Memories came flooding back from my childhood. My Grampy was a woodworker and I spent many hours down in the basement 'helping' him. I got to clean up alot and the best time was when I got to apply the 'shine juice'. I firmly believe that my appreciation and love of most 'hand-made' items (especially wood) comes from spending all those years with him. Thanks!
"That's better." The carving did take it to the next level. Well done. Fall season is a wonderful time. Things just changing too fast. You did capture a part of fall nicely. Interesting wristband. Semper Fi
I like the way you work , look so easy , sequences so smooth , the box after sanding really shiny , beautifull doesn't need apply any oil , and I like that nature look , thk's Mr Humphrey .
What really fascinates me...each piece of wood has its own color, weight, shading, knots, slubs, age, and 'spirit'. Watching it come to life under your hands is such a delight!!! I find it better than any calming meditation. Your skilled hands, and comforting, wise voice, telling viewers what you are doing, and why..well, speaking for myself, it is such a marvelous tonic, for the hassles in our hectic world..And hey, RH...I should know - we live in downtown NYC!!!
R Humphrey you are about to be a TH-cam sensation,.... I see at least 10 million subs coming your way very soon... I like and comment on all your videos.... I subbed a while back... I like the fact your relationship with your viewers matters to you. cheers!
I like the way you think! lol, that would be a dream come true! You're right though, I appreciate my viewers so much! The time out of all of your days, if even just a few minutes watching and commenting, is so valuable! I want to take the time to respond as much as possible just out of respect and gratitude. I'm starting to fall a bit behind lately as my channel grows, but I'll continue to put forth the effort to reply as much as I can. cheers!
@@RHumphrey I'd suggest putting a lengthy greeting in the description of each new video. It gets people's attention and we like seeing and reading a welcoming!! Just an idea. Have fun and Ill be in the background watching your channel grow. Personally, I'd love to see you turn a small circular fan complete with an off/on switch and L.E.D. lights made from dark walnut and light blue epoxy resin... I think that would be incredible. !!
You have turned one of my all time favorites to do, a box, and what a box it is!!!!! 2 years ago I thought my turning days were done when I had no breath left to climb the stairs to my basement place of fun (nonsmoker). Then had a large mass removed from my throat (benign!!) I so look forward to every piece of firewood I turn now , successful or not, I am so grateful. I am making bracelets for all my friends at work that helped me and my doctors. I am just a rank amateur, but it is so much fun. Thank you for all your inspiring videos.
Hi Rod, that is a beautiful piece you have there, and I really love the hand carving finish at the end it really gave it that something special feeling about it. I really enjoy watching your videos and love the fact you show and support other people’s work your a top bloke. Till the next one keep on turning. 📐💜📐
Very nice nice turning and amazing carving. That was a great choice to do the carving it really added to the overall look. Autumn colors are amazing . We recently drove through Colorado and saw the brightest yellow colors in the trees. Even managed to get some photos of them reflecting on a small lake. I was looking forward to getting home and checking in on my favorite TH-cam channels. Great job!
Great turning as always Rod. The carving added that special feature. It's great that you feature photos of other wood turners. It affords so much encouragement to beginners and the more experienced. I get the impression that more people are taking up the art of woodturning which is so encouraging. SF.
WOW... next level is right. I have been taking walks and connecting acorns for my backyard squirrels, since I have no oak trees in my yard. They stash them quickly once provided. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Another great show of going all the way to get the project completed right. I love the work on the lid. Thanks again for sharing, and thanks for showing my work.
i love autumn, what’s your most favourite season? i really can’t stand the heat, i think i was make to live on irish cliff tops. love this design, it’s so creative! don’t see many acorns in oz, it’s mostly a Plane trees which i didn’t know was a type of tree, wish they’d planted oak and maple when they planned the city.
now thats beautiful brother . very nicely done i like the hand carving you did at the end . gives it more of a personal touch and a real look . great job brother
Well done, very nice piece. The carving in the top does add a lot to the piece. The video thumbnail shows the purpleheart after it had been exposed to UV. Perhaps you could add a picture with the colour change at the end of the video. You could have made the top so the tenon was used like a bung to fit inside the box. This method is also more forgiving if the top shrinks. Easy to add a groove in the bung for an o-ring. Dave.
I took the cover pic at the same time as the others at the end of the video. When I darkened the area around the bowl, the pale purple was easier to see, but it is in the others too. It still looks the same over a week later. Not a spectacular purple, but I still like it 🙂 If it ever does darken up, I'll show it again in another video. Thanks! PS I wanted the cap to fit on the nut like it does in nature, but not a bad thought for other applications, thanks again!
My compliments! A very good job and a great idea for me. Ciao form Stefano form italy.
Excellent project, you have just given me my next challenge.
A true artisan lets the piece speak to him/her, and then finds the final process. Nice work.

Good call on adding the carving to the top. It really does dress it up.
Thank you 🙂
Pretty and yes it needed the carving on top.!
