Awesome podcasts and info. I love the primo's bleat can. I also blow through it instead of tipping it. Sounds more natural!! Rattled in my 1st blacktail on Vancouver Island Nov 24 2014. Walked into an alder bottom the day after I found several fresh rubs in that area. Went back next morning at first light and sat 20 ft from some rubs just above a creek bottom where I was not visible. I waited about 15-20 min before starting my rattling sequence. I rattled lightly for 30 secs. Waited 3-5 min with rifle in hand. Rattled again but a bit louder and waited another 5 min with rifle in hand. Third sequence I rattled louder and more agressively for about 30-60 secs. Still nothing. I then decided to to pull out the Primos bleat can and blew 2 short breaths into the bottom. That's when all hell broke loose, all I heard was grunting, snorting and sticks snapping towards me and saw the buck running in a zigzag pattern through the alders. I was hidding just below flat ground behind a cedar tree and watched him put the brakes on just 15-20 ft from where I was sitting. He was standing broadside and I put my crosshairs on the base of his neck and squeezed the trigger. He dropped on the spot and did not move. I waited for about 10 min and walked up to him and could not believe this had just happened as I had never really put a lot of time into rattling. When I tell this story to other hunters, I can still see how it all took place scene after scene. I do think there was some luck involved as I have never been able to replicate this same scenario again. I have rattled/called 5 other black tails in since then but they responded much slower and only could connect with 2 of those 5 blacktails. Very exhilaratingto have thar happen. Any way just wanted to share my story and great info from you guys! Check out some of my trail cam footage 2whiteboxers on youtube. Happy Hunting.
I've killed plenty big deer off that mountain when my grandpa owned property up there. A very large black population up there. Thank you for these videos.
When using your grunt call how long do you generally blow for, ie. short quick calls or long drawn out one's. Also are you trying to mimic a mature buck or a younger buck so not to scare them off.
@@PMOUTDOORS24 Hi again. I was wondering if you have any tips or tactics for early season deer bowhunting? We live in the foothills of the Oregon coast range, on an oak savannah ranch, and it has been super dry. On my trail cameras I have been seeing them only at night. if you have any tips that would be great!
It’s a little bit of both. Being willing to help a landowner with work on the property like helping build or repair fence or cut wood Can go a long ways. Also, having an “in” is the easiest way.

Great video Garrett!

Wayne did a blacktail euro mount for me year before last. Sucks that he moved!
Yeah he did great work
Garrett, I really appreciate these videos! There is so little information on hunting blacktail deer. What is the call you use for doe bleats?
Thanks Tony. We use the primos doe bleat can and Wayne likes to blow into rather than turn it over
@@PMOUTDOORS24 Thank you
Do deer calls work in north western Oregon on blacktail? I have never heard a deer call on are ranch.
Yes they can be very effective. I’ve had a few friends who killed great bucks with a grunt and doe bleat

Does Wayne have a channel or website/book?
Do you have any tips for gaining access to private land or is it all pretty much down to knowing the right people?
