De Ligt will come into United’s side and already understand what the manager wants from him resulting in him not taking as long to adjust compared to some of the other defenders the club is linked to. At just 24 years old he’s also quite experienced when looking at how long he’s been around as well as the club’s he’s played for (Ajax, Juventus, Bayern Munich). As we’ve previously mentioned too, De Ligt is also very much a leader as he was captain of THAT Ajax side under Erik ten Hag in one of the club’s more successful periods, at least in recent times. Here is how I think he would fit into this United side...

We are only getting him for one reason. Erik. There are too many United fans that don't realise how well Erik is respected all across Europe. Players want to play under him and big clubs want him as their manager.

You’re right to be aware of a potential injury issue with him, but when the injuries are contact injuries it’s less of a concern.

@no9scrum he's done his metatarsal too, he's had 2 foot injuries, 1 knee injury and was also out for 1 month with a calf strain since he signed, all 4 injuries kept him out for months. His first season don't forgot he missed the last 2/3 months of the season there too
@no9scrum he's unreliable he puts country before club he's always fit for them. Man utd should try get Braithwaite aswell as de ligt. As he's left footed and would be top class cover for martinez and de ligt. With there injury records and the fact we're in the europa league Braithwaite will easily end up playing 30-35 games that's a fair amount for a up and coming 21 Yr old defender

De ligt was better than both Upamecano and Kim min Jae at bayern. In fact, he was the best center half in the squad. If he can stay injury free, a partnership with Martinez could be amazing for us.

That's because whilst he was out injured they struggled as Upamencano and Kim Min Jae were both disappointing. Eric Dier was out performing those two and he couldn't get a look in at Spurs.
Can't see a single reason not to sign him. Aside from maybe injuries. But even that isn't like that worrying really. He's class! Best player in that ajax team and the leader!
People are forgetting that players don't decide to get injured.
To be honest, I haven't kept an eye on de Ligt's career (or injury record) for a while but he was an impressive modern centre back at Ajax, and he's the right kind of person. Seems a good pro with leadership qualities.
It all comes down to the price... If the new recruitment team has given it the green light and the price is right, I have no issue taking him.

De Ligt played as a CDM until he was moved to CB/Sweeper at 17 in the first team.
His definitely comfortable on the ball, his press resistant and excellent vision..
The only downside is, at some point he has to undergo surgery on that knee to let it heal properly. Hopefully it can wait at the end of the 2nd season...

De Ligt partnered Daley Blind in Ajax defence. Neither were quick, yet were a good partnership. Okay, it's different leagues but still.

I'll be VERY happy if United sign De Ligt for many of the same reasons you state in this video. However, I was also at first worried about recovery speed but Bayern play with a high line and so did Ajax so it shouldn't be a problem. Martinez is also not the quickest but he and De Ligt are very clever and experienced enough to make up for it by reacting quickly and seeing the danger in time (Maguire is awful at that in comparison) and they are both quick on the first meters so I'm concluding it's shouldn't be a problem with also quick Dalot and Shaw in defense to tackle fast runners. But I'll also love United to buy another more quick CB if needed. Hopefully United can win the court case and be able to also buy Todibo. Injuries or not Martinez and De Ligt can't play all the matches in a long season so United need at least 4 CBs and I would be very happy to with Martinez, De Ligt, Todibo and Kambwala with Evans as the emergency backup. If no Todibo someone with the same profile and if United sell Maguire and Lindelof that would almost pay for De Ligt.
Well said maguire and lindeloff lack the vision and football iq to read the danger and neither can do what deligt or licha can on the ball. If we want to improve we need centerbacks who can defend but are also good in the ball.

That effort from Pepe is not going to be there for an entire season. Playing for your country in tournament football allows that intensity and emotion. Pepe can't sustain that effort in a club season.

Ok so window has now been open over 3 weeks and closes in about 6 weeks. We seriously need to get our finger out and get some signings done and sorted. That 6 weeks will fly by. A lot of our league rivals have already made and secured 3 or 4 new players. I appreciate we've got some new chiefs in the building but cmon boys lets go. Enuff with the speculation.

Juve let him go because De Ligt wanted to win the UCL and he didn't get along with Chiellini & Bonnuci.
At Bayern, he was player of the season in his first season because Nagelsman was the coach for most of the season. In the UCL they almost flawless until Tuchel took over.

I don't know what you're on about. Kompany is a head coach - he doesn't decide who goes or stays. The Dutch manager clearly rates him because he called him up knowing he was injured.

The two areas of concern with de Ligt are the knee injury, as the prem is a physically demanding league, and the scrutiny from the media. While I don't think de Ligt will be overawed by a MU move the English media is utterly awful. They will be all over a 'star' move making s#!t up and swaying peoples opinion as they always have. De Ligt, Zirkzee and Ugarte are away with their respective countries currently so that prolongs things. In the past we’ve been slow, agreed. But this is quite literally because of logistics rather than anything United are doing or not doing

De Ligt and Todibo to replace Lindelof and Maguire would be massive will probably keep one of them because we let Varane leave but if we want to move forward and progress sell them both and have Martinez De Ligt Todibo Kambwala Evans Fish as the options at centre back and just hope we don’t have injuries again this season if we do this and Kambwala and Fish step up will only need to replace Evans next season then we can start building the midfield and right back area

for me DeLigt is a no branner, as long as we dont over sprend in teh transfer fee and wages. no more than 35Mil and 140 a week. anything above that then i would go for a younger and less injury prone player.

Imagine what de Ligt could be under the force multiplayer of Martinez......
De Javu, I thought i've been in time slip to the past.
De Ligt is a good player, with potential to be a great one. I agree his lack of pace is overstated, for me it's not how quick he is at top speed, but about how quickly he can turn and accelerate to that top speed. He's a big lad, and that limits his mobility. His top speed is good enough to keep up with most players. The problem is that a quick forward will be up to top speed over 3-5 yards, while De Ligt will take 10-12 yards to get up to top speed. That means that while he might reach the same speed, if he and an opposing forward turn and start their sprint from the same place and at the same time the forward will always be 5 yards or so ahead of him because of their greater acceleration.
The real problem with De Ligt for me is that I don't think he's an ideal partner for Martinez. Both are aggressive front foot defenders whose natural game is to always try and win the ball. A great centre back partnership ALWAYS has one front foot defender and one sweeper who'll sit back and clean up if the front foot defender doesn't win the ball. They don't dive in to tackles but use their pace and mobility to jockey the attacker, slow them down or force them into less dangerous areas while the rest of the team gets back into their defensive shape.
The reason Maguire and Martinez don't work as a partnership is because both are front foot defenders. It's no coincidence that Maguire's worst form at United came when Martinez joined, and his form only recovered when Martinez was injured. De Ligt is just an upgraded Maguire, and will have similar problems playing alongside Martinez.
I disagree i think deligt reads the game alot better than maguire ever has is alot more agile and organizes things better as well. Deligt has a higher football iq than maguire as well and so he doesnt need to have absurd recovery pace because he positions himself better.

I think it works for some players in certain positions but it doesn't work for players in certain positions.
Fullback is a very physically demanding position, which means players need a high level of fitness. That requires physically demanding training that conditions a player.
Strikers often play in fits and starts during a game and don't need that same level of stamina. So they can train differently and focus more on technical or tactical training over physical conditioning. Which is useful for injury prone forwards.
Fact -> he's 3rd or 4th choice at Bayern and for his country. If our ambition is to beat teams like Bayern in the CL how are we going to do this with players not good enough to get into their team ?????

I believe De Ligt is the perfect solution and addition in defence for Man Utd especially with Varane's departure.
I am also in agreement about needing another quick athletic CB to sweĺl up the ranks ideally with either Lindelof or Maguire to exit and Kambwala learning his trade under Ten Hag I still think there might be an academy graduate on the periphery that Ten Hag may put faith in if he dont get Leny Yoro😊

They weren't playing Dier over him. They played next to each other. Upamecano and Kim were on the bench for almost all of the second half of the season.
Upamecano starts for France and Kim was supposed to be the second coming of Maldini, according to most United fans. Yet de Ligt put them both behind him. Mathijs is solid, great signing.

Having two left footed CB's (who are both injury prone) isn't the answer imo.
AC Milan have one of the best footballing CB's in world football right now who imo is going to become the next elite CB. He's not injury prone, is right footed and has more natural talent than Todibo and Branthwaite. Also Le Normand looks quite a good player as well. Need to stop signing injury prone players, last season was a joke with regards to injuries.
