As someone who worked at Sorrel, yes there is a man who lives up stairs. I don't believe he lives there anymore, but I was told to tell people that the upstairs is a 'fire hazard,' however the caretaker would often show up and walk upstairs while I was giving a tour. It got to a point where, if we heard footsteps upstairs, I just told people who was living upstairs. Sorrel has a fascinating history and some unexplained activity, but I didn't want to lie to our guests and claim they were really hearing a ghost.
@@IamaKaliedoscope Not everyone agreed with the suggestions, so I know other guides were honest with people. I think they were trying to keep the mystique of the place, but again - there’s so many unexplained things that happen there. The only paranormal activity I’ve ever experienced has been at Sorrel. I remember watching the Sorrel episode with another guide and we were both shocked and disappointed that they weren’t told about Steve before filming. I’m with Ryan - if someone lives at a location you’re going to investigate, that needs to be disclosed.
@@Logan_Taaffe_ Thanks for being honest. A lot of previous staff members including managers no longer work with the home. We have made a lot of changes to ensure we are as honest, open, and historically accurate as possible since they have left.
I appreciate that Ryan is so dedicated to not faking evidence that he gets pissed at other people faking or tainting evidence in the places he visits. Ryan's sincerity is a huge draw for the appeal of the show, to me!
I understand that but it's kind of ridiculous for him to assert a reddit comment is less credible than half of the crap he claims as "ghost evidence" both on watcher and BUN.
@ I think it boils down to knowing people lie on the internet (especially for Reddit clout) vs experiencing paranormal "evidence" first hand. Either way, he is a man of conviction, and it's why a lot of people, myself included, enjoy the show
I've been to the Sorrel Weed house twice, most recently in 2019. Both times I was told the second floor is off limits because it's condemned and they're worried people could fall through. If that's not true, and there's actually a dog hanging out up there, then they're definitely being disingenuous.
I reached out to them they said they did have a dog staying up there with the caretaker till 2019 but the dog passed away and its rumored some people hear it’s ghost from time to time. This could all be a big misunderstanding potentially
If the dog died in 2019 as reidmonninger11 was told, and the Sorrel-Weed Haunted Mansion segment on Buzzfeed was 6 years ago, 2018, then it is plausible the sounds were the dog. Whether or not "they" knew the dog was there that night, no one but those working at the Sorrel-Weed house the night of the recording will ever know for sure.
I'm with Ryan. If you're investigating a place that is known of having a ghost dog, someone should have said, "Hey, there is a possibility of an actual dog being on-site." Then, after the investigation, they could have asked the owners if the dog was there at the time if no one was sure while the investigation was happening.
and Shane isn't saying anyone was wrong, he's saying they should've asked in case there was a miscommunication. Heck this is something Shane should've done himself instead of making Ryan do all the research and investigative work, cus there's alot of other evidence that Ryan was busy with and they all forgot to about clarifying a mysterious noise. Shane is definitely bringing this up so that in the future they would be more careful and ask these questions instead of quickly believing that everyone is telling us the truth, which Ryan was quick to believe the guy but the guy could've made a mistake.
You're naive if you think the owners of a business (which relies on the "existence" of ghosts) have any interest in being honest. "Just ask them" as if they're gonna be like "aw shucks, you caught us!" Lol
I support Ryan. This isn’t just a job to him, it’s a passion, which not a lot of us get the opportunity to do both in one. So for his credibility to be questioned and his time and effort wasted, has to be so frustrating.
Yeah exactly, and even if it WAS just a job to him, it means he takes it seriously, has integrity and wants to provide to the best of his ability what he sets out to. Nowt wrong with that at all.
This is a terrible statement @jennyNYC1. Just because you are passionate you should not be questioned? That is a terrible idea, so facts and evidence don't matter as long as you are passionate? So anyone can claim anything at all and should not be questioned because they are passionate? A true investigator should and MUST have their evidence questioned, that is how you acquire legitimacy, in fact true investigators welcome peer review of claims and evidence, this is how you push scientific frontiers. No matter how many REM pods go off or garbled EVP they get, if they cant be questioned they should just pack things and go home instead.
Whether you're a believer in the supernatural or not, you have to admire the amount of effort and dedication Ryan takes into these investigations. I feel for Ryan cause he wants to give these people the benefit of the doubt while staying as authentic as possible. Wanting to see the best in people should never be ridiculed. Someone's passions should never be ridiculed.
It should not be ridiculed BUT Ryan has to consider that humans are running a business and they benefit from him thinking everything is real. Good on Ryan for being on the bright side but unfortunately people are not all good.
Ryan is so valid for being angry & upset about being misled, whether it was intentional or not. Ryan has always prided himself on being open & honest about their experiences at these locations and the evidence they find, and he’s never wanted to fake anything, so of course he wants to believe that owners & staff are being 100% honest about what they’re telling him. It’s not surprising that haunted locations will fabricate or inflate things to attract visitors, but that’s only going to hurt the locations in the long run when stories like this come out that they’ve been dishonest and faking things on a regular basis. Fortunately Shane & Ryan have fostered their authenticity over their career in their investigations to the point that when people point out that something seems fake, everyone immediately blames the location, not the boys for lying.
ryan is too good for the scammy people who run these haunted places 😭 he's so honest and believes in the best in people and unfortunately they're not reciprocating the favour clearly!
@@chloehuppe9647 it's genuinely sweet how much faith Ryan has in the people around him. I'm a Shaniac through and through but the conversation in this episode increased my respect for Ryan by a lot.
Ryan didn't just come up with the word condemned. If there's a caretaker with a dog living upstairs, then it's not condemned, and they were clearly dishonest about the state of what is, for their purposes, a film set. I'm a Shaniac, but let's be clear, in this, he's making every excuse for dishonest behavior. This isn't about ghosts. It's about paying for plane tickets, equipment, crew salaries, hotel rooms, et cetera, to film at a promised empty location, and showing up to have a dog hidden on location and spoiling the audio.
@@JABurtin I think Shane's point was they couldn't possibly know the truth of what actually went down, whether it was a dishonest cash grab, something the employee forgot to mention, something the employee genuinely didn't know, a miscommunication, a misunderstanding on Ryan's part, etc. -- but the real significant info was that the location was known for having a dog there, so Ryan's insistence that it was a ghost dog and refusal to accept anything else no longer held weight. The only definite point he was making was what he argued in the past, which was that the location was known to have a dog upstairs according to people online, and Ryan couldn't dismiss that anymore.
@la_arana_discoteca To believe that the employees were being anything less than dishonest, one must assert that Ryan pulled the word "condemned" out of his butt. He was obviously told that it was condemned, and others from the area have already confirmed that this is their common practice when someone wants to rent the building overnight to film a ghost hunt. Applying occam's razor, the most obvious reason to be dishonest is that they know that a dog skittering around upstairs would compromise the validity of any audio evidence collected, and many potential clients would likely decline to film there. This is a dishonest business practice that could have easily cost Watcher thousands of dollars in travel, filming, editing, lost potential views, wasted opportunity cost to film at a different location, and damage to the reputation of the channel. Bickering over the evidence is just playful banter. Ryan and Steven correctly assessed the situation and recognized the potential threat to the success of their business.
And somehow Shane doesnt get why Ryan is so frustrated. Maybe because Shane doesn't care or maybe because he never had to worry about these things ever.
I agree, but these people dont really care. At the end of the day Watcher goes there to film content and they left with content. As far as they’re concerned they’ve hold their responsibility I suppose.
I investigated the Sorrel Weed house on 10/30/2019. We had done a regular tour earlier that day and found out that they did small/private investagations after hours. The minimum was 6 people. There were 4 in our group and 2 others. They kept us seperate to make it more private as you know there is the main house and then the carriage/servant house. We took turns in each building. They also used to upload the investigations on you tube, unfortunately I tried finding the link for mine and it says this video is no longer available. :( We were absolutely told we weren't allowed on the fourth floor or staircase up to the fourth floor as the care taker and his dog lived up there. We were also told he comes and goes and they don't always know when he is there. Later in the investigation we were in the sitting room and clearly heard footsteps. The 4 of us looked at eachother and said "I guess he is home". I am with Ryan. Withholding information is absolutely lying. Especially because they know you are doing this for a show that thousands will see. I don't like how the guys were getting on Ryan's case about it and making all kinds of excuses for the employees. It was 100% in their benefit to not tell you guys, so any noises from upstairs would be taken as paranormal. They also do historic tours, paranormal tours, and after hours paranormal investigations. This is a business to them, day in and day out. I have a hard time believing they just "forgot" to mention to you guys that the house wasn't completely empty. Love you guys! Boogara all the way!!!
Ryan is right, if there was a Dog or something upstairs they should have made it very clear that there was something up there. I also agree with Ryan that people who are letting you investigate should be honest about the area and if there's anything that could affect the investigation.
Yeah I don’t really understand Shane’s argument. If people show up to your haunted location to do a ghost investigation, obviously they should know about something that may be making noise in the house so they don’t confuse it for evidence. Ryan’s right, it’s disingenuous at best
I totally agree with Ryan. The way I see it, imagine renting an Air BnB and being told "There's no one here" only to find out someone actually lives full-time in the attic. If you are told "You have the entire place to yourself" I would 100% think that means we are alone in the house/location. If the staff doesn't know that the caregiver is there when locking down the location for you, they are not thoroughly checking that place at night. They also should've been more responsible about disclosing someone being there because that's so unsafe for the caregiver!! What if, during the shoot, the guys said "You know what let's call the cops because it sounds like squatters?". This is 100% on the people that look over this location
I don’t like how Ryan is being treated like he’s naive or he didn’t do his due diligence. He has a generally optimistic view of other people and that’s not a bad thing!! It’s not his fault that he trusts people to do their jobs! He’s not naive just because he doesn’t have a cynical outlook. It’s good to approach people in good faith. Instead of blaming him for trusting you should blame the owners for failing to provide what they were responsible for, even if it was unintentional it’s NOT Ryan’s fault.
I completely agree here. I didn’t really like the tone of this ep with how Shane ended up talking to him here. Ryan’s passion and dedication to the show is so clear that for Shane to suggest he “didn’t do his job” or misheard felt off.
@@MainAcc0 "I think that blaming someone for being lied to is good but calling someone out for lying is bad because they might have had reasons" - not a normal opinion, but you're a bad faith actor so it doesn't really matter what you think.
Yeah it felt like Ryan was being gaslit a lot. Yes, the evidence/ noise was probably due to the actual dog, but saying that his “credibility was leaking from his pockets” or implying that he didn’t do his due diligence just because he wanted to have good faith in the owners seemed really demeaning. There is, in fact, an implied code of conduct when it comes to Ghost hunting because people get called out and ousted for faking evidence all the time. Biggest example would be Zach from Ghost Hunters international or Cody and Satori from the Conjuring house incidents. Yes people lie, but it is not okay or something that people want to expect as the norm in the Ghost hunting community. It’s very much looked down upon and shamed on. So I would consider that a conduct enforced by the community/ professionals. I think Shane is just naturally a skeptic which is okay, but what’s not okay is when his skepticism causes him to disregard Ryan’s experiences and perspective.
Y’ALL- look up Tiya Miles, she’s a historian who helped prove the owners of the Sorrel-Weed house have a very well documented history of completely making up stories and lying on their tours
Lol Shane, you literally said there is known to be a dog there. So how you gonna sit there and say well maybe the staff didn't know. You can't just take shit back Shane. I'm literally with Ryan on this one. Ryan takes it serious and he likes doing it cause he's curious.
54:55 actually makes me not want to watch anymore. Poor Ryan is being laughed at and poked fun at for something he’s so passionate about and has made his success in doing. The vibe feels so childish and mean coming from Shane and the others.
I'm with Ryan, and I think Shane is coming across a little disingenuous here. They obviously pay a lot ot money to these locations to investigate there, and much of Ryan's livelihood relies on these locations being uncontaminated. If Ryan was told there was nobody on the upper floor and there was, that person was the single point of failure threatening the plausibility and livelihood of Ryan's work. Shane, I think you should stop trying to be Mr.niceguy and just admit the people who misled you, whether knowingly or otherwise, were out of order.
whether or not the investigation was even for a paranormal investigation, they pay to rent out these places for their videos and for the crew that comes with them, not to mention the funds for the travel itself. it’s extremely disrespectful to assure that the place would be completely empty when you’re definitely being paid well by these people to shoot one video in your building. like imagine you’re renting out an airbnb that happens to be a duplex but you’ve been assured that no one would have access to the other part of the building, you would be completely alone and then there’s someone there like watching you sleep. or renting a space to shoot a movie you know? possibly could’ve been a miscommunication or someone not caring that much about their job but if part of the agreement to rent the space is that no one would be there, you would check with a superior. it’s not like these investigations are done on a whim, they’re extremely planned out in advance. they would have had plenty of time to communicate with all staff to ensure the dog wasn’t going to be there on the ONE DAY they planned to shoot or at least they should’ve all been aware and courteous enough to communicate with those renting the space that the dog was there. sorry it just made me really upset 😭
Shane’s relationship w/ Lazy Acres is like that friend who keeps getting back together w/ their ex. Their stories are interesting but ultimately you think they’re a lil crazy.
Ryan is right whether they said it was condemned or not they should have disclosed it. Who cares about ghost hunting ethics what about just being a good person it’s just a scummy thing to do.
Ironically Shane seemed pretty irrational in this conversation, shifting the blame where he can onto Ryan for something which could very clearly not be misinterpreted
for what its worth, i visited the sorrel-weed house last april for a daytime, architectural/historical tour (nothing spooky). i specifically asked the guide about the upstairs because of yalls video. the tour guide, who was very passionate about the history of the house, said that the owner uses the upstairs as personal storage and that she herself has been up there once or twice. basically an attic with old furniture, old CDs. granted its been some time since yall were there, but there was no mention of it being condemned and/or restored, etc. i do think nobody is wrong here, they may notve mislead yall on purpose but it sucks that it wasn't vacated properly. but i do think you have to go back to settle the score or whatever. shoutout to savannah, my family is from there and I have some family buried in bonaventure :)
as for the line that tour guides are meant to tell people about it being condemned/a fire hazard (assuming thats not true), i get it for the sake of keeping wandering guests or even investigators away. but it really fucks up the whole ghost hunting thing to leave a dog up there.
You guys need to have John Wolfe on to talk about debunking places like The Conjuring house or Bobby and Mackeys. Ryan has a ton of integrity and it's a real bummer how many people have probably scammed him. The financial gain/fame is the only thing that matters to most of these places. I believe some of these have been sincere but so many have too much to gain by having a steady stream of ghost hunters.
I'm rewatching the Sorell-Weed House ep. Within the first 2:30 minutes, they go into the dining room, which Ryan states, "this is actually a room that's not often investigated." Shane starts to ask why and Ryan states, "no, there's no particular reason, they just don't offer this part in the ghost tours." I bring this up, because if they told Ryan that, I'm sure the second floor was mentioned within that conversation, or around that time. So, in Ryan's defense, why would they lie about condemning it, if not to be deceitful. There was obviously a thorough conversation about where they could and could not go. Every employee would need to be on the same page, due to injuries and law suits. So, new or not, the employees would know. It was a waste of time and kudos to Steven for mentioning the monetary waste. Especially to a museum that is being extremely shady. I would look into contacting them and settling some things. Possible law suits to get back the money spent. Nothing you can do for wasted time, other than learn from it, which is worth more than any thing else in the world. Just an observation...Love you all and thank you from the bottom of my spooky soul!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟
@@AngryDad.Im a guy and ill leave long drawn out comments as well. I just like to get my point across without any potential misinterpration, as often happens online, and that can be hard to do in a couple sentences sometimes. Got nothing to do with women, get your mind out of that bs, it's just how different people go about different things.
I never comment and I love Shane but I felt he was just trying to play it safe and side with the sorrel people rather than his own bud. Give Ryan his flowers for being so passionate and Ryan was so valid in his feelings cus he takes it seriously else the ghost files show becomes a joke or haha show. And yes if there was a big dog roaming it is weird not to mention it to ppl literally renting the place to shoot.
I have so much respect for you all! That conversation was the main reason Ive followed them for so long. Steven and Matt add such a nice perspective to the convo as well. They were understanding both sides. Also, that segway into mail time had me dying lmao
Shane can do hypothetical situations to argue for how the dog being there could’ve been misconstrued but can’t speculate on how Bigfoot could exist The man is an enigma
interesting to hear some investigators return to a location over and over again. it would be so cool if Watcher could find a local LA haunt that they investigate more than once! like go back once a month, for a few months or something, even if for a few hours and compile the evidence to compare to the activity in a one-night investigation
No offense but how Steven, Shane and Matt were during this episode felt very condescending. I agree with Ryan, when you are scheduling a location for a shoot and say "we need this place locked down and cleared" and you are location that REGULARLY schedules these type of things . . . You clear the f*cking location and you know what that means. I am totally on the side that it is intentional they don't disclose the dog.
I’m an amateur ghost hunter with a bunch of equipment and I go in with the same beliefs as Ryan and the same skepticism as Shane. If I go with a group of people, I have a code of ethics as well where if we get evidence, I want to make sure it is absolutely unexplainable and not tainted by anyone else, that means citing when someone whispers or coughs, turning off cell phones to not get false reads on the rem pod and not jumping to conclusions when listening to the one word responses from a spirit box because you know it’s flipping through actual radio stations. I would get pissed too if I found out someone lied and tainted evidence knowingly when I got excited about not finding any way to debunk it.
I feel so bad for Ryan; he has all the right to be mad!! The amount of money and time they spend on these shows is a lot to be lied to. It can infuriate anyone. :(
Appreciate how much Ryan holds museums in high esteem, but as with any non-profit, the lines of communication between the leaders and the staff actually running operations is almost non-existent. It's entirely possible for something like that to slip through the cracks. Admission fees make up only a tiny percentage of museum operation costs, so it's unlikely that anyone there would willingly lie to boost sales. For-profits on the other hand, there's definitely an agenda when you're marketing your establishment as a haunted location. A place like Hill House was way sketchier and more likely to be rigged.
when a staff member uses specific loaded language like condemned and bars you from entering the area, you lose any right to claim innocence by saying "i was just doing as i told".
My only point is that museums are rarely well-oiled machines, there's a massive divide between those on top and those working the floor, and it's entirely feasible for something to slip through the cracks.
Exactly. Ghost files is by far their most popular show, followed closely by Mystery Files which were both founded because of Ryan's interest in the paranormal. He's a professional, trustworthy investigator in a field that's so clearly popular and profitable, they now get the luxury to go on tours around the country for it. Stop undermining him, and by extension the big ass audience you pull because of him.
Ikr? I'm a complete and utter skeptic, and a monumental arsehole, but jfc this is what pays your bills. THIS is the property that makes or breaks this channel. Some fun at his expense is ok, but bullying Ryan and just dragging his credibility and personality(ffs, why so personal y'all?) In the mud WHILE it's what he does that brings the dough in is not only uncalled for but borders on ungrateful. Get a grip. You're not some Nobel Laureates for believing Ghosts aren't real. Nobody really does.
Ryan the investigator, from a personal perspective of having genuine interest in paranormal investigation, is valid. And Ryan the business owner, concerned with the possibility of their time and money (rent, staff, productive, etc) being wasted, is valid. I get all perspectives, but the conversation went from funny to patronizing.
Did not like this episode. That whole section felt like everyone was trying to gaslight Ryan into thinking credibility doesn't matter. If I was in Ryan's shoes, I'd for sure expect to be treated with respect and such. It's not crazy of him to say that he expects for others to treat it professionally regardless of how silly the reason they are renting out the location is for. He obviously treats this very seriously and with honor and it felt so belittling to hear Ryan on the defensive like that the whole time.
Ryan: "It's weird they didn't disclose it." Well, we have to remember these are tourist attractions that rely on people who are interested in ghosts (or history). The Winchester house also omits parts of it's history to make the place seem more creepy/haunted. I believe in ghosts but I fully believe 98% of the stories and evidence are BS and we have to look at the source and question if they have incentives.
I don't understand why Shane was arguing on the side of the Sorrell house in this one? He's the science dude and sceptic, of everyone I would have thought he'd be the one arguing that it's dishonest behaviour and ruining any sort of scientific investigation. Ryan is right to be upset. They were either misled or lied to. If I was making a show where every little noise, visual etc can be torn apart by non believers or sceptics, I'd hope that the site followed all the rules like no other people on site, no sound recording etc. As Ryan rightfully said, it's a waste of their time, money and energy. If someone didn't know the full info, then send someone who does have the full info on the site? #TeamRyan
if Shane doesn't believe in ghosts why would he argue for the sake of "ruining any sort of scientific investigation".... science says ghosts aren't real lol. so for him it doesn't matter either way other than a location and the people involved being misleading/lying. on principle, that should annoy him and only give him reason to gloat about people who make up all this "ghost" evidence
I agree with Shane it was likely a man and a dog upstairs. BUT If the roles were reversed, and Ryan used a few seconds of a video from a few years back, and a comment from a poster on reddit, would Shane accept that as evidence? I think not.
If you were told that you would be alone, and then were not alone, they put you in danger. You were in the dark without any expectations of needing to be wary of another person or animal lurking. That’s really scary.
I agree, this is the only ghost hunter platform I watch/take seriously. I’ll watch other stuff and they go so deep into the theatrics that it’s obvious they take even a gust of winds evidence. But being willing to debunk something that means you’re not just trying to get clicks.
Considering they did an investigation, the Sorrel should've been transparent about who or what was upstairs. I believe they lied by omission on the caretaker and dog because when I visited they said jack shit about it other than it's a fire Hazard.. that makes sense for regular tours however this was a ghost investigation in a space they rented out. So I definitely agree that this was unprofessional on their part
Ryan’s hella valid for his anger. Ghost hunting isn’t just a small hobby it’s a passion and a job. People not taking it seriously has got to sting. I really appreciate him making sure that what we see is the truth.
@@AngryDad. let me just match ur childish behavior ig. I’m gonna block u and get the last word cuz why not. Just know I never left you just can’t contact me. Bye hater go cry.
If they do keep a dog on the second floor then they are ruining and wasting all paranormal hunters time. All the sounds an animal and people make when you're trying to capture real evidence is annoying and misleading. It really is just a shame.
Someone else in the comment section found a tripadvisor review from December 2018, in which a group paid to have the place by themselves for an investigation, and what do you know, they heard noises upstairs, asked and they were told there was a caretaker. They mentioned hearing tiny footsteps, and the first guide told them it could've been a ghost. Next day, another guide told them about the dog. They felt scammed and honestly they were. The only evidence they had came from the dog.
Man, people get silly when it comes to ghosts and aliens. I think Shane is dead on when he says, "There is no professionalism in these places". If that top floor somehow deteriorated that badly in the span of two years, and it's condemned, how are you going to let people walk around on the floor BELOW it with the risk of collapse on to people? What does the local Fire Marshal say about it?
I'm sure there's some waiver signing involved in almost every location. I've had to sign waivers just going to visit those old houses they make into historical reenactment attractions.
In the After Dark podcast Professor Tiya Miles discussed how she investigated the stories told during the Sorrel-Weed house tour and found that they were historically inaccurate - including the suicide mentioned in the original video.
Actually, I really like that Shane is researching a little bit. To be honest they have been in some sketchy locations whit probably falls history like Bobby Mackie's.
I found a 1 star review someone left on trip advisor January 2019 (youtube wouldn't let me link it) after going to the Sorrel Weed house in December 2018! Sounds like there was probably miscommunication between the Sorrel Weed staff. Ryan is so valid to be angry about it! Other comments mentioned this, but regardless of the location it does become a film set the second you guys show up, and should be treated as such. The owners should be disclosing whether or not anyone is going to be on site during the shoot, and better yet, have them leave if possible (security obviously can't but surely there's work arounds?)
Ryan is 100% the Fox Mulder of Watcher. ❤ 💯💯💯 The truth is out there Ryan! Its just not always want we thought/ wanted. 😂😂 This was a good episode. hope yall are having a great spooky season! Also so happy to hear Obi is doing well! ❤❤ May he out live us all. 🌹
I know you guys wanted to be funny. But I think yall were a little unfair to Ryan here. Dude is legitimately passionate about this. He was definitely lied to. He has every right to be furious about that and the asylum
Okay, but here’s another thing. We’re talking about this a LONG while after the video was put on TH-cam. Why didn’t a member of Sorrel Weed staff reach out to the guys and explain after watching the video? Why didn’t they ask them to edit the video with a note of what the dog sound likely was? THAT feels really shady to me and a demonstration of their integrity.
I was told on a tour with the Sorrel Weed staff that the Buzzfeed staff were told about the care taker and the dog. She stated she isn’t sure why they were not honest in the episode they aired on TV.
I'm glad y'all talked about the dog 🤣 but I want to hear what you have to say about the amount of fake evidence by the owners in the Haunted Hill House. I'm a Boogara but those sounds were being played on a speaker or something epecially the growl.
This! I'm concerned with how defensive he was at the beginning of going through the dog situation at Sorrel, that he won't be willing to look at the Hill House "evidence" with a reasonable lense.
@caitlinstanley8329 I'm such a Boogara but things like this give us a bad name 😂 the dog thing doesn't bother me because at this point I think Ryan is joking. I can't believe he thinks everything at Hill House was real. It was too much.
@purpledragon3545 I would hope so, but in the debrief for the Hill House he "took it as a compliment that we would accuse them of faking evidence, which proved how great the evidence was that they found." He had the chance to have a real conversation around the Hill House evidence, and instead, he brushed off the fans' concerns.
It’s rly not that serious to say someone should’ve said there was a dog whether they forgot to or not they know they should’ve. They didn’t. Like it’s literally not that serious that that WAS the staffs responsibility
I fully support Ryan. Just for safety reasons alone- you can’t leave a DOG upstairs unattended while you know people are renting out the building, and not tell them?? That seems like it could go bad.
I'm at 38:35 - Also for safety, it's better to tell people if there's a strange unattended animal on site ToT Like that could break bad for allergies, nervous dog, any number of things. It's good they didn't go upstairs during the investigation.
Gotta admit I thought the (emotional) was clickbaity but indeed listening to this ep brought up many emotions lol. I admire Ryan for thinking people would not lie or omit truths when investigating on locations, that's a lot of trust to put in people who run a for profit business. But again I admire the integrity and trying to make a honest show in a world of fake evidence.
what you're suggesting is like going to a restaurant and assuming someone washes their hands after going to the bathroom is somehow naive. i know you don't want to communicate that but that's how to it comes off: patronizing. especially given how the entire episode both Matt and Shane made Ryan look like an idiot exactly for this. he is assuming that the property would be empty not that it's filled with ghosts. the owners can believe whatever they want, but if you get paid by GF for a shoot and also get free publicity from them, it's 100% their responsibility to make sure there are no pets on the property. who cares about some random caretaker? if he can't not bring his dog to the property then find another caretaker who doesn't have this issue if you run a business. if they know this and dont disclose it then they're actively lying and breaching basic social/business contract which is what he tried to convey for good 15 minutes while Shane running laps around Ryan and gaslighting him into thinking it was his fault they paid >10k to have some house empty for a shoot. is it really that weird to assume this? surely you don't think so.
@@rainiwakura2430 Sorry I did not mean to sound like that nor do I know things about filiming and contracts that are signed beforehand as I don't work in the same industry. I wanted to have a broader perspective of Ryan trusting that the property owners of a haunted house will not also "spice up" a location to make it more haunted by fake sounds or having a real dog so the ghost dog evidence would make sense. I think Ryan is the only one there who thinks people wouldn't do such a thing, while the others know that people will do everything to make things more marketable even by faking evidence. I agree that's shitty if they do.
@@pomeloiki no worries I was too aggro, but there is a lot of Ryan bashing in the comments lately so the backlash has been just as energetic. So for your actual argument then, I don't really know if Ryan thinks so, because they have been instances where he acknowledged it by cutting Shane off before he could say. Kind of the opposite of this ep. The issue with stuff like this is that you basically make yourself legally liable by directly accusing these owners of fraud on record. I also don't know if the focus on these glorified houses of attractions is his doing, producers' decision, or just most convenient option (probably this). I would prefer if they went to actual abandoned properties and/or larger spots like Montana prison or Waverly Hills. However, multiple times they've suggested they hated the experience and wouldn't do any sleepovers. They're married and in their 30s so it is natural for them to think so. It's unfortunate but they have to choose these boring places because you can book them in advance, they already offer straightforward process for shoots and guarantee you safety of the crew and relative cleanliness. So my point is that they know and they can't really call it out lest other locations bar them from entry, thus losing easy access. The UK episodes of this season should be better because locations are ancient and are interesting in themselves. I actually would go on a limb and suggest that it's this preference for places like this that makes show boring to so many people until this season lol. The reason this conversation even happened I suspect is because Haunted Hill (s03e01) made a negative splash because of the blatant fakery by owners and Shane decided it was good time to telegraph that they're willing to call it out, but in a way where Ryan gets the blame.
@@unrealtalks7242 there’s “evidence” to suggest the owners of the building were messing with them and using some kind of device to make noises/voices. There’s videos of other TH-camrs who’ve heard similar stuff. Plus the voice Ryan heard sounds like it came out of a speaker.
Listening to this, I could only wonder how Ryan feels now about the entire comment section on the debrief of Hill House being like, yeah you guys were tricked, the whole thing is a wash...This has been such an incredibly eventful kickoff to Watcherween 2024....
I think that they didn't say anything about a dog and potentially a person upstairs is because it's much easier to say 'yeah it's condemned don't go there' than explain that it's a living space and potentially ruin all evidence by someone saying 'well it's not a ghost it's that guy upstairs'
I completely support Ryan here, and I genuinely love you Shane, but i don't think you were being very fair in this episode at all to Ryan. He genuinely works so hard and it felt like he wasn't being taken seriously at all :(
I have to say this episode didn't feel good and I think both Shane and Matt missed the mark this time around. (emotional) and (dogpiling) are two different things. you can't claim to debunk something and blame Ryan for lack of foresight at the same time given the "evidence" that Shane tries to use. If presence of a LARGE dog was such a known factor to make it implausible that it wasn't there the night you guys did an investigation then you CANNOT in the same breath claim that whoever worked at Sorrel House and did NOT DISCLOSE this fact did so because they didn't know or made a human error. By the same probabilistic token it's extremely unlikely that person who told Ryan that it was off-limits because it was haunted/forbidden didn't know that the dog was there. So whatever the reason, they did mislead Ryan. Thus he cant be blamed for not assuming there is a large dog in there. Because to do so would mean he didn't trust that person in the first place which undermines the conceit of an "investigation". I'm sure you guys don't go to these places with the intention of showing that these owners are jackasses that lie and that the paranormal is total BS. It likely is BS but I doubt you guys are so cynical. Moreover, to say that the onus is on Ryan to be exact in his definition of an "empty" house or to list all his requirements for investigation is ridiculous. It's just not humanly possible to predict what things might be in the house in general, but if a place is marketed as haunted it's reasonable to expect it to be empty and to lack animals within. Why would anyone in the right mind assume there is a huge canine in there? That's just not normal by any convention. If you guys went to a dog kennel maybe that'd make sense. But if you go to an alleged haunted house specifically rented for these experiences you'd assume there is a level of professionalism in ensuring nothing is on the premises that might disturb guests even if the owners know the place is just gathering dust and there are no ghosts. If it wasn't a dog but a homeless person would it be reasonable not to know about them living there and manage the property? Also, you can't do doublethink and somehow snidely suggest that these owners are most often dishonest and then somehow suggest Ryan was at fault here for immediately assuming Sorrel people lied to him. It's either one or the other. Usually Ryan is the unreasonable one because he tends to embrace the ridiculous and emotional aspects very quickly and play it up, but as it stands Shane just got scared of the implications of his own statements where Ryan logically assumed the owners must have known there is a dog huge enough to make that noise inhabiting their house. As Ryan said Shane got scared they'd would face the wrath of the owners and gaslit Ryan, who tends to take blame to a fault sometimes, into thinking he said something untoward about these people. That's ofc is a reasonable fear but then why even post this vid if that danger is present? Content is king I guess. I don't doubt there was nothing paranormal about Sorrel House but it doesn't mean that it was that immediately obvious or that it's Ryan's fault he takes owners at face value. Anyway, I'm one of your guys' biggest champions online (given recent ahem events) because I know you're all good intentioned-ish people (parasocial to a fault here, but I have my intuitions about others in my normal life which are usually not wrong, so I doubt I misread you guys watching since 2017, which doesn't mean I consider my online follows my friends or somebody Id get beer with lmao) but it doesn't feel good to tune it to a presumably "comfort zone" content only to find some kinda Amazon warehouse style drilling of the employees for not doing their job properly lol. I have no clue what kind of relationship Ryan, Shane, and Matt have IRL and whether it's normal for them, but it definitely doesn't seem normal from the outside, since this is posted for watchers (lol) to watch. From what Steven alluded to it seemingly is normal during staff meetings, but idk, is it suitable for a podcast where there is a potential to humiliate each other in front of strangers (us) to no benefit? Frankly speaking I get enough of this shit at work lol, but whateverr, it's a one off and it's your own damn channel so you obviously can post as you please. I'm repeating myself a lot here, but I just wanted to support Ryan because I know you guys read these comments and he might see this!
Regarding the Dog in the Sorrel-Weed House: Ryan's problem here is that he takes "You can't go up there" from the owners/keepers/directors of the Sorrel-Weed House as meaning it's literally uninhabitable, falling apart, no human being can go up there. They just didn't want you going up there. "It's condemned, you might fall through the floors" deters curious visitors more than a sign and a rope cutting off a location would. It's like telling a waiter you're allergic to mushrooms when you really just don't like them.
You guys should call them and ask about the dog! I’d be interested to hear their side of the story - if it was a genuine mistake/miscommunication they might be able to shed some light on it. As someone who has worked at a local tourist attraction before, communication between management and different staff teams is often not great so I can see how that could happen without anyone deliberately lying. Also if that video Shane brought up is from two years before then you never know, it could be a ~ghoooost dog~
Ryan, it’s LeeAnn. I was one of the many people who got up to the mic to talk to you guys at GF live at the Chevalier theater in Medford, MA. If you’ll recall, I asked you about the Sorrel-Weed house and said that there was probably a person and a dog up there, and possibly a trap door/passageway that could account for your FBA. You PROMISED me that you’d go back. Don’t you dare let them get you down. Go back and ask them directly about the dog/possibly the owner that chills there. And if they lie to you, then walk your ass up those stairs and find out for yourself. Break the door down if you have to. Good luck, brother 🫡
It’s unfortunate that we’ll probably never get to hear which places specifically they think were shady because of libel lawsuits or them getting iced out of future locations.
As someone from Georgia it’s crazy I’ve never been to the Sorrel Weed House cause I live so close to Savannah. I’m a shaniac but I still love historical places.
I don’t think it even matters why there at a place to film something, ghost hunting related or not, it’s ridiculous not to tell someone if there’s a person living in the place your renting to film??!?
As someone who worked at Sorrel, yes there is a man who lives up stairs. I don't believe he lives there anymore, but I was told to tell people that the upstairs is a 'fire hazard,' however the caretaker would often show up and walk upstairs while I was giving a tour. It got to a point where, if we heard footsteps upstairs, I just told people who was living upstairs. Sorrel has a fascinating history and some unexplained activity, but I didn't want to lie to our guests and claim they were really hearing a ghost.
So the owners/managers did intentionally spread a lie? Also, thank you for being honest with people.
@IamaKaliedoscope it probably is a fire hazard though since it's one way up one way down
@@IamaKaliedoscope Not everyone agreed with the suggestions, so I know other guides were honest with people.
@@Sorrelweedhouse Appreciate that! I still loved my time at Sorrel and always visit whenever I’m back in Savannah!
I appreciate that Ryan is so dedicated to not faking evidence that he gets pissed at other people faking or tainting evidence in the places he visits. Ryan's sincerity is a huge draw for the appeal of the show, to me!
As a #shaniac it IS a huge draw that Ryan is so dedicated because finding true evidence would be amazing!
Completely agree, i dont even watch other ghost content, just his
Exactly!!! Because even in the most recent ep it’s never been *any* doubt of them, only the locations
I understand that but it's kind of ridiculous for him to assert a reddit comment is less credible than half of the crap he claims as "ghost evidence" both on watcher and BUN.

@@reidmonninger1110I mean the ghost dog is probably just another dog…

"Just ask them" as if they're gonna be like "aw shucks, you caught us!" Lol
let’s just be honest - ghost files is their #1 show, by a margin. ryan should be really proud

I just wanna say, Shane just immensely helped my research skills with that little tip about searching the transcript of videos!

I'm a Shaniac. But I'm sending hugs to Ryan after this one! You do a good and thorough job... that's very clear!
Exactly!

I love sipping my Monday morning coffee whilst listening to Ryan and Shane argue like a couple that has been married for 20 years, lol

We should have the upper level cleaned up and restored by the end of next year 🎉

Ryan believing it was more likely to be a ghost dog than a real dog is actually insane lol
I take my comment back - Shane got real hypocritical in this conversation lmao. He is being so dismissive and is reminding me of my ex lmao
It's not really a waste though. It's a ghost hunting show. They filmed and created an episode and people watched it. They didn't lose anything.

interesting to hear some investigators return to a location over and over again. it would be so cool if Watcher could find a local LA haunt that they investigate more than once! like go back once a month, for a few months or something, even if for a few hours and compile the evidence to compare to the activity in a one-night investigation

Shane's attitude in this episode was really off-putting. I hate when people throw a bomb and then act like no one should be upset about it.
"didn't do his job" 😭 oof maybe take on equal responsibility
The constant undermining of Ryan's intelligence for being a "believer" is so tiring. His passion literally pays your bills.
RIGHT??? like I love the whole team but they were so mean to Ryan this ep. Shane's passions never gets shit on like that!
Ryan: "It's weird they didn't disclose it."
Well, we have to remember these are tourist attractions that rely on people who are interested in ghosts (or history).
Really appreciate the Magnus archives plug- really enjoying it and wouldn’t have known about it otherwise!
I don’t know this was honestly a hard watch I think Shane took it too far. The man is an expert at talking around in circles
"Again with the dog!" Has the same energy as "oy with the poodles already!"
shane be infuriating me rn literally gaslight gatekeep girlbossing
The (emotional) in the title is making me lose it 😂
Considering they did an investigation, the Sorrel should've been transparent about who or what was upstairs.
Tbf ghosts aren't real

The only evidence they had came from the dog.
ooh im not liking how theyre treating ryan in this episode
I agree… what the heck
Man, people get silly when it comes to ghosts and aliens. I think Shane is dead on when he says, "There is no professionalism in these places". If that top floor somehow deteriorated that badly in the span of two years, and it's condemned, how are you going to let people walk around on the floor BELOW it with the risk of collapse on to people? What does the local Fire Marshal say about it?
I'm sure there's some waiver signing involved in almost every location. I've had to sign waivers just going to visit those old houses they make into historical reenactment attractions.
Whoomp, there it is.
Or the more recent ones on Ghost Files.....
Shaniac here and I’m with Ryan on the Sorrel matter. Shane’s just making flimsy excuses. I love your tenacity and passion and ethics for this, Ryan!!!
I think its so good that they are discussing this because it shows they are improving, growing and perfecting their craft. good job guys
May he out live us all. 🌹
I know you guys wanted to be funny. But I think yall were a little unfair to Ryan here. Dude is legitimately passionate about this. He was definitely lied to. He has every right to be furious about that and the asylum
Shane's little ad lib whispers in this ep had me laughing so much and I'm only 12 minutes in.
That person that recommended putting the watcher logo on the mail truck had their comment seen!
It's hard to watch what happened here, Ryan's world came crumbling down..I could see tears in his eyes. I don't think Shane expected this outcome.😮
@@caitlinstanley8329 Yeah but we're not accusing them of faking it. I'm accusing the owners lol
@purpledragon3545 precisely, he wasn't willing to actually hear the fans' comments.
Credibility is seeping out of a hole in your pocket...Matt, I'm going to have to borrow that.
I'm at 38:35 - Also for safety, it's better to tell people if there's a strange unattended animal on site ToT Like that could break bad for allergies, nervous dog, any number of things. It's good they didn't go upstairs during the investigation.
You didn’t waste your time, you made content. It’s fun
I’m gonna need someone to put together all of the lazy acres updates and just keep it going because this is very important
This podcast makes me look forward to Mondays. ❤
Excited to see this episode after you mentioned it on Debreif!
"Conversely, doesn't that make you feel good about the Hill House?" Oh damn 💀💀💀
I laughed a bit too hard at that 🤣
Hopefully they address that soon lmao
@@frenchbaguetteouiI don’t get it. What happened with hill house?
Missed opportunity: that’s too many bears
I'm repeating myself a lot here, but I just wanted to support Ryan because I know you guys read these comments and he might see this!
to long didn't read
Love to eat pumpkin pie like pizza, just slice by slice in my bare hands
🥧🎉👏
i also feel bad for the dog wth 😭 left alone for long periods of time sounds lonely 😢
😂😂😂😂😂 you're living in fantasy movie land lunatic
they responded to in the comments, there is no need for him to go anymore actually.
The way I thought everyone (including Ryan) knew that was a real dog this whole damn time lol.
shane kinda doing the intentionally obtuse thing at nauseum on this one
It’s unfortunate that we’ll probably never get to hear which places specifically they think were shady because of libel lawsuits or them getting iced out of future locations.
As someone from Georgia it’s crazy I’ve never been to the Sorrel Weed House cause I live so close to Savannah. I’m a shaniac but I still love historical places.
I don’t think it even matters why there at a place to film something, ghost hunting related or not, it’s ridiculous not to tell someone if there’s a person living in the place your renting to film??!?
okay now do the hill house 💀
