    Building my campaign on Iomedae. 4 young children find themselves being trained at the temple. Players will pass skill challenges and tests to reach level 1. Then, as a Circle, they will join the kingdoms army in campaigns. Eventually, a greater threat will be revealed, and they will fight to protect the people.
    Im going to have a rep system with the temples masters and fellow students.

    Amusingly all of these gods in some way have been central to my longer running games in the setting. Abadar and Iomadae play huge parts in my current Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign, as two of my players are holymen of those faiths. Erastil was a huge part of my Kingmaker game because the parties cleric/ real leader was a priest of his. This batch is important for me as a DM, but the next video I see is very important to me as a player!

    Great video and very informative. Some bits of lore about Aroden that was missing was his efforts in Sarkoris against the cult of Deskari. His death allowed Deskari and his cult to open the Worldwound in the same year Aroden died. That area is the focus of the Wrath of the Righteous adventure path and its one of my favorites, definitely give it a try. Its my belief that Deskari had something to do with Arodens death so the demon lord could invade through the worldwound.

    my friends and I are playing the Rise of the Runelords adventure path and my character is a young Scion of a minor Chelish Noble family who joined the Hell Knight Order of the Nail in Korvosa as part of a tradition his father's side of the family has (they have each able bodied child join a different Order of Hell Knights, my character has a sister in the Order of the Godclaw and a brother in the Order of the Scourge and his Father is a Paralictor of the Order of the Chain. the whole family worships the Godclaw interpretation of Lawful deities, but my character, Galeo, actively worships the Godclaw interpretation of Abadar, which makes sense considering he's (as of the middle of the first downtime period) a Hell Knight of the Order of the Nail, who are all about bringing order to frontiers. for my character, Abadar is less a god of Merchants and more a God of Cities, Judges and Laws. actually Abadar as Galeo perceives him appeared to him while he was meditating before his Hell Knight trial. in the Vision, Galeo was in a Courtroom that was all black, white and grey, with cloaked figures of each color in the pews, and a great Tribunal Bench with a pillar in where Judges would sit representing each of the Deities that are worshipped by the Godclaw, with Abadar being the largest one and the one that actively spoke to Galeo, telling him about there being a great injustice on the horizon and that Galeo would need to be ready for it. needless to say I had a lot of fun with that session. oh and my character has an interesting relationship with the local Abadaran priest in the town the adventure path starts in.

    Oh i see, abadar is the god of capitalism. Though, i could perhaps see an interpretation of Abadar being one that fits the dominant political and economic culture of a society. Could their be a sect of tyrannical Abadarans? Purely communal Abadarans?

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. He's technically a god of trade, progress and the exchange of ideas; so capitalism is but one possible emergent system, but I think as long as people are bartering and sharing, Abadar sees it as positive. Different Abadar sects on different planets of the material universe may have completely different takes on how his teachings can be adopted.

      There's plenty to speculate on here. Thematically I think the important take-away is that you can't trust prophecy, and there is no such thing as destiny in Pathfinder

    in dnd, dead gods float in the astral and essentially can return if enough belief. What happens to dead gods in pathfinder?

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Common misconception for D&D folks coming over to Pathfinder. In Pathfinder, Gods are not powered by belief. Some Gods are very powerful, and remain hidden, with no worshippers at all. (Some day I may discuss the Peacock Spirit which is one such example.) When Mortal worship a God they are entreating the God for special powers (divine magic!) but its entirely at the God's discretion whether they offer it to the mortal. Some gods are free-wheeling with their power, others offer power to mortals only for something in return. Depends on the God and their disposition.
      Any post-mortal life-form that dies in the Outer Planes, including angels, devils and gods, will effectively dissolve. Their quintessence will be re-absorbed into the outer plane where they were originally ascended to divinity; and their 'spirit' such as it is will effectively pass into the structure of the heavens or the hells that made them.
      Bringing a God back to life is enormously difficult, because their quintessence gets essentially scattered like stardust. But its also not impossible. Watch my Geb video, and you'll see that the Ghost King managed to bring Aroden's first herald, the angel Arazni, back to life in this way.
      Also if Gods die on the material plane _instead_ of the outer planes, things get weirder still, because that soul stuff will essentially try to escape back out to the outer planes but may not be able to. Some of it may remain trapped and warp reality. The best example of this is the Mordant Spire. The goddess Acavna died above Golarion and her corpse fell to the Earth. From where it landed, the Mordant Spire, a vast crystal tower, emerged, and no one really understands how or why. Its also served to transform the elves who claimed it into the weird Mordant Spire elves.
      But of course, ultimately, this is narrative fiction as much as its a game, so the answer to "What happens when a God dies in Golarion" is actually "Whatever the GM wants to happen."
      Hope that's the answer you were looking for ;-)

    • @fistimusmaximus6576
      @fistimusmaximus6576 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      interesting, because I had watched your other god video on the azlanti gods death and the spire aswell as this with aroden I wondered why no-one attempted to bring them back. Also in dnd you could almost differentiate gods and say demonprinces with one requiring by their portfolios petitioners.@@TheMythKeeper

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@fistimusmaximus6576 Especially in the case of a god as influential as Aroden, you can bet that that very many people tried to bring Aroden back. Not just people, but also other Gods. I have no doubt Iomedae (being his herald at the time) tried every avenue to bring him back. There is a nice little detail when I did my Aeons video, which isn't out yet but is coming soon, where the Godmind of Axis had to recalibrate and adjust the universe's system of physics and quantum mechanics after Aroden's death, so for that particular death something went seriously out of whack, and it went well beyond the death of one deity. The exact details have been intentionally left a little fuzzy, so individual game groups can do with that what they will.

    Hmmm I'll be honest wrath of the righteous made me severely dislike iomadae.

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Iomedae is associated in the game world with chivalry and duty, but at her core she is in fact a war goddess. She won her stripes by going toe-to-toe with the Whispering Tyrant. She believes some fights have to be won, and in those circumstances she's willing to bend on her lofty morals. I think its totally fair to dislike Iomedae, but I also think its characters that make us a little uncomfortable from time to time that make for the most interesting characters. I don't know, your mileage may vary.

    • @lakkakka
      @lakkakka 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheMythKeeper Not sure how much the book version differs from the CRPG, but I'm mainly speaking about CRPG Iomadae. For a god she seems really petty and very willing to drum up excuses for whatever decision she makes. The only one I can agree with is not simply smiting nocticula. Then again can't imagine deskari and baphomet disliking it tho. THey might actually abuse that to try and get rid of Noc for a second time in her realm. To then fully focus on invasion.
      What I blamed her for most is that you are on your path of whatever divinity you chose. Acting as if her ascension was more special. As if she is worried about her place in the whole of it, like a lawful evil ruler. Also her reluctance in just telling Inheribro to not risk his life in the abyss, to let the commander figure it out. I think my issues with iomadae is that gods are supposed to be above human, sure she is still a "fresh god". With just a century or so of experience at that point. The Pathfinder deities reminding me of olympian gods and their chaotic impact on human llife just mostly force me to go the atheist route.
      Honestly I like the power fantasy, becoming a whatever and going for the ascension route, basically makes you part of the pantheon. But since you haven't died you are basically a (Im)mortal god. Still having freedom to run around golarion without breaking cosmic rules. Especially after breaking inevitable.
      But story wise it completely trivializes the impact of the gods. So maybe my issues are purely with the story told and personality presented.
      Hmmm just had a thought that we are told that pathfinder and dnd by extension have an absolute morality. While I believe morality doesn't exist in those universes. Just deities and their portfolio's, The belief that there is such a thing like lawful - chaos + good - evil seems to be a mortal misconception. Of course the "civilized" people are lawful while barbarians are "chaotic"
      Chaos is in itself a form of order. Because if chaotic evil would form anything in the abyss to make them suffer it wouldn't make chaotic evil demons, they'd create lawful good patches that completely go against the realms status quo. Lawful good brings a lot of suffering to "chaotic evil" beings. Ah well.

    • @TheMythKeeper
      @TheMythKeeper  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lakkakka Its definitely true that the 9 afterlives and the alignment system trivialize the complexities of real world morality. One of the things I'm really excited about in the upcoming Remaster, is that as Pathfinder is moving away from D&D Open Game License, they are also dropping the alignment system altogether. I think ultimately this will be for the betterment of the world. Also, yes, Pathfinder Gods are definitely not like our conception of Gods, but are more like the Olympian or Norse gods, often petty and very human, not all-seeing, an so on... They are just extremely powerful, and capable of performing magical miracles, and conferring power on mortals who worship them.

    • @lakkakka
      @lakkakka 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheMythKeeper sounds like a very good decision on their part. Sure I am aware that dm's are basically 'god' the one who sets all the rules. But too many of those 'gods' follow the book of guidelines like a book of irrefutable truth.
      So I like that they removed it.
      On the petty gods thing. To me they perfectly reflect real life society. Especially in how heavily they try to enforce their ideals and punish me as an autist not playing their social status games.
      So in the end I tend to always want to turn to demon or lich runs in WOTR either as an atheist or only following those whose portfolio is in line with my personality. So I'd only follow as long as I agree with them. Not out of worship.
      Then again abstracts are impossible to deal with. Too vague. Too dependant on things that aren't concrete.
      Hmmm now I am honestly wondering what species I would be reïncatnated into if being reïncarnated into your favourite fantasies is a form of afterlife.
      I can only think of outliers like elves, gnomes, dwarves or the oread. Bit off topic but ah well.
