Best of the Best takes a look at my favourite matches and moments from a paticular wrestler. This debut episode features Bret Hart, and while it's difficult to choose my favourite Bret Hart matches of all time, I think the selections made in this video do show "The Best There Ever Will Be" in the best light possible.
Matches covered in this video include Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam 1991, Bret taking on his little brother Owen at WrestleMania X, the critically acclaimed WrestleMania 13 Submission Match, the Hitman's match against Big Daddy Cool Diesel at Survivor Series 1995 and loads more.

@@Chuck_EL Honestly, I think Bret was better as a heel. Personality wise, he was kind of a standard babyface champion. But as a heel, he could take all his technical skills and hold them above everyone else, which was totally believable, and basically just make a pompous ass of himself.

*16:15* I held the sign that said, "The Hart and Soul of the WWF." When Bret was walking around the ring and hugging/shaking hands, he took my hand and nearly pulled me over the railing. I'd thought, "LOL, is he aware of his strength?" All jokes aside, this was one of my favorite matches because the storytelling between Bret and Stone Cold played out so well. Both matches also show how great those two are, because they complement the storylines that birthed them, and tell two completely different stories. Too many rematches over the years have been nothing but copies of the original, but the Mania match couldn't be more different to the Series match.

I just listed that match on my top five matches of Brets wwe career, and i also believe it is underrated. No one ever mentions it because the match gets overshadowed by Brets match at Summerslam with Davey.
Which is a shame because Bret and Shawn work really well in that Survivors match imo and it has a great finish.

@@xblood-_xdiamond8801the Wm 12 match was def better, but i watched it on ppv and all the months of lead up to it. Also my brother was a shawn fan and I was a hitman fan so it def was more entertaining (though used to watch Survivor series 92 on vhs all the time since we had a taped copy of the live ppv event and also WM 8).
However with all that said even though the ending kind of sucks. Survivor Series 97 was the best match they had. The heat of the crowd, the heat between the two it’s jist terrible that match didn’t play out either with a screw job finish Bret approved of/ or even Bret beating Shawn and them going the full 30-45 mins.

He took pro wrestling seriously and his matches were easily some of the best. I was / am a massive Bret fan so probably very biased, however if more pro wrestlers today looked how Bret built up a match and told a story in the ring matches and moves would mean a lot more, and our favourite wrestlers would get less injuries. So here's my story: growing up in a small town on the south coast of Western Australia in the 90s, we only had 2 TV channels and no wrestling at all on TV during my childhood. The best we had, were VHS tapes from the one video store (but all were at least several years old). This meant that any wrestling I ever saw, happened years prior and I had no sense of what was happening week-by-week in the WWF. When I was 12, I asked the local newsagency to order in WWF Magazine every month, which allowed me to keep a bit more up-to-date, but the magazine would always arrive at least 4-6 weeks late. So I had a limited, and delayed, exposure to wrestling.
But I loved Bret, he was my hero in 1994 (hated Owen!) and as a 12 year-old, I remember the lead-up to SummerSlam 94... and being genuinely terrified that Owen might actually beat Bret for the WWF title (by cheating, probably). I kinda knew kayfabe by then, but didn't fully understand how it all worked... but I really thought there was a legit chance that they'd put the belt on Owen, and so I was SO excited to find out what happened at this pay-per-view. I assumed I'd found out the result from the magazine, but as it happened... for some reason, the local video store received a VHS copy of SummerSlam 94 BEFORE THE MAGAZINE ARRIVED!!... this meant, for the first time ever, I'd be watching a wrestling event without knowing in advance what happens!! It was like watching wrestling, AS IF IT WERE LIVE!!... this was a big deal for me, and the suspense I felt around the cage match at SummerSlam 94 was extreme!!... I remember running and jumping around my parents' living room, screaming at the TV... as they both scaled down the outside of the cage... when Owen got caught up and Bret dropped to the floor, I immediately ran outside and sprinted around the backyard screaming!! I'd never been so excited about wrestling, never have been since and never will again.
My opinion: think of any wrestler that Bret ever worked with, and Bret probably had that guy's best ever match. To me, that says it all.
    Thanks for the memories, Hitman.

This is really good Bret was just so good and a true legend. I wish more people in the game had his detail and story telling but he is a one in a generation talent. This video shows that definately! I would've added a couple but this is very good 👍 😊 I missed you doing videos like this reminds me of where this channel started. And I love RTW too but I know how much time that consumes so it's nice when we get stuff like this! thank you! WBs does it again

Bret mastered the art of wrestling and in ring psychology. He made it look real without injuring his opponent. He had so many classic matches, but my favourite match of his will always be the match he had with his brother Owen at WrestleMania 10. Together they put on a wrestling clinic. My favourite WWF match.

As a lifelong Bret Hart fan watching him evolve as a pro wrestler was amazing. He has so many quality matches it would be tough to rate them all. I do know my favorite match of his and that was the SummerSlam ic title match against Perfect wonderful athletic story it was. Bret was so awesome that night and I remember his parents were there in the crowd. It was a big moment for him and an unforgettable night. I mean come on he kicked out of the Perfect Plex. I didn't know that was possible

His match against Shawn at WrestleMania 12 is harshly overlooked from a work-rate stand point. It should definitely be considered when your looking at Bret's best matches. Bret and Shawn put on clinic that night and worked together tremendously well. The timing of the match and how it was laid out in stages told a really good story.

The PPV I always recommend to people for Bret is King of the Ring 1993, as he has three matches that night, with three different opponents in Razor, Mr Perfect and Bam Bam Bigelow.
All of whom wrestled different styles, had different chemistry with Bret and were different sizes. Yet Bret wrestled three great matches with the Perfect one being the best and for me tied with their Summerslam 91 one.
Bret also won all three matches with different finishes, with no use of the sharpshooter to make any of his opponents tap out, all pins with Bret either taking advantage of his opponent's moment of weakness, countering their move or playing to his advantage.
Bret had better matches in other PPV's as this video and others not shown are fondly remembered for. But King of the Ring 1993 was truly for me the quintessential roundhouse performance from Bret and just how good he was not just at wrestling, getting the best out of anyone he worked with. But also in how he was truly the excellence of execution.

Bret vs. Shawn in the first WWE ladder match in '92 is a great match and by far my favourite match they had together. I'm not a fan of modern multi-man spot fest ladder matches, so the match is refreshing because it's so pared down. They get so much out of doing so little, at least compared to the excess of modern ladder matches.

When the Hart Foundation went up against Demolition in the very early days of their encounters. Brett gave a wrestling schooling to Axe and Smash one right after the other. I was quite surprised that this was even being allowed so to speak as I had yet see anyone else man handle them before. It was pure wrestling excellence and this I clearly remember being the pivotal moment of realization for me of Brett’s profound greatness.
