- I cut the metal axle for the Cougar for the Second Chance Zombie Group Build Intro - hosted by Paul @LeftCoastModelCarBuilds and Jason @KRD12K .
So I measured the diameter (it is 1.5mm or 0.060inches), and found styrene rod on Amazon. In case you want to make your own axle - www.amazon.com...
I think it ended up looking pretty good! Apologies for the audio issues at the end.

Email me at boxstockgarage@gmail.com for a shop card. I'm happy to send one out even if you don't have one to send back.
great come back Tim...thx 4 sharing... vinny
Thanks Vinny!
I bought that same pack of 1.5mm axle wire. Comes in handy at times! I clip them off with the wire cutter on a pair of regular pliers. Works well. 😎👍
Thanks Lance! Pliers certainly do a cleaner job on the styrene rod than on the metal axle...hehehe
Looks nicer than my white cougar! Nice tip, thanks!
Thanks Joe!
Down but not out. Nice recovery, Tim. The flat black hood really pops.😎👍✌
Thanks Mark! I am hoping to make some big progress on the Cougar this weekend.
I keep an assortment of brass rod in stock for just such an occasion!! LOL! Been there, done that!!!! Great recovery!
Thanks Tim! I thought about brass rod but I figured I would do something bad cutting it. LOL
Thanks for checking it out! Hope you are doing better!
Great recovery Tim, thanks for the idea!
Thanks Ed. Maybe my motto can be "I make the mistakes so you don't have to"? hehehe
Well, I think we’ve all been there Tim. 😂. At least you’ve got plenty of axle material now. Nice work getting through that issue though. Chassis looks great, even in silent mode. 😉. Have a great finish to the week, my friend.
Thanks Kyle. I am good for 150-200 axles now! LOL Cold and snow are back here, so just keeping the fire going! Have a good one!
@ you’re welcome!! And plenty of axles isn’t bad. we still have a heat wave for 2 days. 40 tomorrow!! Then more absurd cold 🥶. Stay warm, my friend.
Great advice Tim, the Cougar is looking sharp!
Thanks Jethro! The Zombie is rising...ever so slowly!
Great idea!! ✌️😁
Thanks for checking it out Stephen!
Great tip Tim!⚡
Thank you Mike!
Nice come back Tim
Thanks Dave!
Nice safe! Myself I measure multiple times and still tend to be off! Thanks for sharing.
I know what you mean Mike! I really liked the way this turned out. Thanks for stopping by.
Great idea Tim! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for checking it out Gloria. I was pleased with the outcome (even though the path to get there was kinda silly LOL)
I guess I need to buy a ruler on Amazon. I usually eyeball it, then try to fabricate something, and then buy it. 😂. That red looks great!
I had the ruler sitting there the whole time. Just didn't use it until after! LOL Thanks for checking it out Billy!
Styrene is the way to go Tim.
Yeah, I might do this on all of my metal axle kits going forward, Terry. Thanks for watching.
Cougar body looks nice Tim, great job with the axle. I sometimes make small cuts on metal axles because I can always trim more vs cutting too much😮
yeah, but that makes too much sense for me, David! hehehe
Looking good so far... my dad taught me the same
Thanks Jason! I figure my Dad was looking down and just shaking his head...LOL
Nice video Tim
Thanks Tim!
Very cool.
Thanks Marcelo!
You should be all set for metal axles for awhile, Tim 👍😎
I think so, Greg...I think so! Thanks for stopping by.
Great advice Tim thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking it out Donnie!
Ahhh, modern technology .....
One nice thing about using styrene rods - it glues far easier to the styrene wheels!! I've done that where I've cut a metal axle too short ... I got metal rod to replace it, and had all manner of cutting it! I thought about styrene rod after that ..
I hadn't thought about going to Amazon to get rod in bulk - with as much fabricating as I do, it would likely be a LOT cheaper!!
Yeah, I looked at brass rod, Ron. But then it seemed like cutting that would be a bit of a challenge (or would require some type of brass cutter...dunno).
I agree though. Gluing is so much easier. :) 62.5mm x 4 is 250mm, which is the length of the rod. So if they are all that length, I am good for 200 axles! HEHEHE
My Dad used to say, cut it off 3 times and it's still to short, lol, you got plenty in Stock now Tim
I am sure my Dad was looking down saying "Really? I taught you better than that!" hehe Thanks Tom!
Great idea thanks for the tip.
Thanks Ron!
Isn't modeling fun 😂. Great recovery!
Like the 80's song goes, Joe: "Loving every minute of it!"
Thanks buddy!
