how much force can the arm apply? I wonder if it could position a 1.5 lb bucking bar for aircraft riveting? did you buy the parts kit? how much you figure spent to get it all working?
I am having trouble finding geared stepper motors I have nema 17 and all but planetary gear box is an issue ... Is there any alternative to this or where can I get

Good start, you can 3d print a kinematic lock instead of flat walls for the mating surface. Can also make it lockable by rotation .
