    Watch the horizon start to lower in the frame starting at about 2:40 in the video (about 30mph). That's when it stopped keeping up with the truck. The drone didn't get anywhere close to 40mph.

      Maybe but I think it was closer to the 35 since I did raise it up. There was no wind and the specs say 35 mph .

      @@JandE-TEX-DRONESjust a heads up as far as operating from a moving vehicle (auto or boat) you’re not allowed to operate the vehicle and the drone at the same time. You mentioned your home points set to your controller, how does that work? Are you saying as you are moving and the drone loses connection the return to home feature will bring it to where you are with your controller in your current location?

    • @JandE-TEX-DRONES
      @JandE-TEX-DRONES  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well there is a flaw in it. The idea is say your taking off from a location and you start walking or driving or moving. If the drone needs to RTH it will go back to the location where the controller is at. Unfortunately, and I hope DJI FIXES THIS . If you’re moving, it does not update in real time where the controller is located. So the last time you set the RTH either to a location or the controller, it will go back to that location not your current location.
      So just keep that in mind if you do go on a hike and you have it set to your controller or you have it set to the original Home point you want to update your Home to the controller before it comes back.

      Its easy . So first thing dont reach for the drone. Just hold your hand under drone when your ready. Keep holding down on left stick down on the controller . Drone will come down just give it a few. Then I just grab from the bottom on either side.
      At this point I only take off and land using my hand. I don’t like the drone touching the ground at all. This way I dont have to worry about finding a place to land and take off.

  • @driewiel
    @driewiel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Looks all great. But.......
    it won't avoid obstacles at that speed. You must put the drone high and far enough from any hazards. In that case the cheapest GPS drone (if fast enough) can do the same using GPS follow-me instead of active-track. What's more, with a correctly programmed follow-me you can have it fly in front or next to you. And it will not lose you.
    Unfortunately few drones, or should we says apps, have the right type of follow-me, including the very important homepoint update. Too long story to write here.
    Anyhow, for this reason DJI people believe the feature is inferior to optical tracking. It's not. It's different. often follow-me is more user friendly and safer. If I had to choose between follow-me and active-track I would pick follow-me every time. And I will never risk a drone this price relying on the obstacle avoidance. The best sensors are those in my head I was born with.
    Of course a $1000 drone should have both. It just shows at DJI they do not understand how things work in real life. For me a drone without follow-me is a crippled product. But with Maven, Litchi, or Dronelink the problem is solved once they are compatible. Maybe you can compare active-track with follow-me in the future?

    • @JandE-TEX-DRONES
      @JandE-TEX-DRONES  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes at that speed I doubt it will avoid anything. I am not that brave to test that at those speeds. Of course I have done the active track and it followed me great around trees and other objects but again this was just a walk. I have seen other test and I want to do mine own with more obstacles. I totally agree on the home point update. I feel once you select controller location it should know where the controllers is at even if it is moving maybe DJI will correct that with the firmware update.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JandE-TEX-DRONES Yes optical tracking with obstacle avoidance is great to get certain dynamic shots at walking/slow cycling/driving speed. But you have to look on the screen to see what the drone is doing. While with, what I call 'compass type' follow-me you can put it north south east west of you in view. And if the feature is done right I can use the sticks, steer it around any obstacles, do fly-by's and stuff, and soon I let loose it will still follow me. Now I don't recommend flying a drone with the sticks while driving a car. But on a bike the best shots are done manually. The follow-me feature is only there to keep the drone within perimeter. So I can watch where I'm going when needed.
      The best follow-me drone ever made is the Fimi A3. It has a controller with built-in GPS. It is extremely responsive and accurate. I can have it fly one meter away and it won't crash into me if I suddenly stop. So I wonder how quick the GPS could respond with a DJI Smart controller if it works with a third party app with follow-me?
      This said, my funny $130 L109 Pro does an excellent job following the phone. Keeps me perfectly in the frame, I can use the sticks, and it even automatically updates homepoint to where the phone is, or was when I stopped follow-me. I wish the gimbal and camera were better, because the video quality it too poor for YT. I have been looking for a drone that does the follow-me equally well but with better video! Nothing found since.
      So again, if you have a DJI model that works with Maven, Litchi, or Dronelink then please try follow-me. I believe for the Mini 4 Pro they are still in Beta stage. They do work with the Mini 2 and Air 2. My question is, does the Air 2 still have obstacle-avoidance with GPS follow-me? Nobody tested it yet. Drone reviewers are not hikers/bikers. They give the tracking features little attention. But there's a lot to it.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JandE-TEX-DRONES DJI's optical tracking I always call active-crash. People think the drone will avoid anything from trees to oncoming traffic. I've seen them miss cars by a fraction. 1/10th of a second later and it would have flown into someone's windscreen. And in auto-360 you don't have any control whatsoever. how can that be considered safe and GPS follow-me not???

      @@JandE-TEX-DRONES What DJI is doing is much like a square wheel. With a whole lot of effort and resources you can get it to work like a round wheel. Then everybody thinks square wheels are the best. In reality peopled cycling around the square world never use active-track. They fly their drone manually. Because for now active-track is pretty much a gimmick. You just can't get the nice smooth cinematic shots of the landscape with you somewhere in it.
