Huge Tesla Discounts - But Is Now The Time To Buy? Watch This Before You Decide!!

- Tesla just reduced the price of the Tesla Model X significantly, and it has a lot of people asking themselves if they should pull the trigger. This most recent price reduction means that the Model X now qualifies for the EV Tax Credit of up to $7,500.
Along side the reduction in the Model X is an equal reduction in price on the Model S. Both the Model X and Model S saw a price reduction just a few days ago of $18,500 in the base price. This combined with the Tax Credit the Model X now qualifies for, has increased demand significantly.
On the other end of the Tesla lineup, we have the Model Y and Model 3. Although we haven't seen a price change on either in a couple months now, what we have seen is some pretty significant discounts on inventory cars across the country. In fact, right now in my area, there are 459 cars available in inventory, of which over 72% of them are discounted.
For the Model Y and Model 3, inventory discounts are racking up north of $5,000. In addition to this $5k discount, you can of course get another $500 off when you use someones referral code. The same is true for the Model S and Model X, but the additional discount is $1k instead of $500.
With these pretty amazing prices that are available, it begs the question, is now a good time to buy? Well, there are a lot of factors to consider, and I will share these with you in todays video.
The first thing you may want to consider is tax credits. Specifically the fact that the EV tax credits are going to be realized at time of filing your 2023 taxes, sometime around April of 2024. Starting in January of 2024, that EV tax credit becomes a Point of Sale tax credit and comes off the price of the car. On top of that, Tesla is already communicating that starting in 2024, they expect to see a reduction in the EV tax credit qualification on some models.
Next, and probably the most obvious for Model 3 buyers, is the recent launch of the Refresh Model 3 (AKA Project Highland). The refresh was just released in Europe and is expected to start making its way to customer hands by October 2023. Although this refresh looks great, it will not be coming to North America until some time in 2024. Following this same logic, we know that the refresh Model Y (Project Juniper) will be coming some time after the release of the new Model 3.
Now when I look at the inventory in my area, I see over 72% of cars are discounted. The discounts range from $0-5,500, but there are no existing inventory Model X's that are $79,990, meaning none that qualify for the EV tax credit. There is also only 1 Model S in inventory in my area with a discount, and it is actually a Demo model Plaid.
Ultimately, with the instability in Tesla pricing, combined with their rapid development and improvements, it is hard to pick the perfect time to pull the trigger. When you think you are ready to buy your Tesla, at some point you will need to jump in and take delivery or you will never buy a Tesla.

I have owned a 21 MYLR for 2+ years and loved it but these deals are simply too good to pass up. Just ordered a brand new inventory MYP that was discounted $4,400, plus another $500 referral discount, and the $7,500 tax credit means this car is around $48k all in with taxes, delivery fee. etc...That's an insane deal especially considering these were selling in the 70's 12-18 months ago!

In Jersey they have a $1500-$4000 incentive on top of the federal that is applied to the purchase price. Residents are also tax exempt on the purchase of a full EV vehicle, which makes a model 3 $14000 cheaper, not to mention the $1000 incentive towards a charging station in your residence.
Pretty incredible incentives
Managed to nab one of the Model Y Performances in Orlando. $51k before the tax credit isn't bad! $4400 off plus the referral bonus. I've been looking for several months and thought it was a worthy discount! Keep the content coming man!
Same here! Got one in the Phily area, same discount!
Congrats! Great deal. Basically you got performance for LR price

FSD transfer and all the changes between 2020 and 2023 pushed me over a couple weeks ago for a new MY. I had it 36 hours after it was built. I did use a friends promo code and got $500 off, but no inventory discount. Only 4 miles on the car, so I'm good...

Lower the s and x even more? It looks like the drop 18k last week and today they increase 750 bucks for the yoke

Great video. My state has a tax rebate for EVs below 50k MSRP, and discounts on inventory vehicles do not qualify. MYLR's MSRP is $50,490. Bummer that $490 is the difference between getting a $3k discount or not haha.

4:01 what’s really weird is that the long range model three which I thought had an LFP battery pack as well when you open up the battery in the settings on the screen it has the word trip at the end, which generally means that it’s not LFP. Because that means you only want to occasionally charge to 100%, so I think it is not.
Turns out its actually the China made LG Lithium Ion M50F1A cells
Considering a model y. What are the average prices for each trim?
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Thank you for answering this. So much confusion about this even within the people that know.
Should I purchase a Model Y Performance now but, plan to trade it in when the Model Y Juniper comes out or will that be a waste of money and just wait if it comes out in less than a year specially when I might come in under at the time of purchasing the Highland?
you will lose money of course, but do what you can afford.
Waiting for M3 LR Highland. I have a 22’ M3 LR

waiting for the model y refresh, very tempted to get the new model 3 whenever that drops but I can’t go back to a sedan
its so hard to go to a Model 3 from any SUV. If you only drive lower riding cars, then its fine but it sits so low
Also waiting for it, too many good changes to miss out on really if you can afford to wait. Not to mention the increased competition next year could even drive prices lower.
The Y wont be refreshed for at least a year.

Such a tough decision. Want to take advantage of the tax credit this year, but really want the Highland. The extra discounts are nice, but I’d rather go with the refresh model. I just ordered the standard range awd Y. $4k off sticker. I would get the long range y but only the standard range would qualify for the Maryland $3k tax credit as it has to be under $50k sticker price. Any discounts do not apply.

We bought a model 3 std range last Oct, before all the price cuts, bummer we missed out on them but we love the car. We have been looking at model X forever, now that the price on plaid is like 90k, we are looking at it, we don’t qualify for any tax credits, having said that, do you think it’s good time to buy or is Tesla planning to release a better version of it soon? I know it’s hard to predict but what’s your take on it knowing you follow the company closely? Thanks so much 😊
ive never hated this question more than I do now hahaha. It's so hard to know when the right time to buy is with prices so volatile like this. I thought we were at the bottom in prices 20k ago...that all said, just like the stock market, you can't ever time it perfect, but at some point you just have to take the plunge
7:56 Rebate in NJ is $1,500 - $4,000 (for 2024 year started in July). (not $2,000 which is a 2023 figure ended in April)
thanks for clarification, the chart was pretty recent but that seems to be outdated now.
Wait, you said new model 3 refresh RWD if it comes to America next year will have less tax credit but I thought it’s same battery as old model
Now?
Can you clarify?
Tesla has stated clearly that the Model 3 will lose at least half the credit, if not all. The battery is the same, but I believe the loop hole they used for this year is that the "average" of all their batteries for the Model 3 are fully compliant and therefore, all 3's are compliant. That ends next year as the LR Model 3 gets its new batteries from China.
Im looking at a Model 3 2020 Performance? From any oweners out there, is that a good buy?
Hell yea it is! Fastest 0-60 in that price range. Fantastic car
Last week’s MX price cut got me to upgrade from our MY w/ FSD. HOWEVER, my Telsa rep, (Juan), confirmed, no FSD transfer! THEY WONT BE DELIVERY ANY MXs ORDERED NOW BEFORE OCTOBER!!! it’s worth $12K, and Tesla doesn’t want to tell you! I got the runaround to several people/departments. Even the website said I could maybe get it in September. This just seems unethical and deceitful, no? The price cuts have been in effect less that a week. I love Tesla, but this is just wrong, they should honor the date the order is placed NOT THE DELIVERY DATE DETERMINED BY TESLA FOR $12K
Yea, they "sold out" of the entire quarters production like a couple days after this. Insane.
Everyone seems to be getting better discounts i just ordered mine for 45k model y rwd with fed tax credit appx 37500

Where are you seeing the M Y discounts? When I go to the Tesla website, I’m seeing the $47,000 for the all-wheel-drive standard range but you’re saying it’s 43,000. Thanks for a great videos.
The inventory discounts vary by location and day for existing inventory only. Next would be if you qualify for the tax credit, then there is another $7,500 there too.

Ordered an inventory MY SR in multicoat red ($49,740) when I saw it discounted to $45,730 + $500 loyalty code, so got it for $45,230. Picking it up this weekend. Tesla pricing is hard to predict, but these prices are a good deal, especially with the added federal tax incentive. I will be irritated if Tesla offers these discounts PLUS 0% financing in the near future, since interest rates are awful right now. But it is difficult to predict what Tesla will do, so I just went ahead and jumped on this one!

Same thing, it's just that there are cars already built waiting to be matched to an order.
As I've remarked before, Superchargers in California are 58cents/kWh. It's cheaper to run a Toyota hybrid (much nicer cars, too).
I live in US, I need a car, so I purchased model 3. I think Tesla will try to make highland qualify for the full tax credit. Otherwise, people will purchase Model Y instead if Model Y qualifies full tax credit...
If Highland going to release Q1 2024 in US, best time to buy Model 3 2023 is after Thanksgiving.

No doubt it will qualify at least for the RWD and LR AWD
3:57 The long range Model 3 does NOT have an LFP battery pack. I took delivery of the new LR M3 on June 30th this year and can confirm that the car does NOT list LFP in the "Additional Vehicle Information" screen (which, according to the manual, will specify LFP if the battery is LFP) and the car also uses the terms "Daily" and "Trip" when referring to charge limits rather than using the terms "80%" and "100%", which are the terms they use on their LFP models. Definitely puzzling, as the range on the car was reduced from what it was last year, but I can confirm the LR M3 (as of September 2023) does NOT use the LFP battery pack.
That’s interesting. I wonder if there is a definite way to confirm. Especially since the range drop appears like it would be. Do you know what your battery capacity is?
@@howifixedit.9076 From the research I had done, it seems the only way to confirm LFP is to look in the "Additional Vehicle Information" screen in the software tab. That is directly from Tesla.
I don't think there is a direct way to check the battery capacity per se, but my energy chart has 239 Wh/mi listed for the past 30 miles I've driven and estimates that I have 260 miles of range left while my battery is at 80%. Some quick math with those numbers indicates that the battery capacity would be somewhere around 77 kWh.
Correct, it appears that they have the LG Lithium Ion M50F1A cells
Is the LFP battery pack better?
@@thehousehunter123 It's not definitively better or worse, but it is different. LFP batteries are lower energy density than NMC batteries (which are used on other Teslas), but LFP cells can also be charged to 100% without accelerating the battery's degradation over time. With an NMC battery, you want to avoid charging the battery to 100% unless you really need to, because leaving NMC batteries at 100% accelerates the battery's degradation. However, that's not the case with LFP. That's the main reason people have been interested in Tesla's more-recent usage of LFP batteries in some of their models.
Love the price drop but would rather get choice of interior over the exterior color to keep it under that tax credit.

@@doomsday9973awesome
it will do that starting in January
Wait, so you qualify for the $7500 tax credit if you and your spouse's income doesn't go over $300k a year? I really like the Model Y performance.
Correct. if your joint income doesn't exceed 300k and your liability Is at least 7500 (which any Model X or Y buyer will have no issue with) you are good to go
@@kunalchang980 Good to know. Thanks
@@kunalchang980 uhhh do you know what head of household is? That means you are single or unmarried and have kids. If you are MARRIED filing jointly it’s 300k not 225.
@@JuniorJr_23You know you can get a discounted model ordered directly from tesla with less than 4k down payment and a total no more than 17 grand with a ref code.
Oh my bad. You’re right. Removed my comment as I may mislead people.
It's a tax break. Not a refund.
I'm looking forward to 2024 so that the tax credit can be applied at the time of purchase without waiting
I stated pretty clearly here and everywhere else it's a "Non-refundable tax credit" which is exactly what it is per the IRS.

Do you think it's a good time to buy a Model X? Or wait for any changes?
IF there is a re-design it's at least 2 years away probably more. 79k before credit is a crazy price, if you can swing it and want one I'd say do it now.
I just jumped on an X LR 5-seater as a 5+ year Model 3 owner! So many recent X upgrades, nothing major coming. They now all have HW4, Matrix Headlights, tilt screen, improved adaptive air suspension, no stalks, round wheel standard, ANY color currently no cost, etc. Took a test drive and was blown away… 3/Y don’t compare in any way IMO.
@@NJturtlePower Congrats! I debate between S and X but I am very tempted to jump on the basic X with the tax credit deal. Any concerns on the doors and other quality issues with the more recent X production?
@@ichan3210 I didn’t care for the S’s rear visibility and driver seating position being 6’ 2” tall. X is prone to some issues in the past like rear inner tire wear, drivetrain shutter issues and sometimes falcon door problems but seems to be hit or miss. For the tire wear and shutter there are proven solutions with suspension parts (lowering links / camber arms) from N2ITIVE. I’m looking into those with a buddy with a shop that does the installs all the time. I’ll just cross my fingers with the doors … delivery estimate now Oct.-Nov. alert my 9/4 order.
Such a good time to buy a Model X, of course that could all change at a moments notice.
The cheapest new M3 RWD near me is $36,620. I think Tesla will slowly drop the price a bit until the facelift officially release
agree
Nah,its time for a chevy bolt!
lol
you have Colorado listed 2k tax rebate, its actually 5k
Nice, means it's even higher than when that chart was assembled in like May of this year.
yes sir, it updated July 1st@@BeardedTeslaGuy
This discount is old new. Tesla has been doing this for months
yes, but now, the Model Y is getting these 5k discounts, and its across a lot of the inventory. Huge discounts on Y's we haven't seen in the past.

Never buy teslas when they do these price cuts or incentives.
*wow most of the comments are blind, you guys really don't know why tesla dropped prices? 😅 Cadillac Lyriq , way way way better deal and drives like a regular car. It's not a good choice to choose something else.*
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaha
Been a while since I laughed this hard, good one.
