  • Shane grew up Shredding the local surf in San Clemente, CA. As a sponsored athlete he was hitting the surf 3 times a day and competing on the weekends. Two wheels has always been a way of life for him. He basically grew up on a dirt bike and frequented places like Ocotillo Wells. After High School Shane got his first taste of the American V-Twin Scene by getting his first Harley-Davidson. Of course, just riding wasn't enough for this extreme sports athlete. Shane now pushes the limits on his 2005 Dyna Super Glide.

    Hey Guys it’s seems a lot of people are making comments about the “safety” of the activities going on in this video. Let me flip the tables a little bit. Do you ride a motorcycle? There are A LOT of people in this world that would agree that motorcycles are too dangerous, and yet here we are riding them. My point is people have different levels of personally accepted RISK/REWARD beliefs. I’m not advocating that everyone that watches this video should go out and try to wheelie their bike. Shane has been performing pro level stunts on 2 wheels for a long time now.
    Now I agree that doing stunts on public roads and putting other riders at risk is not good. Which is why we went to a deserted road that is a dead end with no through traffic. Unfortunately a random truck came. Shane has taken full responsibility for his actions including making sure the owners truck is paid for and taken care of. He was in no way hurt physically. The cops where called and everything was taken care of in the appropriate way. We tried to take every precaution to make sure we were not going to affect anyone else.
    The bottom line is we all make choices that we have to live with the consequences. Have you ever exceeded the speed limit? That’s against the law too and can be considered dangerous.
    Anyways guys, sorry for the rant but I just want this channel to be a place of entertainment and gaining knowledge about Harley-Davidson motorcycles. At the end of the day there is nothing safe about riding motorcycles. Did Shane increase the risk? Yes, but that’s his personal decision. If we all played life in the safest way we would stay inside and watch a screen all day.

    Taking responsibility is paying for your mistakes; not others. I see you say he is paying for all the damage etc. But then go on stating how “we” should get him a new bike. No. Paying for your mistakes is coming to terms you screwed up and were riding on the wrong side of the rode, wheeling, and crashed into someone on a public rode. You should pay for your new bike period. What is it with this new entitled generation. Know what I did when I wanted a proper bike? I worked my ass off till I could afford one. Not start a gofundme. He and everyone else in this world can work for what he wants and can do without till he gets it. Maybe you should offer him a job, remove the gofundme, and do it the right way. Im sure you will not, and that’s fine. But don’t get pissed people tell it like it is. And it’s not hate from the community, it’s called people calling a spade a spade. It’s you not liking that people that follow this channel are not on board for paying for other people’s poor judgement.

    Only video of yours that I've ever given a thumbs down on. I have no problem with people wanting to do stunts on motorcycles. However, a public street is not the place to do it. In all of your other videos, you've given the impression that you're promoting safe riding out on the road. You mentioned in the video that the road was usually deserted. It's assuming things are safe is what gets people killed on our roads. A friend of mine in high school found that out when he came up to a railroad crossing near our school. He fell into the trap of assuming that because there was never a train at the crossing before classes started that he didn't have to stop for the stop signs at the crossing, which at the time only had the X-shaped crossbucks and stop signs. He went into the crossing doing about 50 MPH. At the same time, Amtrak's Capitol Limited, running over an hour late entered the crossing. The engineer had seen my friend's car pass the warning sign without slowing and, realizing he wasn't stopping, hit the emergency brakes, slowing the train to about 70 MPH at the time of impact. My friend's car hit the front truck (wheels) of the lead locomotive. The engine portion of the car was twisted upside down to the rest of the car and shoved back into the passenger compartment, killing my friend instantly. It's something that haunts me to this day, even though it was over 30 years ago. It was also something that could have been completely prevented had he not assumed that things were safe just because they'd been safe before. Likewise, the accident in this video would have been prevented by going someplace safe to perform the stunts rather than doing them on a public street. While I have no trouble with your wanting to sponsor a stunt rider, the fact that you're putting up video of his doing stunts on a public street on your channel, in my opinion, contradicts the responsible riding in your other videos.

    Nice to see someone wringing everything he can out of his Harley-Davidson. Bikes are built by the moco to be ridden safely but once bought modded to be ridden however the owner sees fit! Shane will learn a lot from the crash, including having an experienced spotter, but it's great to see his enthusiasm. Kind of funny to see so many wet-diapers in the comment section. This kid ripping a wheelie on a loud motorcycle on a very quiet street is NOTHING compared to all the drivers on cell phones texting, scrolling social media, etc... might be someone at a red light reading this comment right now. Keep up the great work Matt. Hang in there Shane & get back in the game soon brother

      @@deltaecho1776 You're thinking best case scenarios where most people do what they need to do at a red light with little to no problem, however, I live just outside of Boston. If you've ever spent much time on the roads here, you get it. I got rear-ended on my FXDL by a nurse in a Honda Pilot while stopped at a red light. I have hi-viz on, I have extremely loud Vance and Hines ShortShots rumbling away. Why did she accelerate into me? She was on her phone and thought the light turned, so she went, no higher level brain involved, just stimulus and response. The light was still red as I tumbled into the intersection. I don't want people on their phones in the car for a lot of reasons, one of which is I want to avoid the worst case scenario happening to someone I love. These things tend to make sense and hit home more once you've experienced them for yourself.

    Public roads always involve the unexpected. Stunt riding should only be on closed courses. That crash could easily have been much worse. Thankfully the injuries and damages were minor, but stunt riding on a public road is always a potential disaster. On a personal level, I feel for Shane, but if I or someone I care about (or anybody for that matter) was on the receiving end of that, I'd be pretty damn angry. Makes us all look bad. That's a true So-Cal Dyna bro! Great that you are sponsoring him. Now get him syncd up with some of those professionals out there, like Rob Carpenter @rob_1wheelrevolution, so he can learn more. Ignore the haters, you were trying to find a remote location not the busy public roads or highways or canyons where there was a lot of traffic and put other people in danger. It was a fluke-accident. I try to find a remote deserted road out in the middle of nowhere when I red line so I limit the risk to others and myself.

    • @mgelliott1
      @mgelliott1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it wasn't a fluke accident, the car was in view BEFORE he did the wheelie. Just like when we were all kids playing ball in the street or riding skateboards. When the car comes (and they do), you stop what you are doing, and move to the side, until the car passes. As such, he did not take a generalized risk (as Matt states in his comments here) he took extra risk...like people that turn corners and do burnouts in Corvettes and then slide off the road into a tree or other car. If you are going to do high risk items you minimize the risks of the activity you are engaging in.

What if he would have died. What about his family. What about how the car driver, though 100% innocent, would feel? I watch Jon's Moto Garage. This due wheelies Dynas but he NEVER does it next to an oncoming car. Sorry. This was stupid, or more to the point, he wasn't experienced enough to pull it off w/o incident. 40 Year ago I started Motorcycle riding like Shane as a Motocross Rider with Age 13 on a privacy Ground ( from the University in the next Town ) ... I'm soo sorry for Shanes Mistake, but He have learned a Lesson for Life, "Only make Stunts, when you have a safe and wide Space, where you can't and no other can't you bring in Danger 😉 ...
    So you can minimade the Risk

    I remember when I was 20. 10 ft. tall and bullet proof. Not so much any more....lol. Shane seems like a good kid. He's awesome and he's learning the hard way. At least you tried to minimize the risk rather than pulling stunts on the busy street or freeway. When you see stunt riders at places like Sturgis and other meets, they're on blocked off streets and roads. Even then I've seen accidents. Contribute to Shane's GoFundMe? No. You play you pay. He's in your video, you pay. Nobody helped me when I fugged up and went down, which I'm now paying for with painful arthritis in my knee. But I suck it up & don't complain. I've been to too many rodeos where I've seen 40 year old cowboys who needed canes and walkers so I took a lesson from that observation. I know having said that may seem cold, but all the best to Shane and a speedy recovery.

    I had a 2018 Street Glide Special almost like your's Matt. I sold in March when I broke my ankle in 3 places and I have a recent shoulder injury. Both happened walking my dog so as far as I'm concerned walking the dog is more dangerous than ridding my Harley ever was. Next spring when I'm fully recovered I will get another Harley and continue riding. Accidents happen I'm glad Shane is not seriously injured! Keep up the excellent content!

Crossing double yellows in a full wheelie on the wrong side of the street hmmm🤔 If the cop had seen that you’d have some serious bail and lawyer bills to add to the list yo!

    Matt, I would support anything you do....except this. Harley’s aren’t meant to be ridden like a dirt bike, unless you want to join the circus or race flat track around the country. Remember what happened to Indian Larry... I’m more concerned with the guys truck who didn’t deserve to be run into by this irresponsible rube. Not judging, just not cool.

I have been riding for 50 years and yes I have done dumb stuff but with today’s social media exposure it intensifies the need to one up the other guy. Personally since it was being done on your channel I would look to you for compensation also. Check our your liability before you do this again
