This is my reaction, analysis and breakdown of the great & amazing Morissette Amon’s performance of Fly like a bird by Mariah Carey. This great performance that really builds, displays Morissette’s beautiful tone, and lots of great runs and mixed belts. I LOVE this song. For a pop tune it has such a soulful, gospel kind of feel and a really great melody. I am really enjoying the straight tone we are getting, the forward sound, the beautiful mixes towards the end, and of course all the great riffs. This song really gives Mori the opportunity to showcase A LOT of her skills….from a delicate straight tone, to huge belts, to crazy riffs but we still hear some great musicality and very appropriate styling of the melody. I appreciate the tasteful choices and just the way she performed this, glancing at the camera and having fun the whole time.
I am a jazz/R&B vocalist, baritone saxophone player, music educator, and vocal coach local to New Orleans. I have two degrees in jazz/music education and work professionally playing music. Fun fact: the kid on the keys studied music at Berkley and the guy on the bass arranges a lot of Morissette's stuff and the dude on drums is also a professional in Japan and was requested specifically for this performance. All the elements of this were recorded seperately and edited by her husband Dave Lamar. It's really a work of art this one (as well as her entire 2020 catalog...a really amazing year for Morissette and her team).

After reacting to her viral covers, i hope one day you’d go over her originals. Esp her EP signature album. She co wrote it with her husband, Dave. 😊 my favorites by order are Love you still, Will you stay, Mirror, Trophy, Phoenix. Bonus one that’s not on her EP is Naririnig mo ba and undangon tani.

Really appreciate your detailed breakdown of this performance. It really highlights how Morissette attacked this song. Probably one of the hardest Mariah songs to cover but imo Morissette absolutely hit it out off the park! So much so it definitely deserves more views.

In a previous comment of mine, you should check out Darryl Ong- he's a RB singer and he does collabs with other singers like Morisette, Kyla, Budakhel, etc. Notable covers are "Weak", "You are the Reason", "One Sweet Day" and "Ordinary People".

Great reaction and analysis. You found a Filipino artist gem in Morissette and you’ll for sure be introduced to a lot more great Filipino artists very soon. But I think you should first check out Morissette’s other half when it comes to great vocals, Gigi De Lana who’s also very versatile and I think you’ll like her choice of music as she does have a couple of jazz and soul songs, like through the fire, better days, and fly me to the moon. You’ll be hooked 😉
Hate to break this to many out there but Morissette's overall singing prowess and diverse abilities are way more impressive than Mariah Carey's.

I disagree in calling Morissette as the Mariah Carey of the Philippines.
Each one has it's ability. There could be some influence that cannot be denied but not completely. Morissette has a lot more different than Mariah cause she has also influence from other singer and her original style. It is awful to hear that title. Mariah is Mariah Morissette is Morissette.
Better term than "Mariah Carey of the Philippines" is "Morissette Amon of the -World- Universe"
