      Troll the automobile auctions. Troll the Power Sport auctions. They regularly have 1 to 3 speedboats. They are just the stuff we want when the deck is soft, and the gunnels are faded from the sun.

    I was wondering how you were going to get the resin to bond the inside of the foam matrix surfaces. I cracked up when I saw the trash can drafted into service. Good solution.

    Making diagonal cutouts of coosa board to fill the corners of the transom might have been better for overall support.

      It depends on what foam is used. Closed cell won't soak up water. I think there's so much resin in the grids it provides a barrier. I used closed cell foam products on shower surrounds and it works great.

    Does anyone know if that foam will soak up water if there is a little break in the glass? I asked last time but guess he's got too many viewers to answer. Maybe other viewers have some experience with it. I bought a catamaran where someone filled the bottom of each pontoon with foam instead of having a regular bilge. Will it absorb water and become extremely heavy over time? Do I need to dig all that foam out and put in bilge pumps?

    • @reefslayer21
      @reefslayer21 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eventually yes, even though it’s closed cell foam I’ve tore into many boats where it was absolutely trash.
      The best thing is to repair any cracks before that happens, water will get in there and the foam will not allow it to drain.

    • @ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958
      @ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Not looking forward to digging all that foam out, but better than breaking the boat on the travel lift if that foam is full of a ton of water. I think there is about a foot and a half of foam in the deepest parts of the pontoon. Do you think it would drain if I dug down to the hull in the deepest place and put a bilge pump there? Would it drain and get pumped out? Or do you think the foam will hold the water like a sponge and I need to remove all of it?@@reefslayer21

    • @reefslayer21
      @reefslayer21 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958 if the foam is dry I would leave it and just make sure no water can get down there. That foam doesn’t soak water up like a sponge it takes quite a while till it starts to deteriorate

    You need an organic 3m filter mask when using polyester resin. The fumes and catalyst are very dangerous. 😮

    You fiberglass work seems kinda sketchy. One sheet of biaxial for the transom, little 2 inch strips to tie that back piece back in. !/2 foam. does seem very structural. Just saying...

    typically love the videos but this one was painful to watch. so many things just thrown together "good enough" style. Never rounded the edges of the blocks, never created fillets for the glass to sit over the blocks, lots of space between the final glass on the blocks and the reattaching transom fiberglass, you can literally see the fiberglass bending to the transom on the middle top screw. I hope he filled that in later but it wasn't on this video. You got squeeze out on the trailer tie down hook holes but not where the bolts for the engine will go? yikes....
