Agree with you entirely on Halo. The very first time I played it, killed my first alien and was able to pick up their gun and fire it, my mind was blown! The gameplay, graphics, attention to detail, mechanics and awesome soundtrack was second to none, a masterpiece.
I had the exact same experience with JSRF. Bought it in 2002, never played it back then and discovered it just recently for the first time. It's so much fun and has such a unique artstyle, it even holds up today in my opinion. By the way, great video as always!

PGR is quite remarkable racing game. I consider myself simulator guy and I generally really dislike arcade style racing games. But PGR is something special. It's weirdly semi-arcade and semi-simulation game and it's absolutely marvelously balanced there between. I really enjoyed that series.
I was fortunate to own one at the time and i fell in love with it more than the ps2 we owned. Xbox live, custom music playlist, best graphics, surround sound, Halo, and then the Modding scene blowing up make it, IMO, the best console of the generation. So good that even today i own three 2tb fully loaded modded original Xboxes.
Halo: Combat Evolved is the mic drop on best launch exclusive ever. One could say SMW or Mario 64 were better launch titles, but NO ONE has made the argument after Halo released.
Had Breath of the Wild was exclusive for the Switch, and not also on the Wii U, that game would have a chance at being the "best launch exclusive title". But my dad bought an Xbox just to play Halo. Few games do that.
@Cameron Reihner I absolutely agree that BotW is better than Halo, but it also released on the Wii U, which makes it claim as "best launch exclusive title" a bit hard to grant.
@Cameron Reihner I bought Breath of the Wild when it came out also.. for my “dying” Wii U.. at its heart it’s a Wii U title and will always be so. Not a switch launch title like Halo was w original Xbox no sir.
JSRF is one of the most creatively unique videogames ever made. More like a piece of art. The reason it hasn't aged is that it wasn't 'of its era'... It was weird back then, and still is!
Now I wanna play some of my old Xbox games- Remember one that I was obsessed with called Phantom Crash. A mech game that even got a sequel of sorts on PS2. It was reptitive, but man I loved it.
For those of us who don't have tons of money for gaming, the original Xbox is a great system because most of the games for it are reasonably cheap and you get a lot of bang for your buck.
That was an amazing video! As a gamer in the US market, I promise you didn’t really miss anything with the US exclusives. Although I have to say, those were some VERY American exclusives.
My brothers and I played the absolute hell out of Fusion Frenzy, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Cel Damage, Turok: Evolution, Def Jam: Fight for NY, Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf, 007 Nightfire, Halo/2, and SSX Tricky, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. They helped me into gaming, I was about 6 years old when I first was handed an xbox controller. As I grew up and started to play solo, there were so many games that blew my mind or engaged me in a way that is very rare with gaming for me now. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, Fable, TES 3: Morrowind, GTA III, NFS Underground 2/Most Wanted, The Suffering, Hunter: The Reckoning, Burnout 3, LoTR The Two Towers, etc. Plenty of games my cousins, uncles, and I all engaged in. We were an xbox family, and I know some of y'all came up the same way. I hope I rang off a couple games that you haven't thought about in a while ;) Plus Phantom Dust years later, as an extra deep cut.
Me and my brother used to play on the Xbox in 2002. Good job I had a brother because the controller was that big that it took two of us to play on it. I had PS2, Gamecube and Xbox at this time. Each console was unique
Oh my word.... CEL DAMAGE!! I completely forgot this game from my childhood existed, but seeing it covered in this video brought back so many fun and frustrating memories of being a kid and playing against both friends and the CPU. Awesome video as always, and thank you for a huge nostalgia trip :)

Wreckless was an amazing looking game at the time but it wasn’t as accessible as it should’ve been. Halo and DOA made me an Xbox fan. Oddly I enjoyed Dark Summit back in the day. Haven’t played it in 20 years and bet I was wrong. I’ll have to dust it off. Anyhow... love the reliving the memories!
Whenever I play my original Xbox it's for a title I've been yearning to get back to like Outrun 2 or Projecr Gotham, and I realize, time after time, the controls and visuals were excellent and the gameplay on so many games still holds up well. Thanks for these great videos and sorry about Dark Summit. And Shrek. I sure want to try Mad Dash now.
Great video and what a decent selection of games. Forgot PGR and JSRF were day 1 too, those with Halo alone make it sensational. Max Payne was always best on Xbox too I thought, definitely better than the PS2 port.
It really did have some decent games at launch, which I suppose is a benefit of being late to the party in terms of when it came out compared to the PS2.
Damn that I loved my original Xbox!! It’s still one of my all time favorite console, there was so many amazing games on it and it was easily the most powerful console on the market. I have to say the original Xbox was well suited to compete against the PS2 at that time, both the original Xbox and PS2 were very impressive and fun consoles. The original Xbox beats the PS2 in the graphics and visuals department for sure. I've seen this video of graphics comparison of Xbox vs PS2 featuring games Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Max Payne, oh yes you'll see a big difference in the graphics quality. These graphics are still dope. I remember holding my og xbox thinking "I am holding the future right here. The future is FINALLY HERE!!!" But, youth fades and the future becomes the past...
Wow me being 24. Back when the original xbox was out, I was just a young boy. Looking back at this now, the original xbox was such a solid machine. Solid games, nostalgic ui and console design. I feel like most of this was overshadowed by the ps2 and what nintendo was doing. Microsoft was groundbreaking back then, hopefully xbox can go back to those glory days. It was like xbox did them and not took themselves so seriously, and was not worrying about the rest of the outside competition. I miss the old days. Gaming was so simpler in my opinion.
im so sorry u got to play fusion frenzy alone :(, it really was such a great game at the time with friends, remember at that time, there werent many party game options besides mario party. Everyone loved fusion frenzy at the time :)
Still my favorite post-childhood console. Nothing will ever top the excitement we had networking 2 systems together on 2 "giant" 30 inch TVs and playing Halo all night. That giant box is the reason I still have dozens of discs taking up space Oddworld, Fusion Frenzy, Morrowind, Blinx, Fable... 5 games right there that play perfectly on the Series S/X and are criminally underrated. And bless them for the backwards compatibility, it's a HUGE bonus!!
Very nicely done. I did notice this game lineup seemed to be for the European launch, as titles like RalliSport Challenge and Jet Set Radio Future were released in North America after the Xbox’s release here in 2001 (both titles were released in early 2002, thus the games were technically released within the “launch window” ie the first sixth months of the system’s life cycle), but I still enjoyed watching this. And thinking about it, the launch lineup of most game consoles simply doesn’t compare to what gets released after it.
I was really disappointed that I couldn't get hold of those US games because I wanted the video to be as detailed as possible. Luckily, sports and racing games aren't that big of a miss.
Reminder that Shrek 1 on Xbox was the first game ever released with Deferred Shading, allowing for more simultaneous lights. This technique got later more widely adopted during the 7th gen era of games.
So many games, spreading such a wide spectrum of genres. It's a bit of a shame that most of the exclusives sounded quite underwhelming, Halo pretty much made up for it lol. Another great, excellently researched video.
Thanks, Shane 👍 Yes, make no mistake, without Halo, the Xbox would've seriously struggled. As I said in the video, it's a very safe launch lineup, which is understandable as it was their first console, but Halo held things up massively.
Yes, the Xbox was sometimes referred to as the 'Halo console' and things may have turned out very differently if MS didn't acquire Bungie and Halo from Mac. Besides that there were other exclusive games cherished by us core Xbox gamers of the time Project Gotham Racing (though started as MSR on Dreamcast) DeathRow Bruteforce (good but it couldn't live up to the massive hype) Jet Set Radio (excluding Dreamcast) NBA Inside Drive series Phantom Dust SteelBattalion (too expensive with the controller) Quantum Redshift NFL Fever Midtown Madness 3 Kameo Blinx Amped
Was there day 1 here in the UK. The games I got with it was Halo and Wreckless. Halo blew my mind and was just so revolutionary (oh and the grass, look at the realistic grass!) and Wreckless was a quirky, Japanese arcade racer that was so much fun with loads of secrets to find (I used the hint books that came with XBM magazine). What a phenomenal console, I remember converting 3 of my friends to get one instead of the PS2. Great channel, good to see some focus on 6th gen from a U.K. perspective, you earned a subscriber :)
I also converted a couple friends over to Xbox after a while. It wasn't too hard with some of the games on show at the time and especially with the launch of Xbox live.
This is really great video. Subbed. I have (and love) both og xbox and ps2, still my favourite generation although i play everything released more or less since early '90 till today, so it's not like im so kind of nostalgic boomer :p
Lmao, I got the OG Xbox for Christmas as a kid and Shrek was my first game. I was simple tho so had fun just running around. But, my dad quickly bought me Oddworld and Halo and those were game changers. Me and my father had a blast on Halo's campaign in coop.
Just in case you were still curious. The version of Wreckless that was released on PS2 and, i think, game cube, was an absolute joke compared to this version. It looked like a cartoon in comparison. They were not powerful enough to run this version.
So glad to still own one of these. Project Gotham 1&2 & rallisport 1&2 were amazing back when I was around 5-6 years old. Halo 1 & 2 are the best titles for it though no doubt !
Just come across your channel and I love the content. I’m a collector of OG Xbox so I was intrigued by what you would make of the games and I have to agree on everything you said. Great video and I’ve subbed 🙂
Given that you mentioned Jet Set Radio's roots, it's worth mentioning that Project Gotham is a direct follow on from MSR on the Dreamcast. It's practically a sequel.
The original Xbox is my all time favorite console. Followed by the N64 and the PS2. I got my original Xbox shortly after live launched, loved every minute of it. It was a pioneer is so many aspects. Also had the best "new console smell" 🤣.
What got me to buy an Xbox was Halo. I wasn't disappointed. Jet Set Radio Future I already kind of played with the Dreamcast. I've had Xbox Live since 2003 but I switched accounts when the 360 came out. I wanted a different name.
Got the OG xbox on launch day. Since I pre ordered it. I got a letter from Microsoft were I could chose 2 free games , from all the launch day games. And 1 free handcontroller Still play OG xbox. Got about 140-150 games
Never owned an Xbox original. Wow, I'm actually impressed with the graphics, they knew how to utilize that hardware. I can see why it was popular at the time. Graphics and presentation were a big deal in the early 2000's. Also.. Halo.. duh. haha
If you look at the specs, it had a lot more power than the PS2 even considering it released a couple years after. It helps that, if I understand it correctly, it in many ways was easier to develop for than the other two consoles given the chosen hardware, use of a hard drive, and Direct X software.
For 20 year old games, a lot of titles on this list have impressive graphics.

These graphics are still dope. I remember holding my og xbox thinking "I am holding the future right here. The future is FINALLY HERE!!!"
But, youth fades and the future becomes the past...
God dammit, this video is criminally underrated, this video and your channel deserves a lot more love!
Man, you went and bought that Shrek for the video, I respect you for that. T'was well done & nice to watch and remember.
X box was amazingly ahead of its time from the looks of it. Genuinley impressed
This is great. I love original Xbox growing up. Had interesting exclusives.
Just bought me a original xbox .. only left I need is a series x to complete my xbox console family 🙂
Still my favorite post-childhood console. Nothing will ever top the excitement we had networking 2 systems together on 2 "giant" 30 inch TVs and playing Halo all night. That giant box is the reason I still have dozens of discs taking up space
Oddworld, Fusion Frenzy, Morrowind, Blinx, Fable... 5 games right there that play perfectly on the Series S/X and are criminally underrated.
And bless them for the backwards compatibility, it's a HUGE bonus!!
Great times.
Boy when I tell you played Jet set radio future to death! Holy shit the hours I put into that game. Such a masterpiece
So many games, spreading such a wide spectrum of genres. It's a bit of a shame that most of the exclusives sounded quite underwhelming, Halo pretty much made up for it lol.
Another great, excellently researched video.
Thanks, Shane 👍
Yes, make no mistake, without Halo, the Xbox would've seriously struggled.
Besides that there were other exclusive games cherished by us core Xbox gamers of the time
Project Gotham Racing (though started as MSR on Dreamcast)
DeathRow
Bruteforce (good but it couldn't live up to the massive hype)
Jet Set Radio (excluding Dreamcast)
NBA Inside Drive series
Phantom Dust
SteelBattalion (too expensive with the controller)
Quantum Redshift
NFL Fever
Midtown Madness 3
Kameo
Blinx
Amped
Rallisport Challenge remains the greatest Rallying game ever made!
It wasn't too hard with some of the games on show at the time and especially with the launch of Xbox live.
that instrumental playing before he got into the games was lit!
For me, it was Panzer Dragoon Orta ,that made me getting a Xbox back in the day! Beautifull game!!
That max Payne level where you’re walking on a blood trail or something tripped my 10 year old self out so bad when it came out
RIP dave mira
Forza and halo and splinter cell is where it was at ..I got an xbox for xmas and was hooked and never looked back at play station 🤷
OMG totally forgot about Amped and Blood Wake! Instantly brought me back in time
*What I can't believe is the fact that it could run Half-Life 2 AND looks great!!*
Nice video mate. I had lots of fun with NHL 2002 when I got it a, while ago
Thanks friend 👍
This is really great video. Subbed. I have (and love) both og xbox and ps2, still my favourite generation although i play everything released more or less since early '90 till today, so it's not like im so kind of nostalgic boomer :p
Lmao, I got the OG Xbox for Christmas as a kid and Shrek was my first game. I was simple tho so had fun just running around. But, my dad quickly bought me Oddworld and Halo and those were game changers. Me and my father had a blast on Halo's campaign in coop.
Stumbled upon your channel by accident, have to say I really like it and very surprised there arent more subscribers
Thank you for the kind words 👍
Halo is the greatest launch title of all time
This video reminded me how much I loved Coolboarders 2 and 3 when I was a kid. Even though that has nothing to do with the video, thats my comment.
This was the perfect console at the right time in history. Then the community made it the best console ever.
Just in case you were still curious. The version of Wreckless that was released on PS2 and, i think, game cube, was an absolute joke compared to this version. It looked like a cartoon in comparison. They were not powerful enough to run this version.
Yes I remember this! Had a blast playing Wreckless on Xbox wow bringing back memories
Jet Set Radio Future was the reason I bought an Xbox. Still playing it in 2020 and sorely wish we could get a new game in the series.
Dude please make more videos your content is so good
I loved playing Fusion Frenzy as a kid.
JSRF is incredible too. I highly recommend trying it for anyone slightly interested. It's on steam for PC.
Original Xbox best console ever made.
Given that you mentioned Jet Set Radio's roots, it's worth mentioning that Project Gotham is a direct follow on from MSR on the Dreamcast. It's practically a sequel.
Games I grew up with: Halo 1 & 2, SSX Tricky SSX3 & On tour, Blinx, Blinx 2, LotR Fellowship, Rollercoaster Tycoon (Port), Munch's Oddysee, Fuzion Frenzy and GTA:SA & Vice City.
Was renting about 10 games a week after modding was completed. Loved the Xbox.
Xbox was by far the most superior console at the time, the graphics were amazing
The original Xbox is my all time favorite console. Followed by the N64 and the PS2. I got my original Xbox shortly after live launched, loved every minute of it. It was a pioneer is so many aspects.
Also had the best "new console smell" 🤣.
I just realized that there was an entire Original Xbox at a pawn shop near by, but I saw it a couple of years ago so it's probably not there
Brother I played mad dash all the time when i was about 8.. so much fun
I remember the days of conflict: Desert Storm, good times
What got me to buy an Xbox was Halo. I wasn't disappointed. Jet Set Radio Future I already kind of played with the Dreamcast. I've had Xbox Live since 2003 but I switched accounts when the 360 came out. I wanted a different name.
Love this kind of channel
The type S controller is probably one of the best controllers of all time. Plus Halo enough said
Amped is the best snowboard franchise and I wish they would remaster it.
Film games aren't always bad, The Warriors is cool
The Godfather
Got the OG xbox on launch day. Since I pre ordered it. I got a letter from Microsoft were I could chose 2 free games , from all the launch day games. And 1 free handcontroller
Still play OG xbox. Got about 140-150 games
If you liked RalliSport Challenge you should check out the sequel, I still play that game once in a while these days
I just might do that.
Dark summit sounds like a holiday
Never owned an Xbox original. Wow, I'm actually impressed with the graphics, they knew how to utilize that hardware. I can see why it was popular at the time. Graphics and presentation were a big deal in the early 2000's. Also.. Halo.. duh. haha
If you look at the specs, it had a lot more power than the PS2 even considering it released a couple years after. It helps that, if I understand it correctly, it in many ways was easier to develop for than the other two consoles given the chosen hardware, use of a hard drive, and Direct X software.
Hi Just come across your video... really good watch.. am shocked you havnt got more subscribers.. I will be checking out more videos 👍👍thank you
Both the JetSet games are sick!!! I've owned and played both of them.
