Source FilmMaker. Otherwise known as Trying To Remember All The Fucking Hotkeys: The Game: The Movie: The Game loosely based on the Movie: The Novel: The Erotic Novel: The Game.
It's impressive how such a complex film-making program was made by a few people at Valve making use of Source. This is something I would expect from a large company purely dedicated to these types of software (Adobe, Autodesk, etc.). Kudos to you guys, Valve is awesome!
If your confused like I was at 3:00 as to how he's creating the soft fall-off, what you do is hold on shift and scroll with the mouse wheel, it's simple, it was just unclear in that bit. So far these tutorials have been pretty good, but this bit was confusing. I get it now though, hopefully that helps someone.
Tutorials 1 through 4 were pretty well done. They were presented at a pace suitable for their complexity. This tutorial, on the other hand, features a similar running time to cover a much more complex subject. As a result, it's rushed and simply not taught very well.
My life sucks enough to never give this up, let it down, it's not even gonna run around, and hurt you. It's never gonna make you cry, say goodbye, tell a lie, and hurt you.
OH MAN I get this now! It's actually pretty brilliant. If you're familiar with Keyframes, think of the start and end of a time selection as two keyframes, and all of time selected is just like editing a value universally rather than over a span of time.
+Electrical Magic (CHUCKLES) Same here. I got started on my first video last TUES, but it came out no good, I still don't get it for its complicated. But I'm not giving up. For I want to be like some awesome ytp members who uses sfm and make new clips almost every week or months.
I didn't exactly understand the first time since I was expecting this to be more like nearly any software's way of controlling animations with keyframes, but after messing around with it for a few minutes I understood how to use that progressive green selection thing.
I'm watching this, then thinking about what I want to make first, then realizing I haven't been paying attention and start the process over again. I'm never gonna finish this video.
i used to work with some editing program.Final cut pro,AE and motion.I love this Program valve has released. Its quite easy when u have some backround.Keep doing this awesome work valve.Appreciate your work. :)
I understood the complexity of this video to the others who doesn't have prior experience. I probably understand this good becauss of my experience in 2D animation, and yes, this seems like it's rushed. Just... Take your time fellas, I learned myself 2D principles for years.
Im not much of a gamer, but im slowly getting my head around this program, but just because you think it takes little effort to figure out doesn't mean everyone can, the world does nor revolve around you.
Guys if you're confused about making the soft time selection falloff, hover your mouse over the beginning or end of the orange zoom in field of view, hold shift and scroll up on your mouse wheel. This is what worked for me, if it doesn't work for you then idk what else to try
No, his argument is very valid. He's saying that just because you think it takes little effort doesn't mean that's a fact and that everyone else can use it just as easily. It's as valid as any other argument.
I had not the slightest clue on how to use SFM except for loading maps and putting in models that I didn't know how to pose. I hope there will be the Saxxy Awards again this year!
you can always use the motion editor, select the frame you don't like and use the ramp filter to even it out. i think that may solve the problem. Or i just have no idea.
These are easier to understand if you have sfm open and follow the steps whilst watching the video, writing down some key points such as what certain buttons do really does help as well as you don't have to refer back to the videos if you forget something.
I agree, these tutorials are easy to understand and EXTREMELY helpful in getting familiar with the tools this software has. I just think people were upset with the way you had to say it. There's no need to be disrespectful, dude. Some people learn at a slower pace, but they still learn. Some people get scared at the daunting tasks and the time it'll take to learn to master them with something like this, and just give up all together. Take it easy, you just started off hostile n people went D:
I forgot how to disable audio, and on some wiki page I accidentally stumbled upon a super easy way to fix the annoying reverb with in-game sounds... if anyone is experiencing a problem with audio reverb, go to Element Viewer>activeClip>trackGroups>Sound and do a slow double click on the word "Sound." This should prompt a rename text box, just put a # in front of "Sound" ("#Sound")! Your in-game sounds should be much less choppy. Hope this helped, it sure helped me!
No my argument is perfectly valid, you make yourself out to be better then everyone else because apparently you find the program and the tutorial easy to follow, some people don't and yet you insinuate that they are intellectually impaired, so i say just because you find something easy doesn't mean everyone does, there for i present the expression the world does not revolve around you, the meaning is in context to what you said there for its valid.
@@Bread310 th-cam.com/video/d7g9X5KiPoo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bcBApsfZUTJOTonM This guy made a really good tutorial. You should watch both his tutorial and the official tutorial by valve which is 06.
***** no it isnt, in sfm you can make a hundred times smoother animations. well i think its better than taking hundreds of pictures for a hand wave to make it look smooth
You can choose the normal running cycle, and manually edit the snipers arms so that they are swinging by rotating the shoulders or something. It'll take some time, but it'll give you the effect.
"If we want to make a soft time selection, you can go ahead and drag out a fall off by either clicking and draging at the edges of the time selection, or holding down the shift mose wheel." This part didn't make any sense to me, please help. Also, I couldn't perform the action.
What it does: if you make a change, it can make those changes happen gradually rather then suddenly. How to do it: you can create a soft selection by clicking the time selection and then whilst pressing shift, using the mouse wheel.
You should download it and try it yourself, it's fun to do and if you're actually creating something yourself in SFM following these steps, it won't seem as hard!
I noticed the editor came up with little messages while he was recording the scout footage that mentioned no damage. But you can probably toggle that off.
Very confusing, but I think i got it. I used Spy instead of Pyro, just to be different, I even figured out how to make his head turn as the camera pulls back, as if he's watching the scouts run past.
It helps if you have different computer specifications, as that's what they're looking for right now. Really good computers or really bad computers aren't as important in a beta as the ones in the middle.
I just figured it out after a half hour... while the sequence is orange still, make sure you get the orange triangles, if not, while it's still orange, try doing the shift + mouse wheel... That technique helped me the most, however my falloff went beyond my clip.
Ah I finally understand the soft part. I thought you meant press shift and mouse wheel. It's actually press shirt and scroll the mouse wheel. Nearly lost my mind until I found another video that just explained it a little differently.
We don't pollute. We express our love for the show. And to get into detail about it, it's a show that changes what we are as humans. Plus, every show has a fandom. Have you looked at Dragon Ball?
As other people have mentioned, when trying to do the FoV thing nothing happens. I select my Camera1 as existing element, it's one of the selected cameras in the viewport but when I move the slider nothing happens
Yeah I'm getting that feeling as well. But I really want to try and dedicate the time and effort to put into this. The more experience and repetition of working with SFM will lead to much more optimal outcomes and the less it will feel overwhelming.
At first I thought I was stupid but then I read the comments and everyone's confused, thank god.

I'm used to using timelines as I use After Effects almost everyday but come on, each shot has it's own time? That's fucked up

yeah ok good for you
I had to rewatch it to fully understand it, it is a very complicated program.
To make the soft Falloff you need to click "Near" the edge of the selection. Not "on" the selection.
