Oh god, I just realized something about the Heartbreak pond.
You would think you would find Fairies at the Lovers pond because, fairies, but maybe the reason they are at the Heartbreak pond is because people are known to become suicidal over break ups.
People go to the Heartbreak pond to kill themselves due to loss of their relationship, and the fairies revive them to give them another chance. Maybe after killing themselves, their grief is healed and they are then “reborn” to move on to then find new happiness.
Or may Fairies are good antidepressants, Idk.

    • @BoojieD
      @BoojieD ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@thetubbs99 Yes, I don't think the devs put much thought into it, but if we're looking to assign a head-canonical reason ourselves (as is the case with many "Zelda theory" videos), then I think it still makes a lot of sense. Ever seen a statue or illustration of a Greek god? I said "story," but that doesn't mean the citizens of Hyrule have to acknowledge it as a purely fictitious story. It's a legend, which we can assume they'd believe is true in either a literal or half-literal sense. As for putting Darmani next to a recently living being like Daruk, I don't really see the problem. They're next to each other. That doesn't really imply anything, other than that they're both great Gorons.

And Hyrule rebuilds above, but also *finally* integrates with other cultures to have several new settlements like TerryTown dot this BraveNewHyrule...and us *finally* learning more about races like the Gorons and Zora as they expand their territories to other wetlands and rocklands as well
      Also...the Zonai.
Have them be Alive&Well but a SecretSociety Underground.
(And I’m still saying it makes the most sense for them to be “traditional monsters” and other beast-like races outside the Rito, Zora Tribes (one of which is “monster” despite having their own Sage), and Gorons (who are basically golems))
The various ‘Blins have all had their own societies in all Tribes&Games (including NPC Moblins in Zelda1)...and c’mon. The so-called Zonai Made barbarian set...is the Bokoblin Aesthetic?!

Golums’ traditional depiction is pottery men, but like any mythology is expanded into other materials, typically rock but sometimes metal or wood. And for the Zelda-Verse, I’d say getting created by the Goddess Fayore along with all other life fills the Holy Words requirement.

@@Kaatze14 It makes sense if the rock formation prior to the 8th statue didn't allow for the statue and sword to be carved as one piece. The space beneath the hands could have been a cave all along, so they had to make the sword somewhere else and later transport it to the statue, which obviously failed for some reason. Or while trying to move the 8th over to the other 7. If that were the case, it would make sense to try and move the sword first.

hey zeltik I had a thought that might make for an interesting video, have you ever noticed the way each village treats their respective goddess statues? I thought it would be cool if you analyzed how each race prioritizes their goddess statue, for example the kakariko hold her in the highest esteem (with japanese symbolism such as the red bib and water) while the gerudo just have her in some back alley. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they used to worship the colossus? Also the goddess statue is the first thing you see when entering rito village, and shes adorned with flowers in a very western-style tribute, whereas the sheikah , who are coded to be japanese, place her in front of their leaders house and surrounded by torches in a pond. Just a thought :) Happy new year~

This is more true with Star Wars movies. They go all over the place and you can’t make any sense of it and they don’t answer any long unanswered questions.
While I would have believed this to be true for most any video game the closer I look at BOTW the more I’m impressed by the attention to detail. I beat BOTW a long time ago and overlooked a lot of landmarks and references until recently. Now I’m impressed with the game all over again because I’m just realizing they actually tied all the games together into BOTW so it doesn’t feel like previous storylines never happened. Now I’m re-exploring the game all over again. This is why BOTW is the greatest game of all time since it is so replayable and it looks like everything was placed for a reason. I wish other game makers had the same quality level of games.

Ok, I actually have a theory about the legend of the Eight Heroines.
It's actually a Gerudo misrememberance of the events of Ocarina of Time. The Heroine Statues are all marked 'SEVEN SAGES' and their 'crests' are all seemingly Gerudo stylizations of the symbols of the Sage Medallions.
The implication is the Gerudo have, over time, forgotten exactly who the Sages were and thus just assumed they were Gerudo. This is supported by the legend claiming the Heroines saved the world and all the aforementioned.
The Eighth Heroine was NEVER with the others, and likewise NEVER had a sword. If you notice, both sword and statue aren't constructed like the others, but carved from the stone right where they are.
This is to represent that the Eighth Heroine left her sword planted in the stone and departed from the others.
Sound familiar? It's what LINK did at the end of OOT. He laid down the Master Sword to rest and departed on his search for Navi. Likewise, if the Hero's Shade from TP is in fact OOT Link, then he was never recognized as a hero... and the Eighth Heroine is all but forgotten, unlike the rest.
I believe the Eighth Heroine represents none other than LINK, while the others represent the Seven Sages and their abilities.

Great theory just one small hole, that would be a real world explanation but not in universe. How would the Gerudo know about Link putting the Master Sword back down? I mean Link would might have told Zelda that and maybe she might have told her father that but I can't see it going farther then that. The vid was basically trying to give explanations that were in universe. Your theory, which I can totally get behind, just makes it a clever easter egg and that didn't seem to be his intent with this video

  • @One-ct3xe
    @One-ct3xe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +87

The eighth heroine and her sword are likely a nod to the twilight princess, or to be more exact to Midna. It's also possible that the statue and sword were warped into place by the same means seen in twilight princess, maybe to be moved from harm's way or for some unknown purpose by the Twili. Maybe the Calamity reverberated across all the dimensions of Hyrule's world, and the statue was warped as a result of uncontrolled Twili magic. Do you think that the realms of Twilight, Termina, Lorule, and the Dark world all experienced the Calamity simultaneously in some capacity? I do.

10:12 my theory for this is simply that OoT/MM Link retold his adventures, and they became a sort of legend or myth among the Gorons down the line. It's worth remembering that TP Link is a direct descendant of OoT Link, meaning OoT Link likely told his children about his adventures, and then that extended to the children of the village, and eventually became a widespread legend. This Kakariko seem to have more handmade and Sheikah style buildings. Could they have moved and suddenly Sheikah were not extinct anymore?(Maybe that Sheikah in the hidden village in TP continued the tribe?) Kakariko Village in TP was Also in a deep trench which definitely would be dangerous for flooding. So the thing with the Gorons and termina, the doppelgangers go both ways. Termina has copies of Hyrule's inhabitants, and Hyrule has copies of Termina's. Of course, the lives (and lifespans) of each set's counterparts varies, as some Hyrule residents are never found in Termina (as they may have passed away sooner than their counterpart, or perhaps exist in a slightly offset chronological period, or simply reside in areas outside of the scope of the playable areas as the maps always indicte a larger globe than the landmass the playable map covers), and vice-versa.
It would stand to reason that some characters who, to players, appeared to be new in Termina, simply had not been encountered yet in Hyrule. Note: Tingle was first encountered in Termina, yet layer made his player-visible debute in Hyrule during Wind Waker at a chronologically offset point. Just because you've only encountered someone in Termina doesn't mean they lack a doppelganger in Hyrule, you may simply have not yet encountered them in that dimension and it's just a matter of time.

Personally I think removing the statue but not destroying it is related to Egyptian superstition. If you defaced a statue of a dead person, they lose part or all of their soul in the afterlife. It might have been moved to prevent others from defacing it, or to put her in a place where she couldn't be glorified like the other heroes, but it wasn't destroyed out of respect. I think it may have something to do with the Yiga because the statue is close to their territory. Maybe the eighth heroine married a member of the Yiga clan.

I had a thought about the seven heroines (though someone has probably theorized this before). I was thinking that they are the Seven Sages from OOT, but due to the story being passed down through the gerudo tribe for so long, the story changed from seven people from different races to seven gerudo heroines. And the eighth “heroine” is actually the hero of time, forgotten due to time travel or something. And the missing sword could represent him giving up the master sword. I know there’s a lot of holes in this theory and it may not make perfect sense lore-wise, but it’s a neat connection that’s either intentional or a hell of a coincidence

For the water being clear, I'll say that the reason must be how far from the Calamity's Malice it is, it certainly wasn't touched by it :)

As someone who started playing Breath of the Wild last month for the first time, I'm amazed by the sense of history in the world. There's ruins dotted all over it from different cultures, it feels like even before the Calamity, the world was covered in ruins and temples from other civilisations that fell, rose and fell again. But two mysteries stick out to me:
The first were the scaffolding, bridges and paths on the islands near Akkala (Tingel Island). Who built all these bridges and scaffolding? Who took all the wood there and built these structures across the ravines. There's a destroyed farmhouse near the bridge, I got this sense some lonely hermit built all this stuff but why? The second mystery for me was the Hebra Leviathan Skeleton. How did that one end up under a mountain, behind a tiny door? Did part of a cave system cave in and trap it underground somehow? The other two skeletons are outside in Gerudo and Eldin, so I feel like all three leviathans might have been alive at the same time. Were the leviathans dragons? Giant lizards?
Aside from that, some of the deactivated guardians are in odd places. Some in the snowfields of Hebra, the grasses of Akkala, the beaches of Lurelin - it makes me wonder just what was occurring here to draw the Guardians over.

    • @Mr.Slinky
      @Mr.Slinky 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Tingel island was probably built by Tingle, a character who appears in multiple Zelda games. We don’t see him here but I reckon those bridges were built by him or somebody who worships him. If you haven’t played any other Zelda games I recommend that you try Majoras mask or wind waker. Tingle is in both of those games

I think the heartbreak pond could be a reference to Undertale. The mountain Frisk falls down is Mt Ebon, the same name as the mountain that pond is found on. Hearts are some big imagery found in Undertale, so it’s not unlikely a broken heart (which is used when you die) could be used as a reference.

So what we’re looking for when it comes to the eighth heroine is:
Something tied to the gerudo or their region
Someone or something that can move large objects halfway across the world
And someone who would have a grudge against the gerudo or atleast a specific member
Given the arbiters grounds in twilight princess are links with both gerudo and twili
And we have an established ability of the twili that fits the bill in the form of midnas ability to portal stuff like a bridge or a statue around.
I think it’s fair to guess that a twili might have spurned the eighth heroine for some slight against their people.

What location from Twilight Princess can we find in BotW's Gerudo Desert?
What was atop this said location?
      What was in there?
      Who was in there?
Well I like to think the statue is a representation of Midna, a heroine forgotten in time that lives in a realm trapped in a mirror, a realm where teleportation is normal. Since Midna was the sidekick of Link during that adventure, wouldn't that make sense they make a statue to her effigy? The sword could be the representation that our realm is out of reach or is simply disconnected from their realm like the scattered pieces of the mirror we must gattered.
Dunno, Might overthink it too much but hey, the games like "Here's something, make whatever you want of it!"

Here is my theory on the Statue of the Eight Heroine. What if the statue is just another of the seven that was being constructed. Think of the two big statues in the first Lord of the ring films. The statue is just a marker, that beyond this point is gerudo lands and the seven Heroines protect these lands.
To back this up, if you look east of the Statue of the Eight Heroine on a map, beetween Mystathi's Shelf and Cliffs of Ruvara you can see what looks like workers scaffolding. Maybe here is where they were carving out a second statue. And if we keep going along the borders of gerudo lands there could be places where the rest of the statues could fit.
This was just a quick thought of mine, but maybe it helps spread a new light on the Eight Heroine mystery.
Anyway love the content, keep it up.

My theory is that the giant skull in the middle of the Bottomless Swamp is actually that of a former incarnation of Ganon. From the top down, both the eyes and head shape closely resemble the SNES sprite, granted the 'horns' on the Ganon sprite are actually his pig ears, but in OoT when Ganondorf transforms into Ganon for the final battle, he DOES have a pair of forward curving horns. The other detail that leads me to believe this is the bottom jaw they mentioned in the video being unlike that of Volvagia, but would suit the boar-like upward facing tusks most incarnations of Ganon have. Another fun detail is the fact that you'll always find a Knight's Greatsword implanted in the top of the giant skull as well. Perhaps either a nod to the finishing blow often dealt to the King of Evil.

The Darmani and Elder's Son statue, two lakes around Zora's Domain being named Mikau and Lulu, the actual in-game description of Majora's Mask saying it's "a mask passed down from ancient times", the Tingle armor set existing in the game, and now Hyrule Historia saying that the mask *transforms the world* into Termina (it does not say that Termina is a hallucination in the Skull Kid's mind, it says that the mask transformed the existing world, or at least a part of it, into Termina): all of this is IMO direct evidence that Termina actually, physically existed and wasn't "a dream" or "Link actually died and Termina is Limbo" or something. It could have been just part of the Lost Woods that got terraformed, since Link was shown reaching Termina through the Lost Woods, and the Lost Woods is also where the Skull Kid lives, and in both OoT and MM we never really see the full extent of the Lost Woods, so it could be theoretically possible to hide a whole dang civilization in there (or the Woods could house a portal to a parallel world, which is a plot device used in several other Zelda games re: Twilight Princess, A Link Between Worlds)

Really cool video, I’d like to see more!
It’s so amazing that BotW is filled with so many mysterious locations that don’t seem to have any explanation and what I like most about them is that almost all of them give you no special reward, when you find them you would expect to get something important, for example when you get to the bottomless swamp you’d expect to get some important item or something but no, you can just get some basic rewards, simple weapons and rare stones you can get everywhere, and that’s what’s so cool about them, they’re just here to make you think about their origin, the reward is finding them and theorizing about their significance...
And although this video and others covering the same subject are really cool, I’m happy I found these sites myself while playing first, because it’s much more fun to discover them yourself than being told where and what they are

Theory: the eighth heroine was some character who the goddesses trusted, just like they trusted the seven sages of ocarina of time to take down ganondorf who the heroines in breath of the wild probably represent, but this character wronged the goddesses in some way so they used their godly powers to physically move the statue commemorating this character to where we find it. Maybe this character succumbed to hatred and turned their back on the goddesses, and maybe they will be an antagonist in botw2?? Maybe they are the reason ganondorf is returning; they could be the one reviving him, and they started the calamity when they began the process of bringing the demon king back.

The only debatable time is the Great Flood (which could just as easily have been a Triforce wish gone awry). So for all powerful supreme beings whose last solution to a problem was to flood the entire world to stoop to the level of moving mortal works of art cause someone displeased them seems very petty. That’s a much more mortal thing to do than it is a divine thing.

Seeing as it is theorized that the Twili may have been Hylian or possibly even Sheikahn before their banishment, is it possible that Twili magic is responsible for the removal of the 8th Heroine?

Theory: Since Termina is a parallel world where the Giants mask and the 4 giants reside maybe there are Hyrulian counterparts.

These little details such as designs in the columns are incredible, it’s apparent that the developers really care about the LoZ world.

10:40 the way you used ‘romance in the air’ for the lovers’ pond and then transitioned into ‘separation’ for the heartbreak pond...nice...i love skyward sword

Something about lover's pond that I have been thinking about for a while now, and before this video I didn't know about heartbreak.
Going off the idea that Lureli (don't remember the name) is based off of Windfall island, then I believe the ponds are at least based off of the fairy fountain you find in the woods.
    1. The two villages have a similar layout and are near a large body of water.
    2. They both have two large mountains behind them.
    3. Fairy fountains/islands are represented by hearts.
    4. There's a fairy fountain in the woods on top of one of Outset's mountains.
    5. Heartbreak pond is one of the few places that has fairies.
I don't know if I'm the only person to make the pond connections to Wind Waker, but I haven't seen anyone else bring them up. Even if Lureli isn't Outset Island's Village, the architecture, large mountains, beach, watch tower, and heart-shaped ponds make me enforce that it's at least Outset inspired. There may be even more connections I haven't picked up on.

It's stated *in the game* that Termina existed before Skull Kid ever put on Majora's Mask. So, uh, it's probably fair to say that that "theory" is not canon, the fact that a lot of Terminian NPCs look exactly like the Hyrulean NPCs goes no deeper than just that the dev team reused existing models to save time, and it's totally likely that Hyruleans other than Link, the Skull Kid, and the Happy Mask Salesman know about Termina's existence. That being said, the statues are probably just an Easter egg and nothing more.
(Although I always interpreted them to be depictions of Daruk at various points of his life, rather than separate individuals.)

TheKinseth I interpret Termina to be an alternate reality. That’s why everyone is mirrored. Their alternate versions of the characters. That said there’s no reason their couldn’t be Hyrulean counterparts to Terminians. There could be a Hyrulean Darmani.

It didn't help that Hyrule Encyclopedia helped give that "theory" some "validation" before Aonuma had to clean things up.
Also, this comment needs more upvotes.

Its stated in the game though. Thats the issue with your theory. If Termina was something created by Skull Kid, then theres no real reason for the residents to know or not know that they existed for a long time. If he so wished it, then they could think they had, even have memories of a distant past, or not. Its all up in the air. This is the ground work for the philosophy of life in fact. Do we exist? Have we always existed? We dont know. We cant say that we've always existed because we dont know if our memories were made up on the spot just a few moments ago. Its highly unlikely, but we cannot say that we exist because we know we exist. The same issue is with the game. If the game says so, that doesnt exactly mean that its true, more that its just believed that it is true, since all of the lore in the game comes not from a narrator, but from the people within the game.

Milly Rainbowskittlez Of course the problem with that supposition is that nothing is true, or everything is true, or anything in between. It ungrounded the concept of truth from anything concrete. Using that framework reality ceases to be.
For the purposes of theorizing you have to start with grounded principles. The one that most people go with is “everything in the games is true”. Once you step off that ledge you approach ideas like “it was all a Dream” and “it never really happened”. Which just aren’t productive.

@@DaMoniable That paragraph basically ignores the fact that Aonuma had gone on record multiple times to say that Termina _wasn't_ created by the Skull Kid. Nevermind that the Skull Kid would have had no reason to torment the denizens of Termina if the land was his creation.

I have a theory about the tapestry in the first game, as you know some people connect the hero to Ganondorf due to the red hair. Maybe the hero is in fact, Ganondorf ,and Zelda and Link were unable to defeat the calamity without the raw power of Ganondorf. If BOTW2 Ganondorf is the same one as you see in Twilight Princess maybe Link had sealed away Ganondorf around that time with the help of the Zonai tribe and through this process his evil began to leak out in the form of malice creating the beast that is, Calamity Ganon. They then, later on in the timeline, released Ganondorf to seal away the Calamity using the full power of the Triforce, this would stop the need for the Divine Beasts and use something else underground to defeat the Great Calamity thus making the fortune tellers prophecy ring true and fix the red hair of the hero in the tapestry. Ganondorf was then resealed under Hyrule Castle while leftover malice began leaking back into him as it was removed creating another Calamity (The one we fight in BOTW which is much weaker due to the leaking back in) and making Ganondorf evil once again. Calamity Ganon takes over the Sheika technology, defeats Hyrule, and the first game happens. Zelda and Link go adventuring to Ganondorf’s chamber where Link gains the power to restore the Master Sword with the Zonai’s magic and defeats Ganondorf until the next reincarnation.

for the statues, your speech brought to me multiples theories.
First you mentioned the gerudo text talking about seven sages. I immediately thought about Ocarina of Time :
The lone statue, forgotten of history definitely sounds like OoT Link, after Zelda send him back to his youth, the sword back into the temple of time, which would explain why the sword is not with the statue.
But then, the text was in gerudo, so i thought about Twilight Princess.
The forgotten statue in this case would be Midna. and her sword could be Link. After all, as a Wolf, you would go on top of mountain to howl songs, and it would make sense that Link himself, would be beneath Midna & the seven sages.
Midna went back to her world never to be heard again from, and considering she came from the twilight zone, maybe someone, some group, wanted to keep it a secret ?
Anyway, this has been my inspiration.

Got my own little Game Theory here. I’d say it’s unlikely that on his travel the Hero of Time explored every inch and met every citizen of Hyrule and Termina. Perhaps the stone carvings are not of Darmani and the Elder’s Son but instead their Hyrulian counter-parts?
