Floating passage + living force or bestowal jutsu. Most arts take away any buff on your sword hindering damage output. Could use additional testing as I don't have all ending/arts yet.

honestly, i feel combat arts shouldn't cost spirit emblems. the ones that have long combos and high damage outputs also give the opponent a chance to strike back at the player, which really does balance it out and doesn't make it too op. making them cost emblems will make it so that you can only use them 4-5 times a fight, which really isn't enough considering the minimal damage most of them do. it'll cause most players to outright ignore those that cost spirit emblems because of their impracticality, which is a pity because they're sooooo cool to look at.

Praying strikes owns the first two phases of the final boss of this game. Interesting point not mentioned is that it's the only combat art that you can hit confirm with r1 and combo into. So deflect, r1, r1, praying strike, praying strike, praying strike. It's uninterruptible, and builds up poise damage super fast. Plus it works well with the descending carp passive ability.

The problem is you can get suck into spamming attack if you use praying strikes. And when The AI senses that you're spamming attack they're gonna throw out them unblockable moves and you can react to it cause you're stuck in the animation. I used it against Genichiro, was doing great until I he use the jump move and I can't get out of the way cause I was in praying strikes animation :(

Dont sleep on Praying strikes Exorcism. It can create an excellent combo moveset to your standard swing. Soon as an enemy deflects, deflect their attack and use it to break through their combo and follow up with standard attacks, or prosthetic combo tools like Sibumaru.

I've always neglected my combat arts in tough fights (except for cheese strats) as I'm more focused on deflects and close quarters combat, and I hate having to jump sweep attacks from tough enemies. I never could've imagined that skill having so much utility on offer! Definitely gonna pick this up when I have the skill points to unlock it so I can axe kick some sweep spamming samurai in the face.

Some comments about the rather underrated skills
Nightjar slash: reversal steps forward before slashing. The step-forward means a few things: first, in sekiro you may have realized that most enemies block only if they "Think" you are going to hit them. Sometimes you may have found if you attack on the edge of your attack range, you might just get a free hit. The step forward mechanism of nightjar reversal means it has a longer effective range than a standard light, meaning half of the time, if you place yourself correctly, they enemy wont even try to block. One of the cheapest ways to get vitality damage, as the followup backflip means you'll be safe even if they deflect it.
Second, the slash is lightning fast. As fast as a light attack, if not faster, I kid you not. This means that you can literally use it on reaction to enemy attacks. If they hyperarmor through your slash, you're safe, because of the backflip. If they are smart and cancel their attack into a block, you still get away stock free. I honestly find this move filthy. It even works against certain perilous attacks, you are able to squeeze in that sneaky slash and backflip away in time.
Praying strikes is meant to be used sandwiched in between a swordfight. Praying strikes can be executed almost immediately after a light attack, as fast if not faster than if you were to throw another light. Additionally, if it gets deflected, the combo isn't broken. Light-spam is countered by parrying, but not if you mix in some praying strikes. It is used to keep up a constant harassment against enemies. That being said, praying strikes: exorcism is not as useful, as the recovery from the third strike is too slow, and I find myself getting punished if I throw out the third strike.
default praying strikes is virtually no risk, it interrupts quite effectively and is lightning fast.

  • @PaszerDye
    @PaszerDye 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

IMO I wish there was a 2nd slot for combat arts. I rarely find myself having more than 4-5 quick slot items at any time even back in Dark Souls. So coming into a fast game like Sekiro where there's barely anytime to cycle through 5 items, I'd gladly give 1 quick item slot up in exchange for a 2nd active combat art. On a PS4 controller, I'd remap the controls to this setup; Up to change prosthetic tool, down to change combat art, left & right to cycle quick slot items, square to interact/eavesdrop, & triangle to use quick slot items.
Also I think it's fair that some combat arts cost spirit emblems, especially the mushin arts. But it's ridiculous how Spiral Cloud costs an emblem for each attack. Hopefully, they'll lower some of the costs, or at least give some of these combat arts poise frames or the ability to interrupt some enemy attacks.

I think the most useful thing about Floating Passage is that it's free, it starts fast, and most importantly each slash does a little damage through enemy blocks. I did a no-parry run recently and Floating Passage is a great way to get damage through enemies who won't stop blocking. You can whittle down more defensive enemies this way, but I wouldn't recommend it against big guys.

    • @Jaminhawk
      @Jaminhawk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It also does 20% chip damage through guards. I believe that's the highest chip percentage in the game. Although that is 20% of Floating Passage's reduced damage per hit. But do to the fact that it is a 5 hit combo, compared to Whirlwind Slash's 2 hits, it's harder for enemies to deflect every hit.

Did a few rough tests on the moves once the v.1.03 update got installed. What I observed thus far:
    - Spiral Floating Passage seems to be now much more economical. Seems to use 3 Spirit Emblems instead of 7 for a full combo with one spirit emblem mandatorily being used for the opening strike.
    - High Monk and Senpou Leaping Kicks..as per the patch notes they do seem to have a reduced posture damage for the first strike but the final strike seems to have been buffed up as well which makes it more balanced or more sensible as a combo ender than before.

Sucks that few are worth using. Nightjar Slash is an amazing tool for many situations. Praying Strikes is a good combo tool, Dragon Flash deals big damage but sadly it has no armour so you have to learn when to use for its full potential or simply do a quick version although still slow.
Leaping Kicks\High Monk good for sweep counter but you lose some fun potential from the double jump.

If you unlock Leaping Combat Arts, you can jump into Double Ichimonji without windup. Great for shortening distance and punishing sweep attacks. No windup, no emblems, greater range than a Nightjar Slash, great damage and it recovers your own posture - absolutely broken. Depending on your timing, you can even deflect one attack mid-air before landing the Double Ichimonji. Plus, you get to LARP as Genichiro and his leaping/stabbing combo.

My Fav is High Monk , Dragon Flash & Shadowfall ✌🏼
Pro Tip : Dragon Flash ( Quick Draw & Charged Draw can be Enhanced by Divine Confetti altho only the 1st Initial Strike ). Now on 1.03/1.04 it costs 2 Emblems which is a VERY strong Art if u play NG+'s it Helps alott trust me. It deals around 15% more damage when u have Divine Confetti/ Sacred Flame Living Force buff... this is a Very good Art combined with Confetti buff to take out Tougher Enemies like ( Generals on Set Ablaze , Red Hat Dual Wielders with White Mustaches & Red Armored Heavy Trooper near Demon of Hatred... aswell as all LoneShadows it just melts their HP & Posture with only 1 usage with Confetti on &/or Ako Sugar.
*Be mindful that Enemies on every NG+ Cycle , they deal around 50% more damage on every NG+ Cycle... which makes this Art pretty useful all in all*
While ShadowRush : This Art is pretty straight forward... the unblockable nature of this Art is just Fun & Good in terms of damage , however i suggest you use this on tough fights against all Mini Bosses ( with the Exception of Equipping Lazulite Axe or Spark Axe it doesn't matter + Fang & Blade ). This will give you a Very strong follow up Attack while you're on the Air instead of mashing R1's... just use Axe when u jump after stabbing them with shadowrush... makes 4 Emblem uses very useful & DEADLY. This allowed me to Slay Ujinari Red Eye Elite with only using it twice ( Shadowrush + R2 Spark Axe + Fang & Blade )

Personally yeah i do love the Ichimonji Double.
Nightjar Slash is so good for many occasions, Lady Butterfly is nearly helpless against a barrage of it except for the occasional deflect if your timing is slightly off.
One Mind has some potential with decent damage and spirit cost.
Dragon Flash is awesome for the long range.
Spiral Cloud Passage was interesting if it weren't for the huge spirit emblem cost for full combo.
Floating Passage itself is kinda ok since it doesn't cost spirit emblems, but very little vitality damage for that many blows and even lesser posture damage compared to regular sword attacks.

I actually think One Mind is underrated because you can dodge out of all the follow-up slashes the second you sheath the sword, allowing you to just leave it there, as well as it travelling very far forward with the first attack that staggers a lot of enemies, with the follow-ups often doing lots of tiny posture damage or vitality damage.
I will say the one thing I'm not super sure about is the second follow-up which doesn't really feel worth it.

Floating Passage or Spiral Cloud Passage
    +
    Bestowal Blade Ninjitsu
    =
    Lady Maria
If you don't mind spending a buttload of spirit emblems, this lets you jump into a large group of enemies and kill them quickly, easily, and in the most flashy way possible.
This works best against enemies that either:
    1) ...do a lot of blocking (your constant attacks will keep them blocking instead of attacking you while bestowal quickly chips all their health away)
    2) ...have a small health/posture pool
Because you're still vulnerable to flinching and don't cause much flinching to enemies, it's important to focus down the right targets. Some enemies have attacks that aren't easily interrupted. Keep these enemies in front of you and simply jump away when they stop blocking to do one of these attacks. This is made easy by the fact that both "Passage" combat arts can be canceled mid-combo.
If you _really_ want to be safe with this method, you could always just use a red lump, but that may be too much of a waste. Spirit emblems are easy to acquire and stockpile, but red lumps are far more limited and probably best reserved for bosses.

Nice tutorial, great gameplay in your walkthrough section. One remark. You mentioned using ichimonji with jumping forward is strange (with the talent of using it in the air). I would disagree, it's best combo in the game for closing distance, especially after dodging swipes or even after jumping to dodge swipe vertically, jump on the head again and then when going down you can finish the jump with ichimonji animation already hitting the opponent. All 4 phases of final bosses can't handle jumping ichimonji even as gap closer.

I kinda wish some of the combat arts was just put into the regular combat. The combat in this game use just as many button as Devil May Cry 5, they both have only one melee button and you can do a lot of great combos in that game.
I hate you have to choose between Whirlwind Slash, Ichimonji and Floating Passage, what if you could unlock them as combos, and then you could have one of the Shadow Rush, Ashina cross, High monk etc as the LB+RB ability. I could see Icimonji being performed by holding the left stick up and press RB, or double press it or something like that.
That's also the thing I like about Niho is you unlock all these different combos you can do. Of course FromSoftware are not action game developer and Team Ninja was, and Devil May Cry is kinda the godfather of that genre. But there are so many cool moves you are never going to use.
Imagine starting with a Whirlwind slash, going into floating passage and end with an Ichimonji? How cool would that be?

As you saw yourself the Ichimonji Double as well as the Praying Strikes did charge enemy posture bars almost full. The difference being that Ichimonji is slow at the start up and thus bad at faster enemies e.g. monks, ninjas. tengu, etc.
Both accomplish the same goal on different enemies. Ichimonji is really only good for bosses and elite (mini-bosses) that drive up the player's posture bar.
@everyone saying worthless skill: Well, you know if you play games to have fun, you can have it and see using one mind as an additional challenge. Also it's the most underrated skill, imo and is even more undervalued by showing against archer enemies or just regular ones, they die with the first sheathed hit. Same goes for the Floating Passage/Spiral Cloud Passage. Heavily underrated. Remember that not every enemy is going to let your Ichimonji through and you need a faster move even when the enemy already finished it's attack.
Many just see the damage and forget that good moves also need to have a quick start-up. It should be rated similarly to how moves are rated in a fighting game, were most quick 3 or 4 frame moves are really good as starters (in a 2D fighting game). Ichimonji in that regards have abysmal start up.
Also where is the footage of some of the arts performed on bigger enemies?
As always, I'll stay a Iaido weeb and will prefer Ashina Cross and One Mind for fun playthroughs.
