A return to Frictional, the studio that inspired the creation of this channel. Penumbra is the scrappy, film school version of Amnesia: the Dark Descent, and I love it for it. It starts out as by-the-numbers Lovecraft and ends as something wholly unique. I'm so happy to revisit it!

Welcome to the Gameological Dig, a channel devoted to playing games with obtuse and interesting stories. The aim of this channel is to treat these game worlds like an archeological site, meant to be unearthed and studied, so that we may better understand their plots, characters and themes.
Your Soma lore series pushed me to reflect even more on the game’s incredible story, and now again you are reminding me - us of all the depth in frictional games’ stories, all the details a player misses - treating the games as a monumental novel discussed in english class. I wholeheartedly appreciate your narrations and effort put into these series, you deserve all the support, thank you
Chances are pretty good that you won't see this, but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your continued work. There are few creators on this website that instil there work with as much thought as you do, breaking down games and literature into it's truest form, it's fundamentals.

I will say, Red's death is the most terrifying moment in the whole series of games by Frictional.
Addendum- it stuck in my head because well... I watched full Penumbra playthrough when I was like 13. I learned about Frictional Games through Amnesia- found a review of the game in a stray gaming magazine found in a library or something.

I discovered this gem of a channel due to your amazing SOMA series (which are to date still the best SOMA related video's on YT) and just had to sub after that. And while i haven't watched all your other stuff yet i'll allways check out anything frictional related. They're true masters of storytelling and you're the perfect guy to analyse it! I hope you'll eventually cover all frictional's titles (i'm especially fond of a machine for pigs story and obviously SOMA)! Keep it up :)

10:42 my theory is that is the doctor being attacked and dragged away by one of those dogs or things from Black Plague. I think red was also infected or one of the messed up ones and that’s why he wanted to die or that maybe he wasnt a normal human or maybe he had paranoid schizophrenia or was mentally ill like the other workers.
My god i just downloaded SOMA and i thought about your videos about it and i wanted to watch then but when i saw this video i said:"SOMA can wait"

So many people forget about this game when they talk about Frictional. People bable about Amnesia. Yeah, it had tech and scares, but Penumbra had better story. Good that SOMA has... Both, in a way

In par with the base game or above. I d be happily to see a full on analysis series of penumbra full with lore and games. All in depth
