Good lord, this is exactly why I gave up on the X Men books in early 2014. It was absolutely ridiculous that every 18-30 months, there would be a massive culling of titles, and the ones that survived would be restarted at #1. I’ve lost count of how many #1 issues I have of various titles. But I know it’s no less than 20 titles. I understand comics are a business, and it makes some sense that when a new creative team takes the reins, it makes it simpler to just renumber. It feels like the past doesn’t matter, and no matter now we’ll received a title is, it won’t be allowed to survive past issue #50. After watching this video, it’s obvious to me that the convoluted madness has only escalated among the countless X titles, and I feel personally vindicated, and I have zero regrets about walking away. Besides, when the cost of keeping up with every title in any given month could be at minimum $100, screw that.
I feel your pain 😢bro...... too much of a good thing is really too much of a good thing.....man these guys really have no limits to their greed I mean how many TITLES do you really need let alone have time for + a small fortune just to keep up with so many TITLES........good luck future marvel fans cause like @blornblad4381 stated....I'm out as well........😮😮😮😮😮
I quit reading around that time too. It was way too expensive. They do have a subscription pass now that makes it a lot cheaper but it’s still sooo confusing! I tried to jump back in but I just can’t keep up. They definitely need to simplify!
Just wanted to say, that X-Men Red you showed at 5:04 is from the 2018 run of X-Men Red where Jean is setting up a team (after the events of Resurrection of Jean Grey). I really recommend this series as its only 11 issues (Two Volumes). The newer one set in Arakko is with Storm, Magneto, Sunspot, Vulcan, etc. P.S. It’s right before Krakoa and sets it up pretty well.
Thank you for sharing this, I really hope marvel collects this run amongst all the others in a cohesive manner. There were some great issues in the Krakoa era.
Good Lord. The x men had been my favorite super heroes since i was a kid but i can't believe they're still doing all of these different titles for a single over-arching story. I remember being kind of overwhelmed when i tried to read age of apocalypse years ago and i had hoped they'd simplify things by now. I really can't believe they're still doing this. I feel like you should be able to just buy a single title and read through issue by issue plus whatever self-titled events they publish at the conclusion. This just strikes me as a cash grab.
You're not wrong, it's like the microtransactions of comic books :). Granted there are some super cool stories, here's hoping we get some collected editions that are easy to follow.
here i was thinking this man is going to make a cohesive story out of all these xmen comics, but hes just reading all the titles out loud. wtaf.. this could have been an email.
It's hilarious and sad they never learned from manga how to do a series properly. Western comics is such a mess. I lost interest in the 2000s. Screw all the retcons and reboots. The 90s comic series was awesome, especially leading into Legion that ended up wiping Xavier from existence and brought in the Age of apocalypse. Onslaught was a badass era as well. . In the 2000s it started getting really meh, most people I knew started dropping x-men. There was so many retcons and reboots that it just was not the same comic we all knew and loved anymore. Think one can almost pin point to the movies that influenced the comics in a bad way, but honestly I think its just writers who didnt "get" the x-men and just retcon and rebooted them to something more they like. One of the major problems, the writers didn't think ahead what damage they would do to a character by breaking them down too much. Cyclopes was a good example of this. Although he was a great villain, there was no coming back from his jump off the deep end. But the writers just decided one day to pretend his crimes never happened. Same with Gambit when he was an accomplice that helped kill a lot of innocent mutants. There was no redemption for what he did, but the writers just decided one day that his crimes never happened. What a joke
The challenges with endless comic book issues I suppose, the saying "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" just feels so accurate in this context.
Wow. just W-O-W. I knew you were working on your take on 'Modern x-men' (and i'll be honest, i'd even call it 'SUPER MODERN' or like "Latest starting point" as usually 'modern' would be used in regards to like i mentioned previously, points like the Morisson early 2000's new x-men or maybe Joss Whdon's Astanoshing x-men) But yeah, i didn't realize there was THAT MUCH since 2019. and that your video would be this freaking detailed and contain just so much. must have been A BITCH AND A HALF to research/get in order properly. definitely something you worked on for a while and i can only applaude you for that Casper. i can only fucking hope the algorithm gets this video to guys looking into get into x-men and don't wanna go back a decade or more back, as your video IS THE SHIT. (in the most positive way possible lol) Well done kind sir well done. can't wait to see your next videos and what you come up with next :)
You are right, it is as modern as it gets right now. There was a little research involved haha 😅, but it felt more like fun than work really. I really appreciate the kind words, your major contribution and investment in the channel, it never goes unnoticed and it's always great to read your thoughts on the content, and your personal knowledge of comics in general. The algorithm will do it's thing, I'm just happy to talk about comics and even happier there is an audience to share this with. Here's hoping I get the opportunity to keep doing this at whatever pace life allows me. Catch you on the next video ;)
between rewatching the fox movies, xmen 97, and just generally seeing a lot of comic panels regarding these characters in pinterest + tumblr, I've REALLY wanted to get into the xmen recently, newer books in particular, especially the krakoan era which looks super intriguing to me, i doubt I'll be able to buy those or most of anything in this list but it is super helpful to save as an archive if i one day find myself in the place to get them thank you bro 🙏🏻 !!
Happy to help, great to see the resurgence of X-Men love in the community, thank you for watching the video. The Karakoa era is super cool, perhaps we will get some other collected editions of these in the near future.
I got into collecting comics in middle school around 2005-2006. By 2013 I gave up. Too many relaunches, cancellations of series I liked, and constant events interrupting stories. Plus the price point became too expensive for essentially a worthless magazine once I moved into an apartment with bills and a life in my early 20s. Now I collect alot of trades, I love the 80s X-Men stuff even if Claremont wrote a damned novel in 22 pages. I've got a decent amount of Stern and DeFalcos Spider-Man work from the 80s as well. But I keep a soft spot for all the post House of M X-Men era with Decimation and Messiah Complex being launching points for my monthly reading. I fell out before giving up after the Utopia run I liked eventually went to Schism and Avengers vs X-Men
Always great to hear someone's history with comic reading, and it's fascinating how diverse people's experiences are. Thank you for sharing Rich Born. Great to hear you're still collecting trades, seems to be a route many people have adopted.
My pleasure Florin, and thank you for taking the time to watch it, that's awesome to hear, I do hope you enjoy the x-books, there's some cool stories in this era.
Id rather try to get all on onslaught instead of all this. But more seriously this is why i never buy individual issues, its a headache to know which is tied to what and the single issues themselves have nowhere near enough content to justify the price. Tbh id rather just wait for a trade paperback or trade hardcover.
Before the 2000s the X-Men were the coolest thing ever and once the movies released they lost all their cool factor and never got it back even in the comics.
I'm such a sucker for the Krakoa X-men era, some of the art is just epic, and the Hickman stuff vibes with me. Albeit, always great to hear alternative takes.
Every time I think I'm out... they convince me to stay out!
Aaaaaaand theyre gonna hard reset it all back to the mansion in the summer.
@@donhughes7339 Mansion or Krakoa, we'll probably still be seeing some fruity fashion galas in the future.
