I've just watched it again for the 3rd time after discovering I had cut a perforated line into the rub over cast setting I purchased from Cookies. That's £8 down the Swaney.
I hadn't taken into account the tapering outer wall of the setting and had got carried away with the setting burr. I hate my life 😐😉

I just got an emerald ring and it’s bezel set but the back of the stone is completely covered by the metal (gold). This seems odd to me as all my other gemstone rings have at least a small opening behind the stone. I think it’s better with an open back because more light can shine through the stone. I’m wondering if this is something a jeweler could fix by removing the stone from the bezel setting, cutting a hole in the back of the setting and re-setting the stone. Or would it be too risky & damage the ring too much to attempt this? Great video! I think i’m going to try some jewelry making classes someday.

Nice job! A bright cut inside the bezel next to the stone gives a nice finishing touch on top of removing the excess metal covering (and hiding) the stone.
Which is a common problem in stones set by people who mostly learn by themselves.

Great presentation! But it would be helpful if you added text or verbalized what was taking place. For instance, what’s holding the setting in place? What tools are being used? Walking the novice through each step. Things like that. I guess you could say.... look at it from the perspective of the newbie and create your content with that mind. Thanks!

Debbie, I would think the question is obsolete as you wouldn't set the stone before soldering the bezel to your jewelry piece. I was about to ask the same then it struck me that she has it mounted to the wood for teaching purposes only. I'm only guessing as I'm a beginner.

I hope you can help! How do you do rubover set a single round stone on signet rings? Should I use a flat top with straight edge stone and just glue it? Or a flat top with single bevel stone? If using a FTSB stone that is 1.5mm in height, do i need the bevel to be a bit higher than the stone? And what would the thickness of the bezel should be? Many thanks in advance!
