you hit the ice like Titanic hit the iceberg 😅
Thank you Björn for uploading part 1 and 2 within a few hours of each other.
We all couldn't wait one week for the next part to be released 😀
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for everything 😊
I hate those ice / snow turds dropped by semi's. Even in a Fossil, the fear is them taking out the bumper, radiator and oil coolers not knowing how solid they are.
True, but the damage repair costs of an EV Battery are WAY more than an ICE - For example, an Ionic EV battery was similarly struck in Canada and the EV was a write off ($60,000 replacement), though the rest of the EV was perfectly fine. A Radiator replacement is about $500 to $1,000.
bro this is what we have been waiting for for. can't wait for the part 2!
One of the main reason for the increased range (reduced consumption) of HL is the new type of wheels, and here are some aftermarket ones 🙈

You should design a sticker "1000km challenge approved" or something so people who rent the car see its the car you tested, would be a nice easter egg
The Hertz! 😁
We are glad you liked our new Smart Action :)
Estimating that the specific heat capacity of the battery pack is about 500 J/kg/deg C and that the battery pack has a mass of about 500 kg, then the thermal energy stored in the battery will be about 0.07 kWh/deg C. So every 10 deg C would be about 0.7 kWh of thermal energy.
(Estimate of specific heat capacity of the battery pack: Most of the mass of a battery cell comes from its passive cooper and aluminium backings of the two electrodes. Because of its greater density, the mass of copper in a cell will be about 3.2x the mass of aluminium. The specific heat capacity of copper is 377 J/kg/ deg C and the SHC of aluminium is 921 J/kg/deg C. So the average SHC of cell will be about (3.2x377+921)/(3.2+1) = 506 J/kg/deg C. I'm pretty sure that the cell casings are made of steel and the battery pack casing might also be made of steel. Steel has a SHC of about 500 J/kg/deg C. So the average SHC of the entire battery pack is probably about 500 J/kg/ deg C.)
Lithium has a very high specific heat capacity
but you are right, most of the weight probably comes from the other materials.
@@gooo6807 Lithium's high specific heat capacity applies to it's metallic form. Hopefully, there is no metallic lithium in the battery.
Don't do that to us. Such a cliff hanger!
I love your video's man, so much of your personality in em! :)
Bjørn - Are you getting the Standard Range Highland for testing as well?
No
@@bjornnyland OK :/ Ordered one today. Hopefully it will feel like an upgrade to go from a 2019 Long Range TM3 to a 2024 Standard Range TM3. Apart from the AWD, stereo and some horsepowers of course. The range is actually longer on the RWD compared to my old LR when having 18" wheels instead og 19"
@@apekatt2007it is definitly a huge upgrade… especially from a 2019 model 3
Like a new car
Hopefully the car is ok. Can you show the differences in the stock headlights and and high beams to the pre-Highland model in a side by side video, for instance?
That would be great
I hope you are well after the accident, good review as always man!
Thank you for the nice review! New interview about TMY LR RWD?, NMC Battery?
Bjorn, I want to do exactly the same S3XY buttons setup when my TM3 arrives. :) Thank you for your videos.
23:46 You had maybe a second to react. In my opinion, such a time frame is way too short for most people to handle the collision avoidance maneuvers properly.
This car's lights do not illuminate the road far enough for the driver to be able to notice such obstacles with enough time to respond at these speeds. Therefore, I think, with weak lights, it is necessary to drive slower.
I think he was using low beams to not bother the car in front. This is exactly why I don't drive over 100 kph at night with low beams. If there are no cars in front of me and I can use high beams, then driving over 100 kph is not a problem.
The problem is that it was slippery outside and I didn't want to make a sudden move. That could cause more problems.
@@bjornnyland glad you are safe.
@bjornnyland
Suggestion for testing:
1000km challenge of the old TMS 75, 90 or 100d now that they have increased charging speed. 100 kwh battery would be a good test to show how good they still are (maybe still are).
And also charging tests of course 🤞
You can use the elimination of fogging in the climate of the boiler, where the windshield is blown
It’ll be fine. I’ve ran over snow turds on the road many times with my model 3. 😂
Can you mount that ledbar over the license plate? (Mount it "upside down") Mainly to avoid the super-illumination of the road just in front of the car.
Why is bjorn hiding a part of the screen with his passport? lol

He uses the screen to hang his passport when he crosses border.

12:00 At 378 Volt you might never see 250 kW. Maximum charging current at a V4 Supercharger with V3 DC Cabinet is 615 Ampere according to a datasheet published by notateslaapp. 378 Volt * 615 Ampere would be 232 kW. But of course you are right that you don't see the maximum possible current because of the battery temperature. 👍
Incorrect. You can hit 250 kW on V4 of course.
You can even see 630A at the second charge, at Kløfta. So the 615 will not be the true maximum
Can you assign the sexy-buttons to indicators and gear selector? (...I.e. fixing Teslas mistakes...)
If so, the company should start selling sexy rainsensors and parking sensors.
Imagine if Tesla had just given the car decent ergonomics to begin with, so you didn't have to add aftermarket buttons for better convenience.
Franz really should put his foot down on this. Elon just makes wrong decisions when it comes to User Experience.
you can drive it perfectly fine as it is. If you prefer to modify it that's separate
I enjoy the little modifications. Not everyone needs the buttons, i bought 4 buttons, but only use one and mostly just use the commander for automatic AP enable.
Rather have too few buttons and be able to add some than have 100 buttons but unable to remove them. Or the horrible designs of having buttons, but then hiding the hvac controls on the screen behind a menu.
For the millionth time, it's about cost savings... Tesla doesn't try to make "the most ergonomic car" by putting everything in the infotainment... It just saves them money
@kaasman78 where u get the info it was Elon idea alone?
Hi Bjorn, my Tesla also got hit. Could you suggest a good place for fixing it, here in Oslo
3:47 I just realized my 2024 MYP license plate is so identical I thought it this was mine first.
Can charging be calculatet in minutes, kwh/min. Tesla will do over 1kwh/min, but example id3 will do just 0.65kwh/min. It will be more accurate than just peak power 250kw. Charrge per min is more accurate for hole loading session. SR+ lfp -21 will do 1,25kwh/min for 45 kwh loading session in +5c
Nobody counts in kWh/min. And 1 kWh/min is just 60 kW which is way too low. And 0.65 kWh/min is 39 kW. Are you sure about that?
🤔 hmm I have the opposite problem where it’s over 100 f everyday so cooling working hard 🥵 man those waffles look scrumptious 😋❤️🔥🤘🏽
I know they measured the angle when installing the ledbar but judging by the light output it seemed to be angled too low.
Im getting the commander for AP auto turn on and highbeam/wiper auto turn off.
your version of model 3 from Marcusbil has tinted windows, is it aftermarked ?
You just need a bit more ventilation in the garage. Install an exhaust fan controlled by humidity. It'll be energy efficient as well.
You need heat exchanger for efficiency
19:59 - question for you: does the Tesla M3 Highland come with buttons behind the steering wheel? Or did you add the enhance auto buttons?
Great video btw, thinking of getting one but still not 100% sure
I added.
Yes, cold chevage is no good ;)
Tesla is very efficient though.
Would be interesting to see how it perfoms in summer when heat becomes more of a problem
assuming 420kg of battery,2.1kj/ degree kg, then 5degree c of battery warmth worth 1.2kwh of energy. If heat pump cop is 2, the we can save 0.6kwh for better range
Of course there will be some losses but I reckon 300wh is a reasonable guess, about 1km of range on highway, or 30 seconds of driving 😅
With those temps it’s unlikely to be even 2. The colder it gets, the more ”effective” it is to use the battery as heat storage. 👍🏻
@@veikkoimmonen7300 at leat tesla is the only on that building a real vehicle. Come to China and see, Lixiang One falls apart after 60k miles, Nio’s CEO claims EV efficiency is the least important aspect of designing a car. At this time I really thinking Tesla is going to be the next Toyota, cheap, reliable, efficient.
Tesla is the best car company ever and no maintenance no gas stations no oil changes no smog check no belts no hoses no spark plugs no air filters
Cliffhanger 😂
When will they release sexy stalks? For turn signal use
i dont doubt the newest Tesla has better insulation but doesn't matter which car i get ( 2022 model 3 and then 2023 ioniq 5), i always get rattles...
First i thought that you hit a nocturnal animal 😅
Bjørn, as a Belgian let me tell you that whatever it is that you are eating, it is absolutely not a waffle. Looks like a crêpe or pancake.
Trust me, its a waffle.
Yes, totally allergic to Apples : ) Me too : )
I used to be, but they must have changed the pesticides used, and that must have been what was making me allergic, because lately I almost never get that reaction. Now, after I don't have the problem, looking back, I'm almost certain my problem with headaches from apples was the pesticides they used at the time.
Hi Man, can you control the blinker with the sexy buttons?
I would like to share my experience of problems with a Kia EV6 GT Line RWD which was my second. How can I share this with you without posting to others.
Hey Bjornyland! Can you test de same condition with the ioniq 6 thank's 😊
Is that a question
290 Wh/km, with a prise of 6 kr/kWh or 0,60 euro makes a cost of 174 kr/ 100 km ( 17,4 euro). That's quite expensive, one pair with high consuming petrol cars. But as Björn shows in the video that's what it takes to get the right performance out of the battery.
Electric drivetrain in hard winter conditions seams not optimal.
That'd be comparing to a relatively efficient car. If you wanted one with performance similar to this vehicle is would be much more expensive in relation.
Had a 340i previously and a Volvo V90cc, both cost considerably more to fuel, plus the tesla is only closer when road tripping, the rest of the time its pennies in comparison
Unfortunately that's true
According to the video, it costs 3,94 kr/kWh at one of the superchargers, so if that’s the going rate, you can subtract 1/3 from the price.
this is a challenge for speed not for normal driving.
Here todays prices are 0.25€/kWh ~ 22kWh charger. 0.35€/kWh ~ 200kWh charger.
Banana box baron!!
Where can I get these Tesla compatible LED bars!!
www.bilkomponenter.no
Is it posdible to turn off regen on highland version?
With Sexy buttons, yes.
Were you driving with winter tyres during this trip?
Anything else would be illegal.
@@bjornnyland thank you. I am asking because with my TMY LR, driving in around 120kmph with Pirelli t1 tyres in -5 deg c, my consumption is clocking 300wh/km. This makes it very unpractical car for winter. Even in similar condition with 100kmph the consumption is still around 245wh/km. The tyre pressure is around 3.0bar. Do you have any suggestions how to improve this?
Can you assign s3xy buttons for indicators?
You can. Not sure what the difference would be though between having indicator on a button on the steering wheel or the indicator on a button somewhere else :)
of course
@zedski I was looking at where Bjorn had put the buttons. Other columns, so they stay in one place when you steer
@@grahamhorne596 he has the buttons behind the steering wheel. They rotate with the steering wheel just like the regular indicator buttons. If you want to put the s3xy buttons somewhere where they don't move you have to take your hand off the wheel when you push them which unfortunately defeats the point.
They should have activated those matrix lights...
I got no problem with single press to activate or deactivate autopilot, not sure why you find it so hard.
With single press, you can't activate ACC only. That's the problem.
Have you looked at EVInsulate? The owner claims to have reduced cold related range loss by 50% by insulating lines, battery, and cabin.
A substantial part of the range loss due to cold weather is also because of increased drag, because the air is about 20% denser at -25°C compared to +25°C. If the heat scavenging is efficient enough, then it could keep the battery warm so that the range loss is kept to a minimum
@@RRyyas Drag and rolling resistance increases being what they are, there is still much potential to conserve heat. It is well documented that multiple short stops are particularly bad for efficiency as the battery cools, losing the heat it acquired during driving. Better insulation would prevent this heat loss. The owner of EVinsulate insulated the bare hoses that distribute the warmed glycol as well as the battery shield and glass roof and got remarkable results.
FWIW, I'm an M.E. with experience in industrial heat exchangers and with specific education in heat transfer. I have a good idea as to why they didn't insulate better, but those trade-offs are showing in the extreme cold. Insulation in cheap and simple/reliable, but comes with the cost of a loss of passive heat transfer and larger more expensive heat exchangers (radiator, pumps, etc).
❤❤❤
Thats a pancake 20:48
Incorrect. It's a waffle.
an Hyundai in Canada would it be 60k € repair cost...crap in street kicks the under body.
Unlike to the Hertz!
I miss 3am Joker drunk food.
The LED-bar seemed to put to much light on the road near the car, effectively kind of blinding you, with penalty of loosing your night vision once you dim the brights. Incredible Tesla can’t provide good lights on a car in 2024.
Bjorn you should make a video explaining to carmakers how to build EVs for very cold climates! Even this Tesla has too high energy consumption. 220Wh/km should be the maximum acceptable consumption for an EV, even in this conditions. Would battery thermal insulation help to better manage heat? Would better cabin isolation also help? What about heat pumps with higher coefficient of performance? Also, is a PTC heater a good thing to have if you leave the car outside in the cold during the night? How important is better aerodynamics?
As you can see in this video driving is the primary contributor to the consumption, physics works against you here as the cold temperature and high pressure leads to higher drag. If he did this at 80-90kph 220 would be within reach. I don’t know why you want 220wh/km to be the maximum? As the efficiency of an electric motor is so high factors like road surface, drag, temperature and tire type is way more noticeable than in a petrol/diesel car. When I had a Diesel car it would struggle to keep warm at -30 and need to run auxiliary heaters that didn’t count towards the consumption it showed in the dash, while 4-5l/100km was common during the summer, 6-7l/100km was normal during cold periods. Should we say the same that a Diesel using more than 4l/100km is unacceptable in -30?
Min 20:35 😂
Isn’t autopilot supposed to automatically change lanes? Or is that only in the US?
It is the "Enhanced autopilot" add on for roughly 2700$
@@Klatrevalross even with EAP in the EU you'll still have to confirm using blinkers. It's next to worthless here.
Off topic: Tesla Model 3 2024 had better sound insulation than Model S Plaid, any thoughts?
I don't think these LED bars are legal inside the EU.
The a Mercedes would be legal as cocaine
Depends.
As a work light, basically everything is allowed, you just can't use it on the road.
Also, Norway is not in EU
LED bar is legal in Norway (same rules apply as high beam, avoid blinding other road users), not in EU.

Why do you have your passport on the screen
A man named Bjorn allergic to apples. What this indicates is not being introduced to apples in the first 5 years of life. Hard to believe growing up in Norway not introduced to even a single apple by 5 years of age. Seems unreal, would mean a high percentage of eating non-Western, so the parents were simply old country but that fruit is known in Japan, so must have been Sichuan. My grandson wouldn't eat fruit as a small child due to autism, but Bjorn is anything but autistic.
Now I wanna travel to that Cleavage too!.
Such a nice commersial for Sexy Buttons.
You pay 50000$ a car and still you have to buy add-ons to be able to have important options for Comfort
actually you get valuable addons that are not featured in no production car
No you don’t. It is only for those who are not willing to adapt..
It's not about not willing to adapt. It's about using turn signals correctly in roudabouts. Or maybe they don't have roundabouts in California? lol
Stupid idea removing the indicator stalks
Honestly Tesla and other EV makers still need to improve the efficiency and range in very cold climates. With a combustion car you can do very long trips in any climate, while with this Tesla, which is the best EV available, you need to stop very often. You can’t even make 200km with 80% battery between stops
They are very efficient... Which is exactly why they consume energy when heating the car. ICE cars have so much waste heat (due to the inefficient energy conversion) the impact on fuel economy is smaller. If you mean increasing range, then sure, I agree, but I am not sure they can do much about efficiency. You need to convert the energy from somewhere
In regions with continuously cold climate, yes, an ICE car would be more practical for long road trips. But how likely is it you'd do those in such a climate anyway? Bjorn does a 1000 miles test driving up and down a small stretch, but has also shown a lot of (highway) roads are limited or aren't even accessible in these conditions. At low to medium speed (like 30-50mph, driving through slushy snow) the consumption would be lower. Moreover, ICE also have a lot of cons in the extreme cold; they really don't like cold starts, you have to connect the 12V battery to a charger or use a booster to start, can't preheat most ICE cars, so they must be manually de-iced, they can't use regenerative breaking which gives more car control than friction brakes in slippery conditions etc. Norway is not -20C year round, on the contrary, it is quite exceptionally cold even for winter in southern Scandinavia. For 80% of the year, the EV has way better efficiency and running costs than the ICE.
@@BSquare1989Heating the cabin doesn't make much of a difference, you could drive the car with no climate on at all and would get similar results, at 120km/h the heat pump only adds an extra 15Wh/km +/- the additional energy use is mainly warming the battery pack and lost in the slower chemical reactions at low temps.
The Nuuk E-line seems to be a bit low and could benefit a slight tilt up.
This video also shows light with a need of a tilt upwards.

If you're wondering. The beeping after activating the autopilot is because he has taped off the interior camera.
It also does this sometimes without taping off. So frustrating. It also does this in the old model 3
Since updates around Xmas my 2021 M3LR does the same. Damn annoying and I already got the 3 out of 5 warnings that AP will disable for some time…
Recent updates also mess with the auto wipers which after years was finally working decently. Now they do not turn on when outside is a super storm. Crazy and I have to keep on pushing the button to wipe. I hope Tesla will also implement “auto” AP which is what I miss in the car from day 1 (coming from a VW with super good lane assist functionality back in 2015)
Incorrect. I have *not* taped off the interior camera.

All that ding dong is unbearable. I know some of it is because of regulation, but surely other brands implant it less annoying. I would go insane if I had to listen to that crap.
Bjorn you should have the CAR outside, because having it in the garage on the charger is not fair.
It's irrelevant since I can preheat outside. I keep it inside for convenience. And why is it not fair? It's not like garages are uncommon...
Here in Netherland most people do not have garages@@bjornnyland
Scavenge the heat from the battery with these temperature doesn’t sound efficiënt. I rather think the heatpump is at it’s limits.
It is if the heat has to be dissipated away from the cells, better to use it in the cabin than dump it into the outside air.
@@cbcdesign001During charging I can understand but during driving there seems no need to cool the battery. Otherwise it would not need to heat up the battery for fastcharging. Propbably the battery pre-heating is used for interior heat when the heat pump is limited because of too low outside temperature.

What are you talking about?! The car performed brilliantly, over 200kW charging speed and comfortable cabin in very cold temperatures. I’m no Tesla fan but their thermal management tech is amazing.
@@rui569 If you mean that in Chicago, several factors came together here:
1. There are a lot of people there who only rent the electric car on a daily basis and have hardly any experience in using it and drive to the charger with a cold battery, even though it is not necessary.
2. A lot of people there use the rental vehicles for Uber & Co, which then met at the last functioning charging park that day.
3. There were several failed charging points that day, including at Tesla. Electrify America was also defective for the next few days.
4. Some then simply parked their car at the charging park and thus blocked charging stations.
As long as you have the opportunity to charge at home, none of this affects you. Even a charging point at your employer or parking garage is sufficient.
"Out of Spec Reviews" was there after that news and interviewed the people affected and summarized the overall situation well, if you're really interested.
So it's more of a user error and there were also technical failures.
There is and has been the case with diesel/petrol engines when the wrong one was filled up or the diesel crystallized in the winter.
Extreme temperatures, along with strong winds, have always caused problems.
@@rui569 In Norway there has been more issues with ICE vehicles than EVs during the extreme cold weather we had had lately.
