There isn’t a limit on Cast net diameter but it can’t be larger than 3/8” mesh. Another relatively unknown law is you cannot transport more than 200 Shad. That’s one that somebody could miss especially when catching bait to use them the next day fishing or to fish another lake.
In the winter they won’t scatter when you use trolling motor over them, but in the warmer months they will scatter when the blades are on. Look for dense balls on sonar not little ones that look like the size of a fish mark. I’ll try and do some videos on using sonar to catch Shad.

We have mostly soft bottoms, sand and mud on our lakes where we are at.
