I've played guitar since 1974 and always gravitated toward players who had smooth vibrato and cool tones. No slop. Ty is one of those. Brian May. Tom Scholz. David Gilmour once he found his tone and style, on and on. The players who play each note as if it's meaningful are the ones who rock. Players who slop through faster than they can handle, will never achieve greatness. It ain't about speed. It's about da music!
Dug speaks often of playing in "The Groove" in interviews. This one is surely a prime example of that. This songs' groove is DEEP. Stellar job as always, sir. Made my Saturday!
"The Scun" Man this guy is amazing i have been watching these vids for a almost a year now and it never gets old !! I love it the lyrics you can hear it all clear and the scun, man he has great skills wish it was me !! playing like that ........
This is probably my favorite. Just awesome. Big pat on the back for execution, right down to the tiniest details - like the subtle G droning picking patterns. Super duper job, dude.
@TruthSurge It's the genius of Ty. He has a huge sound, but very clear and easy to hear every little detail. He plays some really nice chords too. One of the most underrated players anywhere in the rock world.
im a huge Kings X fan for years now and Ive always felt that Ty was...well just incredible. thanks for helping people realize how great his playing is (yours too may man). keep it up.when I need a guitar player Im calling you!!!!
I've owned a guitar for twenty years and can't play it. Couple years ago I started taking lessons, didn't get far, and some crazy Life Stuff happened and I had to ditch it. Right now I've got all the time in the world and am procrastinating...want to start again, but I'm sort of mentally prepping to actually follow through this time. Anyway, I feel like I'm learning just from watching your videos. I love how your picking hand seems to barely move.
Your the only Guitar player that has played the lead NOT half-assed,and im a drummer who listens ha ha..Your Still doing a amazing job with Ty 's riffs and tone..Thankyou so much...
me too Jeff. The solo in that song is to me, the best blues solo (& solo in general!) I have EVER heard. It stuck out & instantly & violently grabbed my attention the 1st time I heard it, & I MUST learn how to play it so I can incorporate it into my own 'style', unremarkable as it is (MY style, not Ty's!!).😎
Great playing! Loved that tone Ty got but alas all in the fingers and you are right on the money. Also got an Elite and L9 I've had for a long time. Doesn't have the original EV in it anymore, instead a JBL K130(which still dates back to 78) but the EV was the right speaker for the L9. I take it you are playing through the L5. Thanks for the post.
@TheScunion Hi man good to hear from you too! The new: Now at 40 I decided at last to get an alltube amp (Since I was 25 I've been using amp simulation from Tech21 and Line6, after) It's a different beast for sure! I uploaded a little video yesterday and couldnt avoid playing some KX's stuff :-). Stay tuned for mure music ASAP. Best regards, Vinnas
I'm curious, for anybody that's really familiar with this song, would anyone agree that the song would have been even more killer & certainly noticably more rockin had Ty played that last verse starting at 3:38 throughout the song, instead of just the final verse as recorded? It just sounds SO tuff man!! 😋
Hey Scunion , how you doing? Just love King's X but wish your camera was straight on like the old ones so I could see exactly what your playing. Make these covers like lessons because no one is doing these guys especially old album's. Thanks anyway and your a good guitarist. Peace man.ñ
hey man, is this the same video you put up on your other account? i dont remember you playing the solo on the other one :O sorry if im wrong but its awesome anyway! 5* \m/
awesome. very fun to watch. love this song. are the first 3 notes of the main riff the A, D, & G strings open??? Or are you hitting the 2nd fret on the D string? Very curious. Thanx for posting this as well as your awesome version of Lost In Germany
Yes it was but at that point he was still running his guitars through a preamp he had fashioned from the electronic guts of a Fender Elite. Also this was kind of a take on what that song may have sounded like using the classic rig

It's crazy how that sound can sound simultaneously dirty and clean. The chords don't sound garbled but still sounds pretty distorted. Cool.
Everything TruthSurge said. Oh yeah. Scunion is the best I’ve heard bar none. A nice droll sense of humor too. Thanks

Truth surge, you said it all. Thanks man. Peace.
Isn't it the best? And regardless of of what he is playing through it always sounds like a million bucks. I'm speaking of Ty of course.
This jams. Love this song. Ty is the tone king

Love the way the.thumb shows up like a dorsal fin, Strikes!! Then slides back below the surface 😆😆😆😆
Dave Decker One of those unconscious muting things that I wasn't even aware of until a couple folks and yourself pointed it out😂😂😂

WOW! you must love Ty to play like that. eXcellent. God be with you mate.
That was awesome!! One of my fave songs from Kings X
Still waiting for for Flies and Blue Skies sir! You are my hero so I know you will come through for me!

Great videos, playing and tones! I have watched them often when trying to figure how to play these songs!
cant get enough of that tone Thanks love it

This is AWESOME! I used to listen to that song over and over and over when that CD first came out. Dug your solo also, well done man!
Thank you. REALLY appreciate your guitar work and your kindness for sharing. Kind regard.
Thank you very much Ed.
@KingTabor Good to hear from ya bro. I'm pretty sure it's standard tuning but everything is dropped a half or full step, can't remember which.
@TheScunion Hi man good to hear from you too! Candy for the ears and eyes!
Thank you for posting this bud!

It's just too cool not to learn note for note. LOL
Same one brother. Thank ya much.

I think it's more powerful because he only does it once ... I always love that moment in the song!
Thank You.
@guitargeek616 figured it out by ear. i do pretty crappy with the tab stuff
I'll get it for ya soon bra and TY as always

Norlin L5, L7 or L9. distributed by Gibson in the 70's.
Duuuude -- I totally got lost in this vid. Since Ty probably won't leave KX then perhaps you can team up with Paul Rodgers? : )
Great job. I've got my eyes on a walnut elite for sale on the local craigslist. what amp??

Glad u liked.
You are correct, first three notes are open A, D and G.
Hope that helps out and best to ya friend. :)
Very well played! But wasn't that the Zion/Rectifier period?
Yes it was but at that point he was still running his guitars through a preamp he had fashioned from the electronic guts of a Fender Elite.

TheScunion Ah ok!
@luvisacigarette8 One needs his critics on occasion :)
Is that actually Ty playing in this?
@@robhasenwinkle I wish I was actually as good as Ty!!!
4:22 IMO
how'd someone dislike this? clearly just a drunk
