I am St.Louis born and
raised about a mile from
Chuck Berry's clubs on
St.Charles Rock Dr. Then
his Hotel on Lindbergh
by the airport.
Pappa was a genius. He
deserved a motion
picture .
wow, so soulful and ragtime-y also. Happy 107th birthday, Papa John, 5/28/1917, and thanks for the great music!
I listened to him 50 years ago. He died in 1994 in his 70s and played for Hot Tuna & Jefferson Starship. I just love to listen to his blues.
Wow, what a treat! Used to see him at a club in Willimantic, Connecticut! SHABOO! Gone, but not forgotten! This brings back some bodacious memories! I'm dancing in my kitchen, and 21 again...at 66!
Good for you.
Same here!! Saw him at the Agora Ballroom in Tampa, a club with about 120 seats in the front and pool tables in the back, around 1979. Sat 8' away from the stage.
I first learned about Papa from Jefferson Starship, the way he made the violin sing is like no other. He is now playing for everyone in heaven, RIP Pappa.
Papa John is an American treasure. Nobody ever sounded like him .
Sugar cane Don Harris was very close.

Still my favorite... from 1973

This is some damned good music!!
He played a lot of sessions with Jefferson Airplane/Starship. Magic
That's where I first heard him as a kid.
And Hot Tuna
"Git Fiddler"
Papa John knew how to make music sound good

This!
it was. it is. it will be
Wow. This is spectacular. How can I find more like this?
Try some Gatemouth Brown, Howard Armstrong, or Claude Williams. They are all the real deal on fiddle, maybe the last generation of old- time blues fiddlers.
I thought he started off with ‘Summertime’ 🌹
When you compare Papa John's playing to others....all others are not Papa John
Good

A nice upbeat 1 /4 /5 Blues
Thanks for posting. Do you have the video Jorma Kaukenen and Papa John playing "that'll never happen no more"? It seems to have vanished from the internet.
No, I don't. It would be great to find it somewhere and put it back online.
👍🎻🙉
GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to see him play his fiddle. Are their any recordings that were live?
Watch Hot Tuna Water song

No plagiarism from Papa John....I'm sure..but this melody reminds you Gershwin's ... Summertime ... from ... Porgy and Bess ....
