I’ve recently stumbled on to your channel. I’m not really a boater but I really enjoy restoration type videos. I have visited your website and was overjoyed with a page dedicated to the Gospel. Keep up the good work
I’ve binge watched a bunch of your videos. Being a boat owner since I was 14 (abandoned Gheenoe 15’6”) I thought I knew everything about fiberglass, gelcoat, outboards, trolling motors, etc. Where I truly sucked, and overestimated my skill level was cleaning, compounding, polishing and waxing. This was my favorite/most helpful of your videos. Just wanted to thank you for making the video and all the time you spent editing. Huge help with our 2006 Maxum, 2 2005 Waverunners, and a 2008 Ranger Ghost.
@@BornAgainBoating I owe you a beer or two if you’re anywhere near my hometown of Lakeland, FL (or as my wife from Atlanta calls it, “The shithole where Jeff grew up.”) or Everglade City.
All I use on my boat is 3M Perfect-it products. I was the red Cutting Compound, then level 1, and use the 3M wax. That stuff is amazing to work with, Stays wet for a long time, and easy to work with. Nice work on the Key West.
Love your content man. I really appreciate your attention to detail. I watched almost every one of your videos and just finished going through a 1986 Grady White i bought 2 months ago up here in CT. All the maintenance videos, gel coat repair, Yamaha engine maintenance was super helpful. Thank you!
Love your channel man. Learned alot and just enjoy watching in my downtime. I live in eastern NC on Outer Banks and love being out on my boat as much as physically possible. Thanks for all you do and teach sir
Your videos are amazing…so much honest info and incredible skill..thank you….btw do u ever ceramic coat ur boats?….I have had 2 done and am pretty impressed….
Thank you! That is something that I have super limited experience in, by that I mean, I have never done it but seen 4 different people do it and only 1 of them came out right with longevity, but my buddy Andrew does them all the time and it turns out amazing, it's like a layer of glass on you boat!
Great work and I thoroughly enjoy the channel. What are your thoughts on ceramic coating vs wax? I ask because I use a graphene ceramic coating on my boat and the durability in the salt seems pretty decent and the slickness definitely helps when I clean it after our trips.
Ceramic is amazing but definitely needs to be done properly or it can be a pain, I don't have a ton of experience with it but when Andrew does it it looks awesome!
Hey bud. Need to know a little more about that mini polisher. Is that a Milwaukee? I have a desperate need for that for my 32 year old boat with some very small spaces on the top of my gunwale.
Hey, I don't know where you can get a cheaper one, I haven't tried the Milwaukee one, it looks super similar though, that one is a Snap On, it's stupid expensive now if you don't use it very often but here it is: shop.snapon.com/product/14.4-V-MicroLithium-Brushless-Polish-Prep-Tools/14.4-V-MicroLithium-Brushless-Cordless-Polish-Prep-Tool-Kit/CTPP861K2
@@BornAgainBoating Thank you sir. I looked at all the polishers out there and they are all too expensive LOL. I just finished watching your second video on the new restoration project. Cant wait to see how you go about all of that. Looks like a tedious nightmare. Goodluck and have fun.
Was the gel coat oxidized to begin with in this situation? Will cutting oxidized gel coat work without wet sanding as a prior step? I have the same boat and it has a little oxidation so I’m wondering if I can do the same as you, Thanks dude!
Nah, not really a fan of Marine Mat or that stuff in south florida, the sun just melts the glue and they start to peel up, just not a fan, love them, the feel and look but the longevity isn't the best in this heat :/
Never heard of the pro glow, but poli glow, I've never put it on, I've seen it put on a few times though, two of them didn't come out right and the other one only lasted a few months and started to look really bad, so I don't have a great experience with it, but again this is second hand I never personally put it on just saw it those times and did not think I wanted to try it
Pretty much all of the boats are my personal boats for a few months before moving into the next boat we do :) I rotate through them, but this one is actually a really good friend of mine's boat, so he'll be getting it back soon, after I put a few hours on it of course lol :)

Okay that polish you used I can vouch that stuff will polish ANYTHING. Absolutely amazing stuff!

That boat doesn't have scratches and scrapes - it has character!
Wow, nice! That gives me some good ideas for my old boat.
Lol you need to compound that truck in the background
😂😂😂..I was lookin at it also thinking the same thing...dam..😅😅😅😅
Hey now, lol I'm going for that custom 20 year old sun faded red look lol :)
Omg, this "old" boat just needed some TLC and it looks as new again!! GJ,sir!!! Even the boat looks happier too!
Yeah it cleaned up really nice!
You can use kitchen / bathroom cream cleanser if you are cheap .
Great work on that boat... amazing improvement to its gelcoat... thanks for sharing
I have some staining on my boat and never thought of using bleach! You got yourself a nice boat..
I'm really enjoying this series. I've got an '02 1720, same boat and motor.
oxalic acid works well on rust. sodium hypochorite is good for organics. and a good surfactant will make easy work of cleaning the stains
Barkeepers Freind has Oxalic acid in it.

Great project the regular guy can even do, thanks !!
Look great, wish you could show how to restore a severely weathered metal flake bass boat.😅

Ceramic is amazing but definitely needs to be done properly or it can be a pain, I don't have a ton of experience with it but when Andrew does it it looks awesome!
Looks brand new, good job a lot of work.
Thank you!
I don't know why but, I love to clean my boat lol Great video BTW
Ok can you demonstrate that one more time on my boat 😂 thanks for the info.👍
:)
Taking off the hatches and lids makes life a lot easier.
Thank you very much, my dear brother.❤❤❤❤

How do you clean the bottom of the hatches?

No it wasn't oxidized, if you got bad oxidization then you gotta wet sand it first :/
Considering doing marine mat or something similar for flooring?
Nah, not really a fan of Marine Mat or that stuff in south florida, the sun just melts the glue and they start to peel up, just not a fan, love them, the feel and look but the longevity isn't the best in this heat :/
What pad are you using for compounding
The 3M Pads:
Compounding Pad: amzn.to/3NglIOm
Polishing Pad: amzn.to/3ZRZFVO
What pressure washer tip is that?
Not sure, just the one that came with the pressure washer, just a cheap ryobi
Me in the bathroom at 3am 6:31

I really dont care for the pads i used them one time and the fuzz was so horriable . They have the other ones like sponge they work so much better .
So satisfying
Right :)
Sweet job. Now, can you take 20-years off me?
Lol they can do anything in Guatemala with the right surgeon lol ;)
