I wouldn't go that far. There are only two original members left, and this is the 1st album of new material in nearly 20 years. I suspect the only reason that new material is out is because Albert Bouchard's Re Imaginos landed in the Billboard top 100 last year.

THIS is Blue Öyster Cult Who would have expected such a masterpiece 40 years after "Veteran Of The Psychic Wars" and such a video reminiscent of the "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees" cover even after 45 years? The Blue Öyster Cult is timeless. And "The Symbol Remains" is one hell of a ride through the whole band's history. True to the band's heritage with every note.

It's amazing how much Buck continues to progress as a guitarist. Most musicians are stuck in the times they came from, while Buck sounds like he could play in a symphonic metal band. Of course, he was ahead of his time, so it's no surprise.

As a guitarist myself, when you play for a certain period of time (which varies depending upon your natural ability) there shouldn't be any physical effort required. The real point though is that many bands are products of their eras. If Foghat is still around, they're most likely playing what they did in the 70s, while Buck is always moving forward.

There were no lyrics in the album but on the sleeve inside it said you could send a self addressed postage paid envelope to an address , I think in NY, and they would send a copy. I did and received a simple photocopy of the lyrics for the entire album. Obviously long before internet - so happy to hear new music sounding so close to the older classic BOC!!!
2 bands that need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are Blue Oyster Cult and Emerson , Lake, and Palmer. If they can induct rap artists, they can certaitly induct people who play real rock music, on real instruments, who have also influenced numerous hard rock, metal, and prog rock artists. If not, there needs to be an alternative hall of fame of sorts for deserving artists to be recognized.

When i was 15, mom picked up my "On Your Feet" album. Scanned the cover, then opened it and let out an "Oh my God!" She demanded I attend church with her on Sunday, which I did under protest. A fan since Secret Treaties. A fan still.
I always said to kids and teen metal heads that "Ghost" is like a souped up Blue Öyster Cult. But these guys come back and play Ghostier music than the actual ghost. FUCK!!!! this is killer material. its weird. one of their best albums, even compared to the 70's material. YOU ROCK

@@Rhino1277HotRails, I saw Blue Oyster Cult live on Saturday August 6, 2022 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in California. BOC rocked and were so chill at the same time. I loved the show! Before the concert I had only heard (Don’t Fear) The Reaper, Godzilla and Burnin’ for You. Since the concert I have discovered treasure in listening to their albums. I have listened to most of them now more than once. So much wonderful rocking music with good melodies and interesting, thought provoking lyrics. There are many truth drops in their songs. They were shredding before metal was a thing.
That's what I thought as well especially after I saw him during an interview. Though in his regular tone and volume when he talks he sounds nothing like he sounds when he's singing. Albeit a lot of that is from the amplification of his voice. He's 75 years old too!! I heard him say that during that interview I saw the other day when he was asked about touring to support this album whenever that may be because of the Chinese disease..."I'd like to (tour) but the Covid thing...and hey I'm 75 years old too so"... I'm paraphrasing but I understood what he was talking about as I'm about 8 or 9 years behind him so...like that dude on the Ancestry commercial says "You never know"...
I met the band back in the late 80"s after their show. We had a drink and I got their autographs. I still have the ticket they signed. It is one of my fondest memories. And they are still kicking ass and taking names. This video is superb. Can not wait to see them live again once this damn virus is under control.
I also saw them at a small club here in Phoenix in the early 90s I met, and talked with the band for a few mins after the show, and they all autographed my t shirt for me. It was a great show, I eventually lost that shirt in a storage unit I couldn't pay on, a very sad day indeed. Especially since I've never seen another BOC shirt with that particular design, it was a white long sleeve shirt that had a hand in the middle of the shirt that was surrounded by flames, in the hand was a crystal ball, and inside the ball was the Cronus Symbol, and I've never seen another one.
I hope to become 76 someday. I was fortunate enough to spend a Christmas gathering at his aunts house the year my dad died days before. During one of my darkest days of my life (until my only kid died) Mr Bloom shared his time with me, class all the way

Yes, VERY ‘Nosferatu’. And, indeed, it is the facf of the most influential band in my life, telling a story written by one of the most influential authors in my life that makes this song. So extraordinary. I loved BÖC before I encountered Lovecraft, but at this point in my life, a good 30 and 20 years later, respectively, they have had an equally potent impact upon my spiritual beliefs and personal cosmology, not to even begin to mention my sense of aesthetics in far more areas than just music and literature.
At 3:40 the guitarist fingers look like they are bleeding from absolutely shredding that guitar. Also buck dharma once again melts his fingers for our entertainment!
I get it, cheap videos. This actually looked pretty good nevertheless! 'That Was Me' was the first one I saw and it was a bit of a shock. It's quite an awful video to be honest. But at least the music is good!

Eric Bloom, still badass at 75! (And, I've just noticed from Wikipedia, a fellow Sagittarian.) It's Saturday, November 7, 2020, and I'm listening to this to celebrate. So glad to see a new album from my favorite band, and so glad it has one of their trademark "story in song" tracks!
Although all the songs on this album have something that hooks you in, I have to say this is my favourite song on the album, lyrics, music, that guitar drop, and after watching Ritchie's Q&A on the making of the album, the story behind making the song.
Interesting comment. Actually, some of their lyrics are gross and not at all wholesome but perhaps part of why their fans seem so relatively clean-cut is that BOC's lyrics don't glorify drugs or even devil-worship. They talk about occult stuff but I don't think they were really satanic or anything like that. Out of curiosity, on what data do you assess the wholesomeness of their fan-base and by what criteria do you compare it o the wholesomeness of other bands' fan bases?

"Perfect Water" is awesome and Buck Dharma s my favorite rock guitarist. I am trying to re-write what my computer ate and am losing interest but anyway loyal schmoyal they were how did I say it underrated and under-achievers. I also said I'm not a "fan" of artists in general because mostly there's just disappointment and I also said some stuff about how old duffers rest on their laurels - jeez, this is like trying to recount a dream - anyway I have a soft spot for BOC and am really glad they came out with this new album and I better post before my computer eats this like it did the last!

I've been a huge BOC for decades now. Basically since I was 16 years old. And as much as I love their old stuff, there are times when I think this is their BEST song.
I liked the first three songs, but I think I love this one. It feels like something from Black & White period, but with a contemporary finish, plus a good narrative.

@@Rhino1277HotRails, I saw Blue Oyster Cult live on Saturday August 6, 2022 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in California. BOC rocked and were so chill at the same time. I loved the show! Before the concert I had only heard (Don’t Fear) The Reaper, Godzilla and Burnin’ for You. Since the concert I have discovered treasure in listening to their albums. I have listened to most of them now more than once. So much wonderful rocking music with good melodies and interesting, thought provoking lyrics. There are many truth drops in their songs. They were shredding before metal was a thing.

That's what I thought as well especially after I saw him during an interview. Though in his regular tone and volume when he talks he sounds nothing like he sounds when he's singing. Albeit a lot of that is from the amplification of his voice. He's 75 years old too!! I heard him say that during that interview I saw the other day when he was asked about touring to support this album whenever that may be because of the Chinese disease..."I'd like to (tour) but the Covid thing...and hey I'm 75 years old too so"... I'm paraphrasing but I understood what he was talking about as I'm about 8 or 9 years behind him so...like that dude on the Ancestry commercial says "You never know"...

I met the band back in the late 80"s after their show. We had a drink and I got their autographs. I still have the ticket they signed. It is one of my fondest memories. And they are still kicking ass and taking names. This video is superb. Can not wait to see them live again once this damn virus is under control.

I also saw them at a small club here in Phoenix in the early 90s I met, and talked with the band for a few mins after the show, and they all autographed my t shirt for me. It was a great show, I eventually lost that shirt in a storage unit I couldn't pay on, a very sad day indeed. Especially since I've never seen another BOC shirt with that particular design, it was a white long sleeve shirt that had a hand in the middle of the shirt that was surrounded by flames, in the hand was a crystal ball, and inside the ball was the Cronus Symbol, and I've never seen another one.
I hope to become 76 someday. I was fortunate enough to spend a Christmas gathering at his aunts house the year my dad died days before. During one of my darkest days of my life (until my only kid died) Mr Bloom shared his time with me, class all the way
Having read the original Alchemist, this is pretty damn solid.
Yeah, despite being a somewhat barebones music video it does a pretty incredible job at capturing the mood of the original story.

Yes, VERY ‘Nosferatu’. And, indeed, it is the facf of the most influential band in my life, telling a story written by one of the most influential authors in my life that makes this song. So extraordinary. I loved BÖC before I encountered Lovecraft, but at this point in my life, a good 30 and 20 years later, respectively, they have had an equally potent impact upon my spiritual beliefs and personal cosmology, not to even begin to mention my sense of aesthetics in far more areas than just music and literature.
At 3:40 the guitarist fingers look like they are bleeding from absolutely shredding that guitar. Also buck dharma once again melts his fingers for our entertainment!
Richie is killing it with these video productions, not like the old days when a band would pay 10's if not 100's of thousands of $$ for a vid.
These videos have been cheap, but fun and actually let the song do what it's supposed to do.

I get it, cheap videos. This actually looked pretty good nevertheless! 'That Was Me' was the first one I saw and it was a bit of a shock. It's quite an awful video to be honest. But at least the music is good!

I discovered BOC just this year and I can’t believe how underrated they are. And I was even more surprised by how wholesome the fan base is.
Yes some Blue Boys survived I am not sure what's left of me just living out my tragic fate. But listening to epic BOC!
Interesting comment. Actually, some of their lyrics are gross and not at all wholesome but perhaps part of why their fans seem so relatively clean-cut is that BOC's lyrics don't glorify drugs or even devil-worship. They talk about occult stuff but I don't think they were really satanic or anything like that. Out of curiosity, on what data do you assess the wholesomeness of their fan-base and by what criteria do you compare it o the wholesomeness of other bands' fan bases?

Anyway, I got Fire Of Unknown Origin on vinyl when I was 17 and I thought it was cool. I bought some more records and mostly I was disappointed. I way dug certain cuts off of Club Ninja. "Perfect Water" is awesome and Buck Dharma s my favorite rock guitarist. I am trying to re-write what my computer ate and am losing interest but anyway loyal schmoyal they were how did I say it underrated and under-achievers. I also said I'm not a "fan" of artists in general because mostly there's just disappointment and I also said some stuff about how old duffers rest on their laurels - jeez, this is like trying to recount a dream - anyway I have a soft spot for BOC and am really glad they came out with this new album and I better post before my computer eats this like it did the last!

I've been a huge BOC for decades now. Basically since I was 16 years old. And as much as I love their old stuff, there are times when I think this is their BEST song.
I liked the first three songs, but I think I love this one. It feels like something from Black & White period, but with a contemporary finish, plus a good narrative.
