    Thanks for the helpful video. My pressure regulator went out...at 260,000 miles. It was getting harder to start in the cold and when I pulled the vacuum line off of the top, gas poured out of that hose.

    Where the pressure regulator located, there’s a vacuum line right above it. Where does that line exit to??

      Sorry I don't check comments often. The pressure regulator vacuum line should go to the intake manifold.

    On page 6-62 of the Buick Century Owners Manual map of Underhood Electrical Center on the passenger side - the Relay that you pulled was in position number 35.
    This shows to be a MINI-RELAY labeled in the book as Fuel Pump.
    There also shows a Micro Relay which is in position number 19 labeled in the book as Fuel Pump as well.
    Should both be removed to release the fuel pressure or just the Mini-Relay pin in the numbered 35 position?

    • @urideemer4333
      @urideemer4333 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The relay you pulled (35) looks like the 15 amp blue fuse type one. the other (19) is a larger box style relay.

    Got the same car .got fuel and spark , engine turns over but won't start ?

      @matthewjeschke  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, should be starting then... Hrm, that's a tough one. You are fuel injected? I don't know when they switched to the distributor... What exactly does it do when you turn the ignition to start? Does it sputter? Try to start? Does the starter click or does flywheel / motor spin?

    I have a 1991 Buick Century with a 3.3 liter V6 engine and I am having problems with finding the scharder valve on my car. My car acts like it running out of gas and I’m figuring this will let me know what is going on with the fuel system in it. Can you tell me where it is because it’s not in the same spot as the car shown in this video? Thanks!!

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot speak specifics of your car, however, if it's multiport fuel injection (more than one injector), it will be on the fuel rail. Find an injector, above it will be a metal pipe / rail. Trace that rail / map it out. The valve will be on the rail, likely opposite side of where fuel lines plug into the rail. Good luck!

    I have a 1999 3.8 Chevy Lumina LTZ sedan. Can you access the fuel pump through the trunk or do I need to drop the tank? Thanks!

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, I am not sure, you can quickly tell if the fuel pump is accessible in the trunk by (1) feeling the trunk liner, do you feel any bolts around the same section as in this video? (2) pull back the trunk liner and take a look, you have to remove your spare tire to do this but is quite easy procedure. Best of luck with your repair.

    I have the same car. I’m trying to figure out if my fuel pump is out or if it’s just the pressure sensor on the fuel pump is bad. My fuel rail reading -1.6 on the short fuel line and -28.9 on the Long fuel line 🤦🏾‍♂️🤔

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      what are symptoms? Does it start hard? What if you cycle the pump a few times (turn key to on but not start two or three times) does it start better then?
      Also not sure if I got into this in the video... Do you have any vacuum leaks? Is your pressure regulator still connected to the intake manifold w/ the little vacuum hose?z
      Hopefully that helps. I don't recall the pressure spec for that vehicle off the top of my head anymore. Sold it a few years back.

      @@matthewjeschke I’m having a high idle sounds and when I put it in drive it takes off fast and when I put the car in park it the sounds gets louder. But if I cut the car off and cut it back on sometimes it would stop. I’m spending more gas then usual. I don’t have a vacuum leak no where and no check engine light.

    • @matthewjeschke

      @@screwedupdranksippamaybe it's an idle air control issue? Is your IAC stuck? It's a little stepper motor is on side of the throttle body. It's somewhat common for them to get sticky and stay open. This will cause the engine to rev / idle high up when you let off the gas.

    My 1998 Buick Century does not seem to display the correct fuel level on the dashboard. I replaced the fuel pump, but the fuel level indicator still seems to give incorrect readings. Do you happen to know if this has something to do with the fuel pump relay?

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +djwhut98 great question. It could be the fuel level float was damaged in the installation... or a poor connection with the connector to the pump. It's a bit of a tricky one to solve. Whenever I do a pump I try to assemble as little as possible and test along the way for this reason.

    Hey Matthew, my Century is older, a 1996, and it does not have a fuse/relay center under the hood. I cannot seem to find it. Might you know where it is located on that year? Thanks in advance. Michael

    • @matthewjeschke
      @matthewjeschke  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael H White good question, it's hard to say, check on the ends of the dash where the door meets it. There's an internal fuse box there on most cars. I have seen fuse boxes under the dash as well. Some even under the knee bluster on the driver side or under the back seat. I would actually do an internet search if you cannot see it. Sometimes they are a bit hidden and require removing a panel or two.

      Your car will start hard... It may also seem to lack power / hesitate when you accelerate. Your gas mileage will suffer... As it gets worse the car will idle very poorly... and or may not start at all. Hope that helps.

      You want to do a pressure test on your fuel rail. You can rent the tool for free at most parts stores. There is a schrader valve (like on your car tire) that the gauge attaches to. If you read low fuel pressure (or yours sounds like virtually no pressure) then there's a bad pump or clogged pressure regulator. That hopefully would narrow down the parts you need. Ask your parts store which they suggest.. or possibly just change both. FYI ~ I run fuel system cleaner, seafoam, through my car every oil change. It seems to make this stuff last longer. If your car is very old, say 250,000+ miles you may like to consider dropping the tank and cleaning it out. Dirt gets in there and can clog the pump, filters, etc in the fuel system.
