A Toy Story - My honest review of Behringer's JT-4000 Micro!

- You know me as a courteous, friendly and understanding person. OK, any of that.
That's why I've held back quite a bit when it comes to reviewing devices if I wasn't convinced by them. The only exception so far was the Zoom 4K camera, which was just so terrible that I didn't want to keep it to myself. I don't even want to talk about devices that are sent to me in the hope that I will rate them well and then be allowed to keep them. There were a few. Maybe I'll make a video about it sometime.
Whatever.
Since Berhinger's Mini and Micro series is currently the only hope for me as a dawless musician who primarily produces single gear jams, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a video about it. Since I didn't want to produce a series, everything had to go into this one video. Result: It's almost 1.5 hours long. Whats wrong with me?
I politely ask for your forgiveness.
So that you can find important places again, I have created chapters for you.

In the video I talk, among other things, about the template that I built to reroute the CC's from the MicroFreak to the CC's of the JT-4000.
You can find the template here: patchstorage.com/microfreak-c...
Technique used:
Behringer JT-4000
MicroFreak
MIDIHUB by Blokas blokas.io/midihub/
Tascam Field Recorder
Specular Reverb v3 by GFI System
As always, I welcome your input, opinions and support. Let's just talk constructively about the JT-4000 in the comments. Say what you think.
Many greetings and all the best

Most of the Time I am using the Specular Reverb v3 for my jams.
Sometimes the NTS-1 with the Cathedral Preset or just the iPad. - เพลง
I bought one, sampled some supersaw stabs into koala sampler on my ipad. Loaded some drum samples .Made this dubstep groove. Exported it as an ableton set. Added a trance bassline with Spire. After spending an hour's making patches I then wrote a supersaw riff with the JT4000 and recorded thet as audio into Ableton. Ended up writing one of the best tracks ive made for ages! Yes. I love the jT4000. It doesn't sound identical to rhe jp8000, but sounds great in its own right. The analog filter and 12bit dac give it a fat retro character, almost like a JP8000 had a baby with the a Juno or Jupiter. It certainly fits well in the mix, takes front stage but doesn't sound too in ya face. It has limitations yes, but limitations are good. Ive made patches that explore those limitations. If i hadnt bought the JP4000, i would not of written the track. Definitely worth £49 for that alone. I now have a personal relationship with the JT4000 that I don't get with plugins that do everything.
Only issue. It looks tiny next to my Neutron and TD3! 😂
I've been wanting someone to review the jt4000 for so long and finally you made my wish come true
Oh your welcome. Appreciate your feedback
This looks just like those tiny toy pianos that you could buy as a birthday card back in the 80s (if you remember those). But it sounds much better!
Yeah your right... I remember those things.
Hi Volca big thanks, to your question about the star on the JT-4000. When you make any changes to the sound your working in any form the ⭐ will appear to let you know or should i say press select to save your preset. Which is very useful when you create a great sound and want to use it at a later stage or another time. Hope this helps and thanks for helping me 💯⭐👍
Oh thank you very much 🥰
Mate you have a great sound recorder. I laughed at the asmr comment. 😂. It's a great little synth with old skool programming ways.
Mine is quite fun. I control it from a Keystep via a Kenton MIDI USB Host.
Playing through reverb pedal, my wife actually looked up and said “that sounds nice” instead of “that’s going straight through me”, like usual.
Uhhh that's a good Sign, if your wife likes it. 👍😊
what does "that's going straight through me" mean?
@@schmapps1think nails on a blackboard. Horrible screeching noises.
Was wondering about this thing.
Thanks for the review.
It is smaller than expected, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
No it isn't. It sounds nice that is important.
Thanks for this
It's a fantastic synth. Buying 2 next week when I get my money.
Can't believe how far technology has moved on. I don't mind menu diving. Been used to it on many synths over the years. Especially the Casio CZ 5000. If you can maintain it the sounds you can produce are definitely worth it
Great to hear. Have fun being creative
Cool synth. Doesn't sound like a JP to me though, close but not really. especially since one of the best things of the JP is the sequenced patches. And I didn't hear a supersaw that did it right, some nice timbres regardless. And if that CC page issue is a real issue and isn't fixed, I wouldn't call it a deal killer because of the price, but it's a major bummer. Thx for the in-depth demonstration. Will still pick a couple up, but now don't feel like my real JP's have been replaced (yet). I think Sunrizer on iOS does a good job though, arguably better than the JT.
Do you have the new TE K.O 2 on the way..
No I haven't.
So you try to convert midicc numbers sent from freak to a fixed number in the jt , so the jt numbers are fixed and so are the freak , well then simple use a midi keyboard where you can assign the cc you want to a knob instead of fixed.
Yeah that's the other way.
I got mine as welll, I haven’t had been able to play with it much since the last leg operation. But it works great in AUM. When you have control over the CC it’s much less a toy! Maybe because X Touch is also Behringer , I don’t know, so far that’s all I’ve been able to do, but everything is there to make it work! When I get upstairs I’ll run it thru the Deepmind 12 because of all the control and effects. The lower end one was only $199 not on sale, and does everything I would want, I am going to get the $500 one soon!thats the X Touch not Deepmind 12 lol. Do you always use the Microfreak for the controller? I have never tried it that way, I like the keystep pro and regular one. It depends what I’m doing! I want a 100 percent portable rig right now so if in the hospital or just down stairs I can do something, I I the smallest pc in the world, literally! I have heard I can use my harddrive with Komplete on it between the two systems.
Wishing you all the best my friend. get well soon
Peels offs still in place, enough said 👍
Thanks Volca! Great review!
Hey, thank you so much for your feedback.
You should def try Rezopad and 1984 by Van Halen
I will
Configurable. 😉
English is tricky enough even for we English folk, so don't be too worried about pronunciation.
Thanks my friend.
it's so much smaller in person
Well, it depends on how small hands you have. Trump would be happy with that size.
Gerne mehr reviews... ich würdw mich auch mal über "Tracks from scratch" mit diversen Geräten freuen. Gruss aus süd korea. Habe den J6 S1 und T8 dabei ❤
Grüsse zurück. Ist notiert.
I dare you to make 31 jams in #jamuary on this toy alone ;-)
What a wonderful idea
Please no, you can do better than that@@Volcaniced
Hard pass. Tooooo tiny
No midi in:( USB doesn't count cuz then you need a computer in the chain 😢
Sounds nice but I can't use it with my midi keyboard unless I run it thru Ableton, so unfortunately that'll be a deal breaker for me
Absolutely agree...
Yep... how cool would it be to have this and any stablemates linked to a midi master keyboard... No MIDI = unusable for me; USB? Might as well just use a VST.
@@cnfuzz link to whatever you are talking about please? Also does that mean I need to be tethered to a phone charger that's plugged in? That would be inconvenient.
@@cnfuzz doing everything you said is inconvenient. Id prefer a 3.5 port
I was so tempted by this to use with my Circuit but you're absolutely right - no actual midi makes it pointless without a PC. Having cables out of the top sucks as well.
Hard pass after watching this.
