Great video and I think a great drone, I love spotlight and waypoints and the compression you get with the zoom Lens , the A2cofc unlocking the restrictions for bigger drones is great, only 5m separation in cinematic mode so not too different to the mini 3.
Same size sensors, but not the same sensors. DJI Air 3 has stacked sensors , which outs the circuits behind 2 other light sensitive layers. Huge difference!
Love my Mini 3 Pro and my Nano Plus but they are so light that I really have trust issues with them in the wind. Especially the Nano Plus with it's Mickey Mouse Motors!!! LOL!!!
Cheers Ian. My first time watching stuff about the new Air3 and you’ve covered it all honestly. Cheers and best drone channel for honest and concise info we all need to know without BS.
I like it a lot, but I'm going to wait and see for an Air 3S. Being that I own the Air 2 and 2S I'm just not sure about this one. I guess time will tell if it's going to be worth the buy. Thanks again for sharing Ian. 👍👍👍
Great to see an honest, rather than sponsored / gifted review finally, but as mainly a stills shooter I'm not convinced with the backward sensor move and will hold on to my cash for the inevitable 3S. I'll enjoy my 2S in the meantime. DJI seems to have hit a habit of either compromising on, or dropping the ball on, launches since the Air 2S. Every time I think I'm going to pull the trigger on either an upgrade or addition - from the Mini 3 Pro to the Mavic 3 and then the Mavic 3 Pro, there's always been a 'but'. Air 2S for me was the last home run they hit on launch. And don't get me started on the seemingly impending redundancy of my expensive RC Pro moving forward..... Thanks for the initial impressions, good to get the spin you put on it as this is the first time I have seen it operated in sport mode, I am looking to bring my channel to the next level and I do think this drone will help, anyways you have a new sub, I will be keeping my eye on future reviews.. cheers 🍺
Not really for me - knocks out all the advantages of sub 250. Mini 3 Pro - constantly amazed with this drone - wind - no issues at all too. Great video.
I am not impressed by the Mini 3 pro. Sold mine 6 months ago. Camera isnt detailed and i was having issues with the wind. Air 3 beats it in every aspect. Handsdown. I prefer multiple camera drones. I also have the Mavic 3 pro.
You can land the drone into your hand with switching on the S Mode before you want to land. Works pretty good. However nice video. It's indeed a really amazing drone. Thanks for sharing it.
Great first test day. You probably should buy the Master airscrew props if the noise pitch is annoying, the big boy Mavic 3 is literally half the pitch with the upgrade props. Even if you loose a couple of minutes due to softer props it's really good. Interesting about the C1 drama in the UK, it will be handy for sure when they figure it out. It was the very first thing I did on my Mavic 3 purchase.
Great first review Ian, speed is amazing can't wait till I get one, was going for the M3 Pro but this is the one for me. Can't wait for your next review on it
if this is your first drone, then the Air 3 is the drone for you. I got the Mini 3 pro so for now, and got the chance to try the Air 3, both videos and photos. Impressive though.
Great video!! Love what the Air3 has to offer!! I have the mini3Pro & Mavic 3 contemplating on if i want to get the Air3 smh…. Note: hand catching the Air3 is much easier once you deactivate the APAS 5.0 Thanks for sharing!
One minor correction regarding max ascent/descent speed. DJI Air 3 holds the fastest out of any DJI "camera" drones. However, The DJI FPV has no limit in manual mode, and is 15 m/s in sports mode 👍
Another comment…What I am glad you mentioned is the obstacle avoidance! So great! Not many other reviews even mention this! It is one of the main reasons I want it. My Mini3 has met a few trees in its lifetime, oh and once ended up at the bottom of a pond. :-(
@@IaninLondon no unfortunately I had to replace it. And what bothers me more about losing my drone is thinking that I’m contributing to electronics in a body of water and the batteries polluting
Really hope DJI can put omnidirectional obstacle avoidance in the mini 4 pro. I don't mind if the battery size is reduced to keep it under 250g. Active track 5 is also so much better.
Nice vid Ian. The only downside that I have found is the gimbal cover. It feels like it's going to shatter each time I take it off and put it back on 👍
Hello Ian, thanks for this video. I'm waiting for more videos to come. I am sure it´s a great drone. Living in the EU, the C1 label is perfect for me as it's almost on par with 250g drones in terms of restrictions. I love my Mini 3, but the next drone will be a "real drone". I won't be buying the Air 3 right now but I'm hoping the Air 3S (pro) will launch soon. If I spend >1500 euros, then I would like to have a 1-inch sensor with a variable aperture - which I asume will have the Air 3S.
Sometimes labels/rules also have advantages😁. Actually, the Air 3's C1 label is a big reason for me to buy this drone, I guess the Air 2S will never get that label. The second most important feature is of course the tele camera along with the night mode. And yes, side sensors are very welcome too. Ocusync 4 seems to have a much better penetration too. The only thing I'm not really happy with is the noise of 81 dB...I am sure it ill be the perfect drone for me with - as said - with the 1 inch sensor and variable aperture hopefully to come with the Air 3S (some say an Air 3S will never come....).
Excellent presentation, mine arrives today via Amazon, but "big but", need to a get a minimum 100w power supply which should charge a battery* in about 1 hour, so I purchased an Anker 737 from Amazon rated at 120w as neither the DJI recommended 65w & 100w power supplies are available from the DJI shop or anywhere else apart from fleabay? * Not found any information on how long it will take to charge all three batteries when installed in the hub and of interest when charged in the drone DJI says the power is limited to 65w and therefore expect an 80 minute charge time.
yep; as you say, a 65 watt charger will take around 80 mins instead of 60 mins. If you have a 100w charger, they will charge in an hour; three batteries will charge in series, not parallel, so they will take 3 hours in total....
Just charged all three in the hub using the Anker 737 around 60 mins each and there was not any noticeable heating up of the power supply so thanks for the advice.@@IaninLondon
That shot when ya fly up from the corn crops looks brilliant. I liv ein Liverpool, city life, can you suggest any reason for me to buy this as I want one so bad?
Another great vid, Ian. I'm still buzzin' around with my Air 2. Considered an Air 2S, but now the Air 3 is out, I am considering that. It would be a step-up in sensor size from the Air 2. I am also considering a Mini 3 Pro for the ease of travel and limited regulations. I fly for personal stuff and fun, although I am licensed for commercial and would like to do some drone work. Any thoughts on upgrading to one of these, 2S, Air 3 or Mini 3 Pro? I was hoping to move back to the UK but just accepted a position in Italy, so may be going there in a couple months. Thanks!
At what altitude does the Air3 noise blend into the background? I am deciding between the Mini and Air. I have my drone license and the budget. Noise is a concern as I do not want to be a nuisance.
There is no doubt that the A3 is louder than the Mini 4 Pro, but quieter than the Mavic 3. Once it gets to around 30 to 40 m high, you would have difficulty hearing it, but in any event, it's way quieter than a typical family with young children. It's more about where you intend to fly and the proximity of uninvolved people that should dictate your choice, not the noise of either model.
@@IaninLondon here in Canada we have to stay 30m away from people. I have no intention of coming close to people and want to remain as anonymous as possible. I like the larger Air3, but the 10 dbl over the Mini is what concerns me. So my question is this. If I am responsible and keep away from people as best I can, will the Air3 still be overly noisy? How noticeable is it at 30m or 60m AGL?
Thanks Ian for that demonstration and comparison. The Air 3 looks fairly impressive so far especially with it's powerful performance! That thing should be a beast in strong wind! I miss that with the Mini 3 Pro. Still, I think I will wait to see what DJI does between now and next summer. Will there be an Air 3s or Air 3 Pro?? We will see. Thanks for sharing.
@@IaninLondon I am big fan if my DJi air 2s and its 1” sensor eagerly waiting for air 3s if it comes with one inch sensor with one extra tele lens the main thing i am waiting is 360 degree tracking and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance
No mention of the stacked sensor in the Air 3. That makes it superior in performance to the same sized sensor of the Mini 3 Pro, resulting in better images.
Great video , I’ve been waiting for this as I value your opinion. Does this have ADSB the same as the air2s ? . Looking forward to your further videos to come with this , thanks as always . Scott
Would you go for the Mavic 3 or the Air 3? I have a 2s and am filming kitesurfing so I need zoom to get close without getting caught in the kite lines. I also film in 25-35mph winds
If size, sound and money isn't an object, then the Mavic 3. With its bigger sensor, you will get better stills. But if you're just after 4k video, the Air 3 will be brilliant
I wonder if it's possible to attach a small tablet, like the Tripktek onto the controller? I really don't want to do without my 2000 nits screen. Thanks for your vids mate!
Thank you for the great video . I am from uk just bought air 3. What legal precautions I have to take . Could some one pls link a source ? Thanks in advance
Excellent review. I'm between this and getting the mavic classic. Do I need the second camera or the larger sensor? Not sure. I would be interested in the max flight altitude as I fly in Bolivia, where many mountains are 6,000 metres high and my poor air2s can't even take off. The mavic, I believe, can go to 8,000 mtrs above sea level. Thanks for the review. Excellent as always.
I’m not so sure. In all other ways the tech on that drone is one generation behind. If the sensor is the only issue better to save up and go for the full mavic 3 pro. The zoom camera surely is a game changer especially for landscape work where you’re most likely to be shooting from distance
@davidro77 Thanks and all good points. I cant affordthe mavic 3 Pro, so im discounting that one. I take a lot of photos for news, etc, and the air3 12 megapixles sound like a lot less than the 20 you get on the air2s, and I think 20 on the classic. Still undecided. I definitely want longer flight times than the 18 mins you get on the sir2s. Which both give you. Weight and size are unimportant for me. I like the charger options on both as well.
Great review! The Air 3 looks great, but its size & cost are giving me some pause. Think I'm going to sit with my Air2S for now. Thanks for posting. This video was very helpful
What resolution you get when screen recording with RC2. The first RC was less than 1080 (I believe 720) and very laggy. Is this now improved with the RC2 ?
great video thx! was wondering why no one else on you tube has pointed out that the different obstacle avoidance modes change flight behavior which does seem to be weird as isn't it the main flight modes that effect its flight behavior? and obstacle avoidance is just whether or not it stops or try's to find is way around objects. and when it does make it way around obstacles it does it slow and smooth so why would its flight characteristics be jerky? lastly is the obstacle avoidance settings universal for all flight modes or is there one for manual flight and one for autonomous flight? thx for all your time!
It just doesn't have the same wow factor of the Mini 3 Pro, which admittedly was my first drone but I'm constantly amazed at how capable it is given that it's literally palm sized when the arms are folded. Also I would really miss hand landing my drone if I had this.
As always Ian, brilliant review. Unfortunately the Air 3 does not do it for me, like you the sensor size is the problem. The additional lens is a very worthy addition but now the Air 3 is released I am happy that the Mavic 3 Classic is my choice.
Everyone saying the ‘sensor size is the problem’ clearly don’t understand the stacked backside illuminated tech or seen the sample pics / videos. The only argument would be for those shooting still photography only but yet to see any samples that suggest it’s worse
I don't know...I'm a part time drone enthusiast and having the 70mm zoom (the biggest selling point for me) and extra speed/power is quiet appealing, not to mention the better low-light performance, waypoints, and collision sensors. Coming from a Mini 3 Pro, I think it'd take awhile to get used to the much louder drone...the Mini 3 Pro is so discreet!
So...is the Air 3 the end of a phase that began with the Mavic 3 in November 2021, or is it the start of a new phase ending with the Mavic 4? What makes this question matter is 04 transmission and the compatibility of controllers, especially the RC Pro. If buyers have to upgrade to a new RC Pro 04 (DJI apparently haven't decided yet) then I imagine there will be a great amount of dissatisfaction and frustration.
Good point. I think there's more to the continuity of a series then just the transmission system. I have no doubt there will be an air 3s in the next few months. I have heard rumour of another Mavic 3 iteration but frankly I'm struggling to see how they can push out a fourth model on that, unless it's to handle O4.
I've got the Air 3 to go alongside my Mini 2. Very big jump up in every way. Very pleased with camera quality. Only gripe is in Pro mode, you have to adjust the shutter speed every time you switch lenses because of the different apertures.
Yes it's a worthy successor to both Air 2S and particularly Mavic Air 2 - if you consider that DJI hugely increased every single spec on the aircraft, controller and transmission system. 04 nearly DOUBLES range - more importantly it is order of magnitude increased penetration. Flight time 48% increase and yes Video Image Quality is hugely increased even low light in spite of a smaller sensor. It's a stacked, dual native ISO, backlit with adjustable noise control and sharpness and the magnificent 12800 ISO night mode as I have on Mavic 3 Pro. It's also the fastest ascend/decending drone DJI has ever made - it beats Inspire 3 and Mavic 3 Ascend/Descend speeds. Quieter, quicker, longer flying with nearly double the range, MUCH better low light performance and offers Waypoints, Cruise Control and more. I would say that qualifies as "worth upgrading" but it quite a bit more expensive when you add everything up. Fly More is $1550 in US and does not include ND Filters or even a charging brick! Still IQ is the true test and while Air2S camera eeks out a better photograph- video side by sides literally put any discussion of IQ and low light video to rest. Check out Quickass Tutorials and Original Dobo side by sides. Sensor tech has matured, and DJI is taking advantage of that to deliver a small, agile drone that delivers most of what Mavic 3 Pro gives me for roughly half the price. For Social Media Creator's -its a superbly targeted product. I LOVE IT! Might sell Mavic 3 Pro and just keep this!
"It's also the fastest ascend/decending drone DJI has ever made" No it's not. DJI FPV still faster. Ascend speed 15m/s in sport mode. In manual mode even more.
Hi Ian well what can I say, been looking at the New DJI AIR 3 now since its launch and my finger has been over the BUY button on and off, and on again but still have not hit it yet, to be truthful with you, flying restriction come into play here as I only fly as a hobby so no real flying over people, and I like to fly in the countryside as you have seen with most of my Videos, but I have a feeling there will be more restriction coming in now this beast is on the market, at the moment as you know I have the Phantom 4 the Autel Evo 1 an d the Mini 3 pro, so keep asking myself do I need the Air 3, ok only time will tell, thanks again for a very informative video and looking forward to your Videos when away at the weekend, hope the weather is kind to you when Down South, regards TJK UK.
@@IaninLondon Look forward to your assessment on the AIR 3 IAN in a longer flight test and a full test of all its functions and your unbiased comments, regards TJK UK.
@ianinlondon Doesn’t the Mini 3 pro now have cruise control after latest Fly app update? I haven’t taken my M3P out lately to confirm. But that is my understanding.
@@IaninLondon Pretty sure I saw someone do a hyperlapse shot, starting the motion using the sticks, and then pressing a button (e.g. C1) and the drone continues the same motion. You need to configure a button to “Cruise Control” as oppose to the default. Apologies in advance if I have this wrong. But think the above is correct. I really need to get and and try it practically myself! Cheers.
@ianinlondon After a test, I guess we are both sort of right! mini 3 Pro only has CC in Hyperlapse (for some bizarre reason). But you can use it when in Hyperlapse free mode (as well as Waypoints). Seems off that it allows it to take Hyperlapse photos but crestrict it from non Hyperlapse.Cheers Pete
Hello, great video. I’m considering buying a DJI Air 3 and I’d like to know how reliable the obstacle sensors are. Are they trustworthy enough to truly rely on them to prevent any impact, or is it advised to fly the drone being extremely careful with potential collisions, using the sensors only as an additional aid? I get that they might not detect thin wires or branches, but regarding larger objects they’re supposed to avoid, are they 100% reliable or are there instances where they aren’t? I’m asking because if the sensors are only 70% reliable and fail 30% of the time, I might be better off getting a DJI Mini 3, which is cheaper and lacks sensors. Thank you very much!
The position and angle of the upper OA sensors does give upwards protection. From the official specs: Upward Measurement Range: 0.5-18 m Effective Sensing Speed: Flight Speed ≤ 6 m/s FOV: Front and Back 72°, Left and Right 90°
Long video today! But a lot to get thru. Hope it helps you work out whether this will is for you?

Nice and informative video Ian. Would miss Portrait photos of the mini3 and not sure about the increased noise, otherwise some great features.
Ah, in fairness I never use portrait, although I they're easy enough to crop, you'll be losing even more resolution of course 👍🏻
I always enjoy your reviews. Thank you Ian for posting. Looking forward to more.
Another great, useful, informed video. Cheers, Ian! 👍
Note: hand catching the Air3 is much easier once you deactivate the APAS 5.0
Thanks for sharing!
Gardens looking nice Ian 👌
Do you like my lawn mower tan? 🤠
Thanks for all these tests and video Ian! And great to see the yellow ball we call the sun in your country for once! hahaha
One minor correction regarding max ascent/descent speed. DJI Air 3 holds the fastest out of any DJI "camera" drones. However, The DJI FPV has no limit in manual mode, and is 15 m/s in sports mode 👍
Absolutely fair point 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Another comment…What I am glad you mentioned is the obstacle avoidance! So great! Not many other reviews even mention this! It is one of the main reasons I want it. My Mini3 has met a few trees in its lifetime, oh and once ended up at the bottom of a pond. :-(
Ow! Did it dry out? :)
@@IaninLondon no unfortunately I had to replace it. And what bothers me more about losing my drone is thinking that I’m contributing to electronics in a body of water and the batteries polluting
@@gerrykpDon't lose to much sleep enjoy your life its short.
Good first flight and review Ian.
Thanks Lyn 👍🏻👍🏻
Great review mate👍
Thanks 👍
Great video Ian, would be good to see some comparison shots between mini 3pro, air 2s and air 3.
Will do
Really hope DJI can put omnidirectional obstacle avoidance in the mini 4 pro.
Fair points and I'm very envious of your C1 freedoms 🤠
Good factual tovideo mate 👌 I will stick to my Mavic Air 2 😘🙌
Ian,this is Jim in fort Myers,Florida! Love your channel😁
Howdy Jim!! 🤠👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Mini 4 pro is out now u should consider that also
great vid thanks what camera are youshooting this with? look very good
At what altitude does the Air3 noise blend into the background?
I too was wondering why i got this drone... but i think i've finally figured it out.
Nice video Ian. Teddy seems to think that it is a little loud as well.
Yeah, haven't seen him jump up like that for a bit 🤠🐾🐾
Thanks Ian for that demonstration and comparison. The Air 3 looks fairly impressive so far especially with it's powerful performance! That thing should be a beast in strong wind! I miss that with the Mini 3 Pro. Still, I think I will wait to see what DJI does between now and next summer. Will there be an Air 3s or Air 3 Pro?? We will see. Thanks for sharing.
I'm betting an Air 3S before Christmas 😉
@@IaninLondon Thanks Ian! I bet it will be another heart-breaker just like the Air 2s did to the Air 2! We will see. Thanks for replying my friend!
@@IaninLondon
I am big fan if my DJi air 2s and its 1” sensor eagerly waiting for air 3s if it comes with one inch sensor with one extra tele lens the main thing i am waiting is 360 degree tracking and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance
Bit louder than I like I love how quiet the mini 3 Pro is
No mention of the stacked sensor in the Air 3. That makes it superior in performance to the same sized sensor of the Mini 3 Pro, resulting in better images.
Great video , I’ve been waiting for this as I value your opinion. Does this have ADSB the same as the air2s ? . Looking forward to your further videos to come with this , thanks as always . Scott
Yes; forgot to mention that. I had to activate first time powering up. 👍🏻
@@IaninLondon is the bigger drone a lot louder?
I wonder if it's possible to attach a small tablet, like the Tripktek onto the controller? I really don't want to do without my 2000 nits screen. Thanks for your vids mate!
I think it's a bit messy to attach another screen. Although in truth I haven't tried. It's a very bright screen on the remote 😉👍🏻
Hi is there a way to enable manual decent on this Air whilst its in RTH ? The Mini 3 Pro does it but i can't seem to do with with the Air 3
subject scanning is greyed out on my mavics the 3 the 3 classic and even my mini 3 pro , any ideas how to enable ?
Great video as usual 👍👍
Thank you for the great video . I am from uk just bought air 3. What legal precautions I have to take . Could some one pls link a source ? Thanks in advance
I have dji air 3 coming today, can't wait.
Me too. Hope the flight time is no less than the Mavic 3 as some people are saying (actual flight time)
Excellent review.
If you were seriously considering the Mavic 3 classic, I would go for the larger sensor personally.
@@IaninLondon thanks. I'm leaning that way.
Was tempted , but the new mini will be released for Christmas
Great review! The Air 3 looks great, but its size & cost are giving me some pause. Think I'm going to sit with my Air2S for now. Thanks for posting. This video was very helpful
What resolution you get when screen recording with RC2. The first RC was less than 1080 (I believe 720) and very laggy. Is this now improved with the RC2 ?
12:10 "Recording screen and AUDIO"? Is there a built in microphone now?
In the RC 2? Hadn't noticed that.... Will check the footage 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Planning on going to Scotland in the next couple years. Being from the U.S., what will I need to fly my drone there?
great video thx! was wondering why no one else on you tube has pointed out that the different obstacle avoidance modes change flight behavior which does seem to be weird as isn't it the main flight modes that effect its flight behavior? and obstacle avoidance is just whether or not it stops or try's to find is way around objects. and when it does make it way around obstacles it does it slow and smooth so why would its flight characteristics be jerky? lastly is the obstacle avoidance settings universal for all flight modes or is there one for manual flight and one for autonomous flight? thx for all your time!
As always, as long as the video helps make your mind up, job done 🤠👍🏻
Everyone saying the ‘sensor size is the problem’ clearly don’t understand the stacked backside illuminated tech or seen the sample pics / videos. The only argument would be for those shooting still photography only but yet to see any samples that suggest it’s worse
Most of us part-timers drone enthusiasts , have the mini3pro which is enough ... air 3 air 6 wont change our minds
I'm waiting to but the Air 3 until they make it compatible with my RC PRO controller.
Is there a way to bind the 3X Zoom on one of the C Buttons on the RC2 Controller?
Is ‘bricked itself’ another technical term?
Absolutely! 😀
great watch
I've got the Air 3 to go alongside my Mini 2. Very big jump up in every way. Very pleased with camera quality. Only gripe is in Pro mode, you have to adjust the shutter speed every time you switch lenses because of the different apertures.
I thought that was not necessary. Hmm?
Consider the Freewell ND Split Filters that addresses the concern of two different apertures openings.
Hi Ian , with all the drones you, have how do you manage to keep all the batteries charged and in good condition. Ta
I tend to leave them half discharged until I want to use them. They're all pretty good and keeping themselves in check.
I read somewhere it has a stacked sensor, whatever that means. I think it means a faster transfer rate from the sensor!
can you inform me about maximum altitude for dji air 3
I bought two and ive found sometimes the max descent is only 5m and other times nearer 10m (both in sports) - are your always 10m up and down ?
Great write up there and good points
"It's also the fastest ascend/decending drone DJI has ever made"
No it's not. DJI FPV still faster. Ascend speed 15m/s in sport mode. In manual mode even more.
I bet the mini 4 will have the same optical avoidance and transmission.
Can only hand land in sport mode as turns off obstacle avoidance.
Of course 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers!
Thanks Thomas. I'm dodging thunderstorms and torrential rain as I type........ Maybe better tomorrow 🤠👍🏻
@@IaninLondon Look forward to your assessment on the AIR 3 IAN in a longer flight test and a full test of all its functions and your unbiased comments, regards TJK UK.
I have a flight mission and I want to stabilize the speed and altitude without any change
@ianinlondon Doesn’t the Mini 3 pro now have cruise control after latest Fly app update? I haven’t taken my M3P out lately to confirm. But that is my understanding.
It's only in Waypoints I thought?
@@ThePeteW Yep, I meant hyperlapse.... I was walking when I replied before. Yeah, it's crazy you only get it for that and not just normal flying.....
I never rely on Obstacle Avoidance as failsafe. Twigs or powerlines can be missed......
I would not worry about the censor that much. it is fantastic.
Those antennas sticking out of the remote, do they screw in?
No
A couple points, there is no vertical protection. Much prefer the 3X single lens on the Classic, makes flying less complicated.
The position and angle of the upper OA sensors does give upwards protection. From the official specs:
Upward
Measurement Range: 0.5-18 m
Effective Sensing Speed: Flight Speed ≤ 6 m/s
FOV: Front and Back 72°, Left and Right 90°
