Hi, My name is Maureen Chandler. Im nearly 73 yrs old. I just finished watching your video on how to use a microscope . I got one for Christmas. Its far from the state of the art like yours but Im learning and far from a great jeweler. I finally got some nice tools. rolling mill. and SR foreman. runs like a dream. next to my dremel that I been using. I dont know if you'll see these as its about 3 yrs sinse you did this video. cant wait to try working with burrs and stone setting. you make it look so easy and Im sure it is not. Today is sat. right after christmas and I have to tell you Blaine. Im so sorry to hear of the bombing in Tennessee . I live in Colorado mountains and I have been watching the news. I send my love and good wishes to all of you there. thanks for your videos. I will keep looking for them. Maureen.
Thank you for this. Never would I have thought to bring the hardness of a file below that of opal. Nice. Time and money saved already today at my work. Thanks
He is absolutely amazing at his art. No matter how technical it may seem ,this truly is a form of art that literally reigns amongst the masters of jewelry making. Genius craftsmanship.
I'm up at 12:30 at night watching this. I have learned more in 40 minutes than I have in my whole life about making a ring. Very detailed. You sound like a good teacher.
Blaine Lewis is one of the best teachers I have ever had for any subject. What a gift to see his talent, enthusiasm and many years of experience in action. It's rare to meet people like him who have so much knowledge and are not burned out and also so willing to share. I attended 2 workshops at New Approach in Tennessee and it was life changing. This is like being back in class. Thank you Rio Grande and Blaine Lewis!
I don't even set stones in prongs and I wanted to buy every one of the burs you used!!! The best instructional video on TH-cam hands down. Please demonstrate tube setting faceted stones? The magnification was excellent. We could see exactly what you were teaching. Bravo!! Thank you very very much!!
I jumped when you cut that first prong off! I really did. Have you ever broken a stone when moving a difficult prong? I do not make jewelry, but find this all so fascinating. Especially since I just got my first microscope. I was going to use it for just looking at things I found around the house, in the yard, plants, etc. And then I thought about my jewelry. I have one real diamond, a ring... and I compared it to some CZ's I have, and some lab created diamonds. Couldn't believe what i was seeing!!! Now I am so interested in how jewelry is made. Having my own scope has opened my eyes. And so much of the work you and other jewelers do IS made under a high powered scope. It's such intricate, detailed work, and I am impressed!!
I have been learning about cutting and polishing opals. Some of the opals I have are transparent Mexican opals, which look so much better faceted and traditionally set, not as cabochons...your advice about setting and tooling around opals was invaluable! Thanks for sharing these tips!
Thank you, I learned so much!!! I'm a Native American and my art reflects my heritage but your tutorial has encouraged me to engulf additional methods. You're very clear, succinct and teaching skills are among the very best. Thank you!
What an excellent video. Great instruction. Shared decades of experience and tips & tricks, in an interesting and engaging format. Great cadence. And even a great voice. Subscribed.
That was amazing! I thought it was going to be a short video but I couldn't stop watching once I started. Some day, I'd like to be a proficient stone setter and I found your tips very useful. Since I'm nervous about messing up the stone during clean-up and polishing, I really like the idea of making a cup bur as well as annealing a file to protect the stone. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and talent. This was EXCELLENT!👍
Exceptional level of skill and teaching. This jeweler is by far the best teacher I ever see on internet. Thank you Rio for providing such high level of quality on your channel.
I cannot explain how much I am excited to watch this video...I am a new in this field and trying to lear..Thank you sir for making such a nice video on stone setting...👍

Mr. Lewis, an excellent video. Very useful tips and tricks. You’re an excellent teacher, and your proficiency is evident throughout the various demonstrations. I can tell that you have really focused on letting the tools do the work, not as they want to, but as you require. I have subscribed, and I would happily watch your videos. This was a pleasure to watch all the way through, and I thank you.
You are such a remarkable teacher. Love your personality. The video footage is exceptional! Thanks for sharing your expertise. I could watch and learn from you all day long. You are truly a master at your craft. Thanks for asking if there is anything we would like to learn. I am new to this and now feel like I can accomplish so much more.
I wish i had a glass of wine right now, i could just sit back and watch you make jewelry all day. I saw you at a trade show doing a demo years ago and have been super impressed with your innovative ideas ever since. You’re awesome Blaine!

Such beautiful work, I just absolutely love watching true masters of their craft exhibit their skill in this way, it's very inspiring. The way you explain your work as you go without making the watcher feel overwhelmed or feel like you're condescending makes me as a viewer feel more comfortable and confident in what you're doing, because you explain it in a way I can understand. My wife and I are getting into jewelry work soon, and have been watching a lot of your videos as well as those of Andrew Berry. Both true masters, and very inspiring to watch, I only hope I can one day be even half as skilled!
I have Blaines flush setting dvd, and I highly recommend it. He makes all the steps easy to understand, plus the section on making burnishing tools is amazing.

Thank you sharing your knowledge and experience with us , it’s a pleasure to watch you . Please can you , or anyone else , advise if any precautions are needed when adapting steel tools in your jewellery making area? I was once told that I couldn’t even use a tool on precious metal again if it had been used on steel, as it would contaminate and the harder steel particles would interfere with attempts to polish . Thanking you again . 😊

this video was awesome. a former tool and die maker I really liked this. and picked up several tips I may never work in the Jewelry industry but I will have a better appreciation of their skill levels and time involved with repairs
Great video and great explanation on everything discussed. Hats off to the master jeweler. Goes to show no matter how good u think you are there is always someone many steps ahead . Never stop learning even if its something you already know. He proves there might just be a easier way. Thank you for the video keep up the great work
Thank you so much....every tip was valuable and well presented. I would love to attend your classes some day. You kept my attention and every step was easy to understand. That said, I went back to see how you held the pliers when closing the prongs and could not see the second and better position. I think you must have had your thumb down the second time thereby turning those fingers around you mentioned? I hope that's right. I know how the tiniest change can make stone setting easier.
Thank you for an incredible video. You mentioned that you would show how to make the micro needle burnisher. I have watched the video twice and didn't see that part. Do you have a video on making one? I searched rio grande and they sell needle burnishers but not a micro needle burnisher. Thank you again for great tips. I the items you tagged in a list on their site.
Hello, we will make sure and pass your question on to our Tech Team and see if we can find a video resource for you on the micro needle burnisher. We will also look into where you can find one to purchase. Thanks fo reaching out!
@@billsaunders1879 Hello, we watched the video and did not see anywhere that Blaine showed how to make one, but we spoke with our Jewelery Tech Team and they said that while they cannot speak to Blaine's process for making a burnisher, the way that they make burnishers or texturing tools is to use old worn out burs. They said that they will use a mizzy wheel (heatless wheel) and grind a point, for this type of tool they would recommend using a worn out .5-1mm round bur because there is less material to remove. Thenfollow up with a black silicon wheel to smooth out the grinding marks. Again this is how our Tech Team recommends makig one and they cannot say for sure how Blane makes his. We hope this is helpful to your and to answer your question about the micro needle burnisher. While we did not have a "micro" needle burnisher on our site you can feel free to reach out to us at 800-545-6566 for assistance with selecting a burnisher that can best suit your needs! Thank you agian for reaching out!

Thank you - great instructional video, even for someone like me who qualified as a goldsmith back in 1991- nice to get back to the basics.
Immensely informative, especially for we novice stone setters. Many thanks!
this video was awesome. a former tool and die maker I really liked this. and picked up several tips
I may never work in the Jewelry industry but I will have a better appreciation of their skill levels and time involved with repairs
what a fantastic video! New tools to acquire and new classes to take. Thanks Rio and Blaine!
where can we find the micro needle burnisher that he is using Rio Grande?
which rubber wheel is he using?
GREAT VIDEO, Blaine! By far my favorite cup bur - cuts quickly and leaves a nice clean finish. Wish they came in larger sizes.
Thank you Blaine! As a beginner this video is is invaluable!

Thanks for sharing Blaine in such a clear and understandable way. Which vice/clamp are you using to hold the piece?
Hi Simon, This is a GRS ring clamp: bit.ly/2RxRmwc. Hope this helps, and have a great day.

Great Video. Im not even a jeweler, but watched the entire video. Great work.
@@RioGrande1944 thank you. I did find needle burnishers on your site. Just not the micro needle burnisher like he mentioned.
@@RioGrande1944 thank you so much for the information.
