      I agree 100%. But your videos are very, very good. I believe if you were to break down even more popular titles (i.e. Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls) your channel would explode. However, Dishonored is my favorite game that has released over the past couple years. Thanks for these videos

    Revisiting after Death of the Outsider is interesting because you were 100% correct in assessing that the Outsider and the Leviathan were separate creatures, because we learn the Leviathan was the previous incarnation the void had via the Eyeless.

      I can understand them using the whales to power supply dunwall with lots of oil, meat and bones etc to support population, but if they need a energy source they can just use wind turbines or build a hydroelectric dam to power the cities in dristol and would save them alot of trouble and try colonizing pandyssia to expand a australia size continent with abundance of raw mineral resources, fauna and animals to use to make dunwall empire nmore stable and promote growth lol

      In my opinion they do have large scale power plants that use other forms of fuel or the elements, like we see the wind turbines in Karnaca. I think the whale oil is more like a liquid battery used to power smaller or portable devices. In the games we see that most devices powered by oil containers have been recently installed so they needed a quick power solution, perhaps they would get wired to the city's power grid later on. We see that the city has electric lighting and many large devices that are powered from the grid. The oil is most likely just a portable power cell.

    Dishonored: The Corroded Man contains info that also is extremely interesting when talking about Whales, more specifically the giant whales at the bottom of the deep sea called Leviathans. In this section you find that the main enemy of the book, Zhukov, a man in possession of the Outsider's magic, is in search of a Leviathan. He finds that one is buried beneath the Boyle Mansion, in a century old chamber. This chamber contains the bones of a great Leviathan, a massive whale. The Leviathan's bones, particularly the teeth, contain incredible amounts of magical energy. Enough to allow Zhukov to use a black mirror to see, and potentially pass, through time itself.

    I felt awful while playing dishonored at the whale slaughterhouse. There are documents there saying that killing whales made people mad, corrupted their minds, altered them into something else. Whales are truly magical in the Dishonored world.

    The way I always understood the connection between the whales and the Outsider (although none of this really has any proof) was that the whales, or their ancestors at least, at some point long ago in the past were "touched" by the Void. How or why, I have no idea. But this has left the whales with a connection to the Void. How much they can use this connection I have no idea, as we don't really get to hear if the whales have any real magical powers they can use.
    Now, over 4000 years ago there was another city in the place Dunwall would be on later. In this city they knew of the Void, and possibly worshipped it. They figured out that the Whales have some sort of connection to the Void, and sought to get that power. They made the first bone charms. But, these charms weren't what they were looking for, and so they decided to do something else: To create a connection between a human and the Void.
    What exactly they did, or how, is unknown, but they were able to do what they set out to do, with the Outsider being the end result.
    At this point I have no idea what happened, but I'm guessing the Outsider brought the end of the city, either out of revenge or just out of fun. Either way, that old city was lost. At some point the Outsider began to contact the humans again, and someone at some point figured out that by inscribing the mark of the Outsider on the whale charms they find in the ruins of the old city, they could either empower or concentrate the powers within the charms.
    So all in all, yes. The Outsider and the Whales have no direct connection. They are similar, that is beings with a connection to the Void, but that's where the similarities end. It is this similarity however, that makes the bone charms possible.
    Again, this is just what I imagined to have happened as I read through the books and lore of the game. Possible there's some Lore I never learned that contradicts this, but this idea isn't really meant to be a theory anyways, more like a "what-if".

    I've started to replay this series and I'm glad to find someone who is as into the lore as I am. It's kind of rare to see anyone who goes so far as to read the in-game books and flavor text even though most of the time that's some of the most interesting stuff in the games. All games.
    Dishonored is great for the amount of lore and world building it has going on.
    I hope at some point we might get a new game in the series. Maybe see the creation of a new Outsider or just get plopped into a world that is familiar and alien alike with a completely new Outsider and books scattered in the world tell us about the Empire of the isles falling, collapsing, and a new civilization coming up from its ashes.
    But I'm also fine with the series staying put where it is.

  • @Invader_Mannabis
    @Invader_Mannabis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One connection the whales could have is that their sounds could be connected to the void. The music boxes show sound/music can interact or impact the void. Whale calls could have this very affect. Infact that could be where the idea for the music boxes came from. Their are multiple times characters mention how they enjoy or are captivated by the whales song or lullaby

    • @Zayindjejfj
      @Zayindjejfj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Overseers music box could be seen as the antithesis of the whales singing and moaning. The overseers box negates the effects of the black magic.
      Maybe the songs of the whales have a reverse effect and bring about the influence of the void.
      Many people are attracted to bone charms and whale bones due to their void energy. The sound that these charms make are akin to a whale song if you think about it.
      Some people, even certain overseers worship these artifacts in secrecy.
      This affinity to the void's "sound" and ever looming prescence in the world that the humans have, seems very strange.
      It's as if the void and all it's representatives calls people to it.

    The notice in DotO about the whales being near extinct got me right in the feels. The immediate push of the populace towards digging for oil instead of thinking about the consequences got me immediately thinking of frakking, and how in the midst of a looming water crisis we're using loads of it to chug more "black blood of the earth" so we can doom ourselves on two fronts faster.
    Reading Moby Dick at the same time probably didn't help much. That book's a really hard read retrospectively.

    I think it was confirmed what they lonely rat boy's purpose was. He was the first to get the plague, and the first to spread it. The outsider himself set the plague into motion, which in turn set the events of Dishonored into motion.

    • @DigiPowerPT
      @DigiPowerPT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spack Jeeka It was Hiram Burrows who set the plague into motion, he brought it to Dunwall from some Isle or whatever because he had a plan (obviously backfired and too many people got sick). You can hear his confession on a low chaos playthrough. The Outsider doesn't intervene in any event, he only watches.

    • @jordang9477
      @jordang9477 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pedro the Outsider intervenes A LOT. You literally said it yourself, Burrows did not CREATE the plague, he merely imported it to Dunwall. However, there is no reason the Outsider would not already have seen that outcome, and it's still being speculated as to whether he as involved in the creation of the plague or not.

    • @DigiPowerPT
      @DigiPowerPT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jordan G I'm pretty sure he only intervenes when he gives someone his mark. The Rat Plague was just a virus Hiram Burrows brought from somewhere else, viruses exist normally, I dont think the Outsider would create such a terror in the world on purpose. He saw what would happen in the future and he decided to mark Corvo because it would drastically change the outcome and it'd be interesting to watch. In my opinion that's all he does. It sounds weird and out of character for the Outsider to create the plague.
      But that's my two cents, who knows. Reading the Corroded Man now 😆

    • @jordang9477
      @jordang9477 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pedro i do agree with you there, I honestly don't think he would care to do something like that. But I was just making the point that his influence extends further than a can comprehend, after all, he is basically the void haha!

      Jordan G Yes, you are correct. And you should really read it! I read the Wyrmwood Deceit, it was kinda boring to be honest. But The Corroded Man is really good. I'm very into it and I want to know what's gonna happen next. There's a lot of new information and references to old characters. And the new ones are great too.

      Josh W it's been shown in gameplay there's whale oil so it's unlikely

      There was a whale seen with some spears in it inside of a trailer. I believe there is supposed to be less whales/whale oil. Karnaca is more about wind power and doesn't seem as inhumane to whales. If you remember in the DLC a large whale is having oil extracted while it's still alive.

      +Alex Lucky Yea, I've been reading the Corroded Man, and it seems the whaling trade took a hit sometime between the end of the Brigmore Witches and the beginning of the book. In one chapter, the book states:
      “The thought did not please Emily, and, although she could never say so as Empress, she was secretly pleased that the whaling industry was slowly dying out. New power technologies were coming on line, thanks to the work of Sokolov and Piero, the two old scientists forming a reluctant and fractious-if rather successful-partnership at the Academy of Natural Philosophy.”

    The ending part about how he was trapped under the water and could hear the wahales reminded me of the musicbox the overseers use. Are they connected?
    The music box emits uniqe souns, as do whales. The whales and the outsider (so the void) are connected. The music box disturbs magic (magic coming from the void).
    I havent delved deep into this, but is it somewere stated the the musicbox emits sound similar to the whales?

    An amazing video no doubt. :D
    I feel like such a fool after watching this and the other video about Dishonored now.
    I always thought that the game had a lack of lore within it, that many things did not make sense. Bear in mind it was at a time when i payed much less attention than i do now.
    But still, thank you for your dedication and hardowrk in showing us this wonderful facet to this game.
    I can hardly wait for the next video.
    But i would like to make a single question:
    "After the third video about the Forbidden Trinity of Gristol, what will you explore next?" :)
