It's wild to hear Brett talk about matches with Owen being "easy", when I remember their steel cage match and Bret performing a superplex off the top of the cage, into the ring, and wondering "how did that not hurt?"
Easy matches were the kind where they knew the opponent would not hurt them, where they worked fluidly together, where they could both do anything and the other would be able to handle the style or move. He must have hurt himself, but that wasn’t the ‘easy’ part. The east part was knowing you and your opponent would have a great match and neither had to worry about being made to look bad or being hurt by the opponent.
There was some match where kayfabe one of the opponents' flight was late and he came running into the ring in his street clothes and his luggage to beat a DQ and immediately started wailing on the other guy. The absurdity of this tickled my late father-in-law so much; it's a fond memory of mine. Wish I could remember who was competing.

I still remember how OVER as hell Bret Hart was during the Survivor Series 1989 PPV when it was him in Duggan's 4x4 Team against Macho King's King's Court Team. Bret was actually the last but one team member to be eliminated and was eventually eliminated by the Macho King by his flying elbow, but I remember the crowd went nuts when Macho King was in the ring and Bret got a hot tag to get in the ring and it was fun to watch the two face off.
Everyone always talks about how Randy Savage always wanted to script the matches hold for hold until I heard this. Pretty awesome and Bret could work great on the fly so I'm sure Macho wasn't much concerned on those occasions.
I'm not sure off the top of my head, but this might have even been the match that Hart featured on his DVD back in 2005/2006. It was a fantastic match! All their matches were! When a wrestler says that working with you "is like a day off," you know you have 100% trust.
Wow. I've heard so many stories about Macho Man needing to plan out his wrestling matches. Guess he could call the odd match on the fly with the right opponent.
Pretty surprised he said he just did 20 minutes on the fly with Savage (multiple times) 'cause I've heard frequently that Randy was so meticulous on his matches that he wanted everything written down/gone over in detail prior to hitting the ring.
It’s ridiculous to think that savage scripted everyone of the thousands and thousands of matches he wrestled. Big PPV’s is one thing but I doubt he spent much time working out a 5 minute squash match vs Disco Inferno or someone like that. DDP has never said they scripted any of their matches and they had the fued of the year. In fact you can listen to him tell the story we’re Arn Anderson asks him right before a match with DDP how he wants it to finish and he says he wants to take the diamond cutter. Sound pretty much made up on the fly.
I would've loved to have heard more details about this! If Bret was replacing Jake against Savage it was probably during early 1992, at which point both Savage and Bret were faces. I wonder how the crowd reacted and who they rooted more for. And of course I want to know who won!

@@gregorymcnally7155 I've seen them wrestle twice and neither match was bad, especially considering how much Bret didn't give a fuck in WCW. To be honest though, I wasn't expecting him to say Sting either.
I imagine the ending to that match was Macho going "Okaaay. Put me in the Sharpshooter... they popped for you and they're sick of hearing me talk. Take it home and send em away happy Ohhhhh Yeah!" Cause Macho was a class act. He knew that to do business, you need good dance partners and being selfish and a prima-donna like Hogan and Warrior doesn't do that. Damn that’s cool
Machp man and Bret Hart two of the best to ever do it.
I knew the first one he will say is Mr.Perfect Curt Hennig
My favorite wrestler of all time I live in Maine so never got to see any wrestling back when I was a kid. One bucket list item is to meet Bret but sadly it will never happen. My second is the undertaker. Bret Hart truly the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be!
Remember Bret and Owen helped and protected the Rock when he was bit green.
Rock's from his own wrestling family legacy, like the Harts were. I'm sure that's why.... other than them just being solid dudes.
Not surprised Perfect was the first name.
My all time favorite wrestler. The GOAT of wrestling psychology
People say Bret is bitter, but he’s more than willing to give guys credit when they deserve it.
Curt Henning and Bret Hart.. Style and characters very similar. "Perfect" and "Best". 2 of my favorites of the late 80s/early 90s.
I wonder if he is ever mistaken for Don Johnson, or Vice versa…
It's wild to hear Brett talk about matches with Owen being "easy", when I remember their steel cage match and Bret performing a superplex off the top of the cage, into the ring, and wondering "how did that not hurt?"
Truly a great moment...best (blue) cage match ever!
@@swordfan1330 best cage match ever forget the color tbh there are not alot of great grey cage matches anyway excluding HIAC
Bret
Holy crap, you talking to Bret Hart! Congratulations.
Bret was definitely good enough to be a main eventer. Anytime, anywhere.
Bret and Owen Hart, Macho Man, Curt Hening, Jake Robert's and Kerry, Kevin and David Von Erich off the top of my head maybe the only 2nd generation wrestlers that were good and understood the business.
What people said about Bobby Eaton was like a day off plus one of the nicest guys you will ever meet!
So awesome to hear people say good things about Randy Savage.
Bret Hart VS Bobby Eaton was a dream Match I never got to see. Those two were smooth as butter and I bet would've put together a great match. Then afterwards been in the locker room jonesing to have another match cause neither man got hurt.
I never paid attention 2 Bobby Eaton as a wrestler u have any match suggestions 4 me 2 peep out cuz I'd definitely ✔ it out
@@allengriggs8894 Bobby Eaton vs Ric Flair 2 out of 3 falls match was great. Eaton vs Arn Anderson for the TV title at Superbrawl 1. Eaton & Condrey Midnight Express vs Rock & Roll Express. (Many matches take your pick) Midnight Express vs Horsemen feud was great mic work by Cornett & J.J. Dillion.
Steve Austin (pre-Stone cold) winning his first TV title from Bobby Eaton was an ok match but historic to see the rise of Austin in wrestling.
@@randellgoering1014 bet I'm on it appreciate it
@@allengriggs8894 Cactus Jack aka Mic Foley aka mankind. In his book said "Wrestling Bobby Eaton was considered a "day off" by the boys because Bobby Eatons ring work was so great. It looked painful but you never got hurt." Stone Cold called him one of the best to ever step in the ring.
High praise from two Hall of Famers.
Dream match lol maybe the Midnight Express vs the Hart Foundation yes I’ll give you that. But Eaton vs Hart once Bret broke away from being a tag team wrestler..... no way
Bret Hart they say he's dry. But I love him, a true gentleman.
Curt Hennig
Sting
Macho Man
Shawn Michaels
Bret Hart
Definitely should be in anyone's list of greatest prowrestlers of all time
Is anyone else really interested in hearing that 30min interview Savage did to stall for Hart?
South Bend and Detroit are in the same time zone. the flight from A to B is an hour and he was on a charter plane, so it was even faster. He made it as if he flew cross country. lol
Bret Hart was the safest wrestler ever and the best technical wrestler also the greatest in ring wrestler Bret was my guy 🇨🇦🤼
My all Time Fav Wrestler
Funny that he talked about improvising with Macho Man, who’s infamous for meticulously planning every detail of his matches.
Hardest working wrestler of his time...and a Canadian treasure.love Bret Hart
Everyone always talks about how Randy Savage always wanted to script the matches hold for hold until I heard this. Pretty awesome and Bret could work great on the fly so I'm sure Macho wasn't much concerned on those occasions.
Bret Hart is one the great ones, thanks for sharing.
Bret Hart was a true master of pro wrestling
Goldberg makes excuses for hitting Bret Hart too hard, and then also cries about what William Regal did to him.
Goldberg was trash.
In a shoot. Bret would of beat Goldberg ass
@@ctwwtc8761 Even Gillberg could've taken Bill out. All smoke and mirrors!
Bret Hart stars in 350 Days documentary w 3 dozen legends
Loved watching the wwf from the early 90s they were all great wrestlers.
I wonder if this is the Saturday’s Night Main Event match from ‘87
Detroit to South bend is 3 hour car driv and no time zone change.
Fly all the way to South bend from Detroit lol its like 3 or 4 hours away
As he asked the question, my brain said "I bet Curt Hennig". Sure enough....
When he says Curt Henning BEFORE his brother Owen that’s saying something
Who won that match with savage, & is it on video? Ty.
Pretty surprised he said he just did 20 minutes on the fly with Savage (multiple times) 'cause I've heard frequently that Randy was so meticulous on his matches that he wanted everything written down/gone over in detail prior to hitting the ring.
Be was but he was also a pro when situations like this came up
A preference is not a requirement. :)
Bret vs perfect at summer slam was amazing
I would've loved to have heard more details about this! If Bret was replacing Jake against Savage it was probably during early 1992, at which point both Savage and Bret were faces. I wonder how the crowd reacted and who they rooted more for. And of course I want to know who won!
Absolutely. I hope he's written or told this story in fuller detail somewhere. I have his autobiography but haven't read it yet. Maybe it's in there?
@@calestelken4645 If it is please share the details!
An alternative universe I think they would have cheered for both guys at a WrestleMania 10 championship event
@@attiepollard7847 I would've loved to have seen a Savage vs Bret main event at WMX, since I was there!
It wasn't actually Jake that no-showed, it was Dusty Rhodes. But it was Bret who won as it happens.
It is fascinating that these guys can wing it and not step on each other's moves and routines
Bret vs Mr. Perfect would be the match of the night, any night, any event. They put on 2 masterpieces at Summerslam and KOTR. If any wrestling fan hasn't seen them yet, please do.
Wouldn't expect him to say macho man. Loved macho man's promos. He said the craziest shit.
Bret always be the Best there is the Best there was and the Best there ever Will be 🤙🏼🇦🇷😎
Surprised he said Sting. I never thought they had particularly good matches together.
I think the question was easiest to work with not best matches imo
Plz see Bret vs Sting in Halloween Havoc 1998. Phenomenal match. Smooth moves and transitions. Great storytelling. They let the moves breathe and register properly. Was not a fan of the ending. But other than that top notch match by two top notch wrestlers.
@@beefy1986 I have. Was specifically the one I was thinking of. Found it to be very disappointing personally, considering I love both guys.
@john Johansson I agree.
@@gregorymcnally7155 I've seen them wrestle twice and neither match was bad, especially considering how much Bret didn't give a fuck in WCW. To be honest though, I wasn't expecting him to say Sting either.
Was this story in Bret's book? I can't recall.
Hitman vs. Perfect at Summerslam was truly incredible.
I imagine the ending to that match was Macho going "Okaaay. Put me in the Sharpshooter... they popped for you and they're sick of hearing me talk. Take it home and send em away happy Ohhhhh Yeah!"
Cause Macho was a class act. He knew that to do business, you need good dance partners and being selfish and a prima-donna like Hogan and Warrior doesn't do that. Helping new guys get over with a good storyline in and out of the ring is the way to do it.
Can you just imagine that as the wrestlemania 10 dream match. Bret the Hitman Hart versus macho Man Randy Savage for the WWF championship. Talk about passing the torch
@@attiepollard7847 the true passing of the torch lol
Bret is the most honest guy in wrestling
Has Hart told this story in fuller detail elsewhere? It sounds amazing, but I'm left with so many questions.
Cale, read his autobiography. It answers TONS of questions. And it's AWESOME too.

Detroit and South Bend are in the same time zone.
What he meant was the daylight savings difference. Back then South Bend did not observe the 1 hour change they do now.
He is my Favourite, lots of Love brat for you from India 🇮🇳
Would be insane to watch Randy cut a 30 minute promo. I'd be like "Man, did I take some mushrooms and not realize it? How much time has passed? Is this normal? I can hear my own voice."
did bret hart ever have a match with rick rude ?
Was this Macho Man/Bret match on film anywhere?
Look up Bret vs DiBiase matches on here. It's no surprise those two worked well together given how skilled they both were.
There is no time zone change between South Bend Indiana and Detroit Michigan. They’re both EST
No, they're both Central.
Best there is, Best there was, and Best there ever will be!
Awesome story!! To run in that ring cold. Only a seasoned vet could do that!
Mr Perfect and Macho Man were awesome!
Bret and macho and ultimate we're my favorite wrestlers of all Time
Is the match on video?
I feel brett would have alongside ric flair and Hulk Hogan as one of the biggest leaders/legends for the initial part of tna and would have been great in it
