with winter tires at an average outside temp. of -5 degrees Celsius and 329 km and drove on highways between 100 - 110 km/h, while on side roads (at times with snow) 50 - 80 km/h and the average over this distance was mere 160 Wh/km, really efficient considering the environmental conditions. However, I had the inside at 19 degrees Celsius only, as I am an efficient hunter.
It was way colder than -5°C that you had...
Rumour has it that Tesla is hiring for Roadster assembly employees, those 2 from the referral program might be coming your way sooner than later and that would make great content, let all hope this is true!!!
Is simple ACC (no lanes, just range/speed) behaving the same like autopilot regarding the auto high beams and disengaging when changing lanes? That would be a torture to drive like that 😢
Good question.
No, ACC is fine, only Autopilot has those constraints. I got used to it and now make sure I keep my eyes in the road at all times when AP is engaged (before I used to check my phone from time to time while in Autopilot, which is obviously bad)
Nope. You still have to deal with phantom braking and spotty following distance though
32:30 there is a new option for one-click Autopilot. Sound like you have this option turned on.
I don't like it. It doesn't allow me to only turn on ACC then.
@@bjornnylandhate it... The autopilot didn't work well in the winter and I what to decide when to use acc or autopilot
Tesla Vision is shit when using Auto High-Beam or Auto windshield wipers. I thought they would improve, but it is getting worse, I think. I love my M3, but they have to include a proper rain-sensor and finally a Matrix LED function!!!
You need the new gen of SEXY Buttons with the Continuous Autopilot function.
Already have it.
What's that?
6:07 hahaha
Just tap the speed sign to turn off the warning.
Consumption is pretty high compared to my SR. I almost drive straight on the motorway from where I live and drive 30kms with 130ish before hitting the city and driving 50 the last 8km. Average consumption is always below 200kw/km when I arrive - even at minus 10 Celsius. I am super impressed with the value of the SR.
Nine more ❤
Hey Bjorn I love your videos but.......the roadtrip music is now dated & it's time for a refresh. Love the music starting around 16:30
