Co-wrote this one with Ty in 1986-1987 while we were roomates and KX changed it just a little and ended up using it. Those were very creative times I will always cherish...
Very cool. I mean, every track on Out of the Silent Planet is good, but the 5th, 6th(king) 7th (what is this) and 8th(far, far away) are so massive, such a titanic middle section of an album. Just recent really discovering King's X, and needless to say.. Huge Fan!
Of all of Newman The Scunion's videos, Far Far Away has the best f***ing recording quality in my opinion. I can taste it, I can't believe how good the tone and the playing sounds.
@@pcolabeach50 I asked Ty about it one time and he said it was standard tuning (with the exception of the E being dropped a full step). He then proceeded to say he wished he would have learned it tuned the way I do lol.
@@TheScunion that's awesome. I pretty much had it down with just drop D. Then I started to learn your version and it was pretty tough. But love the way it sounds.
TheScunion Scun we need 'Everywhere I Go' covered : ) please please please.. and 'Talk to You' haha how bout just every song off the 1st 5 King's X albums. I think you've done most already. Absolutely love your playing. King's X is my fav band. I'm picking up my guitar lately, and trying to get better. You inspire.
Man, I love your precision with Ty's incredible playing! One of my King's X favorites! Thanks for showing me how to jam on this one! PS, I am a bit jealous of that there guitar! But you truly deserve to be playing it.
MY ALLTIME FAVORITE KINGS X SONG!!! AND THAT IS NOT A STATEMENT I THROW AROUND LIGHTLY.... OR EVER!!!! WHEN DOUG KILLS THAT "FAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR AWAAAAYYYYYY" SCREAM 65% OF THE TIME IT GIVES MY CHILLS,,,,, EVERYTIME!! LOL HAD TO THROW IN THE ANCHORMAN QUOTE...PS BTW PLEASE LEARN SILENT WIND!!!
At first I thought he was just pretending to play along, then it slowly dawned on me that this guy has actually mastered Ty’s tone. Please play some of his solo stuff! Ie: senseless paranoia
in my video post, note i learned the riff without dropping the g.... i learned it by ear. this makes the first part of the riff look easy... two stings under a finger on the 3rd and 5th frets.... i don't think i can retrain myself to do it this way. besides detuning 2 strings is a hassle.... d is easy.....
Just so I understand with my layman's knowledge, you have the same make/model guitar Ty used on those first four albums and have achieved the same tone as well? Hats off to you, man! I recall in one of Ty's videos that his amp had a lot to do with it also. There was something about the amp not working correctly that actually achieved a unique sound.
+jdryyz As far as I know this was the stuff he was using then along withe some other JAPE (EVH expression). In regard to the amp being broken or goofy it had something to do with the power section or speakers being wired out of phase which really wasn't a factor by the time he got around to recording the classic first four. By that point he was using an external power amp and speakers. I have a friend who had purchased an L7 and it was really thin compared to mine. Turns out the speakers were wired out of phase where as two of the speakers were pushing while the other two were pulling which in turn causes a lot of the low end to drop out. We corrected the phase and BOOM, it was fat as hell. I'm thinking Ty was referring to the fact that his amp being broken meant that the onboard power or speakers were no longer out of phase which in my opinion is a good thing.
Wow...you've got the tone & feel nailed. This is the closest I've ever heard. You're vibrato is pretty spot on too. Are you sure you're not related to Ty? Any chance you might detail your rig setup or even possibly do a video for "Sometimes"?
Awesome as usual! Wouldn't mind knowing what effects you are playing through. I get totally inspired but trying to cop the riffs at full speed is not an easy thing. I need the "For Dummies" version.
@Politcalamity You can find them all over Ebay. I find it much easier to play the song with the G dropped a half step. Just seems to make more sense in terms of phrasing the song properly, otherwise yr doing some pretty awkward fingerings especially on the 7th chord of the opening riff. However I am looking forward to seeing how it's done without retuning the G. I am always open to learning and it's what makes us all better players. Best to ya and talk to ya soon.
G is dropped a half step??? Really??? Is that how Ty does it??? I play it in standard dropped D with no problem. I was just kinda surprised. Great job playing it Scunion. The solo was killer. Rock on bro
Yeah, I tried to play it without dropping G and it worked... Did Ty really played this song with G string half tone down? I heard him in a video saying that in the past with king's x he carried lots of guitars because of "stupid tunings" lol. Don't worry, we're not trolling xD your videos are great!

Just started trying to learn this. 13 years ago and I'm just seeing this now. That was great! Incredible job!
Thank you.
Just a little tip, although Ty didn’t do this tune your G sting down a half step.
Makes it 100% easier to play.
@@TheScunion wow I didn't know you did that. I thought I had learned it wrong when I saw your video. Now I guess I have to pick a tuning 🙂

He is the INDIANA JONES of tone, for sure!!
Is this a Japanese one? The USA's had a 12" radius.
Thanks Hanks :)
awesome man! sorry what pick ups are those?

Link to why G string is probably dropped a half step on Far Far Away

and i couldn't remember the first part of the solo....
Yeah, just standard dropped D is how it's played. Makes sense, since most the song is in D.

even ty himself is watching your videos and that is saying something. he is probably trying your tunings
Talked to him in Dayton last fall
He said he did not drop to G but said he didn't know why he didn't think to do so lol
He was an absolute gentleman.
It is much easier to play with the G dropped
Yeah, I tried to play it without dropping G and it worked...

Mr Tabor is the ONLY guitarist in history to be able to make a strat sound great all the other wankers should just quit...
