This makes me feel so bad, he lost his brother and has to clean the entire home they shared. I am so happy is strong enough to continue and has people around to help.
You can tell by the look in his eyes. That's not sadness, that's PASSION. He's thinking to himself "I'm doing this for HIM, because he would want me to do this. I'll honor his memory." 3:45 He's grieving by MOVING FORWARD, the kind of constructive motivation that is so brave to keep.
When even the camera crew is helping with the cleanup, you know the person they're helping is an amazing guy. I would love to be friends with Ray - he honestly seems like such a happy, friendly guy.
He passed away last year, after refilling the cleared parts of the house. The house was sold for 1.2 million after it cleared probate. There is an update on TH-cam.
I remember this episode. My first thought was, if I had a house worth $2MM, I’d sell it and move somewhere cheaper and live off the $2MM. But then you watch this episode and you realize that he belongs here-he’s a part of the community, something San Francisco has been losing. I hope he stays where he is, and is able to get his house habitable again.
If I had a 2 million dollar house. I’d consider whether I should keep it, is the house going to go up in value over time? Or if I did sell it, I’d put that money in the stock market, or buy real estate, or if i was sentimental about it, I’d keep the house and fix it up.
i cant imagine paying property taxes on a $2,000,000 house every year.. idk what property taxes are in san francisco but it has to be a good chunk of change
@@codyramos3200 property taxes in new York state for a 600k house is roughly 18k a year. I can’t imagine what the taxes must be for a 2mil house in California.

I've never seen such a positive hoarder. Is that bad for me to say? The other ones I usually watch are sad or depressed because hoarding itself is a mental illness so it usually affects them even worse. R. I. P Tony 🙏❤️
No it's not but he could also be just doing that on camera. Not everyone who is sad or depressed will show it. I seem like a happy shy person you would never know I suffer from depression.
My dreams for this adorable man : 1) that he finds the courage to fully clean the house and renovate it 2) find 2-3 people to rent some rooms his this big, beautiful house so he can have funds to maintain the building and is never alone

He seems like such a sweet man. I hate he lost his brother. I'm really glad he's getting the help he needs & I'd really like an update on his situation.
UPDATE for all who are interested: Ray Silmon died in 2022 at age 71. Unfortunately he went back to hoarding. His house was recently sold for $1.2 million, even if it was in catastrophic condition.
Maybe one day Ray will sell and take the money. But right now I’m really glad they understood that Ray can’t possibly can’t handle losing Tony AND the home they shared and made memories in. Maybe one day ray will be ready for that but that day isn’t right now and right now it’s important that he’s safe and can mourn a loss in a safe place. He needs his community and home right now. That really isn’t an option. Would love to see an update on Ray. I think I speak for everyone when I say We are rooting for him! RIP Tony.
This is the only episode that didn't disgust me, and its the only episode I've teared up while watching, then got such a big smile when he saw his new space and thanked the workers. So many great people work on hoarders clean up, they really deserve more recognition than they get. If you guys ever see this, know that you are wonderfully selfless people, and you deserve much more pay for the wonderful things you do to help others at their lowest points in life
I don't know what his brother was suffering, but I just wish that the healthcare in the US wasn't so expensive or that it was free, so that people like Tony could be given free healthcare and would not have to worry about crippling medical bills.
This gave me tears of sadness to tears of joy, especially seeing that camera man in full gear taking out trash while holding at huge camera, the neighbors, and then finally seeing the end result (although not finished). Would love to see the whole episode
