    Exception: The Nation Tianjing is composed of mostly Aasimar. Other than that, it's true it's rare for Aasimar to have their own settlements.

    I think it's worth pointing out that in 2e, Paizo have updated the heritage's "source" beyond just in-breeding. Tieflings can be created just by exposure to evil planar forces before birth and are thus not always a sign of sexual relationships with outsiders. In addition, Tiefling influence can linger in bloodlines like a recessive trait and then manifest many generations later. It seems like this purpose is to provide character options that don't imply some degree of sexual violence in the immediate family. That this is true does not change peoples' perceptions of Tieflings of course. Cheliax's treatment of Tieflings is clearly made more ignorant with this change.

      Thanks for pointing out, and its true that Paizo is always updating their lore, so not only might I miss stuff, but all my content may eventually be out of date and inconsistent with current canon!

      Is the possibility of working like a recessive trait specific to Tieflings or dose it apply to special bloodlines in general? I'm currently working on the backstory of an Ifrit Dwarf and that would increase the number of options for his ancestry.

    In the recent Player Core, the names "Tiefling" and "Aasimar" have been dropped, with all persons displaying Outer-Plane traits being labelled as "Nephilim." Of course, certain individuals still look fiendish and others celestial, so I imagine much of the stigma remains. Only, how with a new dimension, because the "fiendish" looking individual may be of angelic descent and the "celestial" one actually has the blood of demons in their veins.

      Kayal is a term they use, but I think that's just 'Fetchling' in their own language. I don't think Fetchling is derogatory, just the Taldan or Common tongue word for their people. Or you might be right and I missed that in the lore!

    ... Hmm I am curious why Tieflings would not be Prized, Elevated Status, being closer to the God of Cheliax? Why would they not be Nobles, as opposed to Slaves? Just saying, especially with the propensity and traits from their Devil / Demon blood? What would stop a Tiefling from establishing their own Noble Bloodline with the goal being to achieve a form as close to Asmodeus as possible, so as to be a better Servant of their Dark God?

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This is a question I get asked a lot. It seems unusual right? I think this has to do with Asmodeus' own attitude towards his lesser demons. Typically Tieflings are not descended from Asmodeus himself (nor even from any of the upper devils) though admittedly if they were they might well be held in high regard. Remember Asmodeus encourages those that exert their power and dominance over others, so Tieflings are most often the result of a Diabolist (usually male) binding a Succubus or other fetching lesser devil to his service. The by-products of such unions are then considered to be 'bindable' in the same way that summoning magic in which lesser devils are bound is permissable in the faith. In short - Asmodeus created the lesser devils explicitly for use by his living faithful - and tieflings are derivatives of those. That make sense? That said, its a big world, and a Tiefling noble bloodline is totally possible.

    • @nikolibarastov4487
      @nikolibarastov4487 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TheMythKeeper That is important information for distinction. Being that the lesser Devils are to be used by the faithful of Asmodeus. The tenant of exerting your will onto others also gives that a lot more frame of reference. And under those conditions, I can absolutely see how Tieflings would essentially be seen as Slave-born, versus Noble. To achieve that a Tiefling would have to dominate their parent, then establish themselves. Or, as you hinted at a Tiefling born of the Higher Devils.

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obsidian is a type of naturally occuring mineral (volcanic glass actually) and not a type of metal, so definitely an obsidian-skinned oread is a possibility. I also think it's possible for Oread's to have flakes of iron ore because that's also naturally occurring but you wouldn't get steel on an Oread because that's worked metal.

    Good vid. I suppose it's just me, but for the longest time some of these names threw me. For example, when I first heard the term tiefling, it reminded me less of someone touched by the Lower Planes, and more like some kind of cutesy fey creature. Likewise a fetchling sounded more like a wizard's construct. I guess all the cool names were taken😅.
    Regarding Half Elves, I know a lot of people champion them as metaphors for biracial and/or multicultural backgrounds, and that's great. But I've seen way too many players take them just for stat bonuses. I also had to wonder how there could be so many in universe pairings where the elf is perfectly willing to have relations where they know they will outlive partners or any prospective children. A handful I could understand, but enough for an entire subspecies?

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I think this is just a quirk of D&D because Elrond in LotR was a half-elf and he was a popular character, so many players in early D&D wanted to play one. I think if a different fantasy novel had been at the center of the zeitgeist in the 70s we'd have a very different 'standard set' of ancestries.
