This is a great and comprehensive video. Well done and thank you. It's really disappointing they're going to discontinue the anthologies without Fall of X. I don't want to have to chase a dozen different titles to finish out this era. The anthologies were perfect, as you say, for the reader who wants the full experience. There's been a few decisions in Marvel's history since the 90s that have made me walk away entirely as a reader for several years. This may be one of them. We'll see.

My vote for how to collect it all (if Marvel needs an idea) would be boxsets of the anthologies. Or if they are set on discontinuing those versions, you can put multiple volumes together into standard sized hardcovers like they did with the infinity saga, civil war, secret wars etc. Those boxsets were awesome. Looks like it could be broken up into three boxsets. 1) Hoxpox-Dawn-x of swords 2) reign-inferno-trials-lives/deaths 3) sins of sinister-fall-etc. I bet if the fans felt they had a guarantee that their collection could be complete, they would preorder the heck out of a boxset treatment. As opposed to omniboo that may or may not ever see certain series, or more specifically, not see them for years and years. That is a massive amount of books. I read a lot of these series when it started but the only stuff I really enjoyed was the books written by Hickman. I dropped everything else within the first six issues or less.
HoxPox is what got me into X-men and comics in general. I followed all the series religiously until Lives / Deaths of wolverine and then there were so many series spinning-out it was hard to keep track and I fell off. Really hoping we get a bunch of omnibus' covering this era so I can finish off all the series I missed, mapping them would be a nightmare unless you just have EVERYTHING in release order.

Dude! Was just thinking about wanting to know the reading order regarding Krakoa today!!! As a new collector so happy to have your channel around! Keep up the great work!!
I really tried to work out a good reading order for this era, but in the end I came to the conclusion that most of the books standalone pretty well, and usually read better that way (at least through to _Inferno,_ it gets a bit messier for some of the books when _Judgment Day_ hits). e.g. _Excalibur_ #1-12 > _X of Swords_ > _Excalibur_ #16-26 > _Knights of X_ > _Captain Britain_ is a pretty clean throughline. _Wolverine_ and _X-Force_ are basically the same book though and should be read together (if you can figure out the timeline between them, which is not always clear). _Cable_ in particular, I would recommend reading in one chunk. Read #5-6 as part of _X of Swords,_ but then read #1-4 and #7-12 in one chunk after the crossover (think of the early issues as a flashback, if chronology is especially important to you). It's a single story, and doesn't have enough of a connection to what's going on elsewhere on Krakoa to benefit from switching back and forth or being put on the backburner for an extended period while you catch up with a bunch of other books. The ending does have a significant impact on _SWORD_ though, so make sure to read _Cable_ before that. Oh, and avoid _Fallen Angels_ like the plague. It's awful.
Fingers crossed that they do a Krakoa Era Companion Omnibus that has all the missing oversized hardcover series and events like 4X, Way of X, Fallen Angels, and Trial of Magneto… still holding out a lil hope we eventually get the New Mutants and SWORD series’ in oversized hardcover too
I was super into the krakoa era when it started but I started falling behind around the first hellfire gala and eventually I would stop buying comics. I want to get caught up but it seems like such a monumental task to read all of these series but I feel like this video has helped a bit.
I'd say skip anything by Benjamin Percy as are the ones that feel like such a chore, X-Force and Wolverine, they became total snoozefests. Hellions, Legion of X, Way of X, SWORD which became XMen RED were the new-ish series that popped out after a while that are the best after Hickman left.

I really reaaaallllyyy hope then when the omnie comes out for these titles, they map it perfectly and collect absolutely EVERYTHING! For everyone reading Hox-Pox in single issues when they came out, it was a bit of a thing to read them in order. I’ve been out of the loop since before this era & I’m just getting started and can’t wait to absorb all of it - the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the name Krakoa was the huge monster/mouth that was living in the yard of the school
Really would be fun to get SWORD, New Mutants and X-Factor as OHCs or even Omnis. Dawn of X and so on Omnis sound messy to me though the idea of a Companion Omni with the minis and short lived like FF/X-Men and Fallen Angels sounds good to me.
Thank you so much for this video Omar! I have not started reading this era of X-Men but I have been collecting the hardcovers for when the moment comes. I still have hope that Marvel releases some OHC for the rest of titles that we don't have in hardcover format
A comprehensive video, Omar!!! Such detail! I fear that with the discontinued news, we have to find any format to collect this complex era. Make Mine X-Men!!!
Wonderful, Omar. Marvel does my head in sometimes. Rather than muck around with single series OHCs, and have to switch back and forth, why can't they simply release Omnibus' of the Krakoa era and make it easy to read for the fans who want the oversized format.
Whew! What a ride. Omar, thank you for these videos. These are so much fun to watch. I love how you cover everything and where it takes place. I collect in the ohc format. No exceptions. So I have House Of X/Powers Of X, X Of Swords, X-Men By Hickman Omni, Inferno, Hellions, and I'm collecting Percy's X-force. I did have the Hellfire Gala ohc but I ended up selling it because I hated it. I got the volume 1's of Excalibur and Marauders but sold them too as they weren't my cup of tea. I'm on the fence about getting Percy's Wolverine. I'm gonna wait until I read volume 2 of his X-force to make up my mind. As for series I would like to see collected in ohc, all of Al Ewing's stuff. He is the most underrated writer for the past 10 years. I'd be tempted to get Gillen's Immortal X-men as well. Everything else looks bland. I'm all for the anthology series. I think it's a shame they aren't continuing those through Fall of X since it should be the last stretch, right? The reason anthologies aren't for me is I like a singular vision to my stories. That's why I love following creators as supposed to "era's." You get bounced around from stories you like, to ones you may not. And let's be honest, some of lower titles don't have the strongest creative teams, so their stories aren't as engaging. Again, to each their own and I think it's so cool that Marvel is putting this era of collected editions in a few different ways. Thanks again! P. S. I see that DM cover of Secret Warriors on your shelf. Take care and peace everyone.
I am so disappointed with the cancelation of the of x series. Now I have an incomplete collection that will not be finished and because that was my focus getting the out of print books is going to be such a pain in the ass.
Now that the Krakoa era is done, can you do an updated video? I ask because I'm in the middle of the Trials of X series and they stopped doing the ____ of X books, so now I will need to read them by series after Lives/Deaths of Wolverine. I know you did some stuff for after that, but obviously nothing was truly done at the time. Like is it better to do X-Men Red first or Immortal X-Men? Do I actually need to read Knights of X? Where does Hellions, New Mutants, X-Force, and whatever else there is fit in? How many volumes are there to the stand alone X-Men series? Is the second Hellfire Gala actually important? I ask because I found the first one to be a complete borefest.
After years of buying the OHCs, I finally read the whole thing up to Inferno. I enjoyed the ride a lot. However, while Hickman injected the line with so much incredible potential, I don't feel like it has been properly realized. Most series are enjoyable, but I don't think I have been blown away by any of them after House and Powers of X. I hope what comes after Inferno gets better, but for now I'm taking a break.
the beauty of the dawn/reign/trials trades was that it included one-shots and minis so you didn't have to run around asking what you were missing, as a completionist it was A GODSEND. kind of annoying as a trade reader, to read a bunch of issues of X-Men, hit the AXE event, go back, and read up on all the X-Men Red until you hit the Axe event, go back and read up on Immortal x-men til you hit AXE, etc... but i also get that looking on the shelf - if you asked me where colossus started being influenced by the writer, i see a sea of grey/white/black spines and it means little to me... each book and spine having it's own identity Does really help.
I really appreciate this! I also though would love to see a video of how you'd map the Krakoa era in omnis. I'm debating whether to wait for those or try to jump on now
Well, finding out the anthology books are ending sucks. But I guess it's going to save me a lot of money. I was double dipping with the hardcovers. Now I'll just wait until hardcovers come out, and if they don't, then even more money saved. It's weird how Marvel just doesn't want my money lately.
I cannot over stress how sad I am over the cancelation of the "Y of X" line. I stopped buying single issues after inferno looking forward to collecting all of it in TPB
agreed. Thats how I started it. it makes everything so much easier. I personally think shelf appeal is the reason why more people went with the other format. the solid color covers look legit as fuck but reading convenience is much more important to me.
when the Anthologies first dropped, it seemed messy, but it's definitely the best way to read the experience. the other formats require too many bookmarks. ;)
The Excalibur Vol. 1 & Marauders Vol. 1 HCs are so hard to get now 😢 I'm with Omar....love the anthology idea. Makes it so easy to know what the reading order is!
Great as always Omar! I still hope we will see the Fall of X anthology, that's such an interesting way to read all the books. One question: when to read AXE? Thanks again for another amazing video
Something I noticed across reddit and facebook groups is how many people have collected the Krakoa books in this format opposed to the Dawn of X, Reign of X etc format. I think that kinda tells me that shelf appeal is more important than convenience to a lot of folks. I collected it in the other format mainly because I didn't want to struggle with reading order. unfortunately, not enough people bought it to justify continuing this format.
Oh goddammit, still watching and I just heard the anthology news. I've been collecting these since omnidog said they were going out of print. Goddammit Jess....
Thanks for this Omar Its a good era and i read them digitally (which I hate) but i will wait for a better collection. Half the anthologies are unavailable and its just too much to read. Even the Hickman omni didn't have x of swords. So hard to buy anything.
Wow, great video! Bad news about the anthologies though, it was my primary way of reading this era and actually keeping up with the content. Not sure if i'll be able to continue after Trials of X completes. I suppose I'll have to wait for Omnis and end up double dipping. But then should I complete Trials of X... Sigh.... Decisions.....
I am lazy so I would Love to see someone else definitively map the all the issues that come after the last trial of x trade through fall of X to give us a hypothetical of what fall of X books would have / could have looked like. Then I would take that information, buy up all the singles, and do my own custom binds.
Great rundown! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 sounds like the best way might be to do a combination of the 3 formats. We're midway through 2024, omnibuses are starting to come out now. You gonna an update soon?
What if, right? My era starts and begins here with Hickman. And any other series that actually strengthens what he was planning. So I do have some of Wolverine, New Mutants, Hellions that does it. Wouldn't mind getting the hardcovers but I don't want anything extra. So the comics are fine since I get that option to pick and choose.
I’m sooooo bummed about the anthologies. I actually sold my OHC to collect them that way… it was like a months comics in your mailbox and I liked reading them that way.
Thanx Omar ! Marvel have to bring back the anthologies ! They can't be like DC and let the people who bought 40+ tpbs down like that ! I know you can slide suggestions here and there if I'm not the only one :) Come on people !
I find it curious that apparently many collectors prefer hardcovers over softcovers. I'm in the opposite camp. I find the hardcovers heavy and cumbersome to read, and think they take up too much shelf space, whereas a "floppy" is a fast read, doesn't kill your wrists while reading, and takes up a lot less shelf space.
I’d prefer when the go the omnibus route, it’s for individual series/creator centric like the Hickman X-men omnibus. As you said, for the cancellation of the anthologies, they were less crossing over, so it makes no sense to do the same mistake twice? Plus the omnis would complement the already existing OHCs.

Take care and peace everyone.
perfect timing!
Would love to see you update some of the older reading orders Omar 👍💪
Hickman’s New Mutants was an absolute blast. I still remember the dice based fight game in the middle of New Mutants #2/3. 🎉
Great video Omar, the documentation you've done on this has been really good too
After years of buying the OHCs, I finally read the whole thing up to Inferno. I enjoyed the ride a lot. However, while Hickman injected the line with so much incredible potential, I don't feel like it has been properly realized. Most series are enjoyable, but I don't think I have been blown away by any of them after House and Powers of X. I hope what comes after Inferno gets better, but for now I'm taking a break.
it does pick up again when Kieron Gillen joins the group, except for Benjamin Percy projects they keep being super boring and plodding.
@@JTR_3 Good! I will continue reading eventually.
the beauty of the dawn/reign/trials trades was that it included one-shots and minis so you didn't have to run around asking what you were missing, as a completionist it was A GODSEND.
kind of annoying as a trade reader, to read a bunch of issues of X-Men, hit the AXE event, go back, and read up on all the X-Men Red until you hit the Axe event, go back and read up on Immortal x-men til you hit AXE, etc...
but i also get that looking on the shelf - if you asked me where colossus started being influenced by the writer, i see a sea of grey/white/black spines and it means little to me... each book and spine having it's own identity Does really help.
I really appreciate this! I also though would love to see a video of how you'd map the Krakoa era in omnis. I'm debating whether to wait for those or try to jump on now
Thank you so much I really needed this omg
Stellar work! Your reading order videos are so helpful and fun to watch. Thank you!
I really hope marvel changes their mind on the anthology series, they printed French versions of it. By far was my favorite way to collect these
Well, finding out the anthology books are ending sucks. But I guess it's going to save me a lot of money. I was double dipping with the hardcovers. Now I'll just wait until hardcovers come out, and if they don't, then even more money saved.
It's weird how Marvel just doesn't want my money lately.
You must’ve read my mind. I was going to message in the live Q&A and ask this very question. The most baffling era?…..
I cannot over stress how sad I am over the cancelation of the "Y of X" line. I stopped buying single issues after inferno looking forward to collecting all of it in TPB
agreed. Thats how I started it. it makes everything so much easier. I personally think shelf appeal is the reason why more people went with the other format. the solid color covers look legit as fuck but reading convenience is much more important to me.
when the Anthologies first dropped, it seemed messy, but it's definitely the best way to read the experience. the other formats require too many bookmarks. ;)
When it comes to this I am happy I have marvel unlimited to read it all when I want to get into it
The Excalibur Vol. 1 & Marauders Vol. 1 HCs are so hard to get now 😢
I'm with Omar....love the anthology idea. Makes it so easy to know what the reading order is!
Thanks Omar! But damn really sad about not getting Fall of X. :(
Great as always Omar! I still hope we will see the Fall of X anthology, that's such an interesting way to read all the books. One question: when to read AXE?
Thanks again for another amazing video
I liked the FF X-men side story. It added to and was interesting
Thank you omar , been waiting for this ❤
Something I noticed across reddit and facebook groups is how many people have collected the Krakoa books in this format opposed to the Dawn of X, Reign of X etc format. I think that kinda tells me that shelf appeal is more important than convenience to a lot of folks. I collected it in the other format mainly because I didn't want to struggle with reading order. unfortunately, not enough people bought it to justify continuing this format.
I prefer to read it by volumes (Dawn of X style) so I don't miss anything.
It’s so colorful!
Oh my god. Dude this is awesome. Thank you!
Already discovered some major gaps in my collection. God damn it....
Oh goddammit, still watching and I just heard the anthology news. I've been collecting these since omnidog said they were going out of print. Goddammit Jess....
Omnibus news! Yes! Okay, this vid is an emotional roller coaster....
Melanie singing. I'm done. 😊
Thanks for this Omar
Its a good era and i read them digitally (which I hate) but i will wait for a better collection. Half the anthologies are unavailable and its just too much to read. Even the Hickman omni didn't have x of swords. So hard to buy anything.
Been looking everywhere for this, thank you.
Great video!!!
I would love if they eventually collect most of this in multiple Krokoa era trade paperbacks
JEEZ. This would be at least a dozen omni's. I'd say I want it collected, but don't think I'd want to designate an entire shelf or two!
Aye man thank you for this but this will be a long fun/journey
Holy crap that's a lot of books
What if, right? My era starts and begins here with Hickman. And any other series that actually strengthens what he was planning. So I do have some of Wolverine, New Mutants, Hellions that does it. Wouldn't mind getting the hardcovers but I don't want anything extra. So the comics are fine since I get that option to pick and choose.
I’m sooooo bummed about the anthologies. I actually sold my OHC to collect them that way… it was like a months comics in your mailbox and I liked reading them that way.
Can you make an update video for the Krakoa for the anthology trades please
Love this, thank you.
You are so welcome!
How should we go about collecting after the Trials of X vol 12? I really feel lost since they decided to quit making these trades.
I am so glad that I didn't subject myself to buy all of these or even get into this era (save for House and Power of X) It's just TOO MUCH lol
Thanx Omar !
Marvel have to bring back the anthologies ! They can't be like DC and let the people who bought 40+ tpbs down like that ! I know you can slide suggestions here and there if I'm not the only one :) Come on people !
Thank you so much for doing this!!
Fall of X concludes the Krakoa Era of the X-Men & the initiative concludes in June of 2024 before the From The Ashes relaunch begins in July
