Gaelic football in this era,the mid to late 70s was a period to be savoured,it was so exciting and imaginative. Just look at the passing movement that led to Dublin’s 6th point scored by Bernard Brogan,that was a lovely sweeping passage of play so reminiscent of that era,todays game is just not geared to that kind of football,instead it’s sterile and dull. Then you have Mikey Sheehy’s beautifully executed free,curling inside the post,though it was not a free,really Gaelic football was a joy to watch in those years.
The amount of soft frees Aldridge awarded to Kerry especially in the early stages was insane,really did his best to stifle Dublin’s rhythm and gave Kerry the breathing space they needed when Dublin were dominating. I always wondered what kind of game it would have been if a different referee was in charge. Dublin had a reputation of being hard and physical,convinced Aldridge was determined to curb their aggression.
Hardly robbed they got an 18 pt beating. The Bomber tore Dublin to pieces that day. Spillane, Egan, Sheehy, Power, ran them ragged and Jacko was immense.
The Kerry fans acted in a dispicable manner,constantly barracking Paddy Cullen who was originally elbowed by Ger Power with a late tackle and then tapped Power on the ankle. Aldridge handled this game terribly,always penalising Dublin for trivial things.

@@dylanduffy1995 easy to say that in hindsight,Dublin were in control until Aldridge gave Kerry 2 outrageous decisions which lead to 2goals
