Oh Metroid Prime. An instant classic, and at the top of just about everyone's "Best Gamecube Games Ever" list. And for good reason, the game is amazing. Retro Studios took the formula of Super Metroid and translated it perfectly into 3D. Some people have qualms with the controls, but the gameplay was well designed around them. One reason this game is so loved is because of the exceptional world building and sense of atmosphere.
This is helped by the incredible soundtrack. Every area is distinct, set apart by it's look and sound. We have the derelict starting area, Frigate Orpheon, with sounds of mystery and the fear of what could have happened here and what the Space pirates were working on. Then we get down to Tallon IV, landing in a lush jungle with music that encourages discovery. Throughout our journey, we'll travel to the decaying Chozo Ruins, into the Magmoor Caverns, to the frozen Phendrana Drifts, and down into the poison infested Phazon Mines to see the horror of the Space Pirate's research. We'll even get to explore the very same frigate where we started the game, except it's crashed into a body of water and completely submerged. All of these areas are matched with appropriate, beautiful sound design.
I had a really fun time remastering each and every one of these tracks. I'm not trying to brag, with nice headphones, you can really hear the difference between this and any other Metroid Prime OST on TH-cam. Try these for comparison: Save Station (SO. GOOD.), Thardus, and Phendrana Deep Lake Area.

I just keep replaying the Save Station music because it feels so good in my head. It’s hard to describe, like the bass vibrations are soothing or something.

If I may be so keen to self-advertise, I did something similar on a bunch of OCRemix tracks, which I upscaled to 7.1 surround and to which I dubbed recordings from two 7.1 live pipe organ sessions that I played along by ear. The result was a 45min presentation, which even premiered in a local movie theater at my home town on Apr 15th 2022. The 4K UHD TH-cam version is available since Jan 1st; you'll find it in the VGM playlist on my channel or by searching for "Metroid: Organ Transplants". Wow, listening through the OST I'm reminded of the depth of emotion I felt while playing this game.
The sense of adventure when discovering a new area.
The intense curiosity and wonderment at the sheer amount of knowledge to scan, building my immersion into this world.
The hauntingly beautiful independence and loneliness felt throughout, bridged by messages from the past.
The absolute fear and anxiety felt when encountering loud and aggressive enemies.
The hopelessness of losing to the same boss dozens of times.
The thrill of finally figuring out how to overcome an obstacle I didn't think I could.
And the sense of loss I felt when I finished the game, understanding that my ongoing connection to this world was at its end.
I must have spent hundreds of hours daydreaming about adventures in this game when I was younger.
Ice Chapel is my favorite. I remember just sitting in this room and listening to the music. I felt some kind of spiritual connection to the Chozo, and this music was like church to me.
Beautiful music, beautiful game, beautiful remaster.

I remember that feeling when I first played it on the GameCube. It was one of my first videogames ever, and it got me invested in Metroid so heavily
it truly was a game all it's own. really broke the mould. let the music of the adventure never be underestimated, nor the attention to detail the video editor took to show the levels visually in tandem to all the zone music. job well done, tribute well paid, and game well played, fam.

compared to the other "remasters" which just messed with the bass and cranked the fuck out of the mids, this is just a night and difference, this sounds like it would be in an official remaster of the game, i loved every second of this dude!

crazy enough i had the feeling a remastered edition of this game was in the works ever since the original announcement of Metroid Prime 4 otherwise they wouldn't have used the opening theme to the OG Metroid Prime as background music in a simple teaser trailer.

When I make the remastered audio files, I save them in a mostly uncompressed wav format. But when I export the remaster video, I have to set the audio to export in a compressed format. What I mean is, if you think the video sounds good in your new headphones, you should hear the uncompressed audio files. It's a whole other step up in quality.

I find that song to be very grating, though I suppose that's the point. It was not fun to remaster, lol.
Wow, this remaster really cleans all the tracks up and emphasizes the little details that I could never hear while playing on a cruddy old CRT speaker. Some of my favourite highlights: I can now detect a counter melody partway through Meta Ridley's theme that faded into the background on other versions, the improved soundstage on the Metroid Prime Core theme really helps it crawl under your skin as it progresses, and the heightened presence of the bassline on Phendrana's Edge honestly changes the feel of the track.

Man, the Chozo Ruins tracks never fail to blow me away. It feels like the faint echoes of untold generations of history and culture, which have been lost to time for centuries or millennia.

What’s insane about the soundtrack is they made every Metroid Prime game’s music distinct from literally everything else. You hear any song from the first three mainline home console games and you instantly know it’s from the Metroid Prime series.
I personally think that Prime 3 is the odd one out here. I'm not personally a huge fan of Prime 3's soundtrack. I find the "singing ladies" sound that permeates the songs a bit grating.
@@GEMGaming_yt See, I agree with you in some cases (the fake male vocals in Bryyo’s Cliffside level in particular annoyed me) but you do also have the main theme of Skytown and the creep factor of GFS Valhalla’s music, so I’d argue it’s not all bad.

Thanks so much! I pretty much only remaster games that I actually enjoy listening to. So this is all stuff I loved growing up. The only exception is The Missing Link, which was a request, but it was pretty short and the music was nice.

I messaged some let's play youtubers and got a response back from someone who gave me permission to use their footage. The next video will also use their footage, but they played the game at my suggestion. I'm excited for it to be done! Hopefully it's another game you like. ♥️

This is the first time I've ever heard that there was an underlying percussive beat to the Frigate Orpheon theme...crazy! Also, Flaaghra's theme feels like it has a whole new sound to it...it's awesome! Your remastering work also shines with the Impact Crater theme and both Metroid Prime battle themes as you latched onto a lot of detail that is there. Great job with these!
Thank you so much! Sometimes I worry that people don't actually get what it is that I'm doing with these remasters. Yes, it's literally the same songs that have been uploaded to TH-cam countless times, but it's MORE than that.
Doing the Flaaghra theme was interesting because it seemed like I had never really heard that song before. That battle is so hectic and the music is unlike anything else in the soundtrack.
Anyway, thank you for hearing the little details! And again, if your headphones have a nice base response, please listen to the Save Station theme and feel your head rattle.

The chozo ruins song is my absolute favorite. So laid back.
I was listening to the remastered .wav file I have of that the other night and was in amazement of how good it was. This version on TH-cam sounds really nice, but the file I have at home is completely uncompressed at 140MB and 2304kbps and sounds heavenly.

At 1:15:12 right when it hits though I wish the OST artist put a bit more bass in that note for that oomph, would make it so much better IMO
