    No ink lemonade? It has all three of the biggest issues with modern SpongeBob in one episode: Gross-out humor, Patrick being a jerk, and Squidward getting tortured.

    • @inumizuno
      @inumizuno ปีที่แล้ว +151

      I think it's because Ink Lemonade has made an appearance in his worst spongebob videos numerous times, and he wanted to bring variety.
      But as the video claims, these episodes are rated by other people. So for some reason... Ink Lemonade isn't even in them, not even the Scumbob site.

    I do like the twist at the end of "I'm with Stupid". Patrick being stupid enough to forget what his parents look like is believable, but the fake parents forgetting that they don't have a son and they shouldn't know who Patrick is is so absurd it's hilarious.

      @japansfloridaman2466 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Yeah I had no problem with it because Patrick had the motive to be a jerk to impress his (fake) parents, not just being a jerk for the hell of it. Same with Dumped, because Patrick enjoyed Gary a bunch (and was the butt of the joke at the end).

      @@japansfloridaman2466 I still didn't like how Spongebob got treated by Patrick in I'm With Stupid - understandable but I always felt off by it. He was so into it that he did become a bit of a jerk since he figured Gary liked him more than Spongebob, but hey, the end joke worked well there!

    As awful as A Pal For Gary is, One Coarse Meal actually had Plankton try to commit suicide by getting run over. Yes, that is without exaggeration what happens. A kid's show has an episode where, after two weeks of psychological torture, a character legitimately tries to commit suicide as a plot point. And after hearing that Plankton is laying in the road to try and get run over, Krabs just laughs at that. That goes beyond mean-spirited into downright malicious evil, and he doesn't face any real consequences for it

    I am still really disappointed that you didn’t include Squid Baby. While episodes like Choir Boys or One Coarse Meal makes me sad or angry, Squid Baby pretty much activates my fight-or-flight response. Squid Baby is pretty much just the writers’ barely disguised fetish. Also, Jem Reviews described it best. “It feels like I’m watching something I shouldn’t be watching.”

    • @c00lac0la

      i'm shocked there was no mention of 'squid baby' at all in the dishonorable mentions, that shit made me so uncomfortable as a kid and to this day it makes my stomach churn from just any mention of it. it makes me wonder if someone in the studio had a barely disguised fetish when writing the episode. that episode and 'License to Milkshake' are by far my least favorite episodes imo, just beyond unwatchable and just plain wrong, eugh..

      You pretty much stated the reason I don't ever talk about Squid Baby 🙂 I don't like to talk about the episode because I have no wish to fetish-shame or to encourage disgust in people's personal fetishes. And due to the confrontational nature of the episode, that's exactly what that episode inspires. As you said, my friend Jem already reviewed it very well so I tend to just give the episode some privacy 😄 Hope that makes sense.

    • @thegrandxbunny2073
      @thegrandxbunny2073 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Not to mention how there’s a somewhat offensive tinge to it when you remember that the plot started with a head injury. At least Whobob Whatpants’ plot starting with the injury made sense because it was, you know, amnesia. Meanwhile, Squid Baby is… well… Squid Baby. But I guess I can kinda understand Strider’s reasoning behind not including it. At the same time though, I can’t help but feel like there’s a sense of disrespect mixed into the stew of that rancid episode.

    One episode I always hated was "The sponge who could fly". In this episode spongebob just gets bullied by the entire town, and when he tried to stand up for himself, he got chased of a cliff. A lot of people have declared SpongeBob season 6 and 7 as the “gross out era” of SpongeBob, so episodes like “SpongeBob’s Bad Habit” are quite disappointing since it shows me that the staff keeps falling back into bad habits themselves.
    What really gets me about the episode “Pets or Pests?” is that worms are consistently portrayed as dogs throughout the series, and yet Larry the lobster considers eating them anyway, which is mildly disturbing.
    And in “Face Freeze,” SpongeBob and Patrick willingly go around scaring people with their gross faces, which feels very out of character. When they bother people, even in bad episodes like “Good Neighbors,” it’s usually due to their own ignorance.

    I like psychological horror but what makes Spong Bong concerning when it delves into that territory is that those doing the tormenting tend to not get punished at least in later seasons. If I were in Gary's position in A Pal For Gary, I'd think something was up with Spongebob. Reminds me of a family where the new kid beats someone up and the parent gaslights the victim. Looking at you too, Bendy and Mr. Harrimen! And of course, there's One Coarse Meal where Krabbs gets minor inconvenience compared to being stalked for half a month like Plankton was.

    I’m not sure what you’ll think of this, but I have a SpongeBob OC called Lorelei C. Monstra, who is, of course, a humanoid sea monster (who comes under the ‘Cute Monster Girl’ TV Trope).
    SpongeBob and Lorelei first meet at Goo Lagoon, where Lorelei suddenly emerges from the sea just as SpongeBob is about to start swimming in it. SpongeBob is a little startled at first, but realises that Lorelei is friendly.
    The two introduce themselves to each other, and SpongeBob takes Lorelei out to see Bikini Bottom. However, Lorelei’s sea monster instincts often get the better of her, and is soon shunned by the citizens of Bikini Bottom. Upset, Lorelei flees back to Goo Lagoon, where she sits on the sand, making water sculptures with her hands. Upon being asked, Lorelei reveals that sea monsters can create and control water, which gives SpongeBob an idea.
    He takes Lorelei back to Bikini Bottom, and advertises a water show. Though nervous, Lorelei amazes the citizens of Bikini Bottom with her water-controlling abilities, and she is welcomed back into Bikini Bottom.
    However, Lorelei soon hears the ‘Call of the Sea Monsters’ from her mother, and tells SpongeBob she has to go back to the sea monster kingdom. SpongeBob and the other Bikini Bottom citizens say their goodbyes to Lorelei, and she gracefully jumps into the ocean and swims down to the sea monster kingdom. The episode ends with SpongeBob hoping he and Lorelei will meet again.
    Side note: Lorelei is voiced by Mila Kunis.

In one scene, he builds a house of horrors that features Squidward's worst nightmare: working at the Krusty Krab until he's a senior citizen; that alone shows that Patrick is intelligent enough to know what he's doing, and doesn't care that it's wrong. Spongebob ain't no better either, and neither get any comeuppance in the end.

      And that's pretty much where it all goes down hill because the rest of the episode just devolves into the town's people bullying and humiliating Squidward to the very end because they didn't think he was as good as the puppet (Even though SpongeBob's puppet was literally just copying Squidward).
      The whole premise is just stupid and Squidward endures the Karma Houdini trope all because he didn't indulge SpongeBob's annoying antics which seems to be a common theme for many bad episodes that focus on him.

    As someone who has a nail biting addiction (since I was very little) I think the nail biting episode describes it perfectly, there's been time where I've looked at other people nails and think "I really wanna bite them" ofc I never would cuz that's creepy and wierd, but to me it does portray those intrusive/impulsive thoughts about nail biting pretty well in my opinion

    when the characters are uncharacteristically "mean" to SpongeBob more than a few times maybe it is part of their character, I always thought (as a kid at least) when that happened everyone or the character in question was having a particularly bad day and sponge just took it too much to heart. Also it is kind of part of Patrick's character to be mean to SpongeBob occasionally because it happens quite a few times over the course of the seasons. Idk maybe I'm thinking too hard about it lmao :)

      I actually don’t think the characters are uncharacteristic. SpongeBob accidentally makes mistakes, and it is reasonable for the characters to be angry with him, and SpongeBob thought that his friends would forever hate him, which is untrue

    This is a prime example of what I call, “meme pandering.”
    😜😵‍💫😵😑😳🥴
    Meme Pandering usually involves a movie or show going out of its way to have their characters say something random or make weird faces, in the hopes that it will be just random enough to stick out in someone’s mind enough to be turned into a meme, thus making the movie/show a household name.

    I really liked the ending In Smooth Jazz because it’s one of times where SpongeBob actually follows consistency. We all know Squidward’s favourite instrument is the clarinet and his favourite celebrity is Kelpy G but SpongeBob’s favourite instrument is the ukulele since he’s been playing it in multiple episodes e.g. The Fun Song, The Camp Fire Song and although Kelpy rejects Squidward, he admires SpongeBob natural talent in playing the ukulele so the ending worked out well bringing two musicians together.

    Ironically Face Freeze was paired with the episode I think is among the most underrated of the series. Glove World RIP is a pretty good episode. Patrick is a still a bit of a nuisance but his shenanigans thankfully take a bit of a sideline, and it focuses more on Spongey and Patrick trying their damnedest to fix Glove World.
    I just feel like having it come after a really bad one did it dirty.

    The bad _Spongebob SquarePants_ episodes during the "post-movie era" seasons made me glad about Stephen Hillenburg's comeback in Season 9, otherwise the series could've gone worse and continued to "jump the shark" if it wasn't for him.
    The series maybe did come along the way and hasn't aged a day, but looking back to Season 6 - 8, that era was weird and disturbing that it didn't fit the show's happy-go-lucky, tropical atmosphere.

Don't get me wrong, I like exaggerated and expressive cartoons, but the new seasons are just... way too much. It feels so over the top and low-key disturbing. I wish I could enjoy all these episodes that people keep praising, but I just physically cannot watch anything past season 9

    I always hated "All That Glitters" The episode where SpongeBob breaks his spatula, and is forced to replace it. Spongebob blows all his money on this fancy French taking spatula that refusing to touch the krabby patties. At the end of the episode I think his old spatula gets fixed and was flipping patties by itself. That kind of begs the question why does it need SpongeBob in the first place? I only have seen the whole episode once and it was a while ago so I don't remember everything that happened so I am sorry if my description is off.

    A potential video idea for SpongeBob: "Top 10 best "CLASSIC" SpongeBob characters" or "Top 10 most tragically fallen SpongeBob characters." This would specifically focus on how characters were written in seasons 1-3. I'd genuinely like to see how you would rank these characters back during the golden age.
