Thanks for the video. I looked at their website after you posted the video and unfortunately it says duck down. I wonder why they charge over 500 dollars and don't use goose down.
This is an interesting question. I see a couple of their down jackets say 90/10 duck down. The other descriptions do not specify what type of down, only weight and fill power. On their website, you can go to the info section, and see the materials used. Under the down heading, it just says that they source their down from the food industry in France, and that they use the highest quality down they can find. The research that I've done tells me that they use both. Goose down in some products and duck in others. This is a good question to ask Norrona directly. All I can say, is that this Trollveggen Down 850 jacket that I bought is super warm. It feels like a really great jacket to me. I honestly don't know if it has duck or goose down. This jacket is the older version, and the description for it did not specify if it has duck or goose down. However the newer version does say duck 90/10.
@@meandmyjackets I noticed that the latest 'duck down' products are labeled with 'Water repellent is treated down with PFC-free chemicals to minimize the water pick-up and quicker drying.' DWR treatment does reduce the loft of down, generally capped at 850. Norrona seems to have replaced the previous 850-fill goose down with 800-fill DWR-treated duck down. Perhaps this is to offset the cost of DWR treatment, which might explain why goose down wasn’t used.😶🌫
The new version has side and chest pockets. The 800 vs 850 difference is about 15 grams of total fill power.. Duck or Goose, it doesn't make a big difference if it is certified...
Thank you for the clarification. I was not sure about the side pockets. I agree with you about the down, Norrona makes great products, I can't believe that they would fill a top of the line jacket with garbage. I know that mine is very warm, and well built. I don't think that they would make the newer version a big downgrade.
@@meandmyjackets Exactly, more fill power does not mean better always. most of the extreme FP jackets are fragile because the down needs sure light materials to have its loft without restrictions. Most expedition jackets that need to be ruggedized have FP of 550 to 800

Norrona used to use goose down, but the new models have been downgraded to duck down. Maybe the company’s financial situation isn’t doing so well😶🌫
