This the music Sly was takling about, and it did.....take me higher. These 3 guys are so special. Its proof of the creator that they happened to meet because it had to be them, dUg Ty Jerry, Keep rolling, age isnt just a number, its a trick, thank you for everything. You changed my life through the music yall make, all the best, love and respect. Noel
OH MY GAAAWWWD!!!! I listened to this with awesome headphones cranked up to fuck, and it sounds amazing! Blues in drop tuning is so badass! Keep up the awesome playing dude, awesome tones, great vib, and great feel. I'd also like to add that King's X are the best 3 piece band to ever walk the planet, and easily one of the greatest bands of all time. Kick ass cover!
Man, every time I think I have a King's X song nailed, I watch one of your vids and find some subtle nuances I wasn't getting. This time is was the chords at 3:33 that lead back into the chorus. I was just playing those on the E and A strings, which leaves out a gorgeous harmony. You provide a valuable service to us hacks out here, bro. And that improv lead was fantastic by the way. Thanks again.
dude, i've got a SERIOUS case of douche-chills right now...that was AWESOME!!! Great tone, great playing, and really cool camera mounting! Congrats, bro!
This is pretty sweet. I'm enjoying your channel very much. In the mid 90's, I produced some hip-hop tracks for a rapper you have never heard of. He said he wanted something really "heavy", so I took "Black the Sky" and added an even heavier drum track that matched what the guitar and bass are doing. It was "heavy" to say the least. You've inspired me to dig that track out and do something with it.
It's very cool to watch someone who "knows" Ty's playing. Forget the gear for a minute. Then you did the solo. And I "know" the solo. But you didn't do it. You did your OWN thing in the STYLE of Ty. And THAT'S why this rocks (scuse me) RAWKS beyond the tone.
@pinfinity OK, If yr in standard 440 you drop everything a step and a half and then drop the low E another full step. Glad ya liked. Not too shabby on the chops yrself there.
Thanks for the kind words. I had to pick real close to the bridge to keep the strings from flopping out of tune during the chorus. (9-42s in my circumstance). If you notice on the first chorus I wasn't close enough to the bridge and you can hear that first low string going sharp. I would state the tunings but most of the time I really don't know what they are. I just crank on the machine heads until it makes sense to my fingers and ears. LOL. Have a good one and thanks again.
TheScunion rules... tell me Scun... you do this for a living right? Love it! & while I dig Alex Lifeson too, to see you play those parts is sweet ... & I'm a crappy bassist!!! :-)
Dude, you're playing and interpretation are spot on. Every video I've watched you have nailed. What I'm trying to say is I think you "get" them. I've been a fan since Gretchen and haven't missed buying each of their albums on the day of release since. So, from one fan to another, what do you think kept this band from main stream success? I ask you because based on your obvious love of their music I am genuinely interested in your opinion.
I was about to call ya a liar...then I noticed a slight (extremely slight) variation on a couple notes..they stood out just a hair more than they do on the oiginal track...nice work.
@nedswebjunk I don't know what a douche- chill is but I can a truly apprciate the fact that you hyphatnated those two words whiich commands mucho respect. Thank ya bro and the best to ya, Newman.
@TheScunion ok dude, i know Protools has a tuner lol, c'mon bro, give up the tuning :-)...super nice job btw, I've seen two of yer vids and I'm an instant fan \m/ \m/
Just cruising through my Newman playlist early this AM to say hey, brother. Hope all is still going well for you. :-) BTW, were you chanting along with the guys towards the end of this one when you were playing along? HUAH! HUAH! :-) -Ed
moparedtn I'm sorry to hear that☹️ They took my tongue all the was back to the back of my throat. Believe it or not I can still talk and swallow They took a graft my leg. Amazing what they can do.
What tuning are you i here buddy? Been obsessed with the Dogman album as of late, Black the Sky being my fav track. But i cant find reliable tabs anywhere. I played around with my tuner and came to the conclusion his low E is definitely dropped to a B. I found that suprising given the year it came out. Drop tuning hadng really caught on yet yknow? Anyway i know im 4 yeard late to your video, but id REALLYY apreciate your opinion on the tuning. Maybe even do a lesson video ? 😉 Keep rockin buddy!
19LapisLazuli Thank you It's a low one. Tuning to it and checking my tuner I came up with, low to high B F# B E G# C# Basically tune your low E to D then drop all six strings a step and one half. I use 9-42 gauge strings so if u have light gauge strings I suggest picking close to the bridge or very lightly especially on the low E beings it's tuned down two and a half steps. Good luck 😊
Well there again I use a very light touch. I would say that I coax the strings to vibrate as opposed to picking them. Also again I picked very close to the bridge on the chorus instead of my normal position because the tuned Down E was going sharp. Picking at the bridge corrected that.
+Tape head Tune Low E down to D (full step) then drop all 6 strings 1 and a half steps. High to Low D Flat A Flat E B G Flat B It's down there lol Light touch required unless you have really heavy gauge strings.
+smartermelon When he did this album he was using a Mesa Recto and Zion guitars. I used the Elite and Lab Series amp and jst tried to dial it in as close as possible to the tone on the song. His tone was much more dirty and saturated by this point. I also believe he was running the signal out of the guitar into a box that was composed of some Elite circuitry. To this day I don't know what the box consist of or how it was used.
+smartermelon Well there again, if he was running his guitar out signal through elite active electronics there is a plus 20 db preamp built into the circuitry of the the Elite that would account for quite a bit of overdrive into any given guitar amp
+smartermelon Most of that tone is the Elite and the lab series amp. that combo just has something unique that I have never been able to get with anything else. Believe me I've tried lol. On my "What is this" and "Shot of Love" postings there is a portion right after that shows u all the gear being used.
Most Excellent. X is the pinnacle of melodic metal blues jazz chord hard rock!
Thank ya😊
You nailed the vibrato on the chords. Simply amazing cover of an amazing song by an amazing group.
Thank you very much!!!😊
Timeless solo..
Timeless groove.

Cool hearing the earlier rig sounds playing the later stuff! And your playing is SOLID!!
Thank you😊
All these years....I still come back...i fucking love all these Tabor guitar parts played so flawlessly.

Blues dripping from those fingers!! Top notch!
Sorry, 2nd comment. I usually don't like interpretation when King's X is involved but damn it man. You're killing it!

If that solo was faked then fake away sir. Bone-crushing rendition.

This is spot on it seems. I don't suppose you have music/tabs you'd be willing to share?
I'm sorry
I can't read or write tab
I just figure them out by ear
it's quicker for me
love it yo
Great Video
very nice...
Awesome job!
why does the title say "early tone" when dogman was not an early tone? this tone is not the L5. It's Marshall and Mesa Boogie. ?
I was about to call ya a liar...then I noticed a slight (extremely slight) variation on a couple notes..they stood out just a hair more than they do on the oiginal track...nice work.

Hope all is well with you😄
@@TheScunion Keep the faith, brother. Had my 4th last July and am now missing another body part, but still here.
Eh, just another pill, right? :-)

Please tell us the gear you're using to get this (one of my all time favorite tones) sounds.

Ok nvm on the tuning. I read through the comments and as i figured its drop B. I'll give a solid attempt to tracking this one out by ear i guess
19LapisLazuli Thank you
It's a low one. Tuning to it and checking my tuner I came up with, low to high

Is there some kind of short reverb or slapback delay happening?
Hey nice cover, just wondering, whats your string gauge set?
9 -42 Very light touch and picked very close to the bridge on the chorus
Thanks for watching
TheScunion O.o B tuning with 9 - 42???? Are you kidding??? Those strings must fret buzz like hell and feel really flabby or am I wrong??
Well there again I use a very light touch. I would say that I coax the strings to vibrate as opposed to picking them. Also again I picked very close to the bridge on the chorus instead of my normal position because the tuned Down E was going sharp. Picking at the bridge corrected that.
this rules, btw.
Thank you
That's very kind of you
Do you remember what wah were you using?
:)
What tuning is this in?
im pretty sure its drop B
every string 2 and a half steps lower or just the 6th string?
Drop B
Sergio Anónimo Drop B is thick E dropped 2 1/2 steps (5 half tones) the rest 1 1/5 (3 half steps)
Wich tuning is this? I wanna try it (-:
+Tape head
Tune Low E down to D (full step) then drop all 6 strings 1 and a half steps.
High to Low
D Flat
A Flat
E
B
G Flat
B
It's down there lol
Light touch required unless you have really heavy gauge strings.
