To listen to your performance of the Rachmaninov first piano concerto in the venue where I heard Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto for the first time in December 1992, is absolute stunning! I had the privilege to adopt our daughter in St. Petersburg and that concert was another pinnacle!

Thanks for the helpful, constructive criticism! Since it was my first performance of this piece, and we only had 80 minutes total to rehearse, I was mostly concentrating on being with the orchestra. Plus the conductor asked me not to play too softly. I hope to get another chance to play the piece at some point, and will try to add more variety to my sound. By the way, you must have a great stereo system/headphones attached to your computer, to hear subtleties like tone color!

Also TH-cam cuts the sounds quality for anything but 1080p. So if your video is playing at 480p you will be getting a lower bit rate for the sound.

    Dear Soheil Nasseri,
There are no words to describe your performance: perhaps life yearning for itself might be a try. It was especially amazing to see a man so expressive and emotional with his body movement. Something I have not seen in my life. My very best to you. You are a blessing to this world. Sincerely, Peggy Soomil from Eugene Modern Dance in OR. USA

Thank you for this great performance of a rare piece. My brother and I are hotel bound in Tehran for the past 30 days and the next 30 days when our flight back to Santa Barbara might take place due to Corona virus shutdowns. So we're drinking coffee watching the snow covered mountains on this first day of Iranians new year March 20, 2020. Happy Norooz to you too.

It is indeed a shame that this concerto has been collecting dust on the shelf for over a century.... this pianist, unknown to me... does a great job. the 61 people who did not like the performance .... well what can I say? I heard Byron Janis perform this concerto years ago... and while this guy's interpretation is different it is great ..... anyone who can put these notes together has my respect and admiration....... great job

How can you say he doesn't have the "passion" for it? That's just your - opinion - of how it should be interpreted. I think he plays this - and Rachmaninoff in general - beautifully.

This is my most favorite among all four.Rachmaninoff has a perfect score with no revision when he submitted to the panel of the Moscow Conservatory in 1891 for composition examination. The reason is plain and simple, nobody did it any better than Rachmaninoff himself and for the next century to come.

Una delle più belle musiche di sempre, interpretate in maniera eccellente da Nasseri e dall'orchestra. Stile pulito e dolce, volutamente più lento delle altre esecuzioni, che scandisce bene ogni singolo momento e dattaglio della meodia

To be fair, Rachmaninoff’s other two concerti are far longer, denser, and greater pieces. It’s more that they just outshine this early composition.

It was not until Rachmaninoff that I became interested in piano concertos, and right now Concerto #1 is my favorite. The video is perfect and very pleasing aesthetically with the audience reflected in the piano as if it were translucent (20 minute mark for example). It really makes the music even more enjoyable to watch the hands at work on the keyboard.

Great accompanied by the St. Petersburg Academy and Alexander Dmitriev.

One cannot even touch Rachmaninoff without a sense of awe...almost a 'holy thing!' LOL If you play the piano anyway. There will be a different feel, a different sound altogether. It will not be the challenge 'note wise,' it will simply be your soul, exposed, through your fingers, through the mind and incredible depth of Sergei Rachmaninoff himself! :)

I wouldn't know how to analyse this performance musically to save my life, but I know the value of what my ears and my heart tells me about it and it certainly struck a chord with me. Following on from what the man himself said about the two versions (original and revised) being played here, simultaneously, I wonder if it's now a collector's item??

Just different approaches , differents sensibilities ...slow , fast , very technic or less technic but with with more soul ... Every musician is different ... listen Evgeny Kissin or denis Matsuev ... the great vadimir Ashkenazy , and try to understand my words ... good listening .

Sure, but there is such a thing as proper performance practice. While it is okay to push the boundaries of performance practice (as Gould did for example) straying too far afield is not a matter of "preference" but simply incorrect interpretation. By way of example, if I were to play a Bach prelude the same way one would a Chopin prelude (with rubato and peddling), it should come as no surprise that I would be critiqued for such an approach and receive a failing grade (figuratively speaking). It is not a matter of my being "individualistic". Simply I would be wrong to not respect the appropriate performance practice for Bach.
