174 fountains, still producing beauty since my last visit there in the 1970's. St. Petersburg is a place I could spend years.

I visited St Petersburg on 7 November 2011. I can't travel any more due to ill health and lack of money. This is a fantastic account of your time there and brings many happy memories back to me. Thank you.

When I see this two-day tour, I am both highly impressed, but also nauseated at the countless palaces of gold, rich paintings, gilded ceilings, ceremonies and all that historic money used to build what has been described as a confection, a facade to impress the Europeans during the time of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. The surfs had to totally transform themselves from bearded Rus people to European smart people. St Petersburg was not built without loss of life, starvation and obedience to Peter's vision. I particularly enjoyed the ordinary things of the early morning shots that show the buses coming and going, and a chap sweeping the pavement. Now that is plain, ordinary existence which I feel more comfortable with. .Nonetheless, a great video.

What gorgeous architecture!! Russia has some of the most beautiful buildings in the world. I wish America would preserve it's historic buildings like other countries instead of tearing them down to put up Walmarts and parking lots. The building @ 23:40 is just magnificent. Thanks from northern Michigan for the tour !

+yooperlooper The European cities would be much more impressive, if WWII wouldn't be started. Some very old cities were so much bombed - that they have just 10-5 % of the old town left, smoler towns in Germany, Poland extinguished after WWII and no sign left of their existence :(

Санкт-Петербург был разрушен слишком. Он был в блокаде 900 дней и ночей и каждый день обстреливали и бомбардировки.

3:53 The guide says that StPete was the first sea port in Russia. This is not correct. The first sea port in the northern part of Russia was Archangel on the White Sea.

Because he knows this tour route and the city vary well. And so decided to entertain this tour group during his morning jogging workout. but at the end of the day he was just a young man with a lot of energy to burn.
