    One more thing those R14 center lugs add - they resist side slippage incredibly well. Great for steep mowing where a turf tire would probably end up doing more damage from slippage.

    R4's get a lot of hate but I find them to be absolutely fantastic.

      Yeah I agree. The only shortcoming is when I get too much snow in front of my snow pusher and lose traction. Honestly I could personally probably get by with turf tires and be better in winter, but it’s not enough of a concern to buy new tires. If I really wanted improvement, I could run chains in winter. Then the tread pattern matters not.

    Hey you left out one of my favorites, almost bald R1's! They act more like R4's but much cheaper 😂 Thanks for the video, I have R1's on my backhoe and R4 on my kubota. Like you I do finish mowing with a zero turn. So on my next kubota I think I'll give the R14's a shot.

    Most of the time, I love my R1s. The tractor spends time in the woods, pulling a plow, and brush hogging trails and field. My rears are 41 years and about 1600 hours old and on the way out… they do tear up the yard, but I’m not in the yard much and it’s not exactly nicely manicured anyway. If I was buying a new tractor (which I would want to be heavier than my Ford 1700) the R14s are definitely intriguing.

    Love my turf tires. I'm a homeowner, so most of the places I drive are grass, or the driveway. I use my L2250 to plow the driveway (with the bucket on my 300' driveway in MA. Was crushed stone, now paved.) Turf tires work fine for me.

    I had turf tires on my tractor for many years until they started looking pretty tired and the fronts kept going flat. They worked very well in snow. With that said, I changed to the R14 tires a couple years ago and I really like them. Good all around tire for mowing, loader work, and snow.

      @@gem1n12 my R14 do fine for mowing my lawn. I have no issues. Also, when mowing steep areas, I have much better traction than the turf tires I used to have on my tractor.

    I have the R14’s on a Kubota MX6000 hst.
    These are great tires!
    I had R4’s on a similar tractor previously. I didn’t have that tractor to long, before I wished for a more aggressive tire.
    The R14 excels at loader work, toughness, and traction, whereas the R4 excels in in only 2 areas, loader work and toughness.
    The R14 is probably perfect for most people.

    It was either Turf or the R14 when I was buying a new Kubota tractor in 2020, Glad I went with the R14! Maybe not quite as good in the snow, but the extra traction on dirt is well worth it!! And they are still pretty easy on the grass

  • @jimmcknight3021
    @jimmcknight3021 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When we got our Grand L last year, Kubota couldn't get them for us on our 3560. We upgraded from the R1 to the R4. That upgrade was around 800 dollars. I have heard it's more than that for the R14. R1 tires even on a small tractor are just too rough on the grass, but they do have great traction.

    I loved my turf tires, they worked great in northern Michigan snow too. We had mostly sand so they never loaded up. They have great traction because they had so much contact to the ground.

    Great discussion. I have been very impressed with the R14 tires too. But there's no doubt that for our property, the R1 (Ag) tires are necessary. Plenty of mud and wet areas.

    Nice overview of the different tires! I grooved my R4s last fall, it did improve snow traction. (rear only.) I use a rear blade and FL bucket for snow removal. I would imagine traction will be a little better overall with other conditions.

    After owning three tractors and having R1, r4 and now r14 tires and over 2000hrs of operation I can definitely say that for most work, r14 are the absolute best. They do lack a little in deep mud where r1 tend to shine.

  • @rob1733
    @rob1733 ปีที่แล้ว

    My ears perked up when you said the R1s wear quicker! Having not been given an option for tires when we bought our tractor (our first), I thought Great! I'll be able to replace our R1s with an R14 soon! Well, with just over 20 hours on our tractor, it'll take a while to get to 1500-2000 hrs! 😂

  • @evracer

    Grew up on a working farm with nothing but R1's to even consider. I have R3's on my L3700 and can confirm his analysis. If it isn't mud....they are way better than you would think for just about everything... Don't sell turfs short. They work really well for most homeowners or anyone mowing a yard or moving snow.

    I remember when nearly everyone had knobby tires on their vehicles during winter. Similar tread pattern to turf tire only deeper and wider spaced, so can see how turf tire may work better in snow.

    I have an mx6000 with r14’s and after having r4’s the r14’s are much better in snow and also ride better. One downfall to the r14’s is kubota has no answer for wheel weights with the r14 rims yet on the Mx series anyways. I would like to add wheel weights but they won’t bolt up to the r14 rims.

    My customers like them overall. One issue they are not nearly as strong as an R4. And... they have a short profile meaning the hold less Ballas. That is an issue for loader operation. I'm still an R4 and cross Har lug fan.

    I made the big mistake of getting the R-4 tire on solid rear rims for my kubota.They have poor traction for what I use my tractor for,also can't run snow chains do to lack of clearance between tire and fender.I wish I would have gotten the R-1 tire on adjustable style rims.BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART..

    Can you add the R14s to an L6060HSTC with BH92 hoe now? I was wondering if you could if the computer of the older models would support the size for the odometer to be correct. I currently have R4 and I don’t like how they can slide sideways in the woods when the pack with mud. I have a B2601 with R14s I use for finish mowing and I’ve really loved them.

    I would like to know how R14's do for tractors making hay. Currently, my tractors see a lot of road use for making hay and I also would like a tire that performs better on harder ground without having to dig. Honestly I mower hay with a tractor pulling a 9ft haybine that had turf tires and it worked amazing, until the dew started to settle in the later evenings. In theory I see the R14 being a good mix. The reason why I am overlooking the R4 is the heavy sidewall causes for a very rough ride when mowing at 6-7mph.

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is probably some merit here. You can't run low PSI like a radial R1, but i would guess it would be a nice improvement over a bias Would road better regardless.

    • @RobHowery

      R14’s ride rough. Not as bad as R4’s do- But much harsher than R1’s M7060 with 1100 hrs . Mine are loaded with 600 lbs of weight added- running 10 lbs of Pressure rear and 18 in front.

    • @lanceolot22
      @lanceolot22 ปีที่แล้ว

      The R4 and R14 are both heavy duty tires. They where designed with loader work in mind, and have stiffer sidewalls and a stronger construction vs a R1.
