Good video! I thought of it as Winnie-the-Pooh drives a Mini Cooper!

Glad you enjoyed it and hopefully in the very short time I had the car it gives you a feel of what the car is like. It was good driving the new Countryman electric followed by the cooper S.

The looks are growing on me but such a shame no manual!

I had a feeling the JCW was going to be offered as a manual but cannot find where I read that so maybe a dream lol. If the cooper S feels this good the JCW should be great to drive. My R53 is fun to drive and I’m certain would be quicker but this feels so much more refined and really like the interior. Styling is good just different and does not look as aggressive as previous models.

@@DamoDrivesThey've been running an F66 JCW at Nurburgring recently and that's an automatic.
Pretty sure the 1 to 6 will be the last manual.

OMG that engine sounds amazing. No manual, no deal though. I had a 2004 Cooper S, a 2010 Cooper S and now drive a 2021 Paddy Hopkirk Edition (US). All manual transmissions. Half the fun is upshifting, downshifting and rev matching. And those paddles don’t do it for me.

Good review. I really want one of these. I have a 1.5 F56 but I’d love the 2.0. It’s one of the few new drivers cars you can buy for reasonable money.

Engine felt nice and responsive with a good amount of torque, fun if you want to push it. Not sure on PCP payments but Minis seem to hold there value and especially as it’s not electric

Try installing the Bluespark Petrol tuning box. £299 and makes it the same BHP as the Cooper S and is safe and easy to fit and remove if required.

Having spent quite a lot of time having my R53 being modified with a custom map and tune on the rolling road I’m not quite sure if an off the shelf generic tune would cause issues with the engine. Have no proof as not had it done so just a question really

Great video, I really enjoyed it! I had a 2008 S that suffered from the timing chain issue. I had to trade it in because they hadn't yet recalled it. I always regretted having to let it go. I test drove a 2025 about a month ago and immediately ordered one! Should be here within the next month. Can't wait to get back into it. It is a shame there's no manual but the automatic felt amazingly responsive.

Love the review. I have an R53, for daily driving through 22years and I still looooveee, but this is better and quicker ( unless yours isn't stock ). Even the C is similar to stock r53 and because it's not affordable here in Greece the 2 litter, I choose the C with the jcw trim which I loved and it's just perfect and quick. I was going for the f56 ( which I like but only the lci2) but thankfully Mini canceled the order cause this model is better for me. More roomier, fresh, comfortable and better tech. I love the dct ( 22 years manual in traffic is enough for me). I love the design in and out ( I saw yesterday a f56 and it seems huge the tail lights to me). The suspension is better, the DCT too and the power is plus 20hp...for the cooper c. I don't want anything more.
Thanks again for the lovely review!!!!

I'm genuinely curious about how good this could be as a daily. Looking at spec the high end trims come with gear you'd usually find on *much* bigger cars (massaging seats! in a Mini! AR navigation, 360 cameras, heads up display etc) along with a pretty comprehensive suite of driver assist systems. If the ride and noise are on the right side of civilised (and from the bowl test it's looking good) while still letting it drive like, well, like a mini then as weird as it sounds a Cooper S Sport with level 3 options coming in just under £36k might be something of a bargain with the way car prices have gone recently.

I really like everything about the car, while the boot is not that big you could do a weekly shop, a single suitcase or several soft carry on bags. It’s certainly bigger than my R53, comfortable and as you saw at 100mph not that loud (you would probably have music on as well) if you can drive 1 or an extended test drive I would consider it. Still feels like a mini as well

Have you any knowledge on updates to the suspension, chassis or anything that has changed to improved handling or ride compared to the last generation. I appreciate that the petrol version is essentially the same underpinnings but was assuming the new gen would get some sort of upgrade. Cheers.

Hi Tim thanks for taking the time to comment, afraid I did not get enough time to find that out as I was unaware i was going to drive it but I can say it felt very composed and handled everything the 2 circuits I tried it on very well.

They said that, steering, dct and the suspension have been updated and it's better than the f56 which were very good.

Nice review and car looks good although visual distinction between Cooper and S is less apparent with no bonnet vent and tail pipes.
Big issue for me is that F56 had manual capability on all automatic models, either through gear lever or paddles.
For latest gen, with removal of gear lever, need to buy Sport trim at extra £3,500 to get paddles.
Also not keen on removal of rotary controller, climate control knobs, etc.

    • @DamoDrives
      @DamoDrives  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I prefer physical buttons although a lot of things you won’t change once set. Audio controls can be done on steering wheel so maybe not as big a problem ! I would need to live with 1 really.

Styling wise similar although those who know will know what it is although most none car people don’t care that much 😂

@@DamoDrivesI'm sure it will sell well. BMW have probably researched that most current drivers use the touchscreen anyway and that many DCT owners probably aren't even aware of the manual option or have never used it.
Would be great if you're able to review the new Cooper 1.5 now with 156hp and 0-62 in 7.7 secs. Pretty good for a base model.

2 very good hot hatches so you are bang on although the Mini is a rather good car and hoping I can drive the JCW at some point. Hot hatches generally are a dying breed as everything is going SUV
