WOW! I don't own this kit , yet . Hats off to Trumpeter , the kit and detail parts kit is truly amazing . The detail of the lifeboats itself almost warrants that the covers be left off ? It would take me A year to build .
Forecastle, poop and both well decks were pitch pine decking which was slightly darker than the Yellow pine decking which was the passenger areas. This was cheaper as the pitch pine had a resin content in the wood for more hard wearing as these were more working areas of the ship.
This is an excellent detail set for the Trumpeter Titanic...Model builders will also need the special tools to bend & shape all that photo-etch. Price wise its very expensive..
The 25-foot emergency cutters which were always swung out also did not have canvas covers. Collapsibles C and D which were stowed on the deck DID have canvas covers; A and B, upside down on top of the officers' quarters, did not.
Did you know that you can also get a RC kit for this model? It is available on ebay, and there is a youtube video on it. Another $180. So now you can have the propellers working with motors and a working rudder.
I just started building mine using scale decks wood. I'm building the kit from the box I did want to buy ka models or pontos but the price doesn't do it any justice as it is almost like buying the kit itself.
Sounds like when this project is done it will be special effects quality. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

I find it amazing that in a kit of this detail and cost, there is no rigging plan/very little rigging included!
